During the preshow for tonight's Game Awards, indie mega-publisher Annapurna Interactive pulled back the curtain on the next big game in its portfolio. It's a turn-based RPG called Thirsty Suitors, made by the folks behind Falcon Age. There's some sweet-looking skateboarding. And it all smacks of serious Scott Pilgrim

Halo Infinite, out in its entirety this week for Xbox and PC, has officially flooded the tubes. Surely you've heard of friends playing it.      The Expanse: A Telltale Series is on the way

Announced at The Game Awards, the reformed Telltale Games has announced The Expanse: A Telltale Series, based on the TV series. The game will be co-developed by Life is Strange: True Colors studio Deck Nine.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series will be a prequel to the TV series, featuring Camina Drummer as the main character. As Game Informer notes, the project is still in the early stages of production, so it'll likely be some time before we see more. It will be coming to PC and consoles alike. (Here's hoping Wolf Among Us 2 lands sometime before then.)

The Game Awards is an annual extravaganza hosted by veteran presenter and game journalist Geoff Keighley. In theory, it's an award show highlighting the best of the past year's games, but the show generates its biggest excitement with an array of announcements for new games from developers both big and small.

Homeworld 3 reveals first gameplay trailer, and will launch late next year

Homeworld 3 debuted a new trailer during The Game Awards, showing some atmospheric shots and setting up the story, and revealing the space-based RTS game will launch late 2022.

Homeworld 3 first showed up as a crowdfunding campaign on Fig in 2019, although publisher Gearbox set its goal at a rather symbolic $1. The campaign wrapped up having pulled in more than $1 million, however, and headed into pre-production. Since then, we've heard precious little about it.

Developer Blackbird Interactive is finally ready to start talking about Homeworld 3, it seems. Tonight's new trailer shows some establishing shots of the deserts of Kharak and the massive fabricator mothership, with hints at some new ideas like ship combat over the surface of a massive super space station. The environments look impressively detailed, with exploding asteroids, tons of space debris, and of course the intense swarms of interceptor battles against the inky blackness of the void.

The Game Awards start time – here's how to watch TGA 2021

The nominees are in, and it's nearly time to split your attention between the best games of 2021 and the brightest lights of the upcoming release slate - yes, it's once again the season of The Game Awards. Geoff Keighley's annual extravaganza returns this week in a primetime spot for North American viewers, but it might be a bit less convenient if you're watching elsewhere in the world.

The Game Awards show will broadcast on Thursday, December 9. A brief pre-show will begin at 4:30pm PST / 7:30pm EST, with the main show following at 5:00pm PST / 8pm EST. If you're on the other side of the date line, that puts the start time at 12:30am GMT on December 10 for the pre-show, and 1am GMT for the main show.

The show will be broadcast across multiple services, but if you want the highest quality, you'll need the YouTube stream, which will air in 4K. The stream will also be available on Twitch and Twitter.

XCOM 2 is free to play through Sunday, and super cheap

XCOM 2 really has it all when it comes to strategy RPG games, doesn't it? There's a wide variety of missions, a tense apocalyptic story about fighting back against the invasion, boatloads of customisation options, and tough as nails tactical decision making. If you've never taken the plunge, now's your chance: XCOM 2 is free to play through this weekend, and it's deeply discounted if you decide to keep it in your library.

You can play XCOM 2 free, now through December 13, simply by heading over to the Steam page and clicking 'play game.' A sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM 2 starts out with the aliens firmly in control of the Earth, and XCOM itself shattered. It's up to you to rebuild the unit, but you'll need help to recapture your home. To do that, you'll have to raise a global resistance to the alien overlords.

XCOM 2 adds a boatload of cool new features in to the solid mix established by its predecessor, and it's just a starting point itself - there are lots of fantastic XCOM 2 mods to experiment with before you even consider dipping into its transformative DLC, War of the Chosen.

This Minecraft fan's recreation of FFXIV's Kugane is stunning

A Minecraft player has put a blocky spin on Final Fantasy XIV's Kugane city, and it looks pretty darn impressive. I spotted ZombieSpaceApe's build on Reddit while waiting in one of FFXIV Endwalker's hefty queues, so I reached out to ask them a few questions - I mean, I certainly won't be playing Endwalker anytime soon.

ZombieSpaceApe tells me that they were inspired by the presence of Kugane's domineering tower and the challenge of recreating a build big enough to capture the sense of the eastern-influenced city adequately. "There is a certain permanence to Minecraft," they say. "Once you build something, it's on your world forever. As with all great art, like Kugane, it's inspiring, and I selfishly wanted to have it forever. Not that it doesn't exist in FFXIV, but there is certain ownership in knowing that you placed every block."

