Bungie dropped a bombshell in today's blog post, and it had nothing to do with being bought by Sony. Star Citizen, a game that has been in development for over a decade and has raised over $400 million in funding, is nowhere near being done. Not even close. While we're getting six more weeks of winter IRL, Halo Infinite's most frigid cold snap is coming to an end.      American Truck Simulator's missing city means better roads

American Truck Simulator is getting a new California, and as the developers have previously explained, that means an end to San Rafael. There'll be a new city in its place once the next piece of the California rework goes live, which is ultimately going to lead to a more realistic, better-playing road network in the area. Today, the devs have provided a look at that new road layout.

"A major focus of this part of the rework is going back to areas where roads may have not been geographically correct or represent the current standards that we are now able to achieve," the devs say in today's blog. "With more tools to create more complex and realistic road networks based on real-life references, we can bring more true-to-life assets to the road. This includes new junctions, crossroads, bridges, agriculture stations, rest areas, and more. Between major economy cities, drivers will now also come across settlements, which will become a common sight for players."

In more specific terms, all the junctions have been rebuilt, the US-37 to Napa Valley crossroad has been rebuilt, there's a new area around Carquinez Bridge, the I-80 and I-580 merge is more realistic, and the Richmond Bridge landmark has gotten a rework.

Infinity Ward is making Call of Duty 2022 (officially)

Breaking news: a new Call of Duty game is in development and is expected to launch this year. If you hadn't already seen the leaks, you could probably have guessed as much, but alongside today's financial earnings report, Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward have made it official. The details so far are vague, but they seem to line up with earlier reports that this year's game would be a direct sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare.

"Development on this year's premium and Warzone experiences is being led by Activision's renowned Infinity Ward studio," the company says in a press release. "The team is working on the most ambitious plan in franchise history, with industry-leading innovation and a broadly appealing franchise setting."

There've been numerous reports from reliable insiders suggesting that this year's game would be called Modern Warfare 2, which fits with the idea of a "broadly appealing franchise setting". Elsewhere in today's report, Activision says Call of Duty in 2021 was down compared to 2020, "reflecting lower premium sales for Call of Duty: Vanguard versus the year ago title and lower engagement in Call of Duty: Warzone".

Tim Schafer says new IP only, no Warcraft Adventures remake

While StarCraft: Ghost and the MMORPG Titan are Blizzard's most famous cancelled games, they aren't the only ones. Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans was an early, pre-WoW attempt to expand the Warcraft lore through a point-and-click adventure game. But now that Activision Blizzard is about to be under the same banner as the adventure veterans at Double Fine, is there hope for a revival?

Double Fine boss Tim Schafer says no. "[Former Double Fine developer, now at Valve] Brad Muir was suggesting that we take on Warcraft Adventures," Schafer tells IGN. "You know, the Full Throttle-era adventure game that they made. But no, we like to make up our own stuff at Double Fine, so they will not be handing us any IPs."

In fact, after the release of the excellent Psychonauts 2, Schafer wants to get back to all original stuff at Double Fine. Schafer says "There's been some technical other games that I've worked on that have been sequels, but the first real big follow-up to a big story was Pscyhnonauts 2. I think it leads me to want to do new, original stuff for the next phase. Coming up with new ideas is really where my head is at right now."

Victoria 3 has an all new approach to colonisation

Given that it's set between 1836-1936, upcoming grand strategy game Victoria 3 has colonialism as one of the major political forces at play in the game. However, the Victoria 3 dev team is making some important changes to the way colonisation works over the ways it's been handled in the past.

As a new dev diary explains, in Victoria 3, colonies don't typically start out with a war. Instead, 'centralised' nations - the kind that have historically gotten to have their names on the maps - can establish colonies in state regions controlled by decentralised nations, once they've researched colonisation laws and declared an interest in the area. When you establish a colony, you'll start with a single province in that state region - you won't have an instant monopoly on the area.

