Animal Crossing: New Horizons' October direct presentation did mention that the incoming massive update would introduce a new point of view, but if you forgot that was the case, I wouldn't blame you.      EA discusses the possibility of FIFA Ultimate Team NFTs during investor call

There are two things the internet loves more than anything else: NFTs and EA microtransactions. In a conference call following today's financial report, investors asked EA the obvious question: what if you put the two together? What if FIFA Ultimate Team cards were also NFTs? To what will surely be the great delight of every observer, EA seems open to the possibility.

Asked about the rise of 'play-to-earn' features in games - or at least the increased discussion about the potential of NFTs in games - EA CEO Andrew Wilson says "I do think it will be an important part of the future of our industry. But it's still early to figure out how that's going to work. I feel good about our position with respect to that."

Alluding to features like FIFA Ultimate Team, Wilson says "as a company, we have been leaders in the creation of digital content that has real collectable value in the embedding of that content as part of live services. What we know about collection over time is that collectability is far more valuable to the collector where the collected item has utility. In the context of the games that we create and the live services that we offer, collectable digital content is going to play a meaningful part in our future. It's still early to tell, but I think we're in a really good position, and you should expect us to think more innovatively and creatively about that on a go-forward basis."

Minecraft will finally let it rain after you sleep

If you regularly sleep in Minecraft - whether because you want to dodge phantoms or you just don't like the darkness - you probably haven't seen rain or a thunderstorm in quite a while. As we head toward the Minecraft 1.18 release date, snapshot betas have been previewing new features for that update, but a bug fix to make it rain again might just be the most exciting new feature of all.

"Sleeping now only resets the weather cycle if it was raining", as the patch notes explain. A report on the official bug tracker explains the issue in a bit more detail. Sleeping is meant to skip the current weather conditions, so you can sleep through a thunderstorm, but up to this point, sleeping has reset the weather cycle entirely. So if you sleep every night, it would be unlikely to ever rain. That'll no longer be an issue once this update goes live.

Snapshot 21W44A also makes some improvements to the new world generation system, allowing caves to be "inserted under existing chunks when upgrading a world to the new world height" - meaning you'll be able to enjoy the deeper caves just fine when you upgrade your old worlds.

The Civilization devs' Marvel game has been delayed just two months after it was revealed

Marvel's Midnight Suns, a superheroic strategy game from Firaxis, the studio behind XCOM and Civilization, was announced just over two months ago ahead of its planned launch in March 2022. However, the game has already been delayed. Marvel's Midnight Suns is now due to launch in the second half of 2022.

"We decided to share that we've made the very tough decision to move our launch window to the second half of 2022," the devs say in a tweet. "We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and this decision did not come lightly. We decided to push our launch because we need more time to make this the best game possible."

The devs say that the extra development time "will be used to add more story, cinematics, and overall polish, and will be essential in helping us make our vision a reality". This announcement comes alongside the latest financial report from Take-Two, the parent company of the game's publisher, 2K.

marvel's Midnight Suns delayed 2022A game developer dropped a development update on Twitter today, so you know what that means. Earlier today, XCOM developer Firaxis Games announced that Marvel's Midnight Suns has been delayed until the "second half of 2022." The action strategy game was only announced back in August, and at that time was scheduled for a launch in March next year. Today's delay pushes it into the June to December window. Jake Solomon and Garth DeAngelis of Firaxis revealed the news via Twitter. In a message, they write that the team has been "thrilled" over fan reactions following the game's announcement. As such, Firaxis has delayed Midnight Suns to take more time to make it "the best game possible." The additional development going toward the game will be used to polish it up, as well as expand on the story and cinematics.   "We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and this decision did not c...

Originally intended as an April Fools joke, fans' interest in the idea eventually led to PlatinumGames announcing that Sol Cresta will indeed come to modern platforms as an official release. This bit of trivia alone may pique interest in the game, plus the collection of energetic trailers that PlatinumGames posted online.      Let's take a meander down the ruined street of memories to a console generation where grey and brown were the predominant colours. The Xbox 360 had been out for a year and was doing well for itself, with several games managing to shift over a million copies. As for me, I was finally looking to move on from my ageing Playstation 2 and join the new generation of consoles with their shiny graphics. As a PS2 owner, the PS3 was naturally tempting - I was familiar with the games already, after all, but the price tag was pretty hefty. The Xbox 360 looked great, but nothing on it stood out to me. And then Epic Games and Microsoft revealed their new game, Gears of War, and suddenly the choice was obvious. It turned out to be a good choice because the Xbox 360 era was glorious.
