Watch a Dwarf Fortress goblin raid go disastrously wrong

Long-time fans of Dwarf Fortress will be familiar with goblin raids. Once you've established a thriving base, the riches you produce within it becomes irresistible to the violent little brutes, and they come in massive hordes to take it. Dwarf Fortress co-developer Zach Adams has shown off a simple way of dealing with them in the new version of the colony management game due out on Steam (at some point).

Adams' fort is dug into the cliffs that line a waterfall gorge, and it has two upper entrances, both covered by lever-operated hatches. Under normal circumstances, the hatch that's open leads down a long stairway that leads to the water's surface below the waterfall, where there are store rooms, workshops, and meeting areas immediately accessible.

However, when a raid draws near, Adams directs his dwarves to close that hatch and open the one covering the other entrance. The goblins head straight for it, not realising that it isn't just a normal entry into the fortress - instead, this one leads to a long hallway that doubles back on itself and is absolutely jam-packed with lethal traps.

Age of Empires 4 release date, system requirements, and everything else we know

When is Age of Empires 4's release date? Well we've got some good news and some great news. The good news is, we know it's coming in the autumn. The great news is, we know exactly when it's coming - October 28 - thanks to an announcement during Microsoft's press conference during E3 2021.

With the previous Age of Empires landing over a decade ago, anticipation for a new entry in the classic RTS game series couldn't be higher if you placed it atop a saddled war elephant and marched it towards an enemy base.

We have rounded as much Age of Empires IV news as possible, so that you're on the same page as us. Most recently we shared our thoughts from the recent technical beta, and various Age of Empires veterans have also weighed in on the discussion. The Age of Empires 4 system requirements have also been updated.

We'll keep this article updated as and when new information comes to light, but feel free to let us know if there's something important you think we've missed.

You know how the devs are

Terraria has had a lot of final updates, but it seemed like Journey's Actual End might be the real swan song. (It has 'actual' right in the title!) Well, it seems the devs have at least one more last ride in mind, as a pair of teasers indicate that Terraria is crossing over with Don't Starve, and it looks like the games are trading bosses.

In an update on Terraria's Steam page, the devs at Re-Logic showed a gif of the Eye of Cthulhu popping up inside of Don't Starve. "You know how we always say that we are done adding content to Terraria? Well, about that... oh, wait, sorry, wrong game! Carry on, nothing to see here..."

Over on the Don't Starve side, the most recent changelog for Don't Starve Together features a brief clip of the Deerclops appearing within Terraria. (We've played with some brightness sliders to enhance it for the image above.) In a cheeky Twitter exchange, Klei suggests "it will all sort itself out by next month", so it's probably safe to expect to see these updates land soon.

Here are the Destiny 2 Trials rewards this week

Bungie's pinnacle PvP activity is back in rotation with a major revamp, and if you're looking for details on the Destiny 2 Trials rewards this week, you've come to the right place. Before you start working your way up through the ladder, you'll want to know what you're actually working for - so here's a breakdown of what's available each week, and what map you'll be playing on.

If you're not familiar with Trials of Osiris, it's a weekly PvP challenge where you enter a competitive gauntlet of 3v3 elimination matches. Your rewards are now doled out with a reputation system, so it's not about pure wins anymore, but you will still get special rewards if you can manage to go flawless.

Trials lands with the reset every Friday at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST, and lasts until the Tuesday reset at those same times. Each week provides a new set of rewards and a new map to play on, so here's what you can expect for the latest rotation.

Here's where Xur is in Destiny 2 today – Beyond Light, but not beyond Xur

Xûr is Destiny 2's Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game's most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you're a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That's where we come in.

As of June 12, 2020, it appears that Xûr is back to providing random rolls - so the Exotic merchant is providing more excitement than he has in a long time. Xûr appears every Friday at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST, and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We'll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you're reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he's selling this week.

Now we're in Beyond Light territory, but Xûr's first appearances have been at the usual spots - so maybe don't expect too many surprises from the merchant in the new year of Destiny content.

