Forza Horizon 5 pre-loads are live, but you may need to make some room

You've got the green light to start pre-loading Forza Horizon 5, Playground Games' open-world game set in the jungles, deserts, and beaches of Mexico. You may want to double check to make sure you've got the space for it, though - the developers have updated the system requirements, and while the required hard drive space has gone down a bit, you'll still need more than 100GB of storage space to hold Forza Horizon 5.

In terms of other hardware, Forza Horizon 5 is pretty gentle - the recommended GPU is an Nvidia GTX 1070 or an AMD RX 590, neither of which are cutting-edge cards these days. But for both the Microsoft Store and Steam versions of Forza Horizon 5, you'll need a 103GB of free hard drive space, ideally on an SSD if possible.

Starting today, October 21, you can pre-load Forza Horizon 5 in its entirety via either Steam, the Microsoft Store, or the Xbox app for PC if you'll be playing it on Game Pass for PC. That way, you'll be ready to hit the tarmac (and every other conceivable surface material) hard when the Forza Horizon 5 release date arrives November 5.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands has classes like Brr-Zerkers and Stabbomancers

Tiny Tina's Wonderland, which we first saw revealed at the Summer Games Fest earlier this year, will have a customisable character class system and an actual Butt Stallion, apparently. Developer Gearbox has shared loads of new details about the Borderlands spinoff game, including information about classes, environments, and combat mechanics in the upcoming PC game.

Gearbox says you'll be able to "mix and match six unique character skill trees" when designing your Wonderlands character, and those trees include interesting spins on existing RPG game standbys. The Stabbomancer, for instance, is a kind of magic-using assassin class, using sorcery to summon whirling blades or to vanish from sight.

Brr-Zerkers are close-in, brawny melee fighters who "harness the bitter cold of icy winters" in the frozen mountains. Gearbox's latest developer diary explains that each character will have a loadout of spells and guns, plus a dedicated melee weapon equipped at all times. It's meant to be mixed in with your spell and ranged weapon attacks, rather than relied on for primary damage output, Gearbox explains. However, it's handy in a pinch to "give you a bit of breathing room."

Razer aims for Corsair's crown with new AIO coolers, case fans, and PSUs

Razer is perhaps best known for its peripherals like the Kraken gaming headsets, but after testing the waters with its Tomahawk case, it's ready to fully dive in and give Corsair a run for its money with a range of PC components. With AIO coolers, case fans, fan controllers, and power supply units announced at RazerCon 2021, you'll be able to almost fully dress your gaming PC from head to toe with Razer's snakehead logo.

It's been a long time coming for a company the size of Razer, which tells us it didn't want to rush into product launches half-heartedly. Instead, it strives to achieve "almost Apple-level quality," with plug-and-play compatibility regardless of your rig and simplified Chroma RGB lighting so your entire system is synchronised. Yes, this even means you'll be able to control your PC's lighting with voice commands, as Chroma supports Amazon Alexa.

Better yet, Razer says this is only the beginning of an expansive portfolio, so we can expect even more PC parts on the horizon. Your guess is as good as ours, but it's still missing gaming RAM, gaming motherboards, GPUs, and if it's feeling really gutsy, gaming CPUs.

Doom Eternal's big, free 6.66 update lands in five days

It's time for Doom Eternal to go 6.66. There's no marker more appropriate for Doom Eternal's next free update, as this might just be the biggest one yet, bringing features like Horde mode, new Master Levels, and a rework for Battle mode. The devs have provided a new teaser trailer for the update, and have confirmed that it's launching next week.

The Doom Eternal 6.66 release date is officially set for October 26 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Stadia. As previously announced, the update will include improved matchmaking in Battle mode which takes win streaks into account, and a new arena called Stronghold. The two new Master Levels are called World Spear and Mars Club.

Horde mode is the big addition, however. A replacement for the cancelled multiplayer Invasion mode, this is a wave-based score challenge that'll have you slowly unlocking more content and challenges as you go. There's a tiny bit of gameplay from the mode in the new teaser, but the devs promise a more extensive look at the mode in a Twitch stream tonight at 4:30pm PDT / 7:30pm EDT / 12:30am BST.

