Minecraft shaders: the best Minecraft shader packs in 2021

What are Minecraft shaders? Minecraft has a lot of things in its favour: infinite replayability, massively varied gameplay, and a constantly changing and improving online game. Where Minecraft falters in comparison to other modern games is its graphics. Fortunately, as with everything in Minecraft, the graphical fidelity can be tweaked to incredible effect with the help of Minecraft shaders.

From photorealistic lighting to uncanny motion blur, shaders are capable of bringing your Minecraft experience to life. Every Minecraft shader has its own unique qualities, whether that's injecting some serious style or providing a boost to Minecraft's base visuals without too much lag. So, in order to set you on your way to crystal-clear vistas we've put together a collection of the best Minecraft shaders out there.

Getting a Minecraft shader or shader pack up and running is a simple enough process. Before you get started trying to install a shader pack though, you'll want to download and install either Forge or Optifine. Bear in mind that these aren't always kept up to date, so your options are limited if you want to run shaders on the latest version of Minecraft. Likewise, you need to make sure whichever shaders you're downloading are for the same version of Minecraft you're running.

Best Minecraft texture packs for Java Edition in 2021

Looking for the best Minecraft texture packs for the Java Edition? Minecraft's low-fi charms were predictably the first thing modders took to 'fixing'. The ruddy textures, while distinctive, are an obvious target for an upgrade if you stare at them long enough. While Mojang has been gradually revamping the aesthetic appeal of Minecraft, particularly with the introduction of Minecraft Ray Tracing, if you're chasing a specific look then texture packs are your best bet.

Here, we've included our favourite Minecraft texture packs. There's nothing too crazy in here, as massive visual overhauls tend to be part of larger Minecraft mods that fundamentally change the game, and that's another article entirely.

What we have here is a fantastic selection of texture packs that give Minecraft altered visual styles, from the ultra-realistic to the cartoonish, to far out sci-fi and subtle makeovers. There's even animated textures if you want a drastically different look. Not sure how to download and install one of these new texture packs? Don't worry, we can help you with that, too. Click through to be delighted by the variety and vibrancy of Minecraft texture packs.

New World update fixes issues from the last big update

New World is no stranger to bugs or exploits. Since Amazon Games released the MMO in September, the economy has been temporarily switched off a few times and various nefarious war time tactics - read: glitches - have been employed by players. While Amazon Games has balanced bug fixes with new content thus far, the big Into the Void update has led to unwanted consequences, so we've got another patch to steady the ship.

Amazon Games has fixed an issue that was causing many motes to drop from elemental enemies. The team has also removed elemental motes as rewards from gathering elemental creatures and has reduced the number of other resources you get from them to better align things with their number and how frequently they spawn.

"The original intention with these creatures was to make them challenging and infrequent encounters in the world," the team explains in a blog post. "The way we used them in practice resulted in them becoming less dangerous and more frequent, which caused an imbalance with the amount of resources they provided, compared to the primary sources such as elemental plants and stones."

Razer warns that gaming laptops are next to suffer price hikes, following GPUs

Shortages and price hikes are an unwelcome, yet familiar sight in the hardware space over the past two years, with the global pandemic causing a rise in demand that stock just can't keep up with. While graphics cards are usually at the short end of the stick, seeing prices more than double their MSRP, there's no end in sight as Razer warns that other hardware will soon fall victim to similar price increases.

After a lengthy product review of Razer's next-generation gaming laptops, CEO Min-Liang Tan notes the "significant increases in component costs" that will boil over into next year. This will inevitably lead to future gaming laptops costing you a pretty penny if you fancy gaming on-the-go, and it won't just be limited to the Razer Blade lineup, either.

Instead, he notes that "next-gen gaming laptops across the board" will be at the hands of inflation. Although he doesn't mention other brands, we  could see Asus, Acer, Gigabyte Aorus, MSI, Alienware, and other notebook competitors also at the mercy of the market.

This patch it's an emerald-hued range of Debonair skins for champions Brand, Draven, LeBlanc, Leona, Malzahar, Master Yi, and Zed, which brings them into the murky depths of the mobster-run Valoran City, as part of the Crime City Nightmare alternate universe. One of the most impressive mods going is the Resident Evil 4 HD Project, a full retexture and visual polish of Capcom's horror shooter, and it's finally nearing fruition. The developers have announced plans to release version 1.0 on the 2nd of February, 2022. The care and attention to detail of this mod is stunning, looking so much nicer than both Capcom's official makeover and the recent Resident Evil 4 VR, and I can hardly wait to play RE4 again with it.
