Yesterday evening, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops will be ceasing operations indefinitely in March 2023. One terrible consequence of this is that a number of games which are exclusive to the 3DS eShop simply won't be available to purchase, anywhere.

I have no idea how to even describe the game that No Man's Sky has become at this point, and its latest free update called Sentinel is a perfect illustration of why.      Win an RTX 3070 Ti GPU to celebrate Eve's glossy gaming monitor

It's official: the Eve Spectrum will get a glossy coating option on its 4K 144Hz and QHD 280Hz models, making it the first gaming monitor to shed the traditional matte finish. This is something the company first teased back in December after getting its hands on LG's new glossy polariser, and it's not short of demand. Eve held a poll with its community and found that at least 1,417 people are interested in the innovation.

Glossy displays are a dime a dozen in the smartphone and smart TV space, but the reason it's taken so long to come to monitors is because of the additional research and development costs it brings - after all, the old adage does say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. What might seem like a simple layer from the outside actually requires fundamental changes to the assembly line, calibration process, and durability testing.

Armed with the enthusiasm of its fans, Eve explains that it convinced LG to take the plunge, and glossy Spectrums are inbound. These include the same specifications we praised in our Eve Spectrum 4K review, including an IPS panel and HDMI 2.1. It might be too much to ask for better DisplayHDR 600 implementation given this is a new finish and not a new model entirely, but the deeper blacks that glossy screens afford might make forgoing HDR a little easier.

     This will be

In the run-up to the release of Patch 7, developer Larian has made clear that the 1.0 version of Baldur's Gate 3 is unlikely to launch in 2022. But while the studio is sticking by a release date of 'when it's ready' for now, it doesn't sound like development is going to drag out forever, either. Larian expects this to be the final year of the game's development.

"We're going to release it when it's ready," Larian head Swen Vincke tells us in an interview. "I mean, the main goal here is quality: getting the game at the quality level that it needs to be. That said, we do think we still need a year to do that. But it will be the last year. We're getting to the end of it."

Vincke adds that the launch is "probably not this year, but it's not going to be much later than that." Hope is alive for that Q1 2023 Baldur's Gate 3 release date, then.

Rainbow Six Siege: Demon Veil officially revealed as Y7S1

A new Rainbow Six Siege season is nearly upon us, and while Ubisoft is saving the full reveal for this weekend, we're getting the usual drip-feed of teasers leading up to the proper unveiling. Today, we learn that Rainbow Six Siege: Demon Veil is officially the name of Year 7 Season 1, and the devs have provided details on exactly when to tune in for the final reveal.

The Y7S1 reveal will take place on Saturday, February 19 at 7:30am PST / 10:30am EST / 3:30pm GMT. The first details on the Year 7 roadmap are set to follow on Sunday, February 20 at 8am PST / 11am EST / 4pm GMT. Both parts of the broadcast will run on the official Rainbow Six Twitch channel, during the Six Invitational 2022.

Based on previous Siege season rollouts, you can expect Demon Veil to hit test servers shortly after the reveal, and it should hit live servers sometime in March. We'll be getting a new operator for Y7S1, of course - one who appears to be equipped with a kunai.

Two Point Campus reveals how to train tomb raiders

The latest Two Point Campus trailer goes in-depth on the management game's Archaeology course, where players will be able to train prospective students in the art of uncovering hidden artifacts and raiding tombs - and even possibly uncover a race of mole people.

Two Point Campus is the follow-up to Two Point Hospital, which was itself a spiritual successor to Bullfrog's Theme Hospital - one of the best old PC games that's still entertaining today. Campus moves away from the hospital theme towards running a wacky college, and it'll likely be just as challenging.

The new trailer is the first in a series of reveals for the various classes available in Two Point Campus, and is all about the Archaeology course. Players can take groups of students to dig sites, where they have to uncover various artifacts using items ranging from careful brushes to pneumatic drills. The more the students learn, the better treasures they can dig up, and the more experience the teacher gets, the quicker the students learn - and the more money the player gets.

Baldur's Gate 3 devs think the Steam Deck is

With the Steam Deck release date just around the corner, excitement surrounding Valve's portable gaming PC is understandably high. However, while most of us are waiting impatiently for our pre-orders to arrive, the Deck is already impressing game developers around the world. In fact, Baldur's Gate 3's game director Swen Vincke is a "big fan" and describes the experience of playing some games on it as nothing short of "amazing."

