This open-source Stardew Valley mod manager makes modding way easier

After being out for six years, Stardew Valley is already a haven for many outstanding mods, but it can be fiddly to keep them all organised - especially if you have many going at once. Stardrop is a new open-source Stardew Valley mod manager that aims to "simplify" the process - and it's out now.

While major content updates for ConcernedApe's Stardew Valley are getting few and far between, players can always turn to the many hundreds of mods available for the game to refresh the experience - like a better inventory management experience, a missing persons mystery, and even a version of ConcernedApe's next game Haunted Chocolatier.

Once you start having a few mods on the go with any game things can start getting a bit messy, so it's always recommended to use a mod manager to keep things organised wherever possible. Now there's an "open-source, cross-platform" manager for Stardew Valley mods too, called Stardrop - and better yet, it's now available to download from NexusMods.

Forspoken could have had Mistborn author Brandon Sanderson as its writer

It seems possible that bestselling fantasy author Brandon Sanderson - creator of the Mistborn series and writer of the later Wheel of Time novels - may have been asked to write the lore of Square Enix's upcoming fantasy action-RPG Forspoken, but was forced to turn it down because he's busy with another unannounced game.

Last year, Square Enix revealed Forspoken, an action-adventure game set in the fantasy world of Athia. It's an original IP, but fans have previously noted some similarities between Forspoken and the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson - with some even believing this is was the game Sanderson had teased he was providing the lore for.

Apparently this is not the case, as in a recent Q&A session Sanderson confirms that the game he worked on hasn't been announced yet - but did add that Square Enix apparently previously approached him to work on a new "fantasy IP" that had been recently revealed, and which had fans writing to him saying that "this feels kind of like Mistborn".

Company of Heroes 3's Total War-like map has been improved by fan feedback

SEGA and Relic's upcoming RTS Company of Heroes 3 is introducing a grand strategy-lite campaign map similar to the Total War series, and the team is improving it "based on feedback" from the game's various Alphas - with changes to unit detachments and vehicle emplacements highlighted in a recent blog post.

The latest in the respected World War Two strategy game series, Company of Heroes 3 still doesn't have a firm release date beyond "2022" but has run several playable Alphas for fans to try out and leave feedback on. According to developer Relic in a recent post, the team has started implementing "big changes to address feedback" - and goes into detail on one area that's already been updated.

Previously, unit detachments and vehicle emplacements acted independently on the campaign map and could make their own actions. Now, Relic has changed this so up to three detachments can be placed and "permanently embedded in your companies" - and can be used to construct powerful defensive emplacements.

Command & Conquer: Renegade remake's Tiberian Sun expansion is aiming for Summer

Renegade X: Firestorm - the long in-development Tiberian Sun expansion for the free fan-built remake of Command & Conquer: Renegade - is aiming for a Summer 2022 release date, two years after the project was officially revealed.

If you didn't know, Command & Conquer: Renegade was an ambitious first and third-person shooter spin-off from the iconic RTS series that released in 2002. It was clunky and had a poor single-player campaign, but a committed fanbase grew around the unique multiplayer.

An entirely free and fan-made Unreal engine remake of the game, Renegade X released in 2014 in open beta and has been added to ever since. In June 2020, indie developer Totem Arts announced Renegade X: Firestorm - an expansion based around the events of the alien invasion in Command & Conquer 3. Back in December, Totem Arts promised that "there are great things coming your way in 2022" - and it seems they could have been referring to Firestorm, since the developer has revealed on Discord that the expansion "is expected to release in Q2 2022".

Here's how Lost Ark is actually going to play

Amazon's next MMO after New World is Lost Ark, and is out next month. Now there's a new gameplay introduction trailer, which quickly showcases just how different the latest MMO on PC is from others - as well as showing new players exactly what Lost Ark's gameplay will be like.

While Lost Ark came to territories such as Korea years ago, it was only snapped up by Amazon for a US and European release last year - presumably in the wake of the positive early reactions to New World. However, it may not be what most MMO fans are expecting, as it leans more into Diablo-like action.

While it did get a closed playable beta late last year, undoubtedly there are still many people - perhaps intrigued by how popular it already is on Steam - who don't know what Lost Ark is all about. Fortunately, a new "gameplay introduction" trailer has been released that gives the most concise look yet about just how this Lost Ark thing is actually going to play.
