Kotaku Saturday, November 20, 2021 1:15 PM On November 19, 2006, Nintendo released the Wii, the GameCube successor. PCGamesN Saturday, November 20, 2021 1:14 PM Motion Twin's excellent hack-and-slash roguelite platformer Dead Cells will be getting free DLC that adds Hollow Knight to the game - complete with the Knight's iconic weapon that allows them to pogo-slash enemies. It's available very soon too - in fact, the update will drop this Monday. It's long been known that the Dead Cells team at Motion Twin are fans of Hollow Knight by Team Cherry. Apart from sneaking in various references to the game, developer Steve Filby previously remarked that the studio may make "a Dead Cells version of Hollow Knight" in the future - meaning a full Metroidvania, although it's notable they used Hollow Knight as an example rather than, say, Metroid or Castlevania. This week Motion Twin has been teasing new heroes from other games coming to Dead Cells' world, called "independent legends" in the lore. The titular character from Hyper Light Drifter by Heart Machine was the first to be revealed, followed by the likes of Guacamelee's Juan. |
PCGamesN Saturday, November 20, 2021 12:26 PM The unannounced next game from Warner Bros Games Montreal, the studio behind Batman: Arkham Origins and the upcoming Gotham Knights, has apparently been in development since at least 2019 - or possibly longer. It will almost certainly be another DC Comics game and is rumoured to be a Superman title. While WB Games Montreal hasn't released a title since Batman: Arkham Knight's Batgirl DLC in 2015, it's had several titles reportedly cancelled such as a Batman Arkham Knight sequel and is now full in development for Gotham Knights for next year - however, the studio apparently does have other projects in production. As spotted by James Sigfield on Twitter, the LinkedIn page for senior artist Megan Berry reveals that - in addition to working on Gotham Knights - she is the art director and co-founder of an unannounced project that's been in the works since at least 2019. It apparently even has a demo, which was presumably used to show off the game to Warner Bros Games. |
PCGamesN Saturday, November 20, 2021 12:21 PM It's been an exciting time for fans of gaming's angry dads. God of War, once a staple of Sony's first-party exclusives, was recently confirmed to debut on PC in January with its excellent 2018 reboot. Sony's showcase in September also showed some of the upcoming sequel, God of War: Ragnarok, and coincided with a tweet from art director Raf Grassetti showing its take on the Norse god Thor. That character art is badass, but sadly, there were some who didn't know it. At risk of oversimplifying - a risk I'm willing to take because the outcry wasn't particularly sophisticated - many seemed to take issue with Thor being, essentially, fat. This is not only mean-spirited but incorrect. In the mythology, Thor is the most physically strong of all the gods and loves his ale so much that, in a drinking contest rigged by those cheating Frost Giants, he drank enough of the literal ocean to create the tides. In another tale from the Poetic Edda, while disguised as the goddess Freyja at a wedding reception, he eats entire animals and drinks whole barrels of mead. I guarantee you that Chris Hemsworth's diet for the MCU is nothing like that. The 'authentic' Thor is basically the legendary prop forward from your local rugby club who once put away twenty pints and headbutted a goat into a coma crossed with champion strongmen like his Icelandic namesake Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. Image-search 'world's strongest man' and you'll find many physiques that'll remind you of the character art below. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Saturday, November 20, 2021 6:34 PM Radiohead's surprising collaboration with Epic Games is out now. The Kid A Mnesia Exhibition is a virtual environment designed to accompany and celebrate Radiohead's classic Kid A and Amnesiac albums. It's an odd project, but it's one that makes sense for a band that are often experimental and technologically progressive. Then they've also made items and costumes available for Rocket League, Fall Guys and Fortnite, turning Radiohead into just another brand to be engaged with in Epic's dull metaversal future. |