4X game Humankind is getting major balance changes and Steam modding tools

We'll be seeing the next big patch for 4X game Humankind next week, and developer Amplitude Studios has provided some additional details about what we can expect when it arrives. While there are some big balance changes coming in the next update, a few changes are significant enough that they're being held back for a follow-on patch that's set to arrive in the first week of November.

Amplitude confirms that the upcoming patch will add options for resource abundance, allowing you to independently adjust the availability of both strategic and luxury resources when starting a new game. The patch is also introducing new options for the avatar and persona systems, adding a 'random' button for personas when you choose your opponents and a colour picker tool for both empires and subtitles.

In the follow-up patch, Amplitude says it plans to add additional game parameter options that allow you to select which win conditions you want available in each game you begin. You'll be able to turn off pollution and disable the turn timer, so you can slug it out to the bitter end.

     Valheim is getting Mountain caves

Valheim's Hearth and Home update has been with us for a month now, and the devs at Iron Gate are starting to offer a few more details on what's next. Some of these Valheim updates are still quite far out, but the Mistlands will be the next big biome update. However, that's still quite far away - in the meantime, the studio's working on Mountain caves.

Iron Gate stresses that the images you're seeing are merely concepts, but those concepts look mighty enticing. As the devs explain in a blog post, "currently, our dungeon master Erik is teaming up with the art department to work on something to make the Mountains a bit more interesting, especially for those of you who love to explore new places".

Those caves are planned as one part of a series of smaller updates to help fill the time until the proper Mistlands get added to the game. The devs note that it's "still too early to say what the implementation of the Mistlands will mean for your existing worlds," so you should maybe be prepared to let go of some old stuff if you want to explore the new biome.

CD Projekt buys ex-BioShock dev studio to make a new Witcher or Cyberpunk game

CD Projekt has bought indie developer The Molasses Flood in order to work on a project "within one of their existing universes" - meaning that a team filled with BioShock veterans is now working on a new Witcher or Cyberpunk game.

The Molasses Flood was formed following the collapse of Irrational Games post-BioShock Infinite and is staffed with developers behind BioShock, Halo 2, and Rock Band - including BioShock's art director and BioShock Infinite's lead level designer. Its most recent game was last year's Drake Hollow, which is best described as a more compelling Fortnite: Save The World.

In a statement today, The Molasses Flood announced that it was joining CD Projekt. Buying an indie studio is an unprecedented move for the studio behind The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, which normally builds all of its projects in-house - from its biggest titles to smaller games like the card game Gwent. The Molasses Flood confirms it'll be keeping its name and CD Projekt would support the studio's "own culture and growth".

EU4 player maps out the strategy game's trade nodes to show which is better

While you could debate until the cows come home which Paradox grand strategy game is the most complex, Europa Universalis IV is definitely up there on the difficulty scale. One of the areas new players can especially find difficult is trade, a system that's changed several times since launch.

In the current version of the game, there are a handful of trade nodes based in Europe that are considered 'end nodes' - as in, trade flows into this node, but not outwards like with other nodes where there are both incoming and outgoing connections. This is an attempt to simulate the prominent trading hubs that emerged during the time period EU4 covers, and how certain regions tended to dominate trade in Europe.

It's niche as hell, but there's a debate among the player base as to which end node is the most lucrative to control. The current consensus appears to be that the English Channel is the best, followed closely by Genoa, with the Venice node being the worst. User Wureen on the EU4 subreddit has created a visual representation showing how many regions of the world feed into which endnotes, and the results seem conclusive.

New Intel Alder Lake leak suggests it could cost almost as much as an RTX 3080

Just a few weeks ago, an Amazon UK listing suggested that Intel's top line Alder Lake could cost almost as much as a gaming PC. Thanks to a fresh retail leak, we have a price tag for Intel's flagship gaming CPU, and while its price isn't quite as high as before, it comes close to the price of an Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics card.

