Every Tuesday, the Halo Infinite store refreshes with a new stock of items and armor to help your Spartan stand out in the battlefield. For the most part, it's the sort of borderline bro-y stuff you'd expect: ammo belts, additional visor colors, decals, what have you. More recently, the game's been selling something…

New World's Water Mark scaling changes won't affect items you craft

New World developer Amazon Games recently revealed it would be "completely revamping" the MMORPG's High Water Mark system to improve how it functions and enhance the endgame experience for players. This rework will introduce an 'Expertise and Gypsum' system as a replacement for HWM, which will continue to govern the highest drops you can get per slot, but also determine gear effectiveness and add control over gear progression. Now, following a lot of fan feedback on this, Amazon has confirmed a few points that have prompted some rejoicing in Aeternum. Well, Reddit.

"In early 2022, when we start reducing the effectiveness of gear to your Expertise level, we will exempt the following items," New World dev Zin_Ramu explains in a forum post, listing "any item you craft, any item you earn from a quest, [and] any item you purchase from the faction shop" as the exemptions.

"When these changes are implemented, gear score scaling will only apply to items sold or traded after that patch," the dev goes on to explain. "So any items obtained prior to this patch will not be impacted or reduced in any way. When we thought about it more, reducing power for existing players is just unacceptable and something we will not do. We initially thought it being only temporary and giving a new path with to gain back that power with Gypsum would be acceptable, but it is now clear we were wrong."

How using a VPN can enhance every aspect of your gaming experience

Using a VPN for gaming makes more and more sense as technology develops. People are increasingly playing games online - whether with friends or strangers, making transactions in-game, or competing at progressively professional levels. All of this requires the online gaming experience to not only be as fun as possible, but also to promise safety, security, and responsiveness.

Using a VPN while you play can enhance almost every aspect of your gaming experience, whether online or off. We've compiled this quick summary of all the benefits, and how they work to create an improved overall user experience.

So, first of all, what is a VPN? VPNs are Virtual Private Networks that are created by linking a number of computers together to form a 'bubble'. All the data that travels inside this network is encrypted, meaning confidentiality and integrity are guaranteed. As such, VPNs can be used to anonymise your online data, keep you safe, and speed up your connection times to certain servers which may be far away - especially if you're using a service like PrivadoVPN, which has servers across the world.

Warframe's New War update was shaped by pandemic trauma

The last several years have seen space-action MMO Warframe grow in ways that have frequently been astonishing. Since 2017, Canadian developer Digital Extremes has expanded Warframe with huge open-world zones, added ship-to-ship space combat with Railjacks, and even created zombified mechs for players to pilot into battle. The New War expansion promises to tie all of this together in the largest narrative update so far, setting Warframe up for a new era - and it's been heavily shaped by almost two years of pandemic lockdowns and isolation.

Rebecca Ford is one of the most recognisable faces of Warframe. Ford is the director of community and live operations at Digital Extremes, and she hosts the studio's regular developer streams, keeping the community updated on what's on the way for Warframe. In-game, however, she's the ever-present voice of the Lotus, the player's mysterious guide. Ford has now worked on Warframe for nine years, and says the New War is the proudest she's ever been of something the studio has made.

"I find myself looking at the depth of this quest, emotionally, creatively, collaboratively," Ford tells us. "The team has never been bigger, the team has never been through more hardships, in terms of COVID-19 and working from home, and yet somehow, throughout it all, the New War has come together. And it's taken so much inspiration from the team itself, so for me to look at it in its current state and see what we're doing, I am just so proud."

Crusader Kings 3 console commands and cheats

So, you want some CK3 console commands and cheats? Crusader Kings III is a grand strategy game of great complexity, and planning. You could spend hours establishing your realm, raising your armies, and increasing your income - or alternatively, when nobody's looking, you could give yourself a little boost to prestige, perform a sneaky stabbing on someone who's annoying you, or simply conjure up a whopping great army from nowhere.

If you don't feel like playing by the book and want to have a go at scribbling all over it instead, there are a wealth of console commands available to you that can set pretty much every modifier in the game to your chosen value. With these cheat codes you're free to nudge the stats in your favour, or use them as tools to customise your experience and play out whatever scenarios you have in mind.

Unlike previous Paradox strategy games, in order to access these 'cheats', you have to launch the game in debug mode. This will disable achievements, but it will also allow you to access the command console like you can in other games. We've put together this guide to walk you through the process.

Gigabyte has 16 custom Nvidia RTX 3080 12GB and RTX 3070 Ti GPUs on the cards

Nvidia's revamped RTX 2060 12GB refresh has officially released, but insufficient stock levels have caused retailers to not even bother listing it as out of stock. While rumours suggest a refreshed RTX 3000 series lineup and brand new RTX 4000 GPUs are in the works for 2022, Nvidia has yet to reveal its graphics card plans. Thankfully, an EEC listing by Gigabyte has confirmed Nvidia's plans for a 16GB RTX 3070 Ti and 12GB RTX 3080, and numerous custom iterations could be coming next year.

According to the filing, Gigabyte RTX refresh plans include six RTX 3070 Ti 16GB designs and ten versions of the RTX 3080 12GB. The manufacturer's release schedule suggests that an RTX 3080 12GB Aorus Xtreme and mini-ITX model will be available, while the RTX 3070 Ti is limited to Eagle, Vision, Gaming, and Aorus Master custom configurations.