These glowing words of endorsement for the Steam Deck emerged from our conversations with Vincke during a preview event for Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7. While we shouldn't expect any native Deck support for the DnD RPG anytime soon, with Larian Studios focusing its attention on finishing the game, Vincke is thoroughly impressed with how the developer's Divinity: Original Sin games run.

"D:OS and D:OS 2 play fantastically on the Deck, to the point that I'd personally recommend playing them both on it. The games run really well, and when I say that I mean amazingly so." Speaking more specifically about Valve's handheld device, Swen elaborates, "games like this work really well on the Deck because of how large the screen is, and the ergonomics of it feel really good too. So, I think it'll do very well, and I'm a big fan."

Re-Logic is trolling us with Terraria 2 teasers

It seems that nothing will stop Terraria from continuing to be updated - except maybe a sequel. To be clear, Terraria 2 has absolutely not yet been announced, but the devs are absolutely teasing its existence. A couple of knowing nods already have fans eagerly speculating on the possibilities.

Terraria creator Andrew 'Redigit' Spinks recently updated the location in his Twitter bio to say "Terraria 2 - a new age". Prolific Terraria YouTuber Chippy quickly picked up on the change, and fellow Terraria dev Whitney 'Cenx' Spinks dropped a Doctor Who gif warning of "spoilers", and adds that "Red is a massive troll. I wouldn't trust it. Or would I?" (And also made a Twitter bio change teasing "Terraria 2.5 the Final Update".)

So while Terraria 2 is still as-yet-unconfirmed, the devs are definitely willing to let us all go wild with speculation on its existence. After publishing about four final updates for the original, I can't imagine there's any better way to reveal a sequel to the world than by trolling everyone on Twitter.

Relive Destiny 2's opening in Solas, an 'Immersiplay' series

If you've been playing Destiny since the very beginning, or even since the beginning of Destiny 2, the opening moments of your guardian's story have probably taken on the sepia tones of a faded memory. The space game has woven a story across two titles and a whole catalogue of expansions and seasons - a lot has happened. But one videogame filmmaker has set out to recapture those first few moments, using techniques usually associated with pre-release marketing.

Gage Allen, the creative director at Player One Trailers, has recently debuted the first episode of a new series of Destiny videos called Solas, which traces the story of a single guardian - a hunter named Vero Solas - from the moment he awakens with the light of the Traveler outside the Cosmodrome.

Solas uses a blend of filmmaking and capture techniques to create something that's somewhere in between a 'let's play' and machinima. Allen calls it 'Immersiplay,' and it manages to recapture what Destiny feels like rather than what it's actually like to play.

Dying Light 2 patch fixes the death-loop bug, for real this time

There's a new Dying Light 2 patch out and it purports to fix the dreaded death-loop bug, stopping it from happening and hopefully fixing the instances where it's currently going on. The new fix for Techland's parkour zombie game is out now, and it even comes with a save rollback system.

While Dying Light 2 has undeniably been popular, since its launch earlier this month players have been complaining about the enormous number of bugs in the FPS game. Developer-publisher Techland has been rolling out fixes throughout February, but until now hasn't managed to sort out one of Dying Light 2's most frustrating bugs.

The death-loop bug happens when a player dies in a restricted area and respawns in another part of the map, but is too far to get back to the area before the time limit runs out - killing them and sending them to the respawn location again. Techland suggested it had fixed this campaign block issue last week, but many players reported that the bug was still affecting them.

Steam Deck has 22 more playable games, including Monster Hunter Rise

Coming full circle from its handheld roots on the Nintendo Switch, Valve has dubbed the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise as 'playable' on the Steam Deck ahead of the first wave of devices shipping next week. The certification comes as part of its chonky Proton 7 update, and is just one of 22 games that are now compatible with the portable gaming PC, including Forza Horizon 5, Yakuza 4 Remastered, and Persona 4 Golden.

It's worth noting that 'playable' is a distinct category compared to something that's fully 'verified' by Valve. It means the company recognises that a game ticks most boxes in order to run comfortably, but it might come with a few caveats or hiccups, such as a lack of touchscreen or native controller support or other issues. For example, Sea of Thieves fell into the playable group when Proton 5.13-1 released back in October, 2020, but has only just received fixes for its voice chat and multiplayer bugs.

