Age of Empires 4 Rus civilisation guide

While the Rus aren't the most difficult Age of Empires 4 civilisation, they have more unique content than most of the other launch factions. A unique resource drop-off point, their own version of the outpost, not to mention three unique units, means the Rus are better able to exploit their particular niche for maximum effect, without requiring you to re-learn how to play the game.

The Hunting Cabin is the lynchpin of the Rus economy - it replaces the Mill, and food can still be dropped off at it, but it can also generate gold depending on how many trees are nearby, although this rate will decrease if there are too many other cabins nearby. It can also produce scouts, and houses technologies to improve food production.

Beyond that, they are another defensive-focused civilisation, more-so perhaps than the English as they have access to stronger palisades and gateways. They also have some naval focused bonuses as well - one of their unique units is a ship, and Rus fishing boats don't need to drop off their food haul at a dock. Let's take a look at their abilities in more detail.

Intel Alder Lake i9-12900K gaming CPUs are already in the hands of customers

Intel officially revealed its Alder Lake desktop processors on October 27, and you can pre-order them right now if you can find any in stock. While they won't land on shelves until November 4, a lucky few are already getting to grips with what's shaping up to be the best gaming CPU around, the Core i9-12900K.

Several users on the Intel subreddit claim to have their hands on the flagship i9-12900K ahead of release, some complete with pictures of the product packaging. While buyers receiving their shiny new tech prior to the official street date is nothing new, some also claim that retailer Newegg has called them and explicitly asked them not to disclose their early shipment.

It's understandable why Newegg would do this, as we're sure Intel won't be best pleased, but as these people aren't bound by an NDA, there's very little that can be done to correct this mistake. However, it appears that no one has received Z690 motherboards alongside their early processor, and so we'll have to wait a little longer for third-party performance benchmarks.

Oculus Quest 2 VR headset could ditch its Facebook login requirements

The company formerly known as Facebook is now called Meta, and with the new name comes a bunch of new virtual reality ambitions. While the social media group's Oculus Quest 2 headset is an integral part of its VR venture, it looks like the tech could break free from the shackles of Facebook account logins in the future.

During last night's Connect live stream, Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, revealed that the company is "working on making it so you can log in into Quest with an account other than your personal Facebook account". The head honcho also states that tests involving select accounts will commence soon, with plans to extend the changes across the platform "within the next year."

As things currently stand, the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset needs an active Facebook account to access the device's games and storefront. Naturally, this caused a bit of a pickle for users during the recent Facebook outage, as being cut off from the servers transformed the gaming PC goggles into an expensive paperweight.

Now's your last chance to grab one of the best Star Wars games with Prime Gaming

Update - October 29, 2021: The November batch of Prime Gaming games is nearly upon us, so now's your last chance to grab October's offerings. Original story follows.

Another month, another batch of games headed to Amazon's Prime Gaming. Last month, members could get their hands on another classic LucasArts game - Sam & Max Hit the Road - as part of their subscription. For October, there's something somewhat related, though far newer and, well, Star Wars-ier coming to Prime Gaming - one of the best Star Wars games around, Star Wars: Squadrons.

Amazon has unveiled its October Prime games lineup, which is headed up by Motive Studios' 2020 space combat game. Launched just under a year ago, Star Wars: Squadrons sees you take to a galaxy far, far away in the first-person cockpits of starfighters across the Galactic Empire and New Republic navy. The game was pretty warmly received by critics, currently sitting at a score of 79% on Metacritic, while our very own Ian Boudreau gave it a nine-out-of-ten, concluding that, "after such a long wait for a successor to X-Wing and TIE Fighter, Star Wars: Squadrons feels like a lucky shot with a proton torpedo".

Elsewhere in October's mix of ten new Prime games is the 2014 survival horror game Alien: Isolation and 2020 cyberpunk game Ghostunner (which we scored an eight-out-of-ten in our Ghostrunner review).

The Logitech G502 Hero gaming mouse is 50% cheaper on Amazon

Nothing quite beats wrapping your hand around a perfectly shaped mouse, with all the right grooves to fit your grip style. For many right-handed gamers, that's the Logitech G502, with its elongated frame, thumb rest, and more buttons than you can shake a stick at. While it's worth the $79.99 / £79.99 asking price, it's a much sweeter purchase knowing you can get one of the best mice around for half price.

Stocks don't tend to last very long, but while it's available you can get the Logitech G502 Hero 50% ($40) cheaper on Amazon US, making for a slimmer $39.99 price tag. Amazon UK customers can take 40% (£32.33) off, bringing the price tag down to £47.66.

The G502's design has been around for a while, with the original rodent considered the best gaming mouse for a few years after it launched in 2014. This model is an upgraded version that sports the same proprietary Hero 25K sensor Logitech uses in all its flagship rodents today. With one of the highest performing DPIs in the industry, just imagine how many 360s you can do before hitting that headshot.

Valheim's soundtrack is here with Viking beats and bangers aplenty

Odin's beard! At long last, the official Valheim soundtrack has dropped, so now you can fill your days with Viking beats and bangers even when away from the survival game. Iron Gate has announced the good tidings on the Viking game's Twitter channel, and the soundtrack's now available to grab on either Steam as a purchasable download or to stream on Spotify.

The Valheim OST has 20 tracks you'll recognise from across the game and its recent expansion, Hearth and Home, and will set you back £5.21 / $7.19 right now if you decide to pick it up on Steam (that price reflects a 10% discount currently applied as the game's included in Steam's Halloween sale, which ends November 5). There's a variety of themes in the mix, with some slower, more moving tracks like Flight Into Valheim and Dawn Arrives includes, alongside the cosy tunes The Meadows - A Place to Rest and Home - A Place To Enjoy.

