Wasteland 3 Review

Six years after Wasteland 2 hit the scene, the sequel has arrived with inXile Entertainment's Wasteland 3. Was it worth the wait, or should you spend your time somewhere else? Check out our review and find out.

Wasteland 3 Review

Wasteland 3 begins with you creating two characters and heading to Colorado. You are part of the Arizona Rangers, but food supplies are running out fast. To remedy this, you and your team go to Colorado to gather supplies and head back home. As you might expect, this goes horribly wrong, and you are ambushed as soon as you arrive. A gang of raiders wipes out your entire squad, minus you and your partner. Still, you agreed to do a job for Colorado's Patriarch, and the Rangers stick to their word. The Patriarch will supply you and your Rangers if you track down his kids and bring them in for him.

While tracking down the Patriarch's kids is the primary goal, you quickly find out that Colorado has its fair share of problems. Multiple factions are vying for control of the state, and it isn't just the Patriarch. As you progress, you get to decide which factions you aid and side with. The Patriarch may have hired you, but that doesn't mean you need to support him. You are free to act as you please, whether it be for good or bad. No matter who you side with, the game will run you at least 50 hours. There is no in-game clock, but I know it goes on for a long time.

The combat in Wasteland 3 is tactical and turn-based. You use your AP to move, shoot, take cover, heal, and use abilities. If you move too far, you can't shoot until next turn. Shoot too much, and you can't move. Managing your AP might sound like a pain, but you get used to it real quick. There are a variety of weapons as well; flamethrowers, LMGs, sniper rifles, pistols, melee weapons, brawling gloves, SMGs, shotguns, and assault rifles are all available to your team. It is up to you who has what equipment, but skill points play into combat as well.

Wasteland 3 Honest game Review

One thing I really like about Wasteland 3 are the skills in general. Each of them has a use, and none of them feel like a waste of time. Animal Whisperer? Major Tomcat is now your ally for life. Barter? Get paid upfront and skip a quest if you want. Survival? Avoid annoying world map encounters. The biggest issue you are going to run into is which skills to get. With everything being useful, you might neglect your gun skills and fall off in battle. Be sure to balance your party with all the skills, and don't try to focus on doing everything with one guy.

Wasteland 3 is full of choices and consequences as well. Some of them don't have an effect until the end of the game. I took a case form a guy in an apartment and completely forgot about it. About 30 hours later, he showed up and asked for the case back. He ended up giving me the best armor set in the game as a reward. Other choices will make your party members turn on you, even after they have been with you for more than 20 hours. It isn't a game with the illusion of choice; your choices actually matter, and your playthrough could be way different from mine. This also boosts the replayability should you want to play through it again.

The other big thing in Wasteland 3 is your HQ. This is your base of operations, and you can recruit people to come work for you. Sometimes these people just show up and guard the base for you. Other times they open up shops, give you equipment, give you new perks, or give you side quests. A lot of these people can be missed if you don't look around. These also play into choices, like who you want running your armory. Building your Ranger HQ from nothing is another fun part of the title.

Wasteland 3 Honest Review

Just to make sure we on the same page, I played through Wasteland 3 almost entirely in co-op. I respect their choice to put this co-op functionality in, but my goodness is it a buggy mess. Going longer than an hour without a crash is a complete miracle. On the world map, your co-op partner can rarely see the map, and random encounters will bug on their screen. Sometimes AI will register the leading player as an enemy but not their co-op partner. We even had cities completely reset, meaning we lost all progress gained in said area. This also wiped out the quest log and forced us to reload from a different checkpoint.

However, from my brief few hours in single-player, this is rarely a problem. I did have a crash, but nothing like the bugs I ran into during co-op play. It is a testament to how much I was enjoying the game that I put up with the complete BS that came up during co-op. There were times when one of us would crash, and we'd load back in, enter a new zone, and then the other player crashed. I have no idea how much time was wasted between crashes and loading screens. Wasteland 3 is a prime example of a game that needed a few more months in the cooker.

The single-player in Wasteland 3 runs fine, but the co-op is currently a hot mess. If you plan to play co-op, wait for a few more patches before picking it up.

This Wasteland 3 review was done on the PlayStation 4. A digital code was provided by the publisher.

Wasteland 3 Satoshi's Mysterious Case Guide
Satoshi gives you a mysterious case but do you open it or keep it? This Wasteland 3 Satoshi's Mysterious Case Guide will tell you where to find Satoshi and what you should do with the Mysterious Case but here's a spoiler, do not open the case under any circumstances.

