The magic behind Wordle is, of course, that there's only one puzzle a day. Combined with the ease with which players can paste their spoiler-free results to social media and group chats, it's that the whole world is all playing the same puzzle, the same day, that makes it so alluring. But screw that! You can now play…

Dying Light 2 is the latest big-budget open-world game blowing up on Steam and other platforms. I enjoyed it, less for its narrative and more because it features excellent parkour and fun combat. Oh, and there are zombies and other undead mutants. But that's not the most hard-to-believe part of Dying Light 2. No,…

Gotham Knights may be getting a tie-in comic from a major Batman team

There's not been any solid news on Gotham Knights since the "Court of Owls" faction trailer at DC Fandome last October but a leak from a popular Batman artist suggests that the game could be getting a tie-in comic of some sort similar to other superhero games - and by the creators of the Court of Owls, no less.

Artist Greg Capullo and writer Scott Snyder have worked together many times, including a popular run on Batman comics from around 2011-2016. Most notably, they are the creators of the Court of Owls, the villainous organisation that will play a large role in Gotham Knights.

Scott Snyder has previously been confirmed as working with developer WB Montreal on the game, but now it seems that Greg Capullo is also working on a Gotham Knights project. Capullo tweeted out some art of Batgirl and Nightwing he is working on, and fans quickly noticed that their designs were clearly those from Gotham Knights. Capullo deleted the tweet, but a picture of Nightwing in the same style is still up on his Instagram page.

With all the controversy about NFTs - including companies announcing support for them before retracting that support shortly afterward - indie game site Itch.io has taken to Twitter to confirm its stance on the blockchain currency: "NFTs are a scam", with some harsh words for any company that deals in them.

NFTs are a deeply controversial topic in the games industry - and the world in general, really. Steam has banned any games that use them outright, and any game studio that has announced plans to utilise NFTs - such as Team 17 or the team behind STALKER 2 - has faced immediate backlash, despite some bigger publishers going ahead with them.

Now indie game supporter Itch.io has weighed in on the situation and confirmed its stance on NFTs, as apparently people have been asking the company about them. In a multi-part post on Twitter, Itch.io didn't mince words: "NFTs are a scam," it says, adding that they are only used for the "exploitation of creators, financial scams, and the destruction of the planet".

Nier creator's Voice of Cards is getting a sequel – and it's out this month

Last year the creator of the Nier series Yoko Taro launched a card game-RPG with Square Enix called Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars, which was pretty well received despite not being that Nier sequel we really want. It did so well that Voice of Cards 2 is happening - in fact, it's already done and is out in less than two weeks.

Last September it was announced that Yoko Taro was working on a tabletop RPG card game as part of a new franchise, and the first game in the Voice of Cards series was released on October 28, 2021. In what is possibly the quickest turnaround for a sequel ever, it's now just over three months later and Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden has been announced for a release on February 17.

Yoko Taro is back as the game's creative director, along with executive producer Yosuke Saito and music director Keiichi Okabe - who both worked on the Nier games - as well as character designer Kimihiko Fujisaka.

Sifu PC reviews – our roundup of the critics' scores

Intriguing new martial arts action-adventure Sifu is out this week on Tuesday, February 8, and while on console it's a PS5 exclusive it'll also be available on PC at the same time via the Epic Games Store. The critics' reviews are out now, so is the Sifu PC version a well-optimized delight or a Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade?

Sifu certainly seems to be a divisive game, at the very least. Review scores range from 90/100 all the way down to 40/100 - and both of those scores are attributable to more than one publication. The OpenCritic score - that incorporates both PS5 and PC versions - sits right in the middle at a still-respectable 79, and the Metacritic score for the PC version specifically is a slightly lower 76.

Rock Paper Shotgun's unscored review describes Sifu as "the ultimate, get annoyed, put the game down, come back later and make tons of progress, type of game" and its reviewer gave the game one of its "bestest bests" awards. Destructoid was similarly praise-worthy, noting that it's a very difficult game but is "a challenge worth taking on and overcoming".

Vivid Knight gameplay feature

Games that change your entire outlook on a genre are important. Despite liking a few dungeon-crawlers and roguelikes over the years, I've never considered myself a fan of the genre. I rarely pick up games in which that's the main selling point. And yet, Asobism's Vivid Knight has me rethinking those past decisions. With a rather simple premise, Vivid Knight tasks you with making your way through multi-floor dungeons to collect gems and defeat the boss. Like I said, Vivid Knight is simple until you really consider its gameplay mechanics.

That simplicity is one of Vivid Knights strongest points. The combat system is neither varied nor complicated. You set your party members and when skills are off cooldown, you make your avatar set up a shield, randomly attack or cast a buff. Party members cycle through their skills automatically until the battle is done. That's really it. Well, sort of.

Every dungeon gives you 30 crystals as a first-time completion bonus, and it's possible to find more crystals within dungeons and their treasure levels. After clearing a dungeon, you're pushed back to the home screen to either spend crystals on Kingdom Grimoires, which function as a sort of gacha system, or to start a "new game." New games are just new dungeons. From there, you head right back into the action.

The interesting and fun part of Vivid Knight comes from all the behind the scenes work you have to do. The biggest mistake I made when playing became obvious during the third dungeon. The first two were easy enough that I didn't feel the need to pay much attention to the gems I was picking up or any of the rules regarding upgrades and party composition. I assumed I could go through levels aimlessly. I took the lack of in battle choices as a lack of difficulty, rather than the game slowly introducing you to its systems. So, I failed the third dungeon three times before realizing Vivid Knight's gameplay was a lot more involved than I previously thought.

