Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Trailer Debuts at DC FanDome

suicide squad kill the justice league

First announced back in June, the fully-virtual, 24-hour DC FanDome convention has finally arrived as of August 22. The 24-hour FanDome event will give DC fans a gamut of otherworldly panels, announcements, and content to chew on. Most importantly, it's already been the location for some juicy new video game reveals; namely, Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

The latest from London-based Batman: Arkham Knight developer Rocksteady Studios, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League brings fan favorites like Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang directly to players' fingertips for the first major video game production in the series.

If you haven't followed any of the preceding comic books or seen the 2016 live-action film, Suicide Squad, the titular 'Suicide Squad' is a band of DC villains who have been captured and weaponized by the government, forced to carry out dangerous jobs lest they get blown to bits by bombs implanted into their heads. Fancy stuff!

Unfortunately for longtime DC video game fans, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League may not be the Batman: Arkham Knight sequel that many have been waiting for (h/t Tim Brinkhof of ScreenRant). But still, even as a unique property, it's exciting to see Suicide Squad finally make its way into the gaming space. Check out the trailer below.

While it's set to launch sometime in 2022, this reveal comes just after a report was published on August 18 via The Guardian that Rocksteady Studios has continuously fostered a toxic workspace for its female staff. The report signaled a lack of willingness to cultivate change from within the company's senior management, even two years following the original complaints.

As we reported earlier today, coming directly from Batman: Arkham Origins developer (WB Games Montreal), the also newly revealed Gotham Knights will bring the Court of Owls storyline to all major video game consoles plus PC in 2021.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will likely release on the Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC at some point in 2022.

Persona 5 Fan Poster Shows the Duality of Real World Versus Metaverse

Atlus, P5, P5R, Persona, Persona 5, Persona 5 Royal, PlayStation 4, PS4

Persona 5 fans as always show off both their dedication and incredible talent in spades and this latest piece of art is no exception. Artist SNIP●SNIP created a gorgeous fan poster of Ren Amamiya in his school uniform and Morgana in cat form. Below them and reversed are their forms when they enter the Metaverse:

The concept itself, the artwork, and the attention to detail are all absolutely stunning and I hope we continue to see more of this level of work in the future. For those interested below is the full sized version of the poster, which you can also buy directly from the artist on Redbubble:

Atlus, P5, P5R, Persona, Persona 5, Persona 5 Royal, PlayStation 4, PS4

Atlus has revealed that Persona 5 Royal's worldwide sales have officially reached over 1.4 million copies sold since it was first released in Japan in October 2019, followed by its Western launch this past March. Additionally, Atlus also highlighted that the series' total lifetime sales to date have reached over 13 million copies sold around the world.

According to previous reports, Persona 5 Royal (the updated re-release of the original Persona 5) shipped over 400K copies in its first month in Japan. Royal also topped the sales charts in both Taiwan and South Korea. Plus, it was in the top ten for both the UK and US charts during its opening weeks.

Back in February of this year I was able to sit down with the head of Atlus West PR, Arianne Advincula, for a quick interview. We discussed the challenges faced working with a game that has already been released in Japan, changes in the English localization between the original P5 and Royal, how streaming policies have been handled since its launch in the West, the EFIGS localization, and more.

Just recently it was announced that Persona 5 the Animation will be getting a full Blu-ray boxset release this September. Also included is a new English dub featuring the original voice cast.

You can read our review of Persona 5 Royal written by yours truly, in which I state that "Atlus has packed Persona 5 Royal full of new content that is sure to delight newcomers and even veterans of the original with a far more robust experience." There's also our post review discussion featuring myself and Video Manager Mario Rivera as we broke down some of our favorite parts of the game. And be sure to check out Staff Writer David Gill's editorial detailing why the game reminded him of what he missed about college.

Black Myth: Wukong Developer Responds to Popularity of First Trailer

Black Myth, Black Myth Wukong, China, Chinese, Chinese Games, Game Science, Games, Journey to the West, Monkey, monkey king, PC, PC Games, The Monkey King, Wu Kong, Wukong

Just yesterday Chinese gaming studio Game Science wowed the world with a debut 13 minute long trailer for Black Myth: Wukong. The title is a third-person action RPG featuring some of the most impressive graphics we've seen this generation. Feng Ji, Game Science founder, took to Weibo to respond to the huge surge of popularity in both the game and studio as a result.