Nvidia GeForce Now gives cloud gaming the power of an RTX 3080 gaming PC

Nvidia proved that just about anyone can run the Crysis Remastered Trilogy no matter whether they're using a PC, Mac, or smartphone thanks to cloud gaming, but it's not resting on its laurels. As of today, you'll notice a brand new top-tier membership that lets you exclusively stream from Nvidia's new supercomputer, which packs more than 1,000 RTX 3080 graphics cards. At 35 shader teraflops apiece, that's almost three times the performance of the Xbox Series X and a total of 39 petaflops to tap into.

While the GPU takes centre stage here, Nvidia pairs its flagship RTX cards with AMD Threadripper Pro gaming CPUs to make it a computational powerhouse. Naturally, this translates to a whole heap of performance improvements for RTX 3080 GeForce Now subscribers.

For reference, the Priority membership lets you play games at 1080p resolution and 60fps for six-hour stints. The new subscription bumps this up to 1440p at 120fps on gaming PCs and iMacs, 1600p at 120fps on Macbooks, and even 4K at 60fps with high-dynamic range (HDR) on Nvidia Shield TV. You might see the latter appear on other devices later down the line, but it will only be on Nvidia's set top box at launch. You'll even get to game for eight hours per session, although we strongly recommend taking regular breaks anyway.

Epic's next free game once turned down exclusivity and was denied a store spot

By all accounts, Darq is a solid, spooky puzzle-platformer, with broadly positive reviews from both critics and Steam users. But it also got an extra bit of fame shortly before launch in 2019, when developer Wlad Marhulets of Unfold Games revealed that he had turned down an Epic exclusivity deal, after which Epic would not put the game on its store. Now, two years later, Darq is coming to the Epic Games Store, free for a limited time.

You'll be able to grab Darq: The Complete Edition from the usual Epic Games Store promotion page on Thursday, October 28 at 8am PDT / 11am EDT / 4pm BST. It'll be there for one full week, at which point it'll be replaced by another freebie. As always, you'll 'purchase' the game at a price of zero dollars, and it'll remain in your library just like any game you might pay money for.

So what happened with that whole Epic exclusivity thing? The game's console publisher helped smooth things out. "It so happens that the CEO of Feardemic, Scott Millard, has a good relationship with the EGS," as Marhulets explains in a Medium post. "At some point, Scott asked me: 'Hey, do you want to have a chat with people at the EGS?' I thought it would be great to connect and have a proper phone call since we hadn't got a chance to do that previously."

The best Crusader Kings 3 mods

Crusader Kings 3 mods are flying as the game nears the one year mark since release. At the time of writing there's several thousand mods available via Steam Workshop alone. Turns out people are not only keen to play Crusader Kings 3, they're keen to mod it to high-hell and back again as well.

If you're on the fence about buying it, we found it to be a great entry point into the complex world of grand strategy games, although make sure you read our Crusader Kings 3 review, just to be sure.

It's still early into the life cycle of CK3, but it's clear that the modding community is already in full flow. Some have already begun work on the ambitious project of making some of the popular mods from CK2 available in CK3. With all this buzz surrounding the mod scene, we figured we might as take a brief look at what's already on offer and let you know what the most promising projects are right now. Expect this list to grow and change over time as the mod scene matures.

All Battlefield 2042 Specialists – traits, classes, and gadgets

Want to know more about specialists in Battlefield 2042? The next generation of Battlefield is here, introducing brand new mechanics, such as the ability to customise your weapon in real time. Battlefield 2042 also features a dynamic weather system to alter the flow of combat, forcing players to adapt to dangerous environmental hazards on foot and in vehicles. The size of the maps has also changed to accommodate up to 128 players, making this the largest Battlefield game yet.