Valve has picked up the pace in recent months, however, hiring people to manually review all 50,000 games on Steam. It surpassed 100 playable games at the end of January, added 70 more just over a week later, and currently sits near the 200 mark (with more than 242 verified).

Destiny 2's Witch Queen set-up quest marred by bugs and trolls

Destiny 2's big end-of-season finale and set-up quest for the Witch Queen expansion is being met with a bevy of issues. Groups of players are reporting progression-blocking bugs while a few others who do make it towards the end can't watch the post-mission cutscene as it's skippable by anyone in your fireteam.

Bungie is currently investigating the bugs, though the developer does have advice to help those affected in the meantime. Players can block progression through the level by moving too quickly over the bridge encounter, so you'll want to double back and take it slow if you're stuck. The option to join a session in-progress has also been removed, and the power level has been lowered to 1170 from 1270.

The developer has also told players not to skip the final cutscene, though we're not sure quite how effective that's proving. Our head honcho, Rich, tried the mission this morning, though he was denied the chance to see his guardian in the big flashy cutscene. If the same happens to you, your best best bet might be catching it on YouTube for now.

City builder Against the Storm adds a new harpy faction

Against the Storm is about to expand in a surprising direction. The survival city-building game has always had a dash of Redwall-esque fantasy flavour, but it's adding a new species to the mix this week that adds a few heaping cupfuls. Joining the existing lineup of humans, beavers, and lizards are the new harpies, a "noble and fragile" race that has lost the ability to fly but maintained its somewhat aggressive streak.

Harpies will arrive on the main branch of Against the Storm on February 17, following a stint in the PTR. They're coming alongside a host of other changes and updates that make some serious alterations to planning your expeditions. With four species in the game, you'll only have three in any given settlement. Whether you pick them yourself or leave things to chance is determined by the new caravan system, which you'll use as part of the normal embarkation process for each new settlement.

Like everything else in Against the Storm, the choices you make for caravans will have various trade-offs. You might want to pick one that gives you bonus starting food, but that might come at the cost of knowing what two of your three species will be.

Genshin Impact tier list: the best characters in the 2.5 update

There are currently 49 Genshin Impact characters available, so there's no shortage of candidates for your dream team. But with so many different weapon, elementals, talents, ascension bonuses, and constellations upgrades, finding your favourites can be challenging.

In truth, it is difficult to find a truly bad Genshin Impact character. While base stats and elemental abilities are important, the value of a character also depends on personal playstyle, available weapons and artifacts, and team composition. That being said, if your favourite character is in C tier or below, you may struggle to get past some of the more challenging Spiral Abyss floors. Don't worry too much if your favourite character is on one of the lower tiers; you can still make it work with our recommended Genshin Impact builds.

In general, being on the highest tiers mean that the character is the best in their role, is not too difficult to build, and performs well regardless of teammates. Being on a lower tier means that there are better alternatives, or the character needs a very specific build or team to shine.  Just to note, the characters are not ranked within their own tier, and with that out of the way, let's take a look at our ranking of characters in our Genshin Impact tier list!

Dead By Daylight's Sadako is proving too scary for some players

The just-announced Dead By Daylight x The Ring crossover DLC, Sadako Rising, isn't out until March 8 but players with early access are finding out the bad side of tying one of the best horror games to one of the most terrifying horror franchises ever - as one particular jumpscare is catching a lot of people by surprise.

It was revealed this week that the next big horror movie collaboration coming to multiplayer game Dead By Daylight is The Ring/Ringu, which will introduce new survivor Yoichi Asakawa as well as the film's iconic long-haired ghost girl Sadako to the game.

The Sadako Rising DLC will officially release on March 8 but a number of streamers have already been granted access to it - and they're finding Sadako a little too horrifying, especially in regards to one jumpscare that isn't even in the game itself (thanks, Eurogamer). When selecting a Killer in the lobby, the character will usually stand patiently on the side while the player picks their Perks. Sadako, however, will instead choose a random moment to jumpscare the player.

Genshin Impact events – all current and upcoming events

Want to know more about the upcoming Genshin Impact events? A new version of Genshin Impact arrives every six weeks, complete with new characters, quests, and events. It's difficult to keep track of which events are currently running and if there are any new ones coming soon, so here's a schedule for all current and upcoming Genshin Impact events.

