GTA Online's weekly update boosts rewards on freemode events

It's Thursday, gang, and you know what that means. GTA Online's reset day is here, so players are dipping in to see what's new. As always, Rockstar Games will post the full patch notes on the Newswire later on in the day, but the update is already here, so why wait?

The Business Battles and Criminal Damage freemode events offer the biggest rewards boost this week. You can get triple the in-game cash and reputation points for doing them until next Thursday. Meanwhile, the Running Back adversary mode and Last Play contract missions are offering double the standard reward. Finally, the rewards from a series of tasks from The Contract update called Payphone Hits have got a wee boost.

If you're looking for a new set of wheels this week, the GTA Prize Ride is the Sugoi, which you can fetch after placing in the top three of pursuit races for five days in a row. The GTA podium vehicle, meanwhile, is the Flash GT. Head over to the Diamond Casino and take a spin on the wheel to get a chance of winning it.

     Elden Ring bosses guide

Want to know how to beat the Elden Ring bosses? The most defining moments in any of the best Soulslike games are the tough boss fights. They can be tricky for several reasons: some are hard to hit consistently, others can squash you with just one attack. Elden Ring is also an open-world game, so as you'd expect, there are plenty of formidable foes with big health bars waiting to be discovered.

So far, we've managed to find out which bosses are in several regions. Since any region can have up to 19 bosses, keeping track of which ones you've beaten can be tough.

In this guide, you'll find a list of all of the Elden Ring bosses we know of so far, where you can find them, which ones are mandatory, and what items they drop when you beat them. It's worth noting that, generally speaking, as you hunt them down, dungeon bosses are not as hard to kill as the major bosses. However, there are exceptions, so upgrading the Flash of Wondrous Physick with Elden Ring crystal tears can make all the difference.

Oculus Quest 2 update adds Meta logo to VR headset start-up screen

The Oculus Quest 2 is now officially known as the Meta Quest, but remnants of the retired brand are still tethered to the VR headset. While giving existing stock a physical Meta makeover is impractical, the company is reportedly replacing the device's Oculus boot screen logo as part of its metaverse rebranding efforts.

Spotted by UploadVR, the subtle change will arrive alongside system software version 38, and it'll switch out Oculus' iconic oval emblem with Meta's weird-shaped infinity symbol. As with all Oculus Quest 2 updates, the rollout will take place over the next couple of months, meaning the device's digital branding won't be instantly consigned to history.

Longstanding fans of Oculus may be in for a downbeat surprise next time they don their virtual reality goggles, but the decisive update hammers home the fact that the VR brand is no more. Sure, if you buy a Quest 2 right now, it'll still feature the old moniker, but a recent Superbowl ad suggests that future production runs will arrive bearing Meta's new markings.

The best Genshin Impact Kokomi build for 2.5

Want to know what the best Genshin Impact Kokomi build is? Sangonomiya Kokomi will be running alongside Raiden Shogen as part of an upcoming Genshin Impact banner, in the second half of the 2.5 update, so she is in the spotlight once more. While you're busy collecting Kokomi's ascension materials, you may also want help deciding how best to kit her out.

The five-star Hydro catalyst wielder is the leader of the Sangonomiya Resistance and resides on Watatsumi, one of the Inazuma islands introduced in Genshin Impact 2.1. She shares many similarities with Barbara, and is often used as a support character, but there's room for Kokomi to be more than a healer. Kokomi's abilities may surprise people with her potential for elemental skill damage, which scales based on her max health.

She's currently A tier in our Genshin Impact tier list - we think she's highly valuable in the right party. The recent introduction of bleed monsters didn't have the game-changing effect people thought it might, but that doesn't mean healers aren't useful. Read on for our thoughts on the best Kokomi builds.

Elden Ring is one of the funniest games I've ever played

Around 20 hours into Elden Ring, I stumble across a crumbling old church near a lake. Inside, a giant tortoise wearing a papal mitre greets me and teaches me some powerful new sorceries. Just a short ride from the church I see a gigantic lobster. It seems friendly enough, but it's facing away from me, so I get off my horse and approach it on foot. Just as I expect the 'talk' prompt to flash up, it spins around, snatches me up with one pincer, and then repeatedly snips at my face with the other before casting my lifeless body into the murky swamp waters. As everything fades to black and 'You Died' appears on-screen, I let out a chortle that lasts for nearly a minute.