During one of the many side missions in Colorado Springs, you will be sent to an apartment block to deal with some strange noises. This is where you recruit a special doctor that allows you to make clones to bring into combat. Anyway, Satoshi is in one of these rooms. He stands dressed from head to toe in a white robe and speaks mostly in computer jargon. However, he also hands you a Mysterious Case and asks you to look after it for him. If you open the case, you get some junk to sell, and that's it.

Right near the end of the game, after you deal with Victory, as you attempt to leave Yuma County Speedway, you will spot Satoshi standing around with some robots. Approach him and speak with him. He will ask if you still have the case and if so, ask you to hand it over.

Nuclear Armor set with 35 Armor on the Chest, 15 on the Pants and 15 on the Helmet. This is the strongest armor in the entire game in terms of raw armor value, so if you've saved the case up until this point, it's going to pay off.

Some areas are specific to side content and optional missions. These missions are usually given over the radio when you are nearby, exploring the world map. However, there is a bug in co-op where one player can have dialogue text stuck on the screen. This stops all side content and special missions being activated so if you're playing with a friend, make sure neither of you have the bug while you're exploring or the quests won't appear.

Wasteland 3 How To Mod Weapons & Armor

Wasteland 3 How To Mod Weapons & Armor
Modding your weapons and armor provides huge bonuses in Wasteland 3. This Wasteland 3 How To Mod Weapons & Armor guide will tell you everything you need to know to mod out your weapons, drastically improving your squads efficiency and potency in combat.

Before you worry about anything else, you need the Weapon Modding skill. This is a skill that any character can unlock as they earn skill points each time they level. Every weapon mod in the game has a modding level associated with it. So, for example, a Modding Level 3 Scope requires that your character has level 3 modding and that the weapon has a scope slot.

Wasteland 3 How To Mod Weapons & Armor

Wasteland 3 How To Mod Weapons & Armor
Once you have a character with at least 1 Weapon or Armor Modding level, simply select a weapon or armor from your inventory and then choose the modify option. This opens a new interface that allows you to select which weapon or armor mods you want in which locations. As long as you have the modding level, that is the only requirement.

Mods cannot be removed once placed, so save your stronger mods for weapons you will use for a long time. In co-op the modding features works slightly differently as the players skills you can use are those restricted to your party. For example, in my 3 man squad I had a weapon modding specialist called Andromeda. Johnny's 3 man party included an armor modding specialist. I could mod weapons in my inventory for Johnny to use, but he was unable to modify weapons using my characters skill – so that's something to consider specifically for co-op.

How To Sneak & Stealth In Wasteland 3

How To Sneak & Stealth In Wasteland 3
Initiating combat is dangerous in Wasteland 3. This How To Sneak & Stealth In Wasteland 3 explains the basics of initiating combat so that you're able to start each fight on your terms, removing the enemies ability to take several actions before you're able to fire off a single shot.

The actual art of sneaking and stealth, as skills in Wasteland 3, do not exist. There are basic stealth mechanics that are easy to follow. When you approach enemies there is a large red circle around them. This is their area of suspicion. When you are within that red circle, a small icon appears over your head that gradually fills. When that meter is filled, you are detected and the fight starts. If you begin a fight in this manner, the enemy team will usually get a full turn before you're able to act.

How To Sneak & Stealth In Wasteland 3

Sneak & Stealth In Wasteland 3
To sneak in Wasteland 3 is more about placement. When you are running around exploring, you can select the Toggle Group Select option. This removes control over all characters but one. You can use this system to carefully place your characters behind cover and in advantageous positions before the fight begins. Then, if you initiate the fight correctly, you can get a starting turn before your enemies.

After you have placed your troops where you want them, you need to attack. It's usually a good idea to initiate with a strong attack. A grenade, heavy weapon, anything that does a decent amount of damage. You need to use the "Attack Mode" option, which is Triangle on PS4. And then quickly shoot an enemy before you are detected.

The person that does the attack will have the AP reduced for their turn but after that, all of your characters will get a turn in normal turn order.

It's not exactly the type of sneak and stealth we were hoping for, but there is still an art to initiating encounters. Using the tips above, you should find each combat far more enjoyable.

How To Heal & Revive In Wasteland 3

How To Heal & Revive In Wasteland 3
Whatever character you create and team you make, there's going to be some damage involved. This guide on How To Heal & Revive In Wasteland 3 will tell you the different methods of healing your team as well as how to bring them back from the brink of death.

