Gaming monitors could become a complicated mess, thanks to HDMI

The best gaming monitors usually do what they say on the tin, whether they're 4K or designed to handle the latest FPS games at high refresh rates. The same goes for connectivity, as labels like HDMI 2.1 help consumers get the most out of their gaming PC panel pairing. However, it looks like simplified spec sheets could be a thing of the past, as displays can now boast HDMI 2.1 compatibility regardless of whether they fully support the standard.

In a statement provided to TFTCentral, the HDMI Licencing Administrator revealed that HDMI 2.0 is retired and that products should use HDMI 2.1 as a spec sheet framework. The interface org suggests this is due to HDMI 2.1's backwards compatibility, but also states that actually including all of the replacement standards staple features, like FRL signalling and increased bandwidth, is optional.

The decision to class HDMI 2.0 and 2.1 as the same thing is bound to confuse casual consumers and enthusiasts alike, and manufacturers are already using the change to their advantage. Last week, Twitter user Gouki201 spotted a monitor on the Chinese market that claims to be HDMI 2.1 compliant, but lacks the protocol's expected feature set. While Gouki201 suggests the product is "fake", the HDMI admin's clarification on the situation means this practice could be above board in 2022.

Best computer speakers 2021 – let the gaming music play

The best computer speakers aren't intrinsic to every gaming PC setup, especially since the best gaming headsets can give you the edge in FPS games. Of course, injecting your ears with gaming sounds comes with the caveat of being tethered to a desk. And while the best wireless gaming headsets can provide you with a degree of freedom, there's nothing quite like filling your gaming cave with high fidelity audio.

Speakers are commonplace within many of the best gaming monitors and laptops, but convenience usually comes with compromise. While integrated speaks work just fine, they often produce tinny audio and a distinct lack of clarity and definition in comparison to good quality, standalone computer speakers.

Naturally, there are a wide range of specs and price points to consider when it comes to computer speaker sets. Whether you're looking for a cheap set of speakers, the best soundbar, a surround sound extravaganza, or you're looking to upgrade to true audiophile sound quality, we've rounded up the top speakers to sit on the best gaming desk. There are even some with RGB lighting if that's your bag.

League of Legends dev teases an upcoming Rengar ultimate update

With 2022's League of Legends season 12 coming up fast, and League of Legends patch 12.1 already on the PBE for testing, it's a great time to look ahead at what a whole new year of content will bring to Riot Games' flagship MOBA game. While there are no details of the balance changes coming to the Rift next just yet, it seems Riot is planning to roll out some significant changes to assassin champion Rengar at some point soon.

Game designer Kevin 'Captain Gameplay' Huang has shared a tooltip teaser on Twitter that gives us a snapshot of changes headed to Rengar's ultimate ability, Thrill of the Hunt. While it's likely that these proposed updates aren't in their final form - they haven't even hit the PBE for a round of testing yet, after all - they do indicate some key adjustments to how his R works. The new-look ability's passive would let the champ "also leap attack when camouflaged", which could have a potential knock-on effect for his passive ability, Unseen Predator, which is of course tied to Rengar's leaping attack.

On Twitter, game designer Riot Phlox describes the ultimate tweak as a "sweet change that should make chem map not feel bad for Rengar!" and adds that "the other stuff is still in the works dw", so it does seem like this won't be the only change we see to his abilities.

You're also getting heaps of Bruce Lee-related content starting December 14 to celebrate a crossover event with the famed martial artist.      Cities: Skylines DLC – a guide to every major expansion

Let's talk about Cities: Skylines DLC. This is a Paradox game to the core and a really decent city-building game to boot. The vanilla package alone is perfectly playable, but most of the creative freedom and meaningful options are locked behind expansions; if you want to place bus lines, build a university, or construct a single park with a few trees, the vanilla title is perfectly capable. But if you want to design your own Central Park, or build a full transport hub complete with taxis, metros, trains, and even blimps and cable cars, you will need to fork out money.

As the full package can easily surpass a hundred dollars outside Steam sales, the inevitable question of "which expansion should I get?" raises its ugly head. With a varying degree of quality and the inherent personal interest in each separate package, it can be hard to identify which expansions to spend your hard-earned money on.

That's where we come in. We looked at every single Cities: Skylines DLC out there, so you wouldn't have to. We've started this guide with just covering the major expansions that add new mechanics. There are a lot more DLCs that are essentially just cosmetics.