ZombieSpaceApe tells me that they initially tried to lay the foundation by eye but swiftly ran into trouble. While one particular brick in FFXIV then gave them a sense of the spacing they needed in Minecraft, it wasn't until they stumbled upon another area with ten bricks in a line that they had the "Rosetta Stone for the remainder of the build".

Escape from Tarkov is about to get a new map, a rangefinder, and more

A new patch is inbound for Escape from Tarkov, and the hardcore survival game is getting some fancy new gear to hunt for in its treacherous urban ruins. Not only that, but beta patch 0.12.12 also features an all new map, possibly called Lighthouse or Quiet Coast. Here's what we've seen so far.

The new map takes centre stage in the trailer, and it appears to be set in a resort area, with a lighthouse on an island that's attached to the mainland by a narrow causeway. The map also features a water treatment area, with large cisterns arranged across a large, open field. However, there's an attractive tourist lodge as well, featuring timber-beam construction, a weights room, and a cozy great room overlooking the water.

But lets get down to brass tacks here, and by that I mean hardcore operator gizmos. There's a lot of new kit shown in the trailer below, including perhaps most notably a laser rangefinder. It's a civilian model called the Vortex Ranger 1500 that you can pick up in real life at your local sporting goods store for around $350, but it'll likely be worth a hell of a lot more than that on the mean streets of Tarkov.

DOTA: Dragon's Blood Book 2 hits Netflix in four weeks

The second season of DOTA's animated show Dragon's Blood will be available to stream on January 6, 2022. As spotted by DOTA 2 community figure Wykrhm Reddy, the Netflix page for DOTA: Dragon's Blood Book 2 now has a release date and a swanky new trailer to boot.

The trailer is a moody affair, as you might expect. We start with several shots of glowing purple lotuses fading into the wind while one man tells a woman that she's no longer worshipped and that all that sustains her is a spark of divinity. We then get some shots of the demon marauder Terrorblade looking suitably broody as he hunts for more Eldwurm souls. We also see scenes of conflict and war, which sets us up for a potentially war-heavy season.

If you've been out of the loop, the show is being created by Ashley Miller, who has worked on superhero movies like Thor and X-Men: First Class. We also have Kaiju Boulevard and Studio Mir on production duties, who you might recall is working on the animated Witcher prequel The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla's next patch adds new settings for stealth and difficulty

The latest set of Assassin's Creed open-world games have been adding more and more controls for setting up the experience precisely the way you want, allowing you to independently adjust difficulty for stealth and combat gameplay, for example. Assassin's Creed Valhalla's next patch, which we know will cut down on its massive install size quite a bit, will also add some additional settings so you can further adjust the challenges Eivor encounters in medieval England.

Title Update 1.4.1, which is due out next week, adds new settings for combat, stealth, and exploration, all of which are subheadings found in the gameplay tab in the settings menu. For combat, Ubisoft has added new settings that allow you to adjust the parry timing window (you can choose from 400, 650, or 800 milliseconds), a similar setting for the brush with death timing window (300, 400, or 600 ms), and the brush with death duration (1, 1.5, 2, or 2.5 seconds).

In stealth, you're given the option to toggle guaranteed assassination on or off, and there are new settings for how long you have to escape detection, how long that lasts while you're aiming, the length of time enemies will search for you, and the maximum number of enemies that will actively search for you (either two or three).

Epic has finally freed us – the Epic Games Store shopping cart is here

Since its launch alongside The Game Awards in 2018, the Epic Games Store has not had a shopping cart. Every single bit of news about the store is always met with comments about the store's lack of a cart, and yes, it's a bit absurd that the functionality has been missing all this time. But finally, we're free. The shopping cart is here.

Yes, Epic has deployed the cart at the store's third anniversary. You can head over to the Epic Games Store to check it out for yourself. You can click 'add to cart', and games will be added to the cart. You can then purchase those games in a single transaction. You can even add DLC to the cart. And get this - you'll be shown the total cost of the transaction in your local currency before clicking purchase. Wow! What new technology will digital store owners think of next?

I still don't entirely understand why it took this long to get a shopping cart or why it became the symbol of annoyance about the Epic Store, but hey, we're finally done.

You'll soon be able to control Windows 11 better with your voice

Windows 11 isn't short of issues, with memory leaks, shaky AMD Ryzen CPU compatibility, and slower NVMe SSD speeds than Windows 10, but we're one step closer to ditching your gaming mouse and keyboard entirely. Microsoft is currently testing Windows 11 Insider Preview 22518, which introduces its new voice access feature, allowing you to control your PC without lifting a finger.

