Disc Room Delayed On Nintendo Switch in Europe By a Week

Disc Room

If you are a European who was excited to download Devolver Digital's latest game, Disc Room, on your Nintendo Switch today, I have some bad news for you. It's been delayed.

The title was due for release today on both PC, via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and the Nintendo Switch, however, some "unfortunate backend platform bumps" have caused the title to be delayed on the latter in Europe. The delay isn't life-changing and the title will still release before the month ends, on October 29, but nonetheless, it's still upsetting for those who were looking to "get sliced in half" today.

For those who own a PC, are willing to sacrifice the portability and are desperate to play the game, it will still be available later today on Steam and the Epic Games Store in all regions.

Disc Room, for those unaware, is a typically Devolver game. The description of the game says:

"The year is 2089 and a giant disc has appeared in orbit of Jupiter. Step into the oversized space suit of a brave scientist and explore this sprawling intergalactic slaughterhouse."

Our full review of Disc Room just dropped and our reviewer Cam Hawkins enjoyed the game, scoring it an 8.5. Of the game, he said:

"The demanding level of challenge in Disc Room makes Devolver Digital's latest title a game that I think most people can and will enjoy, even if there might be some rage-induced screams at the same time."

Europeans should be used to getting things a little late by now. The most recent example of this is regarding the PS5. Sony's next-gen console is due to drop in Europe a week after the rest of the world. Excited players will still have the option to pick up their games and accessories for the console earlier however, if online listings are to be believed.

Steve's Meat Gets the Chop in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Update

When Minecraft's Steve was announced a few weeks ago that he would be joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the news seemed like an odd but funny fit, especially when compared to the other fighters in the game. What was even stranger still was Steve's victory pose where he pulls out a piece of meat, takes a few bites, and then places it down to his pelvis area making this seemingly innocent pose NSFW and rife for potential innuendos for those with a dirty mind. If you happened to enjoy Steve holding his meat, then I'm afraid that it has now got the chop thanks to a new update.

Yesterday, Nintendo announced a new 9.0.1 update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which has since gone live so fans of the game who have downloaded the recent patch, have discovered that Steve now eats the entire piece of meat and then he's left holding nothing when the camera zooms in. If you haven't downloaded the recent update yet or you maybe don't own the game but still want to see what Steve's victory pose looks like without his meat in his hands, check out the short video clip below uploaded by Twitter user Plun_Yu. In the clip, you can clearly see Steve has now been forced to choke down his food instead of taking his time and savoring that big stack of beef all because it looked like a penis. RIP Steve's meat, 2020 – 2020.

Stephen Totilo, Kotaku editor-in-chief, recently interviewed Microsoft's Phil Spencer and obviously had to ask the question whether he had seen Steve's meat yet. After a long pause from Phil, he replied "Yeah. Who did that?" before being told it was actually a genuine screenshot for the game, and saying, "I assume that will be fixed." At least Steve's naughty victory pose will forever live on as a funny meme.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch, with Minecraft's Steve being available as DLC for the game's Fighters Pass.

Disc Room Review — What Kills You Makes You Stronger

Disc Room

I have said it once and I will say it again; Disc Room is a frantic hellscape that I can't get enough of. From the creators of Minit, Sludge Life, and more titles under the Devolver Digital banner, Disc Room is weird, challenging, and addictive to the point where I had to force myself to stop playing it specifically so I could write this review.

You will find yourself dying in seconds only with the immediate want to try again and again in each room you are in. Thanks to its simplistic and tight gameplay, Disc Room is the latest indie title worth your time and money.

Taking place in a giant disc orbiting around Jupiter, Disc Room puts you in the shoes of a yellow astronaut trying to discover its mysteries. It is a simple story through and through with nothing worth highlighting, but alongside it is some of the best pure gameplay that I've experienced this year.

At face value, the main task in Disc Room is to simply survive as long as possible, but there are also reasons to die immediately. Each room has a number of locked doors which have a designated objective that must be completed to unlock. These objectives vary between surviving for a certain amount of time and dying by several different discs. Some rooms are so challenging that even the development team seemingly hasn't completed them. Not only are there objectives in every room, but there is also a leaderboard which shows the best completion time from other players, whether it be worldwide or on your local friends list.

