Remember Genshin Impact? The gacha game that took the world by storm? Well, it's celebrating its one-year anniversary right now, from today (September 28) to October 12. You can get some goodies by participating in various tasks and activities, as is usually the case during Genshin Impact events of all kinds. There's more than one activity to participate in over the course of things, so stay tuned over the next few weeks!
Anniversary Web Event "An Unforgettable Journey" Now Online: Watch your own anniversary theater to obtain Primogems and other rewards
There's a cool trailer you can watch that's full of highlights from Genshin's journey from launch until today. Perhaps of greater interest is a sort of "timeline" that you can participate in, which is sort of a personalized journey that charts your play experience in Genshin Impact over the course of the last year, kind of like a Facebook round-up with highlights. However, the Genshin Impact community is taking MiHoYo to task over for this event, claiming the rewards are incredibly lackluster. How about you, does the anniversary event merit far greater perks?
Feel that chill in the air? We must be entering October. That means a brand new line-up of Xbox Games With Gold titles that are available for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Sure, Games With Gold isn't as prolific as Xbox Game Pass, but who can say no to free stuff?
Let's look at the modern offerings first. Aaero puts you in the cockpit of high-speed vehicle to zip around techno-style environments to a licensed soundtrack while battling bosses and other enemies. On a similar note, Hover also takes place in a futuristic world where you control a gang of rebellious youths fighting against an oppressive government by parkouring around the world in a manner reminiscent of Jet Set Radio. You can play alone or with friends in online co-op.
Now onto the "oldies but goodies." Castlevania: Harmony of Despair offers a cooperative take on Symphony of the Night-style action with a whopping six players tackling a gigantic castle filled with horrors. Finally, Resident Evil Code: Veronica Xis an HD port of the updated version of the Dreamcast classic (got all that?). Below are the dates for when each game becomes available and subsequently disappears.
Aaero: October 1 to 31
Hover: October 16 to November 15
Castlevania: Harmony of Despair: October 1 to 15
Resident Evil Code: Veronica X: October 16 to 31
Don't forget that you can still download the final game from September's Games With Gold, Samurai Shodown II, until September 30. And don't forget that the other Microsoft service that gives away "free" games, Xbox Game Pass, still has a few titles hitting this week from its most recent batch of offerings.
The Castlevania series has been around for decades, and a ton of games have been released in that time span. Lately, Konami has been focusing on releasing previous entries via collections on platforms, including PC and the Nintendo Switch. As for new entries, unfortunately, it's more complicated. According to Castlevania director Yota Tsutsumizaki in remarks […]

Amazon's new massively multiplayer online role-playing game New World opened its doors earlier today, reaching a peak of over 700,000 players. That said, not even Jeff Bezos' piggy bank has kept the MMO's grand debut from being plagued with the usual launch day woes, including ridiculous wait times to just play the…
Deathloop has some of Arkane Studios' biggest, most kinetic-feeling levels to date. Yes, they're beautiful to behold, and a joy to traverse, but their best quality may be a little more subtle. They've proven to be perfect laboratories for players to experiment with ever more dastardly and amusing ways to kill…
Death's Door, an isometric dungeon-crawler that came out for PC and Xbox earlier this year, is a master class in elegant game design. Nowhere is that more apparent than in one late-game boss fight. In pretty much every way—visually, thematically, mechanically, musically—the bout is a tour de force. I cannot stop…
The Neopets developers recently revealed on their website that they are creating NFTs for over twenty thousand customized pets, all in partnership with several blockchain companies. So far, the public response from past and present community members has been overwhelmingly negative.
When Total War: Warhammer III launches early next year, it'll introduce the faction of Grand Cathay along with the daemons of Chaos. Team Big and Red has gotten a lot of screen time in the trailers and teasers we've seen for the strategy game to date, but lately Creative Assembly has been providing more details on Cathay. Now, the studio has introduced the nation's launch-day legendary lords, a pair of celestial demi-gods named Miao Ying and Zhao Ming.
Miao Ying and Zhao Ming are sister and brother, the children of the Celestial Dragon Emperor. As such, they're both literal dragons themselves, capable of switching between dragon and human forms as the situation requires. Miao Ying, the Storm Dragon, is the Emperor's eldest child, and she rules Nan-Gau at the western edge of the Great Bastion in northern Cathay. Known as the City of Smoke, Nan-Gau is an industrial center where Cathay's great weapons of war are forged and smithed.