As your colony grows, there's a chance that it will generate tension with the decentralised nations in neighbouring provinces, and if that gets too high, those indigenous populations can launch a native uprising, which in Victoria 3 is considered a type of diplomatic play. This could result in the natives expelling the colonisers from their homeland, and while the colonial powers usually will have a significant technological edge, they'll need to worry about the logistics of moving military forces and equipment to and from the area. The natives will be fighting with home field advantage.

Company of Heroes 3's missions are built for a wide variety of units and playstyles

Company of Heroes 3 looks and feels a lot like its predecessors in many ways, at least once battles break out. But its dynamic 'sandbox' approach to the campaign means the developers have had to create missions that can accommodate a huge variety of unit types and approaches. The developers of the upcoming RTS game say they've built missions to be flexible and challenging, no matter which company and equipment you bring to the fight.

In Company of Heroes games of the past (with the exception of the Ardennes Assault DLC campaign for Company of Heroes 2), missions played out in a specific, story-driven sequence. That meant the mission designers knew exactly which units would be involved from the start, and could tailor the missions for specific engagements.

That's very much not the case with Company of Heroes 3, where the campaign map presents a wide variety of options for each move, and you have a persistent company of soldiers that you can outfit and upgrade as you see fit. You might be playing as a British company or an American one; you might have brought tanks, or you may have invested more in logistics support.

Ex-Razer designer has a new controller to replace gaming keyboards

With top-of-the-line optical switches, RGB lighting, and detachable numpads, it's easy to forget that our keyboards weren't originally intended to play games. Now, it's difficult to imagine a setup without one, but Edward Larkin, former Razer elite innovation designer and pioneer of the mouse bungee, thinks "gaming keyboards are the dinosaurs of the modern gaming world and need to go the way of the dodo." What should rise up in its place? A controller, of course; but not just any old gamepad: PLA Lab's Alt Motion Controller.

While your regular PC controller comes with the bonus of pressure-sensitive analogue inputs, losing your gaming mouse leaves you at a distinct disadvantage in FPS games - at least without the aid of aim assist. There are a handful of Wooting, Cooler Master, and Razer gaming keyboards with analogue switches if you don't mind paying the premium, but then you face subpar ergonomics.

The Alt controller aims to blend the best of both worlds, offering a bunch of strategically-placed analogue sticks while co-existing with your rodent. If it holds up to its promise, you'll never have to stretch your fingers from W, A, S, and D to G again.

Tina Armstrong Joins DOAXVV English Version Characters

The cast of characters in the English version of DOAXVV is growing, as Koei Tecmo announced Tina Armstrong is already available in the game. She's available in the Star Outfit Gacha. It will run until February 17, 2022 and uses V-stones. She wears the Dream Chaser (Tina) SSR swimsuit.

This is something of an unusual addition. Normally, there is a delay between DOAXVV characters being added in Japan and worldwide. However, Tina joined the Japanese version of the game at the end of January 2022. She's also among the few mainline DOA heroines added after launch. Typically, original characters are added.

This means that there's also an English version of the Tina Armstrong DOAXVV trailer. If you turn on closed captions, English subtitles are available. Yuko Nagashima returns to voice her for this spin-off. She's played the pro-wrestler since DOA 2,

Aside from Tina, one of the other new characters in DOAXVV is Koharu. The original heroine showed up back in November 2021.

Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation is playable in English on PCs via Johren and Steam. Tina Armstrong will be available in the Star Outfit Gacha until February 17, 2022. After it ends, she will only appear on "Tina-exclusive swimsuits" banners.

While reviews have been mostly positive, even the most generous of reviews have mentioned the bugs. And if Techland was able to find and fix over 1,000 bugs, my guess is the technical issues were somewhat of a big issue in the game.   Day one patch In regards to the state of Dying Light 2, Developer Techland stated, "Within the last two weeks we added over a thousand ...