Elden Ring is really, really funny. Sure, the player messages - like signs that point to a tortoise and simply read 'dog' - are good for a titter, but the Lands Between is FromSoft's most overtly funny world to date. It's packed with humorous easter eggs, internal jokes that run for far too long, and comical little embellishments in its monster design.

There are some small spoilers ahead, so if you don't want to hear about any NPCs or enemies then click away, preferably to our Elden Ring review.

Around 20% of all Windows devices are now running Windows 11

Microsoft hasn't had the easiest time pushing Windows 11 over the past five months, but it appears that many are flocking to adopt the latest iteration of the operating system despite its confusing system requirements and various launch issues. In fact, it might soon be the fastest adopted version of Windows ever following a new report.

According to AdDuplex (via Tech Advisor), nearly 20% of all Windows devices are now running Windows 11. This is undoubtedly impressive, but it's worth noting that the company's sample data comes from "around 5,000 Windows Store apps running AdDuplex SDK v.2 (and higher)", which while presumably large isn't definitive.

This is, however, another indication that Windows 11 is proving popular across all types of users, including those with gaming PCs. The January 2022 Steam hardware survey reported that 14% of Steam's player base were running the application on a Windows 11 device, whether that be a desktop system or gaming laptop.

Meet the factions of ELEX II – the Albs and Clerics

Piranha Bytes, the developers of classic RPGs Gothic and Risen are back with a follow-up to their 2017 cult hit ELEX. This open-world RPG returns to the science-fantasy world of Magalan, which has been embroiled in a conflict between its six fearsome factions.

Taking its cues from acclaimed western RPGs like Fallout and The Witcher, the ELEX series fuses post-apocalyptic science-fiction with medieval fantasy in a charming and surprisingly deep narrative that has earned it a cult following. Now, ELEX II is getting ready to launch, continuing the story from a fresh starting point that is welcoming to newcomers. Several years have passed since protagonist Jax fought off forces seeking to exploit the power of the mysterious substance known as ELEX and in that time the world of Magalan has gotten bigger – and more dangerous.

The open-world RPG sees you traversing a post-apocalyptic landscape as you fight to bring peace to the various factions that are locked in perpetual war. There are now six major powers that dominate Magalan – the Albs, Clerics, Berserkers, Morkons, Outlaws, and the new alien threat, the Skyands. To save the world, you'll need to decide which faction to align yourself with, and which to condemn. Players must tread carefully however, as joining one faction may anger another, and Jax will need to bring all of the human factions together to defeat the unknowable threat of the Skyands and save his son Dex.

Red Dead Online gets another month of bounty hunting bonuses

Red Dead Online's monthly event is looking mighty familiar to dedicated fans. Rockstar Games is stuffing March with plenty of rewards and bonuses for bounty hunting content.

Anyone with a bounty hunter licence will get double the in-game cash and reputation points on regular bounties. Legendary and infamous bounties, meanwhile, are paying out triple the usual reward. You can also get five Capitale each week by completing a free roam event. As a wee treat, you're also getting 150 revolver cartridges and a reward for a free honour reset. If you're new, the Bounty Hunter Licence currently has a discount of five gold bars, so now is a good time to pick one up if you haven't already.

Various prizes are available throughout the month, too, if specific requirements are met. You can fetch a 30% discount off a bounty hunter wagon this week by completing two player bounties. Next week you can get a treasure map leading to a "haul under west" by finishing five regular, legendary, or infamous bounties.

Lost Ark devs reveal the March update, but not the roadmap

The first big content update for the Western version of Lost Ark is set to launch this month, and the devs have just revealed the first details on what to expect. We're getting a new story chapter and a new tier of endgame content called Abyss Raids in March, but notably, today's update does not include the roadmap the devs had been teasing in the past week.

Instead, the devs say that "in the near future we'll share a roadmap that covers the top additions coming to Arkesia over the next few months". That roadmap is likely to include new classes - the Korean version of Lost Ark already has several more than the worldwide release - so it's going to be one to watch.