Her brother Zhao Ming is known as the Iron Dragon, and from his powerful city of Shang-Yang, he rules Cathay's western reaches. As Total War: Warhammer III's campaign begins, Zhao Ming is a bit surrounded. Unlike his sister, whose primary concern is the daemons threatening her from the northern wastes, Zhao Ying's borders are threatened by unruly mobs of Skaven, Greenskins, Ogres, and others - but his status as a dragon may afford him the opportunity to use these factions to his advantage.
New World is already popular. Extremely popular. It's currently the biggest game on Steam by concurrent player count, and the fifth-biggest game in Steam history by that same metric. But not all those New World players are actually playing, as servers have been struggling to keep up, and a big chunk of folks are simply waiting in queues.
Amazon is "continuing to stand up additional servers and will expand the capacity of our existing servers once we have properly tested these changes". In the meantime, the devs are encouraging players trying to log into more congested worlds to consider trying an alternative, and are offering free server transfers once the initial rush settles down.
The devs say a server transfer opportunity is coming "in the next two weeks". In some follow-ups on Twitter, the devs clarify that you'll be able to move to any available server once the transfer option is available, and you'll even be able to switch regions if you need to.
Marvel's Avengers hasn't exactly found a receptive audience on PC in its first year, but its fortunes could be about to change. The superhero co-op game will be coming to Xbox Game Pass at the end of the month, and that includes Game Pass for PC.
If you're just tuning in, Marvel's Avengers is a co-op focused live-service game that lets you play as any one of an expanding roster of Avengers heroes. The initial Reassemble campaign centres on Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, who sets out to get the Avengers team back together after a catastrophic disaster known as A-Day.
Since it launched, Marvel's Avengers has seen several add-on campaigns added which have introduced new characters, the most recent being the new War for Wakanda campaign that brings Black Panther into the mix. Each character has their own set of unique combat and traversal moves, as well as a signature mechanic for building up ultimate energy. If you play as the Incredible Hulk, you can pick up an enemy mook in each hand and clap them together like chalkboard erasers, and Thor's Mjolnir makes an oh-so-satisfying 'DONK' sound when it hits a bad guy in the chin.
Picture the scene. You're playing newly released coloniast theme park New World when who should walk over to you but Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The billionaire says that he's locked out of his bank accounts, but if you buy him several Amazon gift cards, he'll pay you back with "extra" once he gets his access back.
This situation probably can't happen, because "Jeff Bezos" and almost every variation of it aren't permitted names in Amazon's MMO.
Inscryption is reportedly "inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie." It's also from Daniel Mullins, the makers of Pony Island and The Hex, which means it's probably a few other, secret genres, too. It's coming October 19th, but there's a demo available now and a new trailer below.
To put the login issues players are experiencing in context however, it's maybe worth noting that New World is currently the most popular game on Steam, knocking CS:GO from its perch within hours of release.
We're just a couple of weeks away from Back 4 Blood's zombie-slaying shenanigans and the specs for the PC release have now been revealed. As there was a beta that I'm sure most interested folks got to try out, many of us already have a great idea as to how the game will run. This info definitely makes it clear just how easy Turtle Rock Studios has made it to run the game. I got 120 fps at 1440p on an AMD RX 5700 XT, so that's a dead giveaway that nothing here is going to put your head in your hands. Here are the specs straight from the game's Steam page: MINIMUM: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system OS: 64-bit Windows 10 Processor: i5-6600 (3.3 GHz) OR AMD Ryzen 5 2600 (3.4 GHz) Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or Radeon RX 570 DirectX: Version 12 Network: Broadband Internet connection Storage: 40 GB available space Additional Notes: 1080p / 60fps / Low Quality Settings RECOMMENDED: Requires a 64-bit processor and o...
Respawn Entertainment has just announced that it is introducing a new type of narrative event to Apex Legends called Apex Chronicles. The first of these new bite-sized content events begins tomorrow, September 29, and will feature Bloodhound as the lead. The event is titled Old Ways, New Dawn. The goal of these events is to expand on the game's world and inject more lore into it. There's no indication when the first Apex Chronicle will end, but it shouldn't take you more than a few games to complete. How to begin Old Ways, New Dawn The story of this Apex Chronicle involves Bloodhound attempting to save an injured prowler while grappling with the guilt they feel about their dying home world and past failures. So, the first thing you need to know is that the adventure can only be undertaken with Bloodhound. The challenges you will face during the Chronicle will require the specific use of Bloodhound's abilities. You can expect them to be a popular choice tomorrow. The next thin...