According to a Microcenter listing spotted by Momomo_us, the i9-12900K will retail for $669.99, while its i7-12700K CPU sibling is priced at $549.99. Both Alder Lake chips are more expensive than Intel's Rocket Lake was at launch, with the i9 model costing almost as much as an RTX 3080 and more than our best cheap gaming PC build. Naturally, a rig armed with Intel's top tier processor could run rings around a $600 machine, but the fact you can get a full PC for less than the blue team's upcoming flagship CPU puts things into perspective.

The listing also confirms previous spec leaks for the i9-12900K, which state the chip has 16 cores and a boost clock of 5.2 GHz. As this is also an enthusiast-grade model, the package comes without a heatsink fan, so if you're planning on picking up this pricey processor, you'll need to factor in additional CPU cooler costs. If you're planning on overclocking, you might even need to invest in an AIO water cooler, as it requires 330W of power.

The best Stellaris DLC – a complete guide

The Stellaris DLC library continues to grow as Paradox's improves their take on a space 4X game. While it's not quite yet the size of the studio's other grand strategy games like Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II, after five years it's catching up. Regardless, there is still enough of it that frugal gamers may need some help picking through the options.

We've sent our science ships to scan each add-on for value, and how much they actually add to the game, and return with their results. So, come check out our breakdown of all of the add-ons and expansions released to date, what they're good for, and whether they're worth picking up.

There's a fair few higher-priced expansions where the cost vs what you get can feel a little steep considering the feature sets can be quite lean. Since most major expansions are released alongside a free update, there's an argument to be made that you're subsidising all of the work that's gone into the free patch. As far as value for money goes, though, you might be better off waiting until these are on sale - it's your call.

GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition has higher specs than Red Dead Redemption 2

The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition was finally confirmed earlier this month, but other than a few basic details Rockstar didn't provide much information. Now the studio has lifted the lid on the all-new GTA Trilogy, providing the release date trailer, screenshots... and its rather sizeable price and specs, which are higher than Red Dead Redemption 2.

The GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition comprises Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas, which have all been remastered with higher resolution textures, greater draw distances, improved effects, and a "completely rebuilt lighting system". The games have also been updated with GTA5-style controls and a few quality of life improvements, like being able to immediately restart failed missions.

The release date for the improved GTA trilogy is November 11 and it will cost £54.99/$59.99 - which from Rockstar's own store costs £5 more than the standard edition of its most recent game Red Dead Redemption 2 and more than twice the price of Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition, both of which include their popular online sides too.

The best weapons in New World for PvP and PvE

Looking for the best New World weapons? Amazon's new MMO game eschews the usual class system and gives players the ability to wield any of the game's eleven weapons freely. As you use a weapon, you gain mastery points in it, which you use to unlock skills and buffs in either of the weapon's two talent trees. You can choose up to three weapon skills that become available to you when that weapon is equipped, and you have two weapon slots, which you can switch between easily during combat without messing around in menus.

Though you can switch weapons at any point, it pays to choose two to specialise in and invest points into - especially as the skills at the end of each weapon's talent trees are particularly powerful. Each weapon scales off a specific primary attribute, and some of them also scale off a second attribute. As you level and gain attribute points, it's important to assign points to suit your chosen loadout.

When deciding which weapons to pick, it's definitely beneficial if both your weapons scale with the same attributes, although there are ways to get around this - for example, amber gems convert a percentage of your weapon's damage to nature damage, which scales off Focus. This means if you want to build high Focus for your Life Staff, you can still benefit from that investment when it comes to dealing damage with your other weapon.

The best New World rapier build for PvP and PvE

Looking for the best New World rapier build? There are plenty of powerful New World weapons to choose from, and because Amazon's new MMO doesn't limit you to a single class, players are able to try out every weapon in the game before deciding which ones to level up.

The rapier is an instant favourite for many players who enjoy its swishy, nimble playstyle. It's a graceful yet ferocious weapon that is capable of dealing a large amount of single target damage, and has plenty of mobility skills in its arsenal to help you sidestep dangerous foes.

The rapier doesn't offer too much in the way of crowd control - it's best suited to one-on-one situations, whether that's dueling foes in PvP or facing formidable PvE bosses. It's also a melee weapon, so you may want to run a ranged weapon alongside it, particularly if you spend time in New World wars, prefer leveling solo, or want more versatility for open-world PvP. No matter the situation in which you intend to wield it, here are the best New World rapier builds.