One of the biggest changes to the series is the introduction of specialists, which adds more flexibility to the class system. In previous games, many players would pick a class because certain weapons were locked to that class, meaning they weren't making the most of their gadgets. The specialists system allows you to have whatever loadout you want, and your chosen specialist's gadget and trait go on top of that loadout.

We finally have information on the ten specialists coming to Battlefield 2042 at launch. Picking the right specialist boils down to which gadget and trait you are drawn to - if you like to take down multiple enemies at once, the assault specialists may be for you. Prefer to help your team instead? Choose a support specialist instead.

Master Chief is coming to gaming PCs as a Halo Infinite AMD graphics card

Halo Infinite's release is just around the corner, and unlike Master Chief's previous outing, the shooter is making its way to Steam and Xbox Game Pass. However, everyone's favourite Spartan is actually coming to gaming PCs in more ways than one, as AMD and 343 Industries have teamed up to create a limited edition graphics card that's clad like the shooter's stoic soldier.

The GPU in question just so happens to be an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT, and it features an army green colour scheme, a blue Cortana light emblem, and the Chief's '117' Spartan callsign boldly printed on the backplate. Naturally, the innards of this unique RX 6900 XT are the same as the original product's, so while it's still AMD's fastest graphics card, it won't feature any souped-up Spartan enhancements.

Just like most GPUs in 2021, you won't be able to simply purchase this collaborative card. Instead, AMD says there be "multiple opportunities over the coming weeks" for fans to get their hands on the unique PC component, which suggests some sort of incoming competition or event.

Apex Legends heads to the beach next season

Respawn Entertainment has given us another glimpse at what's heading Apex Legends' way next season. Earlier in the week, we were introduced to the new Legend Ash, but now we've got an idea of the map.

Apex Legends' Escape launch trailer starts with a slew of characters jetting across the ocean on boats as they head for some fun in the sun. Naturally, the earlier, more jovial shots of the trailer focus on Mirage as he tries to convince Bangalore that taking some time for a vacation is a good thing. After that, we get some fun takes of Gibraltar fishing and Rampart chasing some chickens over Pathfinder as he tans his, uh, bolts. We also get a luscious shot of Fuse exiting the ocean in a swimsuit.

Naturally, though, everything goes a bit wrong. Giant spiders, fliers, and other predators roam the tropical island, suggesting they might feature prominently next season. We also see more of Ash's toolkit, as she can track foes and open rifts to teleport through. It's hard to say if she'll be a tracker or damage character, but the teases of her kit leave us curious to find out more.

The best New World great axe build for PvP and PvE

Want to know what the best New World great axe builds are for PvP and PvE? We've had time to test several different builds since the new MMO game launched, and we've concluded that outside of the magic weapons, one of the best New World weapons is the great axe. It may be slower to use than most other melee weapons, but it's a fantastic option for those wanting to chop away at foes in a DPS role.

To build an excellent loadout for New World, you need to spend time killing enemies to level up weapons, choose which skills to equip, and allocate attribute points. Therefore, you should assign your character's attribute points carefully to maximise the impact of both weapons in your build. While it takes more skill to use a great axe in combat than other weapons, the effort is most certainly worth it.

If you're running a powerful axe build, particularly the PvE build in this guide, you'll benefit from tackling dungeons and bosses alongside someone who is using the best New World tank build, using the sword and shield. We also have DPS build configurations for the best New World fire staff build. This guide will go over both the best great axe PvP build and the best great axe PvE build, but if you'd rather spec into a faster melee-focused DPS build, try out the best New World hatchet build or best New World rapier build instead.

Battlefield 2042 launches with a ton of features that were missing from the beta

The Battlefield 2042 beta was popular, but rough around the edges. The devs at DICE have published a breakdown of what they learned from the beta, and confirmed that the build of the game that was turned into the beta was a few months out of date. The devs have also shared some information on launch features that were either missing from the beta outright, or will be improved for launch. However, a few features, like in-game voice chat, won't make it until after release day.

The commo rose, for example, will return from previous Battlefield games, allowing you to communicate through a radial menu of pre-made commands quickly. The compass that popped up when you're aiming down sights now appears all the time. The ping system has been updated to work more responsively, too.