Genshin Impact has a number of events running simultaneously, and they aren't just in-game events. When a new Genshin Impact character joins the game, the devs launch a web event at the same time - players learn about the latest characters through an interactive story told through a web browser. The rewards for completing different events range from in-game items like primogems and mora, to real life prizes like mouse mats and plushies.

Just like the Genshin Impact banners, most events are only available for a limited time, so it's worth participating as soon as you can. New events are usually added to Genshin Impact after an update, but it's worth keeping an eye out on this page as the devs do like to surprise the community.

Valheim is getting a new icy dungeon

While we don't know when Valheim's Mistlands update will fully launch, we now have some more content for the Viking game to tide us over until the big day. Iron Gate is currently testing out a new dungeon on Valheim's public test branch, and you can go and check it out for yourself on Steam.

Frost Caves are a new type of dungeon that will only appear in unexplored areas in the Mountains biome. You'll have to deal with ulvs, cultists, and bats while you hunt around for the new red jute, fenring hair, and fenring claw crafting items. The perilous trek looks like it'll be well worth it, though, as you'll be able to craft a fenring-themed armour set, the new Flesh Rippers weapon, and some more build pieces, which are named red jute carpet, red jute curtain, and standing brazier.

The danger doesn't stop there, though, as a new event can also occur. Iron Gate hasn't yet revealed what it'll entail, though you'll know it's coming when "you stirred the cauldron" is plastered across the screen. Gulp. "The fenrings stalking the Mountains at night had to come from somewhere," Iron Gate says. "Now you can finally discover the strange frozen caves where their brethren reside – if you're brave enough to face them. Maybe you'll even be able to learn a thing or two from how they fight?"

The Witcher 3 director is creating a new dark fantasy RPG

The Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who also acted as second director and head of production on CD Projekt Red's latest major RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, has unveiled his new studio and given us an idea of what it's got in the works. Called Rebel Wolves, the new start-up studio brings together "a talented team of industry veterans from projects such as The Witcher series, Cyberpunk 2077, Thronebreaker, and Shadow Warrior 2" - and it's cooking up something that sounds like it'll appeal to Witcher fans.

Rebel Wolves reveals in a press release that it's working on a "dark fantasy RPG built in Unreal Engine 5", and that the studio's "driven by the desire to build a passionate team dedicated to creating vibrant virtual worlds, filled to the brim with powerful emotions and unique experiences". The studio also reveals that this will mark the first game in a planned saga. There are no details on the game beyond these, sadly, but it's exciting news for Witcher fans keen to see Tomaszkiewicz's experience directing one of the most beloved dark fantasy RPGs of all time feed into another project along similar-sounding lines.

"We're developing a videogame we'd like to play in a way that games should be made," Tomaszkiewicz says. "We want to evolve the CRPG genre by creating unforgettable stories and stirring deep emotions, all while working as a tightly knit team united by a shared goal and ambition.

The best OTs 9 loadout in Warzone Pacific

Searching for the best OTs 9 loadout in Warzone? Compared to the best SMGs in Warzone, the OTs 9 features some of the lowest recoil we've ever seen from this type of weapon. This does come at a cost, however, as the OTs 9 has been designed to use relatively small magazines.

Our loadout focuses on the SMG's strengths, ensuring the weapon has extremely low recoil while extending the damage range to make the OTs 9 effective from further distances. If you're looking for a strong secondary weapon to use on Caldera or Rebirth Island, the OTs 9 definitely needs to be considered as it's a fantastic SMG pick.

To unlock the OTs 9, you must complete the following challenge: using SMGs, kill two or more players rapidly in 15 different completed matches. The easiest way to do this in Warzone is to play Plunder - this mode allows players to quit mid-match once you have secured a double kill. If you can find players easily, this method shouldn't take longer than an hour at most. Alternatively, purchase the Inside Job weapon bundle in the store for 1200 CoD Points.

Netflix's BioShock movie has the rights to both Rapture and Columbia

Netflix has revealed that a BioShock movie is in production, and the streaming service has the adaptation rights to the entire FPS game franchise. That includes BioShock Infinite, meaning Netflix could potentially incorporate the floating city of Columbia and characters like Elizabeth as well as the sunken city of Rapture if it so chooses.