There are also some real bangers in the listing, like the metal-infused Eikthyr Rides and Elder Awakens. Oh, and the slammin' Yagluth Reigns. And then there's the game's memorable menu music, Welcome to Valheim, if you like to bask in the feeling of booting up the game for your next adventure.

New World PvP guide – the best builds and combat tips

Looking for New World PvP tips and builds? Player-vs-player combat is a large part of the New World experience - although it is possible to opt out of it, the MMO has been designed to encourage clashes between players. PvP becomes available to you once you've joined one of the three New World factions. These factions form the basis of the player-vs-player conflict in New World, so pick the dominant faction if you want lots of backup, or the underdogs if you want to PvP as much as possible.

There are a few different forms of player-vs-player combat in Amazon's MMO. The most accessible is open-world PvP, which takes place outside settlements between players of all levels. To enable open-world PvP in New World, press 'U' while within a safe area, called a 'sanctuary'. Upon leaving the safe area, a 30-second cooldown begins, after which you are vulnerable to other players.

There's also large scale 50v50 PvP in the form of Wars, and the Outpost Rush mode which unlocks at level 60. We've put together some advice on how to choose your New World PvP build, and some tips that will help you get the edge on your opponents in battle. These tips are all based on beta gameplay, so there may be some changes to come when we know more about the weapon balance in the full release.

     Genshin Impact Chongyun hangout guide

Looking for a Chongyun hangout event walkthrough? Genshin Impact Hangout events arrived with the game's 1.4 update. They're multiple-choice, branching quests with several possible endings. Which one you will get depends on the dialogue options you choose.

There are four hangout events currently available, each unlocked with two story keys. Playing through all possible paths for each character grants you additional rewards and achievements. However, not every dialogue option leads to one of Chongyun's six 'endings' - during the hangout event, there's a heartbeat meter in the top right, and if you misstep while talking to him, he'll lose hearts and potentially end the hangout early.

Even if you slip up and he ditches you, you can still restart the hangout event from the beginning, or drop into any of the story checkpoints you've previously unlocked. No need for trial and error here, though - we're here to guide you through every possible ending for Chongyun's hangout event, including secret achievements.

Age of Empires 4 cheats – what you need to know

Cheat codes are a strong staple of strategy games, and Age of Empires as a series is known for some great ones. From magical bears to cars that can fire lasers, you've been able to do some weird and wonderful things via the command console. Check out our guides to Age of Empires 3 cheats or Age of Empires 2 cheats if you want an idea of what past RTS games have done.

Will Age of Empires 4 have cheats? Yes - World's Edge creative director Adam Isgreen confirmed in an interview with Rock,Paper,Shotgun that cheats would be coming post-launch, but they're not in the game currently. What the timetable is going to be is unknown, as it really depends on whether there were any consumer-friendly cheats used during game development.

For cheats that involve funny super units, the art for those would need to be created as well, assuming they weren't done prior to launch. It's not as simple and flicking a switch and making everything available for the masses. We'll let you know as soon as Age of Empires 4 cheats become available.

Dota 2's new hero Marci has arrived – here are her abilities

Earlier this month Valve unveiled the next character coming to the Dota 2 heroes roster: Marci, who actually debuted in the MOBA game's Netflix anime show spinoff, Dota: Dragon's Blood. Well, today's the big day for the new hero's arrival in-game - Marci has come to the live game alongside gameplay update 7.30e, which brings a raft of item and hero balance changes, too.

"Today Marci powers her way from Dota: Dragon's Blood into the battle of the Ancients as the newest hero to join the fight, proving that undying loyalty yields unrivalled power," the studio announces in a blog post shared today on the game's site. "Marci marches into battle ready to raise fists in defence of her companions."

There's a new Marci update page giving us a good idea of what the hero brings, in terms of both her backstory and gameplay styles, and Valve's now shared a full rundown of Marci's abilities, too. From the sounds of it, Marci will mirror her anime counterpart's ability to bring down enemies far bigger than herself given her melee-based ability kit - take a look at the full breakdown of her skills below (via Valve).

League of Legends patch 11.22 notes – Preseason 2022 changes, Arcane skins

Now that League of Legends patch 11.21 has made its way to live servers, it's time to take a look at what's next for Riot's popular MOBA game. We're slowly coming to the end of the League of Legends' 2021 patch schedule, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty still ahead.

The headline of this patch is the raft of Preseason 2022 changes. Riot says that the tweaks will be available on the PBE for the next four weeks to ensure the team gets all the feedback it needs before going live with the final set of updates in November. The developer also says that things are pretty early, so expect changes to things like icons, item and effect names, visual and sound effects, stat values, and more.

That's not all you're getting, though. Jayce and Vi are also getting some rather dapper looking Arcane skins, while Blizcrank will have a Victorious skin, as victorious is he. The patch cycle has just begun, so there's still much more to come, but we're off to a nifty start.

Genshin Impact codes October 2021 – how to redeem free primogems

Looking for Genshin Impact codes? MiHoYo's charming open-world game is notoriously addictive, and if you're anything like us, you're constantly on the lookout for more Genshin Impact primogems and other goodies.

Gathering currency in Genshin Impact can be quite the grind - while you can earn mora and primogems by completing quests such as daily commissions, an injection of extra funds will always be gratefully received. Fortunately, the developers occasionally send out free gifts in the form of codes that can be redeemed online.

These Genshin Impact codes are released periodically. They frequently appear in MiHoYo's special programs that reveal information about future updates coming to the game soon, but are also released to celebrate milestones or to coincide with Genshin Impact events. Most codes also only work for a limited time - so it's a good idea to redeem them as soon as possible in case you miss out. Codes can only be redeemed once per account.