There are three primary methods of healing your characters in Wasteland 3. The easiest to use would be a Doctor, who you can recruit to your Ranger HQ after you complete the mission Full House. There are also Doctors you can find in other areas of the game world but they all do the same thing. For a certain price, free if it's at Ranger HQ, they will heal your team to full and remove all injuries. Note, if you are playing multiplayer, you will have to heal each squad individually, so you'll have to pay for the healing twice.

How To Heal & Revive In Wasteland 3

The other two methods are going to be in combat and out of combat. Out of combat is simple, you open the inventory menu and select the appropriate character. Then simply highlight the medical item you wish to use, select it, and choose "Use on Self". As long as the character has the appropriate First Aid level, they can use the medicine to heal.

In-combat is slightly different. First you need to equip the item from the inventory into one of your Quickslots. Most characters only begin with 2. You can then use the item wheel in-combat to select the item and use it to heal. Most healing items are self targeting but Healing Darts and Medpacks can be used on other characters.

Reviving is much of the same but it does require Action Points. When it's your characters turn, highlight your incapacitated ally. The cost of the revive will be displayed. If you have enough AP, simply select the action and the character will be revived.

Blood Bowl 3 Launching 2021 – Cross-Platform A Possibility

Blood Bowl 3 Launching 2021 - Cross-Platform A Possibility
During the opening night of Gamescom, Nacon and Cyanide released the first official teaser trailer for the upcoming release of Blood Bowl 3, the video-game adaptation of Games Workshops popular tabletop sports strategy hybrid, Blood Bowl.

The rumors surrounding the release have been in full swing in recent weeks, after the official ruleset for the next version of the tabletop game leaked online. Unfortunately the new trailer doesn't show much in terms of actual gameplay, but it does confirm that the game will launch with 12 different teams – including the Black Orc and Imperial Nobility teams already confirmed as the box teams for the new edition of Blood Bowl.

Furthermore, each team can expect far greater levels of support within the game itself. Each of the 12 teams at launch will have their own cheerleaders, stadium, campaign, and multiplayer modes. A drastic improvement on the limited selection currently in Blood Bowl 2.

Arguably, the most exciting aspect of the entire reveal, was a comment from developers Cyanide on the official Twitter account. A fan asked if cross-platform play was a possibility, and it's definitely something being discussed.

Blood Bowl 2 has a strong player-base across all major platforms but uniting that player-base into a single collective will mean huge things for both public and private competitions in the game going forward.

How To Upgrade & Build A Bamboo Boat In Windbound

How To Upgrade & Build A Bamboo Boat In Windbound
Once you find some Bamboo, you can upgrade your boat. This guide on How To Upgrade & Build A Bamboo Boat In Windbound explains how you can piece together the Bamboo Deck and Bamboo Hull so you can have a much bigger boat, allowing for additional storage and a portable campfire.

There may be multiple methods and arrangements when building a better boat but I struggle with slotting together the different pieces. So below is a breakdown, a step by step process, on exactly how you can upgrade your boat to have more space. It's a good idea to save before you try to build a new boat but there is a "Dismantle" option in the Boat Crafting menu, that will allow you to get your resources back if you make a mistake or something goes wrong.

  • Construct a Bamboo deck and place it in the water
  • Make a Bamboo Hull and make sure it connects with the Deck
  • Make another Bamboo Hull and make sure it connects

Step One – Building A Bamboo Deck

Step One - Building A Bamboo Deck
Firstly, you need to build a Bamboo deck. Make sure you place it on the water but not too far out. It's very light and can get carried away with the current quite quickly. It doesn't really matter where it's placed so long as it's on the water.

Step Two – Building A Bamboo Hull

Step Two - Building A Bamboo Hull
Then you need to select to build a Bamboo Hull. You cannot place this piece of the boat by itself, you can only place it when it connects directly to a Bamboo Deck. It's very finicky, so it may take a few tries before it connects. As you can see above, it's connected when it's green. It looks as though it will build under the ground but I didn't have any issues with it.

Step Three – Building Another Bamboo Hull

Step Three - Building Another Bamboo Hull
Build another Bamboo Hull in much the same way and connect it to the other side. You can then use both sides of the boat and the deck to craft additional storage pots or a campfire so you can cook on the go. It does feel a little slower than just the single canoe, but it's worth the additional storage. I didn't have the materials for sails but they will likely help too.

And there you have it, everything you need to know to upgrade and build your bamboo boat in Windbound.