This week Netflix announced that it is "partnering to produce a film adaptation of the renowned videogame franchise BioShock" along with publisher 2K/Take-Two Interactive. Official Twitter feed Netflix Geeked posted the reveal alongside the cover art for the original BioShock, which shows the city of Rapture alongside the game's iconic Big Daddy and its Little Sister companion.

It seems like the BioShock Netflix movie will be based on Rapture and the more popular BioShock 1, which is more of a horror game. However, as spotted by Twitter user Supererogatory (via TheSixthAxis) Netflix has actually picked up the rights to the entire franchise - including Bioshock 2, Infinite, and the Rapture novel. This potentially means that Netflix could introduce elements from Infinite too if it wants, including the city of Columbia and characters such as Elizabeth and Booker - who did cross over into Rapture, of course.

The best robot games on PC in 2022

What are the best robot games on PC? Strapping into an overpowered robot filled to the brim with rockets and lasers is a power fantasy as old as anime itself. Classic shows from the '80s and '90s - like Mobile Suit Gundam and Neon Genesis Evangelion - popularised the mecha anime genre, and helped fan the flames of the larger mech fandom. Considering that those anime were themselves inspired by manga written in the '40s and '50s, the appeal of oversized robot combat spans generations.

Robot games have a robust history rich in a variety of genres, ensuring that there's an experience for every kind of mech fan. Fancy yourself a gearhead with a penchant for the micromanagement of mech parts and deliberate, laboured robo combat? How do you feel about fast-paced, anime-inspired Voltron-style action? Good news: there's a game for you.

The bad news is that there might be too much choice. But never fear because we've compiled this list of the 13 best robot games available to play on PC and have taken special care to represent as many different genres as possible. So if you're looking to dive into the wide world of robot games, this is a great place to start.

No Man's Sky update makes combat

No Man's Sky gets its next major update today, which looks to make combat "much more challenging and exciting". Called the Sentinel update, it - as its name suggests - dials up the challenge in tackling the Sentinel policing drones, overhauling the space game's combat systems, the enemies you encounter, and more along the way to get players overcoming the hazards "in a more meaningful way".

There's a neat lore focus in the Sentinel update, as players will get to learn more about how these mysterious and dangerous contraptions came into being. The update brings a "substantial" sequence of story-driven missions to complete that get you working with the Space Anomaly crew or raiding Sentinel Pillars to uncover the secrets behind the Atlas and the World of Glass, Hello Games explains in a press release. Going through these missions, you can take on your own AI drone companion, which you can then re-programme. Or, there's always the opportunity to salvage Sentinel Hardframe parts to forge your own autonomous, AI-powered giant mechanical escort, if that sounds like something you'd like to have on your side.

The Sentinels themselves have become more challenging, with a new elite class to battle - that means new heavy, summoner, and repair units - as well as a "fearsome" Hardframe Exomech. The hovering antagonists now also have their own mobile energy shields and new weapons, including grenades that can obliterate terrain and plasma-powered flamethrowers. Gulp.

     Cyberpunk 2077 system requirements

With the release of Patch 1.5, CD Projekt Red has updated the Cyberpunk 2077 system requirements. These changes mostly affect ageing gaming PCs, removing support for Windows 7 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 700 series GPUs. Regardless, the RPG boasts plenty of features for those with the best graphics cards on the market.

Cyberpunk 2077 remains something of a benchmark title for many systems. It features a slew of ray tracing features such as global illumination alongside improved reflections, shadows, and ambient occlusion. Thankfully, it supports AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS which should help boost fps and make running all that ray traced eye candy a little easier on your rig.

While Cyberpunk 2077 can be played on a hard drive, the developer explicitly recommends that you run it on one of the best SSDs for gaming. This should help improve load times in the game, while also allowing it to stream in assets at a faster rate.

Genshin Impact new characters in the 2.5 update and beyond

Looking for more information about the new characters coming to Genshin Impact? Since its release in 2020, the addictive anime game has seen plenty of regular updates expanding on the game's content - and adding several new characters by way of limited time banners.