Cyberpunk 2077's best characters aren't meant to be loved

The bright neon lights of Cyberpunk 2077's Night City twinkle invitingly as you gaze at it from the craggy desert hills of the Badlands, but as you approach it and it begins to surround and swallow you, the lights fade and you find yourself in the grime and sweat below. CD Projekt Red's sprawling and troubled RPG game may have made its share of missteps - the aggressive marketing campaign and buggy launch perhaps chief among them - but it gets a lot of things right, too.

One area where Cyberpunk 2077 - which you can buy here, coincidentally - really shines is in its cast of characters. The people V meets in the streets of Santo Domingo and the dusty desert trails of the Badlands are complex and layered, often brought to life by masterful vocal performances and animation. In keeping with the finer traditions of the cyberpunk genre, these characters can rarely be understood as being either good or bad - far more often, they're desperate people trying to navigate a world full of bad options.

Here's news editor Carrie Talbot and senior news writer Ian Boudreau, talking about Cyberpunk 2077's dramatis personae - who these people are, and why they're so appealing... even if they make you hate them sometimes.

New World fishing hotspots and how to get fish oil

Want to know everything about fishing in New World? Fishing is one of many different trade skills in New World, and catching rare fish takes a lot of work. Sometimes a quest asks for you to catch certain types of fish. Of course, you could just buy them from the New World trading posts, and the bots are out there filling its shelves, but as the famous saying goes - If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Teaching your character to fish opens up new possibilities, but it's more complicated than just casting a line and reeling in fish. The quality of your equipment makes rarer fish appear more frequently, and the types of bait you can attach to your fishing pole work differently depending on whether you fish near the sea, or from riverbanks and lakes.

So here is everything you need to know about fishing in New World, from how to craft better fishing poles, what each fishing pole perk does, how to get bait, and where to find fishing hotspots.

How to manage cables – six ways to keep your gaming PC neat and tidy

You're all done installing the best graphics card and the best gaming CPU you could get your hands on, but your PC still looks like it'll be ridiculed on Reddit. What gives, you ask? The likelihood is you haven't spent enough time neatening up the interior, when if you manage cables just right, your rig can stand proudly atop your desk rather than hidden away underneath it.

When the majority of cases out there are designed to show off the innards of your gaming PC, with a shiny tempered glass window, what's the point of having RGB lighting if you're not going to do a little caretaking? Really, you've no reason not to, unless you're one of those rogues that takes no pride in a well-kept PC. It's relatively quick, easier than you think, and there are absolutely no downsides. Not only does it look prettier, but perfect cable management will stop wires impeding the airflow of your fans, granting you lower temperatures and a quieter-running system, which can translate to better performance and give you an advantage when it comes to overclocking your CPU and GPU.

Of course, you could just cheat by packing everything behind the best gaming motherboard and jamming the side panel back on, but there are far more elegant solutions out there. Follow these six steps of cable management and your setup could look like it's been done by a professional in no time.

The best New World hatchet build for PvP and PvE

Looking for the best New World hatchet builds? Amazon's new game moves away from the traditional class system found in other MMOs - instead, you have two slots to equip any New World weapon you like, which you can swap between at any time to rack up weapon experience points for every foe you defeat.

As you level up your weapons, you assign mastery points, unlocking powerful abilities and buffs to increase your potency on the battlefield. Each weapon also scales off particular attributes like strength or intelligence, so working out a combination that synergises well is important. The hatchet scales primarily off strength, but also dexterity - this means there's plenty of flexibility when it comes to customising a New World hatchet build.

The hatchet is a particularly formidable weapon due to the Berserk ability, which grants you a substantial attack damage boost, and can be upgraded to increase your movement speed, give you massive health regeneration, and grant immunity to crowd control. Here you'll find the best New World hatchet builds for PvP and PvE, but we also have some for other weapons.      Age of Empires 4 release times drop as the RTS game goes gold

Age of Empires IV has officially gone gold. More than that, we also know what time the RTS game will be releasing across the globe come October 28 when it's made available for the masses.