Nvidia's upcoming RTX 3000 refresh isn't the only product on the horizon from Gigabyte, as the EEC listing also includes three custom AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT GPUs, featuring 4GB VRAM and a full Navi 24 chipset. Naturally, this is great news for red team fans looking for a cheap gaming PC upgrade, as word of custom configurations adds clout to the card's rumoured 2022 release date.

Anno 1800 Steam – is Anno 1800 on Steam?

So, you want to know about Anno 1800 Steam? Don't we all! While the popular city-building game was available on Valve's platform for pre-order, Ubisoft signed an exclusivity agreement with Epic Games in 2019. This means you can only purchase Anno 1800 via Ubisoft directly, or via the Epic Games Store.

There's still some important clarifications to go over, however. The deal with Epic was signed after Anno 1800 had been made available on Steam to pre-order. As such Ubisoft kept pre-orders open on Steam right up until April 16, 2019. After that, the game was removed from sale. However anyone who did pre-order is able to play the management game using Steam without any issues. There's an official FAQ from the time of the exclusivity announcement you can consult if you want all the particulars.

In the years since release, the Steam SKU has also received all of the same updates and DLC opportunities as the EGS and Uplay versions. Cross-platform multiplayer works as well, mainly because most Ubisoft games default to using Uplay for multiplayer anyway, regardless of store-front. This basically means the infrastructure and support is all there should Ubisoft want to start selling Anno 1800 on Steam again.

Halo Infinite release time – here's when the campaign unlocks

While we've had Halo Infinite's multiplayer to keep us busy for close to one month, it will soon be time to play the campaign. While we know that the Halo Infinite release date is today (December 8), some of those who have taken the day off will likely wonder what the Halo Infinite campaign unlock time is. Thankfully, 343 Industries has provided the answer, which you can find below.

While you still have some time to wait, the Halo Infinite campaign reviews have started coming in, and it's all looking quite rosy so far. Some outlets have given it a perfect score, whereas others have given out the equivalent of an eight-out-of-ten score. Us? We landed on an eight ourselves, with Elliot Gardener calling it "a return to form for one of gaming's greatest heroes" in his Halo Infinite review.

It's also worth bearing in mind that you'll only be getting access to the single-player version of the campaign. 343 Industries has previously confirmed that a co-op option will come along in Season 2, which should be launching in May.

SWTOR's Legacy of the Sith update has been delayed

BioWare is delaying Star Wars: The Old Republic's Legacy of the Sith update to February 15, 2022. Project director Keith Kanneng reveals in a blog post on the MMORPG's site that it has become clear during development that the team needs more time to deliver a good experience.

"Like many of you reading this, I personally cannot wait for the launch of our next expansion," Kanneng says. "I've greatly enjoyed my time exploring the depths of Manaan, testing out new story and ability combinations with Combat Styles, and more during internal playtests. Legacy of the Sith is something the team has been hard at work on for quite a while but as we get ever closer to launch, it is clear that we need a bit more time. We're focusing additional testing on the many areas we have changed throughout the game to deliver the experience we want, and one that you deserve."

It's not all bad news: Kanneng reveals that most of the expansion - outside of story content to avoid spoilers - will be returning to the PTS this week for all subscribers.

League of Legends patch 12.1 notes – Arcane-themed Firelight Ekko, Elderwood skins

The first patch of the League of Legends 2022 season has hit the PBE. League of Legends patch 11.24 has headed to live servers to make its debut on the Rift and, following a bunch of teases from Riot Games on social media, the latest batch of new content has begun trickling onto the testing grounds ready for patch 12.1's arrival in the live game soon. Let's take a look.

First up, we've got yet another champion skin inspired by the MOBA game's tremendously successful new spin-off Netflix show, Arcane. This time, it's The Boy Who Shattered Time in for a themed skin, with Riot having previewed Firelight Ekko on League's Twitter channels ahead of his arrival on the PBE. A good thing, too, given his presence in the show as a member of the Firelights gang - and it seems his new look draws on his hoverboard and mask from the series. We've also got some new Elderwood skins on the way, this time for lucky champs Gnar and Rek'Sai.

As is is very often the case when a patch has only just hit the PBE, we don't have any balance changes to check out just yet. However, we know Riot tends to post an early preview at some point in the days following, with the full round of tweaks hitting the PBE shortly afterwards, so we should have a good idea of which champions, items, or runes are in for adjustments very soon. Keep checking back as we'll include everything you need to know in the notes below.

Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1 release time – here's when Caldera opens up

A new Season One of Call of Duty: Warzone is about to begin, and this time it's a big one. Here's when you'll be able to play on Caldera.

First off, you'll want to know when you can pre-load the update. That begins tonight, December 7, at 9pm PT, which translates to December 8 12am ET / 5am GMT. This is also when Warzone servers will go offline to start the changeover to the new Season 1 and Caldera map.

December 8, players who own Call of Duty: Vanguard will be able to start playing Warzone on Caldera at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm GMT. These players will have exclusive access to the map for 24 hours, although everyone else will still be able to play on the Rebirth Island map for some 'mini' battle royale action.

Fortunately, this shouldn't be the case forever, because 343 Industries say that replayability is "being worked on", though they don't have a date for it just yet. There once was a time when buying a new gaming monitor was all about pushing toward a higher resolution. But priorities have shifted over the years, and while yes, it's nice to play a game at a crisp 1440p or 4K, what's equally important is that your game looks smooth and feels responsive. This is where refresh rates and response times come in, making your games flow better and feel more reactive. This is especially important in fast-paced multiplayer games, where a slick and accurate display can mean this between hitting your target and missing them.