Resetera user Nightengale translated some of the message, which the major points posted below (along with their side notes):

  • He wanted to expand the development team and recruit more people.
  • But wasn't able to or struggled at achieving that (I think.)
  • He just wanted to record an honest trailer for purpose of recruitment and didn't expect to be praised as an industry savior
  • 13 minutes of B1 ( I dunno what B1 means – B-roll? )
  • There are a lot of patchwork and rough aspects on what was shared of the trailer
  • He then talks about areas of the game that in his view, were still in poor shape
  • something in regards to the animation of small bodies?
  • something in regards to how they made the sculpt/mold of the golden cicada?
  • how the body of water in the trailer completely lacked any fluid physics/any feedback
  • the poor sound depth/implementation
  • how the framerate during the 1,000 enemy musou sequence tanked so bad it gave them PTSD (not sure if the PTSD referred to the devs or not)
  • hmm, something about how the fur implementation was still poor compared to hairless skin (I think?)
  • He knows many people are currently in a depressed state and he's happy to provide some comfort
  • The team is happy that the response to the reveal has been explosive, but they aren't letting it get to their heads.
  • Please forget what we have shown as of this time ( p.s. context – it's more of a statement of modesty and how they don't feel like it's necessarily representative of their best work, they also want to do better )
  • We will hide again after this to slowly continue, continue, continue working on the game.

Chinese game developers have been making exceptional strides in gaming development these last few years as the market . Currently, there are a bunch of anticipated games under development at Chinese studios, including Boundary, Bright Memory: Infinite, and of course the recently announced Black Myth: Wukong. One major similarity between all those projects is their undeniably incredible, next-gen looking graphics.

Watch the trailer below again if you missed it the first time around:

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition Multiplayer is Region Locked

android, Crystal Chronicles, FF, Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered, final fantasy crystal chronicles: remastered edition, iOS, Nintendo, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Switch

According to some fine print on the official Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition website, the multiplayer matchmaking is region-locked: "In online multiplayer mode, a player will only be matched with others in the region specific to player's software."

On top of that the online multiplayer requires a paid subscription to access the gameplay feature: "Online multiplayer mode requires an internet connection and either: Nintendo Switch – free registration to a Nintendo account and a paid subscription to 'Nintendo Switch Online' service; or PlayStation 4 — free registration to PlayStation Network and a paid subscription to PlayStation Plus."

While the paid subscription caveat is an obvious one, finding out that on top of it you can only play with those in your region is rather disappointing. It's also bafflingly restrictive in a way that feels almost archaic, as any modern multiplayer title normally allows for players around the world to connect. It's a shame since originally the addition of online multiplayer was great news, as it allows players the option to play with others across different devices and platforms.

As detailed in a post on the PlayStation Blog by Square Enix, the remastered version of Crystal Chronicles will feature refined visuals and audio that brings the game up to the HD era. Additionally, the new version of the game will also feature new voiceovers for many of its characters to make the world of Crystal Chronicles feel fresh again. However, some of the most significant new features are the addition of online multiplayer and crossplay, allowing players to band together from any platform, and several newly-added dungeons and other features.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition was first announced back at TGS 2018, and was originally planned to arrive at the beginning of this year. However, last December the game was pushed back a bit further to August 27th to allow for additional development time and polish. Despite the pushed back release, from what we've seen from the game so far, it seems like Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will give Final Fantasy fans an experience worth waiting for, especially with its significant new additions and refinements.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will release for PS4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android on August 27, 2020.

Batman: Gotham Knights Debuts its World Premiere Trailer, Teases Court of Owls

DC finally premiered the first trailer for the upcoming Batman: Gotham Knights title. The latest Batman title has been teased for quite some time, including earlier this week but now we're getting a hard look at both the plot and gameplay.

The trailer reveals that Bruce Wayne, or Batman as we truly know him as, has been caught in an explosion and died. A special message for the Bat Family confirms this, as well as the destruction of the Bat Cave. He also instructs them that Gotham will need them more than ever to watch over it and its citizens.

After that we see Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin as they suit up and demonstrate their unique abilities and skills in combat. In the final moments we see more of the Court of Owls plotline that was previously teased and it looks fantastic. Check out the world premiere trailer below:

You can also check out this official gameplay walkthrough from IGN in which it demonstrates the co-op gameplay as Batgirl and Robin take on Mister Freeze. The combat and exploration look very impressive on its own and it seems to integrate RPG elements:

According to the official description: "Batman is dead. It is now up to the Batman Family — Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin — to protect Gotham City, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops, and fear to its criminals. You must evolve into the new Dark Knight and save Gotham from chaos.