The release times came via the official Xbox Japan Twitter account, although at the time of writing the schedule has yet to be corroborated by any of the firm's other social channels. For our American readers, you'll be able to get your hands on the game from 8 am Pacific, 11 am Esatern Time. That's 4 pm here in the UK, and 5 pm for those on Central European Time. Sorry Australians, you'll have to stay up late, as it doesn't unlock until 2 am October 29 in Aus EDT.

In case you weren't familiar with the term, 'going gold' refers to the point prior to a game's release where the code is 'frozen', and sent out to other departments for distribution. This was of more importance during the age of physical media, although it still means that any fixes or tweaks that come after this week will appear in a day one patch, if there is one, or whenever the first official update lands.

Battlefield 2042 release date, early access, and everything we know

Want to know what the Battlefield 2042 release date is? EA Dice's latest entry to the Battlefield series takes the game to the year 2042 - not much has changed, but the world is on the brink of war. The extreme weather conditions caused by global warming have led to thousands of deaths, collapsed economies, and broken alliances. Okay, maybe quite a lot has changed in 21 years.

Battlefield 2042 incorporates unique gameplay features which utilise the latest PC and console hardware. The treacherous weather effects aren't just a plot point either; storms and tornadoes dynamically hit busy areas on the map, forcing players to adjust to new conditions. Battlefield 2042 will be able to run on low spec hardware, but if you have a capable PC you will be able to participate in matches featuring up to 128 players.

One of the biggest changes to Battlefield 2042 comes in the form of the new specialist system, allowing players to customise their loadouts exactly the way they want. Players won't be forced to pick an underused class just to use a specific gun; instead you can choose your favourite weapon to complement your chosen specialist's unique specialty and trait. Here's everything you need to know about Battlefield 2042, including details about the upcoming open beta and the release date.

     Jade Empire 2 was

Following the release of BioWare's Jade Empire in 2005, the studio had been working on a sequel alongside the development of Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect - although it was eventually sidelined for those projects. Now ex-BioWare developer Mark Darrah has shared details on Jade Empire 2, including how it was "cancelled on its best day".

Darrah, who recently served as Dragon Age 4's executive producer until he left in December 2020, has been posting videos about his 23 years at BioWare. The most recent in his "memories and lessons" series is on the development of Jade Empire 2 - which you can see below - and includes how the project progressed to a modern-day setting through to a new project codenamed "Revolver", before ultimately being cancelled.

Darrah reflects how Jade Empire 2 started as a "fairly direct" sequel set a few decades after the original before the move to Mass Effect's Unreal engine prompted the team to "a modern setting set within the Jade Empire universe" - set centuries after the "Sacrifice" bad ending of the original.

The best Genshin Impact Albedo build

Looking for the best Genshin Impact Albedo build? Albedo is a handsome young scholar and 'alchemical genius' who uses his expertise as Chief Alchemist and Captain of the Investigation Team to create beautiful yet devastating Geo flowers that explode with area-of-effect damage.

He can be built as a DPS if you so choose, but even though he's a one-handed sword user, we believe his strengths lie in the sub-DPS role, as his Elemental Burst and Elemental Skill abilities provide huge area-of-effect damage that scales from his defense stat. In order to maximise Albedo's damage, his Elemental Skill, Solar Isotoma, should be cast in each fight, as it deals AoE Geo damage to foes in the area through its Transient Blossoms. If there's a Solar Isotoma on the field when Albedo casts his Elemental Burst, it will generate seven Fatal Blossoms, which each explode and deal a ton of damage.

Gathering foes into a small area will maximise the burst damage from Fatal Blossom, as each enemy will be tracked by one blossom, leading to massive damage if they're clustered together. For this reason, Venti or Sucrose are ideal teammates for Albedo, as they can group foes together with their ults. Albedo also synergises well with Klee - and since they're essentially siblings, running them on the same team is extra adorable. Here's our Genshin Impact Klee build and Genshin Impact Venti build in case you've got either of these characters - but rest assured, Albedo is a valuable asset to any team. Here's what you need for the best Genshin Impact Albedo build.