Despite focusing on bringing a challenge to players, there are actually a surprising amount of options to make Disc Room a more lenient experience. By accessing the settings, there are options to lower the speed of discs and other hazards that might show up in each room. Depending on how well you do and what criteria you meet, you may also find a few surprises along the way.

My original thought with being able to play the game early was to try and get the best score in every room, but quickly did I realize that it was near impossible without committing myself to master each level. Not only does Disc Room encourage you to die in scenarios, but there are special discs that will give you abilities once you die. With being able to dash, slow down time, and even clone myself, I found each room to be (slightly) easier, but never giving up on its difficulty. Along with different discs to dodge, there are also several zones throughout the map where rooms have a unique mechanic to move time forward.

While it's a shorter length title, Disc Room has much more content even after you hit credits, bringing a whole new challenge that'll make the main story feel like a cakewalk at times. Even with the number of times that I died I immediately wanted to get back into the fray, leading me to countless more deaths before I finally found success. Disc Room always felt great to play; you never feel like you're not in control, and your deaths are always due to your own errors.

Disc Room provides a difficult experience for those looking for a brutal challenge that you'd be happy to brag to your friends that you've accomplished. Even though there aren't many accessibility features available, as a title that was created by a four-person team, it is still surprising to see the number of options that are there for players who need it. Alongside having dedicated challenges, there is also a speed run timer and more options to make your time with Disc Room even more unforgiving. The demanding level of challenge in Disc Room makes Devolver Digital's latest title a game that I think most people can and will enjoy, even if there might be some rage-induced screams at the same time.

Hideo Kojima and His Team Are Officially Working on a New Project

Hideo Kojima, Kojima Productions

Hideo Kojima now officially has a brand new game under development and he is looking for talented developers to join his team in Tokyo for a new experience.

Nearly one year after launching Death Stranding on PS4, now it's been confirmed that Hideo Kojima has started his new adventure in delivering another video game experience with his team at Kojima Productions. They are currently hiring for in some positions for their Tokyo-based studio.

What the new project would be is everyone's guess right now, but Kojima has spoken about his intentions for creating a horror experience several times before and after Death Stranding. So, my first guess is this one would be something similar to his canceled Silent Hills project at Konami. However, a Death Stranding sequel doesn't sound out of place, regarding the fact that its sales number was satisfying enough for the studio and publishers.

Earlier today, we got to learn that Death Stranding's composer is also working on a new project, but then he clarified that it has nothing to do with Kojima Productions and their project.

After leaving Konami, Hideo Kojima got the chance to create new worlds and bring new IPs to life. His latest attempt, Death Stranding, was a great start point for his independent studio, though it wasn't treated as warmly as his Metal Gear Solid titles by reviewers. The world that Kojima created in Death Stranding surely has a big potential for both a sequel and a prequel.

The next project from Kojima Productions will likely target next-gen platforms, but it's yet to be revealed if there would be any exclusivity deals with a platform holder for the new title. In fact, it depends on how much the new game will cost them and whether they can afford it on their own or not.

Death Stranding Composer Is Working on a New Project, But It's Not Related to Kojima Productions

Death Stranding December Update

After parting ways with Konami, Hideo Kojima finally broke the Metal Gear Solid tradition and brought a brand new IP to life which was surely successful in most aspects. Now, it's everyone's guess that when the next project from Kojima Productions would arrive, especially learning that the composer behind Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain is now working on an "undisclosed project."

Revealed by Ludwig Forssell himself on Twitter, the composer officially confirmed that he is working on a brand new project, but didn't mention what's it related to. Maybe it's not even a game, but Forssell's recent partnerships with Hideo Kojima on his latest story-focused titles leaves us no way other than getting hyped for a possible new game from Kojima Productions. Even if it's a movie, it could be related to Kojima again as he already announced that his studio will develop movies in the future as well.

Despite all the interesting theories above, Forssell later confirmed that his new project has nothing to do with Kojima Productions. However, it could still be a game. But even if it turns out to be a lie, we wouldn't panic as Kojima has a tendency to hide its ongoing projects from the public. We all remember the infamous scenario behind the announcement of P.T. and Silent Hills.