Support players will be better rewarded in the final game, including score bonuses for transport assists, spawn support, resupply, and heal support. Healing effects will start faster, revives will work more quickly, and Maria Falck's syrette pistol will now magnetise toward friendly targets and make it clearer when you're successfully healing a friend.

Hearts of Iron 4 DLC No Step Back releases next month

We first heard about the Soviet-themed No Step Back Hearts of Iron 4 expansion back in May during PDXCon remixed. Given that the Man the Guns expansion almost went an entire year between announcement and release, I for one was expecting a similar wait time. But despite the size of the Soviet Union rework (which requires its own design team), despite the overhaul of the supply system, and even all of the modding improvements, Hearts of Iron IV: No Step Back is coming sooner than we could have hoped for.

By the end of November, you'll be able to guide the Soviet Union through any number of paths - the historical one Stalin led it down or various alternate forms of socialist paths. You can even try to restore the Monarchy. At the extreme end, there are 29 new distinct entities the Soviet Union can be broken up into.

It's not just about the Soviet Union though - Poland and the Baltic nations will also get new focus trees. In terms of other features, there will be a new army officer corps mechanic, the new tank designer, as well as premium features on top of free rework to supply. Also, railway guns!

Here's more details on the new aquatic Stellaris DLC

Paradox announced two new grand strategy game expansions earlier in the week – EU4's Origins immersion pack, and the Aquatics species pack for Stellaris. In today's development diary, the Stellaris team has taken a break from its usual look at new patch improvements to talk in-depth a bit more on the new features coming in this Stellaris DLC.

The full list of new features includes 16 new portraits (with a robotic one as well), a new water-themed ship set, two new origins, a new civic, the 'Aquatic' species trait, and, for the first time in a species pack, a new ascension perk. One of the new origins is called 'Here be Dragons', which starts your empire off with a unique symbiotic relationship with an Ether Drake. Essentially, this pseudo-guardian will protect your homeworld, but only if you keep it happy.

Considering origins like the Clone Army one introduced in the last patch for the Humanoid pack, it really seems like the development team is exploring new and creative 'backstories' for empire creation, and I hope we see more of this down the line. The other origin, 'Ocean Paradise', can be combined with the new ascension perk and the species trait to give an ocean-dwelling species a really strong start to the strategy game, as well as scaling benefits as you progress.

The best cooking games on PC in 2021

What are the best cooking games on PC? If you want to relax and create mouth-watering masterpieces, or challenge your friends to some kitchen chaos, the wonderful world of cooking games and restaurant games doesn't disappoint.

You don't have to be a dab hand in the kitchen to work your way around these cooking games. If, like us, your dinner guests smile politely through a plate of charred chicken and accomplishing the perfection of a Gordon Ramsey special seems like a distant dream, then these games are a much more satisfying way to scratch that cooking itch.

The cooking game genre specifically focuses on restaurant management and whipping up recipes has taken a bit of a backseat since the release of Overcooked 2. Many management games and simulation games incorporate cooking as part of the experience, such as farming in Stardew Valley or setting the kitchen alight in the Sims. So, if you're after a more authentic cooking game then look no further as we've collated a list of the best cooking games on PC from time management to puzzlers.

This time two weeks ago I was walking the halls of London's ExCel on my way to host the first RPS Presents panel at EGX 2021, and all the planning and organising I had to do for it rather cut back on my available writing time. We are here now and there's plenty to talk about. 2010 tower defence game Toy Soldiers has two big neat ideas: it looks like a toybox upended onto battlefield dioramas built on bedroom tables; and you can take to the battlefield yourself to control units and vehicles. It's a good'un, and today it relaunched with an 'HD' version. I liked the original enough to buy it on both Xbox 360 and PC, but wasn't interested in getting it again until I heard Toy Soldiers: HD offers more than the usual high-res texture overhaul.