How to get the best New World gear

Wondering how to get the best New World gear? There are a few ways to get your hands on new pieces of armour and New World weapons - you can pick them up as drops from enemies or in chests, purchase them from the marketplace or your New World faction shop, or craft them by hand.

You may be content just to upgrade your equipment as you go if you're close to the gear's equip level - the easiest way to get good gear is from the faction shop. However, if you're looking to get the most out of your character for New World PvP or high level content, you'll probably want to seek out even better gear.

If you're after the highest gear scores and the best perks and attributes for your build, you can either craft gear to your exact specifications, or hope that high level weapons drop from enemies. At level 60, the New World gear progression changes a little, and a 'watermark' system is introduced for high level gear. Here's everything you need to know about gear in New World.

Intel thinks Gaming CPU and graphics card shortages could last untill 2023

Intel has a lot in the pipeline for 2022, and Pat Gelsinger hasn't been shy about the company's ambitions - especially when it comes to crushing Apple and AMD with its Alder Lake CPUs. However, while the blue team boss is optimistic about Intel's future in the gaming PC space, he thinks that semiconductor shortages will persist beyond 2022.

In an interview with CNBC, Gelsinger claims that the component shortage will get "incrementally better" but says there won't be a "supply-demand balance until 2023". Like with a similar statement made by AMD's Lisa Su, the Intel CEO doesn't give a specific timeframe for when supply issues will subside. However, the fact that both company heads agree that the situation won't resolve itself this year provides the forecast with some clout.

The ongoing global pandemic is somewhat to blame for disrupting semiconductor supplies, but events like China's mandated industrial power shutdown also isn't helping. Naturally, if global shortages continue, upcoming products like Intel's Alder Lake lineup, Nvidia's RTX 3080 refresh, and AMD's Zen 4 processors could be in limited supply.

When I think back to the ggames of my childhood, nothing puts a warm, fuzzy smile on my face like Warcraft 2. As one of the few PC games I had growing up, I ended up playing the campaign over and over again - or at least starting it over and over again - for what felt like actual years. I loved building up my fort and endlessly poking the peasants and peons until they shouted back at me in annoyance, and man alive, there is nothing sweeter than ordering a tooled-up army across the map and absolutely wrecking the enemy in one fell swoop of doom and destruction.

It is something I wish I could play again now with all my heart. I know there's version of it on GOG, but I'd also just quite like, you know, a newer, shinier version with a more up to date UI and all that jazz, and one whose map didn't whizz over to the other side of the screen with a single tap of the arrow key. I'd also like a version that isn't, somehow, made by Activision Blizzard because... *gestures to all their ongoing harassment lawsuits*. Fortunately, I've happened upon a couple of games in recent weeks that have really scratched that old Warcraft 2 itch of mine. I've already written about one of them - Diplomacy Is Not An Option - and the other is Age Of Darkness: Final Stand, a game with the most boring name imaginable, but is secretly very good.

Change isn't for everyone: just ask the 5% of Steam Hardware Survey respondents still using Windows 7. Sadly, even the most eager of early adopters might be looking to find out how to uninstall Windows 11, the very latest of Microsoft's operating systems. It could be the newly centralised Start menu; it could be the lack of DirectStorage support among games making the best SSDs perform below their full capability; it could just be a single unsquished bug, which remains a risk with the infant OS. Fortunately, if you decide to want to switch back to Windows 10 within 10 days of installing its successor, it's possible to roll back in just a few, mildly regretful clicks.

Alright, fine, here's how to upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10. The current stance of this hardware ed is that Windows 11 has some cool features but is yet to fulfil its potential, largely owing to the missing DirectStorage capability – which, to be fair, could be a very big deal when games start supporting it. For now, then, it's a free but absolutely not an essential upgrade, and you can think of this post as the RPS equivalent of that video where Valve tore down a Steam Deck: we're not saying you should do this, just that you can do this.