Aimed at improving accessibility, voice access leverages Microsoft's machine learning and speech recognition technology. letting you open and switch between apps, browse the web, and even read and dictate your emails with the flick of your tongue. Better yet, it's on-device, so you'll be able to use the feature offline by saying 'voice access wake up'. The phrases aren't catchy, but this helps prevent mistakes when navigating the operating system. And if items don't have a name you can interact with, Windows 11 also includes a number overlay to make it easier.

Without testing it for ourselves, it's difficult to gauge how well it fares with regional or international accents - that's those outside of the US - but voice access currently only supports English US settings. Even if you're using English UK, you might need to switch over, otherwise it's possible the feature won't work as intended.

How to fix the Halo Infinite Xbox Gaming Services bug on PC

It may be hard to believe, but Halo Infinite marks the first time a game in the mainline series has launched simultaneously on both gaming PCs and Xbox consoles. Unfortunately, players attempting to launch the game via the Xbox app are finding themselves facing off against the Xbox Gaming Services page instead of The Banished.

Worry not – Reddit user IEatBlackBeans has identified a potential fix that should get you up and running in no time.  We've also reached out to Microsoft, asking for an estimation on when this bug should be ironed out. While this particular issue doesn't affect the Steam version of the game, reports indicate that players are unable to bring their campaign saves with them to their Xbox consoles.

Once you get in-game, you might also find there are problems with your frame rate. To make your adventure on Zeta Halo much smoother, you can easily boost fps once you know how to disable Halo Infinite high-res textures.

Intel's Alder Lake i3 CPU could pack a surprising budget gaming PC punch

Building the best gaming PC possible is an expensive endeavour, with graphics card prices reaching double their MSRP and new DDR5 RAM costs that are sure to make your credit score shiver. Yet, if you're holding out for a budget gaming hero, there may still be hope, as Intel's unannounced Alder Lake i3 chips could trump AMD's Zen 3 Ryzen CPUs.

According to benchmarks shared by Bilibili user Enthusiastic Citizen, Intel's Core i3-12300 boasts a single thread CPU-Z score of 702, and the i3-12100 wields a similar score of 687.5. Both chips also spent some time in Cinebench, resulting in respective scores of 665 and 649. By comparison, AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X musters a score of 652.8, meaning it could fail to keep up with the blue team's new budget duo.

It's important to note that Intel's Alder Lake i3 is still entry-level, which means both CPUs don't come out swinging in terms of multi-thread performance. However, when you consider both chips potential $100 and $150 price tags, it's easy to see why they could be more appealing than AMD's current lineup.

To mitigate the stark contrast in visual fidelity between older and newer maps, SCS has periodically been giving veteran areas much needed facelifts. The latest in this round of revamps is the city of Lyon, France. New landmarks have been added, along with new routes and a reworked city layout. Even the vegetation models have been swapped out for newer ones, along with other texture touchups.   The Iberia expansion, which is the latest map DLC for ETS2, also got an update.      Halo Infinite Campaign Hidden Arcade Cabinet 2Halo Infinite is a large game in terms of scale. The map is far more expansive than prior games in the series, with many places to hide secret things. Developer 343 Industries has taken advantage of the bigger play area by squirreling away not only hidden Skulls, but many Easter eggs. Some, like our boy Craig, have already been found. There are no doubt plenty more. And today, we bring you one. Early on in the Halo Infinite campaign, you have a chance to discover a secret hidden arcade cabinet — here's how to find it. To find the hidden arcade cabinet in the Halo Infinite campaign, you need to make enough progress to get you onto the ring itself. Instead, leave the dropship platform and head back toward the crashed ship.   Don't head to the ship, but stay on its left side. At the south e...

halo infinite craig easter egg campaignOh, my poor sweet boy Craig. There are barely any Halo fans around who don't know about the unfortunate Brute who got too close and personal to the Master Chief. It was during the first campaign trailer for the game. Around the four-minute mark, a charging Brute gets elbow-checked by the Chief. We didn't know it then, but it was the birth of the first Halo Infinite meme. Craig the Brute was beloved by fans, and hated by 343 Industries. He represented what was wrong with the game at the time, before its eventual delay. However, 343 knows how to take a joke, and put Craig in the Halo Infinite campaign as an Easter egg. Here's how to find him. The Craig Easter egg can be discovered on The Tower, part of an early campaign mission in Halo Infinite. There are two ways to reach the top of the building. The first is using the Grappleshot, but it only works this way if you've upgraded its recharge speed (that's the second upgrade, if you're wondering). You...