According to Mihoyo's Genshin Impact roadmap, they aim to release new updates every six weeks - and if past experience is anything to go by, during each new patch, there will be at least one new banner with a new Genshin Impact five-star character, and possible new four-star characters included as well. That said, several new Genshin Impact characters have been added outside of this schedule, like Genshin Impact Klee - so we could see new characters arrive unexpectedly, too.

Yae Miko is the most recent new character to arrive in the Genshin Impact 2.5 update, but there are also a few leaks and some datamined information concerning new characters that may appear in future Genshin Impact updates and beyond. However, until they're officially announced, these characters are not final and may be subject to changes.

A group of former CD Projekt Red folks have formed a new studio, announcing plans to make their own "AAA" "story-driven" "dark fantasy RPG". The studio are named Rebel Wolves, and they're founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who was director of The Witcher 3 and secondary game director on Cyberpunk 2077. Their RPG is largely a mystery for now, though a wee bit of artwork suggests at least one vampire is involved?

Fate/Grand Order Solomon Movie Crunchyroll Release Date Set

The next Fate/Grand Order movie Final Singularity - Grand Temple of Time: Solomon now has a Crunchyroll release date. The service announced back in January 2022 that it would air it. Now, it confirmed people can watch it starting at 1pm PT/4pm ET on February 18, 2022.

For people keeping up with the Fate/Grand Order game, the events of the Solomon movie should be familiar. This is an adaptation of its storyline. To be specific, it finishes up part one of the main quest. As the title suggests, Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight head to the Grand Temple of Time: Solomon. They'll need to face the King of Mages Solomon. But they won't be alone. Servants like Jeanne d'Arc will join them.

In case you missed it, here's a trailer going over what people can expect from the movie. While it does show characters like Solomon, it is largely spoiler-free.

The Crunchyroll release date for Fate/Grand Order Final Singularity - Grand Temple of Time: Solomon is February 18, 2022. It will also appear on Funimation, though there is no debut date for it there yet. The official website for the film and other adaptation is open. Fate/Grand Order is available on Android and Apple iOS devices.

Puzzle & Dragons Nintendo Switch Edition Arrives This Week

The Nintendo Switch is getting a new Puzzle & Dragons called, appropriately enough, Puzzle & Dragons Nintendo Switch Edition. This will be a more direct adaptation of the original game. It will be playable both in handheld mode and docked. There will also be Quest, PvP, and Custom modes available.

The Quest Mode is typical Puzzle & Dragons fare. You create teams of monsters. You then take them through puzzles in 16 dungeons. If you have people on-hand nearby, one to three other people can join you. The PVP mode features NPCs and real world people to fight. There are Friend and World match options here. As for the Custom mode, it will let people create a dungeon. You set up how they look and the monsters inside. In addition to making your own, you can challenge ones others' created.

This is actually the second Puzzle & Dragons game to show up on the system. The first was Puzzle & Dragons Gold. Rather than a more direct adaptation of the original game, it is a more competitive one. It involved a campaign with two stories and preset teams and the option to create custom teams and play against others online.

Puzzle & Dragons Nintendo Switch Edition will come to the system on February 19, 2022. It will cost $4.37 on the eShop.

Feeding the Ghostwire Tokyo Dogs Leads to Rewards

There's an update on what the dogs in Ghostwire Tokyo are capable of in-game. A new video shows Akito interacting with a Shiba Inu. After taking care of the dog, they end up digging up some in-game currency for him.

Here's the video. It shows how Akito will actually be able to understand what the dogs are saying in Ghostwire Tokyo. Upon conversing with this dog and feeding them dog food from a convenience store, it leads them to Meika.

This isn't the only sort of interaction available. During a hands-off preview, a dog appeared. As Akito was walking through the city, it was agitated and barking when facing an alley. This served as an alert that a Visitor was there, so the player could be on guard and ready to attack.

We also know that it is possible to pet the dogs in the game. There is even a video of Akito petting one.

Ghostwire: Tokyo will come to the PS5 and PC on March 25, 2022. People who get the Deluxe Edition will be granted early access on March 22, 2022.

Elden Ring pre-load

Owners of the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One consoles can now start to pre-load Elden Ring, From Software's new action-RPG. Players who've pre-purchased the game on those platforms can download it ahead of its planned February 25, 2022 release date. The PS5 pre-load will begin closer to its release day.[Thanks, Game Watch].