I have a real soft spot for Supermassive Games. Until Dawn was a knowingly schlocky teen slasher horror film made into an interactive adventure game, and it was great for at least two thirds of its runtime. I've also felt the same about their more recent project, The Dark Pictures Anthology, which began with Man Of Medan in 2019. Every time a new instalment comes out I believe it's in with a shot of being well good - although each one has since made me doubt the "knowing" part of my interpretation of Until Dawn. The latest entry, House Of Ashes, comes the closest yet to recapturing the daft thrills of Until Dawn, with a classic survival-horror setup that's half The Descent and half Aliens.

The five playable protagonists you flit between are trapped in an ancient Sumerian temple that leads into an even deeper cavern, and then an even deeperer, ancienter ruin. The turducken of potholing. But instead of delicious stuffing, the surprise in these layers is a race of vampiric monsters whose vision is based on sound, and whose spit is LSD. Your job is to get your goons out alive, and the main problem is that the goons in question are - instead of a busload of teens on a field trip gone wrong - a small team of US marines searching for WMDs in 2003 Iraq. Wakka wakka.

The geth have begun launching seemingly random attacks on human colonies. Rumours are circling that ancient machines will soon emerge from darkspace. There is only one man equipped to deal with these threats: Intergalactic Man Of Mystery, Austin Powers. Someone has made a video editing Mike Myers' 60s spy into Mass Effect and I'm astounded at how well it works. I don't know what else to say. This is Mass Effect in its ultimate form. Please watch it, it's the best minute I've spent all week.

Saints Row Criminal Ventures trailer gangEver since developer Volition teased, and then subsequently revealed, its new Saints Row reboot, the game has received a bit of a mixed reception from fans. Its initial reveal trailer did not go over too well with fans, as it received a massive amount of dislikes on Youtube. This negative reaction died down a bit as Volition put out more trailers and gameplay footage. But many fans nonetheless remain skeptical over the reboot's quality. The recently revealed trailer for the new Saints Row, dubbed "Criminal Ventures," may or may not win certain fans over, but it at least covers an interesting gameplay element in the form of letting players construct their own criminal underworld. Volition's Chief Creative Officer Jim Boone provides narration throughout the trailer, and he gives a basic rundown of how players can shape their criminal underworld. He emphasizes that players have significant control over which businesses they can construct and where they can place...

Fortnite Pve Fortnitemares Cup Tournament CosmeticsEpic Games has announced the first PvE tournament for Fortnite, the Fortnitemares Cup, which begins this weekend on October 23. As mentioned, the tournament won't pit you against fellow players. Instead, you and three allies work together in a Horde Rush style mode to earn points for prizes like in-game cosmetics. The crux of Fortnitemares Cup is that you must survive to earn those prizes. As it is a PvE mode, you're faced against AI-controlled zombies that come at you and your team in waves. You get five matches in order to kill enough zombies while trying not to turn into chow. Earning 1,000 points gets you 1 tournament point. Said points can be then be exchanged for Fortnitemares-themed goodies like a loading screen (for 500 points), or a Ghoul-d Game Emoticon (for 2,000 points). Epic mentions that it can take up to three weeks for said prizes to get doled out to everyone.   Solo Fortnite players might not be too thrilled about the rules, however. The Fortnitemar...

Battlefield 2042 Specialists Grappling Hook Webster MackayThe Battlefield 2042 open beta received mixed opinions from those that tried it. While it did have some positives for sure, many felt as though it had lost sight of what made Battlefield so great — the squad-based combat. Part of the reason for this was the new specialists mechanic in Battlefield 2042, which replaces the traditional class system. Gone are the medic, assault, and recon classes, and instead we've got Maria Falk, Webster Mackay, and Casper. These along with seven other specialists all have unique skills including exclusive gadgets and passive abilities. But the introduction of these came at the cost of squad balance and teamwork. Thankfully, DICE has announced a huge list of changes in a recent developer blog explaining what it is doing to fix this in the final product.   Improved squad play In the final version of Battlefield 2042, specialists will have some extra restrictions to promote teamplay. Most notably, in Hazard Zone, each squad will only be ...