Grasshopper NeteaseFounded by renowned game director Goichi "Suda51" Suda, Grasshopper Manufacture has had a long history of putting out eccentric, niche games with devoted cult followings. Although the studio wields creative energy akin to that of many modern indie developers, it has always worked under the constraints of major publishers and companies to some degree. From January 2013 until just recently, Grasshopper remained a subsidiary of GungHo Online Entertainment, a Japanese studio known for its involvement with games like Ragnarok Online. That no longer remains the case, as Grasshopper announced that Chinese company NetEase Games has acquired the studio. In a recent statement, NetEase Games spoke highly of Grasshopper, calling the studio "one of a kind in terms of mood-setting, movement design, and narrative rhythm design." The company referred to Grasshopper's "strong passion for creativity" as "admirable," and expressed excitement over &...

Valheim Mistlands Biome Update Mountain CavesDespite just launching Valheim's first major content release last month, developer Iron Gate AB is already discussing what's next. And this time, it's "more on adventure and exploration than on building." The team is working on a new biome for Valheim, called Mistlands, and soon the game will include mountain caves for your Viking to wander through. Much of what's discussed in today's blog post is light on details. However, the new places to discover should scratch that adventurer's itch. The new Mistlands biome in Valheim is looking to insert even more creepiness in the game. I mean, the swamps are bad enough. But the latest screenshot showing the developer's work in progress does add a healthy dose of Silent Hill to the mix. Mistlands is pretty much self-explanatory: a dark biome shrouded in a thick fog. There's some greenery in the screenshot, and nary a tree to be seen. Of course, it's only a glimpse of what the b...

Corpse Party (2021) Pc Worth It 1At this point, it's a little confusing as to what each version of Corpse Party is, so I'm going to break it down before getting to whether or not Corpse Party (2021) is worth it on PC. There's been a similarly-titled version of the game on Steam for five years. If you had any interest in the series prior to now, you probably played that one. To be more precise, Corpse Party first debuted in 1996 on the NEC PC-9801 line of home computers in Japan, using an earlier version of what would become RPG Maker. It attained a significant degree of popularity and the first four chapters of the game later saw a remake for mobile phones as Corpse Party: New Chapter. The last episode was never finished, though. The PC port we got on Steam in 2016 was the finished and expanded version of the mobile game with better visuals and voice acting, and it first released in Japan in 2011. In Japan, this PC version was known as Corpse Party Blood Covered. This version was further improved ...

Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy Definitive Edition Remaster Release Date Comparison Trailer FeatTwo weeks following its reveal, the Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster has short comparison trailer, as well as a release date. And it's coming sooner than you think. The exhaustively named Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition (why use "the" twice, c'mon) will be available on November 11 on the Rockstar Games Launcher for PC. The comparison trailer should give you a good idea of how the game will look. But here's a spoiler: it's a lot better than what was speculated. There were concerns that the Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster would only have a few touch-ups, but the comparison trailer puts that theory to bed. I honestly think the collection looks superb when paired with footage of the original games. Let's be frank, we probably all remember the games looking better in our youth. In the trailer, we clearly see improved lighting and shadow, higher resolution textures, and some nice reflections on vehicles.   Rockstar p...

Tandem: A tale of two shadows reviewThere are some movies out there that I consider to be "half-horrors." Films that aren't necessarily shocking, but completely capable of giving you the creeps. Creepy button-up doll eyes or the uncanny valley Claymation set in Halloween are some of the things that come to mind. Tandem: A Tale of Two Shadows fits there perfectly, with the game's terrifically gothic setting, a creepy doll with a hunchback and a protagonist with an incredibly uncanny look. While the setting of the world is undeniably gripping, this short four-hour puzzle game never completely cashes in on its promising gothic vibe. Perhaps this is because the narrative is a little shallow, save for a bombastic twist ending, or that the characters of the game never actually make any sense. But at its heart, Tandem: A Tale of Two Shadows isn't a story-based game, no matter how much nonsensical lore the game wants to contain. Tandem is a puzzle game that strives to act as a unique wedge in the...