     Halo Infinite multiplayer skins locations

It may surprise you to learn that you can find Halo Infinite multiplayer skins and other cosmetic items in the single-player campaign. You can find them in the open world by capturing FOBs, which ping the skin location on the world map. Once highlighted on your map, it's just a case of finding the Mjolnir Armory cases and opening them up to get the item.

However, not every one of these lockers contains armour coating. They can also have weapon skins, vehicle skins, emblems, nameplates, charms, and stances. Once you've opened a locker, you can equip these items to your character in multiplayer mode. To learn more about doing this, check out our Halo Infinite character customisation guide.

You could just go and open every one of the Mjolnir Armory lockers. However, we've separated all items into their relevant categories should you wish to prioritise the Halo Infinite multiplayer skins or any of the other unlockable items. In addition, some of the lockers are hard to find, so here's a description of their location.

     Halo Infinite skull locations

Want to know where to find the Halo Infinite skulls? As Halo veterans know, skulls have always been a real pain to find in every campaign in the series. However, when you find these skulls, you can use them in the campaign menu to add modifiers, such as doubling the explosion radius.

While you can find a few skulls on the map in the open-world game, there are also specific missions with skulls hidden throughout the campaign. Unfortunately, these skulls are easy to miss, and there's no way to replay missions without starting from the beginning.

Since the Halo Infinite campaign length is reasonably long, you should probably know where to find them the first time around. So here are the Halo Infinite skulls locations, modifiers, and key details you need to know before setting off from the nearest fast travel location.

Here's the League of Legends 2022 patch schedule – all season 12 release dates

If you're a League of Legends fan, you'll know that the MOBA game regularly receives hefty patches full of new champion skins, balance changes, and more. These arrive roughly once every two weeks - usually mid-week - and get a good round of testing on League's public beta environment (PBE) over the fortnight or so leading up to their live debuts.

While they can vary in scale, with some patches ushering in significant new events and content while others focus more on a core set of adjustments to fine tune gameplay balancing, they're always a really important part of the game. As such, it's important for fans - veterans and newbies, alike - to get an idea of when each patch is coming, and what'll be in it when it drops. The good news is, we've got you covered.

Riot Games has now unveiled the League of Legends 2022 patch schedule, which kicks off with League of Legends patch 12.1 on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Below, we've laid out all of the release dates for the League of Legends patches coming up in 2022 for season 12, and when our regular patch notes go up we'll link them below, too, so you've got all you need to know in one place.

Here's what the most expensive Steam Deck case looks like

Valve's handheld gaming console the Steam Deck is almost here, and the team has already begun showing off the various carry cases and boxes the gaming PC will come with. Now it's the turn of the Steam Deck 512GB model - the most expensive version - and the exclusive case customers will be getting for their money.

Despite the release date of the Steam Deck being delayed by two months to February 2022 - and that's just for pre-order customers, let alone anyone trying to buy one now - Valve has already begun sharing looks at the console's packaging. This includes a box featuring a few Portal Easter eggs and the neat carry case it comes with.

Now it's the turn of the most expensive edition of the Steam Deck, the 512GB model - which, as the website notes, features an "exclusive carry case" - which at first glance is similar to the ones that come with the other models. As Valve notes on the reveal page, all Steam Deck cases "are functionally identical" - but the 512GB model features "cosmetic differences".

SWTOR Legacy of the Sith release date and everything we know

Star Wars: The Old Republic is approaching its tenth anniversary, and Bioware has recently released several remastered launch trailers to celebrate the occasion. New and returning players will have plenty of new content to enjoy, as Bioware officially announces the release date for the upcoming Legacy of the Sith expansion - the first new SWTOR expansion since 2019's Onslaught.

In a reveal livestream, Bioware unveiled more details about the next chapter of the SWTOR storyline. Legacy of the Sith takes players back to the ocean planet of Manaan, home of the Selkath species, and the only source of kolto - a powerful healing fluid.

The Legacy of the Sith update also includes a new flashpoint, new characters, and increases the level cap to 80. If you don't have a high level character to play through the expansion with, you can purchase a token that will take you to the start of the previous expansion, Onslaught. The update also splits the traditional class system into 'origin stories' and 'combat styles', introducing more flexibility for players to customise their playstyle. Here's everything you need to know about Legacy of the Sith.

While the Pacific map in Call Of Duty: Warzone ushered in a new WW2 era of beachside battle royale, it also added weapon bloom. Swings and roundabouts, or in this case, new islands and a frustrating feature that meant some of your shots wouldn't hit their target. Thankfully Raven Software realised it wasn't the most popular addition to the game and have begun the process of patching it out entirely. But it'll take time to fully remove.