Pre-loading is the practice of downloading a purchased digital copy of a game prior to release, so that a player doesn't have to wait long to play when it unlocks. As game download sizes have grown, pre-loading is a useful option for players with limited time or slower internet connections. Of course, pre-load game files are generally inaccessible until launch day, when the console typically downloads the final part of the game, finalizes installation, and applies a purchase authentication.

The Elden Ring pre-load files will take up about 49GB of space on a player's Xbox console. It's a fairly moderate size for a modern major release, though the addition of "day one" patches or content may increase demands on storage. Storage has become something of an issue with modern consoles, thanks to the rise of digital game-buying. New consoles like the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 also employ high-speed solid state drives (SSDs) as their internal storage devices, as well. However, SSDs generally have lower storage space than hard disk drives. This limits the default storage space available to typically under one terabyte, limiting available space for big games without expansion.

Elden Ring releases on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5 on February 25, 2022. Check out the game's minimum system requirements on PC.

Brainstorm a Yae Miko Build With Her New Trailer

As usual, miHoYo shared a new Genshin Impact Collected Miscellany trailer. Each one of these videos features Yuri "Dainsleif" Lowenthal talking about the latest addition to the cast. The new one goes over the moveset and special abilities for Yae Miko, which might help people think about a possible artifact set and build for her. One thing to keep in mind for her is that Elemental Mastery matters.

First, the video kicks off with Yae Miko's more standard attacks. Her normal and charge attack involves the Spiritfox Sin-Eater, which deals Electro DMG. All of her attacks rely on Electro DMG. So when she uses her Yakan Evocation: Sesshou Sakura Elemental Skill, she can set up to three Sesshou Sakura in the field to hit enemies with lightening. Her Great Secret Art: Tenko Kenshin Elemental Burst will cause any Sesshou Sakura in the field to deal AOE Electro DMG while also dealing AOE Electro DMG on its own. Should you ascend Yae Miko, her fourth Enlightened Blessing passive will make her Sesshou Sakura deal more damage based on Elemental Mastery scaling.

This means when preparing a Yae Miko build, it could be handy to go with artifacts that boost Electro DMG or Elemental Mastery. Mondstadt's Midsummer Courtyard Domain is home to Thundering Fury. If two of these artifacts are equipped, the character gets a 15% Electro DMG bonus. With four, Electro-related reactions like Electro-charged, Overloaded, and Superconduct do 40% more damage and can reset an Elemental Skill's cooldown by one second. Given her reliance on Electro DMG and Elemental Mastery, going with items from this set that increase both could be helpful.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. It will also come to the Nintendo Switch. The Yae Miko banner will be available until March 8, 2022.

Review: The Forsaken Maiden Shuffles Voice of Cards' Deck

It usually takes a while before we see a sequel to an RPG. Yet here we are with Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden arriving four months after The Isle Dragon Roars. Which means, well, things are going to feel similar! Not in terms of the story. This is a unique tale filled with warrior maidens, monsters, and high seas exploration. But given the brief gap between the two games, it will mechanically like a second verse of the same song.

Barren is a young man living on a doomed island. In this world, people depend on maidens to preserve their homelands and lives. Omega Island doesn't have one. So his dream is to set sail and explore. He won't be alone either. A young woman with no voice named Laty's been staying at the hideaway where he's building his boat. However, after a chance encounter at the shrine near the village, Barren and Laty will set out to help her perhaps become the island's maiden and save the day.

Review: The Forsaken Maiden Shuffles Voice of Cards' Deck

It's a tale that works well. There are certain tropes in play. However, the game plays around with them. In part because this isn't only the story of Barren and Laty. There are other maidens living on their own islands. It is their story too. As you travel, it will almost be like your party acts as supporting cast members in their adventures. It's a concept that works well. Not to mention the way it is handled means it fosters connection between the player and these other folks.

While this is a game played with plenty of cards, Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden is mostly a traditional turn-based RPG. You explore towns and dungeons. You fight monsters in turn-based battles, using general attacks and skills. (You set which skills are active outside of fights.) There are pieces of equipment and restorative items to acquire and use. It is all a very story-heavy affair, with even the tale calling to mind some other RPGs you might have played. (Many also from Square Enix!)