"Your legacy begins now. Step into the Knight."

If you want a full breakdown of the Court of Owls storyline as it appears in the comics (specifically the Scott Snyder's New 52 run of Batman comics), read up our extensive piece here.

Fortnite had an event just last year which replaced Tilted Town with Gotham City. Batman: The Telltale Series – Episode 5 also made its debut back in 2017 and was praised by our Features Editor in his own review.

The Metal Gear Solid Board Game Has Been Delayed Again

Metal Gear Solid

For those of you who are trying to get your Metal Gear Solid fix in any way now that the series is practically dead, you might have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on the board game.

Via Polygon, the publisher behind the tabletop game, IDW Games, announced on Friday that we can expect to get our hands on it sometime in the summer of 2021. This wasn't the first delay Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game has had. Back in November of 2019, IDW announced a delay that pushed the release back until the summer of 2020. The recent statement to customers who pre-ordered stated that the publisher will be pushing it back an entire year.

On top of the delay, the developers had an update on the final price of the board game as well. The price will be a little bit higher than expected. However, those who already backers and have paid $109 for their pre-orders will not see a price increase. The statement reads: "After additional development work, we've determined that moving forward, the game will be $125. So, you'll be saving $16 for your early support!"

The publisher behind the board game has stated that there will be more updates in "the next few months." This will be everything from gameplay coverage, components for the board game, and missions. It was also mentioned that those who pre-ordered the game will receive an invite to a virtual edition of Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game in Tabletop Simulator and Tabletopia next year in March of 2021.

While yes, this is a blow for all of those huge Metal Gear fans out there who were looking forward to this board game. However, the news of Metal Gear Solid V players on the PS3 disarming all of the nukes online and unlocking the secret ending might make up for it.

Check Out The Launch Trailer for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2

2020 has been a year we will all likely remember even though it probably is a year we would all likely like to forget. Even though there haven't been that many positive things this year we can look fondly on, at least Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 will be able to transport us back to simpler times. At least for a little bit.

We finally got a glimpse at the launch trailer for the upcoming remaster.  It showed off some of the returning modes as well as new ones such as online multiplayer. We even got a brief side by side comparison to the locations in the original games compared to how they are represented now in all its high definition glory. You can take a look at the launch trailer below.

I think this might be the game many of us need right now. At least I know it is for me. It has been a tough year and I think some of us need to just be transported back to simpler days where all you had to worry about was slurping down Sunny D and jamming out to Superman by Goldfinger.

I sure played the crap out of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater when I was a kid. However, for some reason, I never completed either of the first two games. I am excited that I will be able to finally complete these games that made a pretty big impact on my gaming life as a child.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 will release on September 4 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The game has not been announced for the Nintendo Switch but someone has discovered a Switch control scheme in the demo files. For those of you who are unaware, if you pre-order the game digitally you will receive access to the warehouse demo right now.

Next up, two more characters were also introduced, Gocteau and Iris:

Eiyuden Chronicle Gocteau

Profession: Guild leader

Favorite food: Steak topped with plenty of garlic

An influential leader of several guilds. That grin of his seems amiable enough, but this is a man who has been through hell, more times than one. When trouble goes down, Gocteau gets a look in his eye that scares the pants off the younger guildsmen.

He loves to gamble, but rarely wins. Gocteau certainly sounds like an experienced fellow! He could make for a very useful ally!

Quote:

"Heaven hadn't even shat you down to earth yet when I started working this business. So do us all a favor, clam it, and watch a master ply his trade."

Eiyuden Chronicle Iris

Home: The University of Carles

Favorite food: Black tea, and biscuits to go with it

An architect who graduated from the League of Nation's prestigious University of Carles. She's usually quite pleasant to chat with, but when it comes to her trade, she can't shut up. Mention the word "gables" and you're in for an hour-long ode to the perfect slope—and don't even get her started about gambrels!

No question, an architect could certainly come in handy when building a whole town

Quote:

"Oh, hello there! Come in, don't be shy. This is a happy space! That's what they pay me to build. I know, I live a charmed life."

Lastly, a new short interview video with Junichi Murakami was published:

Eiyuden Chronicle is scheduled to launch in Fall 2022 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and the Next-gen Nintendo platform if it releases by then.