Originally revealed in 2016, Death Stranding was launched for PS4 later last year, receiving mostly positive reviews for its ground-breaking storyline with Hollywood stars and exceptional visuals. That being said, the game wasn't quite successful in delivering entertaining gameplay.

All in all, Death Stranding was a great achievement for Hideo Kojima and his team after leaving Konami and the Metal Gear Solid series. It's yet to be revealed what the next project from Kojima Productions would be, but the boss man has talked about his desire for creating a horror game many times after Death Stranding.

Currently, Death Stranding is available for PS4 and PC. There have been no talks about an Xbox or next-gen version of the game so far, but the studio's next title will surely target next-gen platforms.

Animal Talking Returns With Three More Huge Guests

Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Animal Talking, Brie Larson, dr. lupo, Gary Whitta, Matthew Mercer, Nintendo, Nintendo Switch, Switch, Twitch

Animal Talking has been one of 2020's unexpected delights. The talk show, set inside Animal Crossing: New Horizons, is the brainchild of Rogue One writer Gary Whitta. Since the show's inception earlier this year, it's played host to some of the biggest names in pop culture and gaming. Guests so far have included Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson, Xbox top dog, Phil Spencer and the absolutely delightful Danny Trejo.

The show ran for two seasons but was put on hiatus for Whitta's next venture, Talk Guys. Talk Guys had a similar premise to Animal Talking, a talk show within a video game and looked to capitalise on the success of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. Unfortunately, that show failed to capture the hearts of the audience, so, after a brief tease a couple of days ago, Whitta confirmed that fan favourite Animal Talking would be returning.

Announced on Twitter, the show will be returning this Friday at 7 PM PT and will once again play host to some huge guests. While usually, the show would be live-streamed on Twitch, the complexity of the guests in this episodes means things will have to be done a little differently. Host Whitta said:

"This episode will be a little different FYI… due to the difficulty of scheduling all these guests at the same time the episode was pre-recorded and will debut as a Youtube Premiere Friday 7pm PT/10pm ET. I'll be in the live chat watching along with you!"

The first of the three on the docket is none other than streaming sensation Shroud. Shroud, who signed an exclusivity deal with Mixer before the platform closed down, returned to Twitch recently and hit over 500,000 viewers during his comeback.

Next up is one of British music's most recognisable acts, Gorillaz. The alternative/pop-rock superstars rose to prominence in the early 2000s as an incredibly talented band who performed under the moniker of four virtual musicians. Their biggest hits include Clint Eastwood and Feel Good Inc.

The final guest is a little closer to home for Whitta and is his former Talk Guys Co-host Kate Stark. Stark, who also had a production role on the earlier seasons of Animal Talking, will be guesting on the show for the first time. She herself also dabbles in Twitch streaming and has amassed nearly 50,000 followers on the platform.

Exciting times ahead.

Octopath Traveler Sequel Console Game Development Update Shared by Square Enix Via Famitsu

Octopath Traveler 2nd anniversary artwork sequel story feature

Square Enix and Acquire shared a new development update on the Octopath Traveler sequel on consoles, via this week's Famitsu magazine.

As we get closer to the release of Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent in Japan on October 28, this week's Famitsu magazine (officially titled Weekly Famitsu Magazine November 5, 2020 Issue) included an interview with the game's staff.

Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha, which can be translated to Champions of the Continent, is a prequel to the original, and is a single player full fledged JRPG experience, despite being on Mobile and having gacha elements. It'll even have an actual ending at launch. We translated here most of the interview, focusing on the prequel. The producers also brought up the development hurdles Bravely Default 2 faced.

Back when this prequel was first announced in March 2019, developing studio Acquire mentioned it's also working on a new Octopath Traveler console game. And how we should play this mobile game as we wait for it. The Famitsu interview, with Tomoya Asano, Planning, Producer, and Yuuki Yokoyama, Producer, both at Square Enix, included new comments regarding this sequel. Tomoya Asano said it'll take a little while more until we get news about it.

Tomoya Asano: "I'm looking forward to playing Tairiku no Hasha myself at launch. As for the next Octopath Traveler console game we mentioned in the past, it looks like it'll take a little while until we can reveal more information. Sorry about this. For now, I would be grateful if our console games fans would check out the upcoming Bravely Default II."