Square Enix Alim

The balancing could use a bit of tweaking. For the most part, Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden's difficulty is just right. You don't really need to invest in the most expensive equipment until you near the end. Things are generally well balanced. However, there are times when the encounter rate can wear on you. I noticed in situations in which I'd need to nearly fully explore a space, I'd get exhausted by a fight every 2-4 moves. There was also one boss fight that involved four opponents with high defense, attacks that could halve your health, and that would have the ability to heal themselves for 12 HP. When a situation like that comes up, it really messes with the experience. Especially since, prior to that, I hadn't seen a need to grind for levels.

I found loading to be quite noticeable in the Switch version of Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden. When you first begin the game, it will take about a minute to hop back into the adventure. When you're going into or out of a boss fight, it there's a substantial pause. I'd turned down the shadows in the options, in the hopes it would help. It did, but the wait is still significant.

Review: The Forsaken Maiden Shuffles Voice of Cards' Deck

But really, Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden is about its atmosphere. (Just like its predecessor The Isle Dragon Roars!) It really is like you're going through a campaign with a game master taking you through everything. This means rolling to determine damage or if status effects come into play. (The "GM" handles enemies' rolls.) There are crystals and markers for HP and MP. The "battlefield" is a tray with candles. Cards flip to reveal new areas. Also, talk to people, spend time with folks, or fight opponents enough and you'll earn "flip side" stories for their cards in your collection. (Think of it as like an encyclopedia or bestiary.) Your avatar is marked by a miniature moving around the cards. All that, combined with the ability to get through things in probably less than 15 hours, makes it feel more like a multi-part tabletop campaign than a traditional JRPG.

This also means that GM Mark Atherlay is carrying quite a weight. His voice comes across as more youthful than Todd Haberkorn's did in the previous installment. Our GM also doesn't insert as much of himself into the game as the previous narrator did. He might remark on being at sea or congratulate you on a critical hit or good roll in battle. But I didn't as much get the sense of him as an actual person. Which some people might like! His tone is very immersive for much of the game. I felt as though it was more like playing a game with a narrator, rather than a GM than in the original.

Review: The Forsaken Maiden Shuffles Voice of Cards' Deck

The optional Game Parlor returns too. This is the card game in which you face an AI (or other people locally via the title screen). Your goal is to either match up two-to-three of the same card or create a three-card straight based on ones in your hand and the shared space. The score comes from the value of the cards accumulated in your sets. You can only have three sets total, and the winner is the one with the higher score. It's fine. Especially if you use certain rules. It never feels necessary, but it is a welcome diversion.

What we have here is a situation where everything true about Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars largely remains true about The Forsaken Maiden. The story is different (and engaging), but the mechanics remain largely the same. Which means what might have been an issue before still is now. I think it did a good job of telling its story and getting people to care about the characters. Its tale builds tension well with foreshadowing and asides. Between its use of cards, its narrator, and aesthetic in general, it's pretty great at establishing a mood. If you enjoyed the previous installment, odds are you'll like this one too.

Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC on February 17, 2022.

pokemon tcg live beta canada

Pokemon Trading Card Game Live, the new digital version of the long-running card game, is opening up to beta testers in Canada. The Pokemon TCG Live beta will begin on February 22, 2022. It will be available on iOS, Android, PC, and Mac. The Pokemon TCG Live beta, which The Pokemon Company describes as "limited," will include the Brilliant Stars expansion before the set's official release date.

The game is a replacement for the 11-year-old Pokemon Trading Card Game Online. While PTCGO did see release on tablets, The Pokemon Company and developer Dire Wolf Digital never created a phone version of the game. The Pokemon Company originally planned a beta for the internally-developed follow-up for late 2021, but delayed it to 2022 "to provide Trainers with a more polished experience."

To join the beta, PC and Mac players will need to download the client from the Pokemon site. Mobile players can get the game through the respective app stores. The beta, like the full release, includes cross-platform play. Beta players will still be able to play Pokemon Trading Card Game Online after participating. The full app's release, however, will follow a shutdown and transfer of that game's collection data.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Live will launch as a free-to-play game with no in-app purchases. Players can increase card collections by buying physical packs and redeeming included codes. It's slated for PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices. There's no announced release date.

This will give you the maximum level of one Engraving.   There isn't much more to unlocking Engravings. It's straightforward but time-consuming. The case comes with support for three 2.5-inch and two 3.5-inch drives, and all ca...