For now, the March content update will include a new story episode letting you "learn more about the Sidereals and search for the legendary Kadan, the first Guardian slayer, in your journey to find the final Ark". You'll need to have completed Feiton and reach item level 1100 to get there.

Total Xbox Console Sales Across All Generations in Japan Are 2.3 Million - 360, One, Series X S

Microsoft always faced an uphill battle with selling Xbox consoles in Japan. Now, we have more information on just how steep that hill is. According to data shared in the most recent issue of Famitsu, total Xbox sales across all console generations in Japan add up to 2,345,975 units as of February 6, 2022. Most of these sales were for the Xbox 360. [Thanks, VGC.]

Here are total lifetime Xbox console sales across all generations in Japan as of February 6, 2022:

  • Xbox – 472,992
  • Xbox 360 – 1,616,128
  • Xbox One – 114,831
  • Xbox Series X|S – 142,024

For reference, more than 5 million units of Nintendo Switch hardware have been sold in Japan to date. Even Sony sold more than a million PS5s in Japan since its launch in November 2020. Xbox leaves a significantly smaller cultural footprint by comparison.

Famitsu further revealed the top five highest-selling games on Xbox consoles. Four of them are role-playing games for Xbox 360, but the top spot is reserved for Dead or Alive 3 on the original Xbox. Dead or Alive 3 from Tomonobu Itagaki and Team Ninja sold 271,149 units. That means 57% of all Xbox owners in Japan owned this game.

Here are the total sales for the highest-selling games on Xbox consoles in Japan to date:

  1. Dead or Alive 3 (Xbox) – 271,149
  2. Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Xbox 360) – 208,521
  3. Tales of Vesperia (Xbox 360) – 204,305
  4. Blue Dragon (Xbox 360) – 203,740
  5. The Last Remnant (Xbox 360) – 154,493

The Xbox Series X and S got off to a stronger start in Japan than Xbox One ever had. 102,591 of them were sold in the first year it launched there.

Elden Ring Sales

According to a report from Famitsu, PS4 and PS5 sales of Elden Ring in Japan have topped 278,507 units. It secured both first and second place for most sales for the week of February 12-27, 2022. [Thanks, Famitsu and Nibel!]

However, FromSoftware has yet to release a statement sharing total sales for the game worldwide. Additionally, this report only accounts for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 copies. It does not include sales of Elden Ring on other platforms.

While highly anticipated, Elden Ring did not arrive without its fair share of bugs
Bandai Namco rolled out several patches, which resolved some issues for users. Patch 1.02.2 included a change to save progression on the PlayStation 5. This has made it so Elden Ring will keep someone's progress even when the game is not properly terminated. This move was made to potentially resolve an issue in which users would lose data to crashes that would happen mid-game. Crashes would include the PlayStation 5 console turning itself off.

Patch 1.0.2 was rolled out ahead of the official release of the game. This patch was meant to solve issues regarding frame drops and certain NPC events.

Elden Ring is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. You can read our review of the PC version, which includes PlayStation 5 impressions.

The Legend of Heroes: Akatsuki no Kiseki removed, leaving consoles Switch & PlayStation PS3 PS4 Vita

The Trails series's free-to-play gacha title, The Legend of Heroes: Akatsuki no Kiseki, has been available on various platforms in Japan. They include PC, mobile devices, and consoles. However, Nihon Falcom and UserJoy Japan will soon remove Akatsuki no Kiseki from consoles. The companies will shut down the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch releases of the game by June 2022. They will keep the PC and mobile versions intact for the foreseeable future.

The Switch version of Akatsuki no Kiseki Mobile will disappear first on April 28, 2022. UserJoy encourages players on the platform to migrate their data to the Android or iOS version so that they can retain all of their collections. Afterward, they can also link their accounts with the PC version on DMM Games.

The PlayStation releases of Akatsuki no Kiseki will be removed on June 15, 2022. Unlike with the mobile version, there will be no available methods for players on these platforms to retain their save data. UserJoy will instead offer them to create a new account on the standalone PC version. After users provide their PlayStation account names by June 15, 2022, the company will grant them bonus support sets on their PC account. The bonuses will include in-game currency and tickets that let them select up to three 5-star characters at will.