Vivid Knight party gameplay

There are just over 50 characters to unlock and find, and they each have a color and symbol attached to them. This is a key element, and ignoring it because the first few dungeons lacked difficult battles is what caused my party to lose multiple times. Mixing colors and symbols provides your party with different attributes and effects. These make a huge difference in battle. The buffs provided range from support shields and effects to preemptive strikes and AOE magic damage. It's up to you to remember the units you have in play and in your storage while figuring out what your party needs to progress and ultimately beat the boss.

I absolutely loved (and sometimes hated) having to manage mana within dungeons, as running out of it meant taking damage with every movement. Deciding if I wanted to prioritize small enemy fights to unlock more party members or get to the boss with what I had as quickly as possible created an interesting predicament. Even the challenge that comes with often having a different, randomized party in every dungeon is a joy. All of these things add another layer onto a game that seemed simple and prone to repetition at first glance.

Vivid Knight combat gameplay

I like when a game can surprise me, and that's exactly what happened the first time I picked this up. Vivid Knight's gameplay loop is fast and dungeon layouts change with each level, making the game incredibly easy to play for short bursts during those in-between moments.

Vivid Knight is available on PC via Steam, and the Nintendo Switch.

Anasui Weather Report Nendoroid

Medicos Entertainment revealed that two new Nendoroid figures of Weather Report and Narciso Anasui from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are currently in development. The two side characters are the fifth and sixth Stone Ocean characters to appear in Nendoroid form. They join Ermes, Foo Fighters, Jolyne, and Jotaro. There is no confirmed release date or price. Additionally, Medicos Entertainment revealed the first images of a prototype Jotaro Nendoroid.

https://twitter.com/medicos_et_j/status/1490129867144196096?s=20&t=6pZ1fwzRTxcARi103T3Dzw

Much like Ermes and Foo Fighters before them, the Weather Report and Anasui Nendoroid figures will be based on the two characters' default appearances in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean. As the illustrations are basic designs, there will likely be other bonus parts included in the final product. The recently revealed Jolyne Nendoroid, for example, comes with a miniature mouse version of herself. Furthermore, Jolyne comes with additional hand parts that recreate her Stone Free stand ability, as well as optional face plates.

Good Smile Company originally announced the Stone Ocean Jotaro Nendoroid back in October 2021. The announcement image shows an unpainted Stone Ocean Jotaro Nendoroid prototype. We can see that the Nendoroid recreates smaller intricate details like the chain on Jotaro's collar. Good Smile Company has also released other versions of Jotaro in the past, including ones based on the character's appearance in Stardust Crusaders and Diamond is Unbreakable.

The JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Anasui and Weather Report Nendoroid figures are in development. There is no confirmed release date or price.

fate/grand order level 120 ssr

Delightworks has revealed the five most popular Fate/Grand Order SSR characters that players leveled up to level 120. It revealed the ranking during the Chaldea Satelite Station 2021-2022 (Kochi) Stream. It's based on player data from the Japanese version of the game. Additionally, Delightworks provided design documents for Sakamoto Ryoma (Lancer) and Oryo, as well as Arahabaki. Some of the characters appear in Lostbelt 6, so those who wish to avoid spoilers should proceed with caution. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Getting a servant to level 120 requires a significant amount of resources. In order to bring a character from level 100 to 120, users must have 300 servant coins, 10 Holy Grails, and 4,180 Gold All embers. As such, the characters that appear in the top five are likely to be the most valuable in a given player's roster.

Below are the top five SSR characters to get to level 120:

  1. Morgan
  2. Mélusine (Faerie Knight Lancelot)
  3. Oberon
  4. Muramasa
  5. Space Ishtar

Much like the top SR character ranking from December 2021, Delightworks presented each character alongside some short anecdotes relating to their strong suits. Notably, three out of the top five SSR characters were introduced to the game comparatively recently as part of the Lostbelt 6 story chapter. Many of the top five characters are also those that boasted strong attack abilities.

In the case of Morgan, Delightworks highlighted the fact that the character is a Berserker and has the ability to increase allies' attack and HP. Furthermore, one developer pointed out that Space Ishtar continues to stay in the top five likely due to the fact that she can fit into a wider variety of party compositions.

Fate/Grand Order is immediately available to play on mobile devices worldwide.

Tales of Arise Shionne Figure

Spiritale released new images of some of its upcoming figure designs, one of which is Shionne from Tales of Arise. It's not just any figure of Shionne though, as the character is wearing a special costume only included in the Premium Costume Pack DLC. The scale figure is in development, and there is no confirmed release date.

The costume, titled "SW-EQ02F" in-game, is one of a pair of Bandai Namco-commissioned costumes. Popular Japanese freelance illustrator SWAV designed costumes for both Alphen and Shionne in a futuristic style. Bandai Namco included the outfits in the Premium Costume Pack DLC along with matching hairstyles.

https://twitter.com/Spiritale_shop/status/1490128128920162304?s=20&t=-cLralMpFiJmKl1wLrSBiw

Spiritale announced the figure as part of the ongoing WonFes Winter 2022 event. However, details are still scarce. For now, we know that it will be a scale figure based on the released design. Other announcements from Spiritale include various figures of Hatsune Miku, as well as characters from My Hero Academia and Atelier Ryza 2.

Tales of Arise originally released in September 2021. Since then, the game's characters have appeared in a range of merchandise and figures. Late last year, Kotobukiya revealed images of Alphen and Dohalim figure prototypes. It is also developing a figure of Rinwell, as well as poseable plushies of all the major playable characters.

Tales of Arise is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The Tales of Arise Shionne figure from Spiritale is in development. There is no confirmed release date.