Nothing was revealed about the Octopath Traveler sequel besides its existence, so we don't know what kind of name the game will have. Whether it'll be Octopath Traveler 2 or something else. Moreover, I'm calling it a sequel for convenience, but it wasn't confirmed to be a sequel, and so far Square Enix only said it's a "new Octopath Traveler console game".

Personally speaking I have high hopes for the next Octopath console game. Hoping it'll have an even cooler battle system, and fix flaws like the unequal quality of the protagonists' stories and the incredibly boringly designed maps the original game dares to calls "dungeons". I'll definitely be trying out Tairiku no Hasha as well and see how it compares to the original.

Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha was only announced in Japan. However, Square Enix teased an English version. The original Octopath Traveler shipped over 2 million copies too.

Ubisoft Titles Are Getting Cross-Progression and Cross-Play Features Via New Ubisoft Connect Service

Ubisoft Connect

Now that cross-save and cross-progression are a reality and not just a pipe dream, gamers have been pushing for the features to be implemented more and more. Ubisoft has answered the cries with a new service called Ubisoft Connect, a free service that combines its Uplay and Ubisoft Club services into one. Ubisoft Connect will support cross-play and cross-progression for a multitude of upcoming games.

The new service is described as an "ecosystem of players services for Ubisoft games across all platforms" and will launch right next to Watch Dogs Legion on October 29.

Ubisoft Connect will allow players to earn rewards just like they were able to in Ubisoft Club. Ubisoft explained on its FAQ just how the new service will work. It stated: "Your Ubisoft Account has a level, which can increase by completing challenges and earning Ubisoft Connect XP. The more you play, the more you earn XP and level up."

https://twitter.com/Ubisoft/status/1318953136657256450

Rewards can be unlocked with Units, a point system that is earned every time the player reaches a new level. It is noted that there is not an upper-level limit. Those rewards can be unlocked for Ubisoft Connect games and include consumables, character costumes, and weapons skins.

Live games and new releases will use the loyalty scheme. Though, Ubisoft decided to give rewards totaling more than 1,000 from previous games to all players rather than adapting the challenge system used in its back catalog of games.

Ubisoft Connect

Ubisoft Connect will be familiar to Uplay users in terms of social features. However, the one big addition is cross-play and cross-progression between PC and consoles.

The publisher has stated that the goal is to include cross-play for "most" of its multiplayer titles. On top of that, Ubisoft said that cross-progression should work for "new releases", including Hyper Scape, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and Riders Republic.

Ubisoft Connect will be available across PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X\S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, iOS, Android, and the web later this month. If you would like more information on the new service, you can find some on the official website.

Bravely Default 2, Octopath Traveler Producer Explains Via Famitsu How Covid-19 Affected Development

Bravely Default 2 otopath traveler covid-19 story feature photoshop

This week's Famitsu magazine (Weekly Famitsu Magazine November 5 2020 Issue) includes an interview on the Octopath Traveler prequel, Tairiku no Hasha, and also touches on Bravely Default 2, coming exclusively to Switch. Both series have different development teams but share a Producer, Tomoya Asano. In an interview together with Yuuki Yokoyama, the two producers shared interesting tidbits on Octopath Traveler, which we covered, but also on how the Bravely Default team and the Octopath Traveler team were hit differently by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the Famitsu interview, Yuuki Yokoyama mentioned the Octopath Traveler team was previously strengthening itself, hiring a lot of staff and in the process consolidated its communication tools. Creating an environment that makes development easy even through remote work. As such, even when the Covid-19 situation started, the game's development stayed smooth.

In counterpart, Tomoya Asano explained that the Bravely Default 2 team didn't have a remote work environment already planned out like the Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha team, so the game's development suffered a lot because of that. He explained that when the Corona virus state of emergency happened in Japan, from April 8 until May 6. they forcibly switched to remote work without a lot of preparation. And now ever since it was lifted, they're going back to the studio, while being wary of the Three Cs.

Judging from all this, the development of Bravely Default 2 was quite the ordeal. However, we learned since June that the game is in its final stages of development. Moreover, the Bravely Default Japanese Twitter teased in mid October that we'll get news soon. This will possibly be a release date. For now, Bravely Default 2 is only planned for "2020".

You can preorder Bravely Default 2 on Amazon to support us so we can keep bringing you cool and unique coverage like this.