The Legend of Heroes: Akatsuki no Kiseki is available on PlayStation 3, 4, and Vita until June 15, 2022. The mobile version is playable on Nintendo Switch until April 28, 2022. After these dates, Akatsuki no Kiseki will be gone from consoles and only available on PC, Android, and iOS devices.

chocobo gp review

Developing a kart racer is hard.

It's forgivable to forget that sometimes! Nintendo often makes it look easy. And… simple? Mario Kart games often feel basic and obvious, fun games for sure but ones that get there through apparent means.

But playing most of the franchise's competitors makes you remember just how much craft and balance you need to make a kart racer work. It's doable, for sure! We've seen that over the years, with releases like Blur and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed giving Nintendo a real run for its money. But more often, a game falls flat despite its best efforts.

So how does Chocobo GP fare?

chocobo gp review

Well it doesn't start from scratch. A sequel to original PlayStation release Chocobo Racing, Chocobo GP builds on that game's foundation. And that PS1-era Final Fantasy influence is clear. Its items are Magicite, with effects that grow if you collect more of the same type before firing. Its cast includes Vivi and Steiner, among mainstay creatures like Moogles. And the game's first "season" additions, Cloud and Squall, show that they're sticking to this time period for a while yet.

The Magicite item system can be an interesting layer to manage. Instead of item boxes, the color-coded pickups come in bronze, silver and gold. Gold is usually the best, giving you two of the same element, but silver guarantees it'll match your last type and is a better choice sometimes. (Bronze is just random, but hey, it's something!)

The selection of attacks does its best to provide rubberbanding without a blue shell. They often benefit players behind you as well as yourself when you use them. For example, color-coded red and blue portals warp you forward on the course, while sometimes allowing others to follow and occasionally catching someone off-guard in front of you and teleporting them the other direction. Character super attacks can put boosts on the board for others, too.

graham is the best driver

This is an interesting idea! And there's a degree to which it works, though it could use some fine-tuning. Like those portals? Sometimes they'll orient poorly and shoot you right off the course or into walls, and you end up further behind than you were. And the well-known Mario Kart phenomenon of a near-endless barrage of items that hit you at the finish line and steal away your victory? Yeah, Chocobo GP has that too, and it in many ways feels worse. Even on a lower difficulty, you can often lead the whole race only to finish 7th because of the severity of attacks and recovery time afterward.

So how is the driving? And how are the tracks? The answer is… fine? Chocobo GP recycles environments to provide a few variations of tracks, a reasonable use of development resources that inevitably leads things to feel a bit samey. And it does feel like it could benefit from locales that were a bit more on-the-nose references to classic Final Fantasy.

The driving feels a bit floaty at times, but it's tolerable enough. The main element holding it back? Control options. Chocobo GP offers three configurations in the options menu, but all of them map acceleration to the Switch's tiny shoulder bumpers and none of them let you really utilize the much larger and more comfortable triggers instead. It's weird! And something you might expect from a multiplatform port designed for a different gamepad layout. (This can, and should, be addressed in a patch. We hope.)

chocobo gp ticket shop

The structure of Chocobo GP is a bit strange, making us think that it may have moved back and forth between a paid release and a free-to-play title in development. At release, there's a "lite" version that can join local multiplayer and participate in the 64-player GP mode. Upgrading to the full release gets you a larger suite of options, a story campaign and more characters.

We weren't able to test GP before launch — it really does require that many players — but it's billed as the main attraction of the game and clearly attempting to capitalize on the battle royale trend. The top four players in an eight-person race continue up the ladder, with a final round determining the overall winner. We were, though, able to test the game's multiplayer connections with individual and circuit races, and didn't experience hiccups. Which is a good sign! But we'd still expect the usual crowding problems around launch day.

That story mode, though! Hey, let's talk about that for a minute. Have kart racer story modes ever been particularly successful? There's something about the randomness of item hits, especially in Chocobo GP, that make strict success-failure conditions more frustrating than fun. You can turn down the difficulty and push through to unlock most of the characters and rewards, so it's tolerable. But there's a reason Mario Kart hasn't gone down this path.

chocobo gp review

The visuals of Chocobo GP are fine, if unspectacular. Its interfaces do feel a bit like a cheaper mobile game at times? But it's tolerable. The soundtrack is also mostly fine, with one huge exception: its menu theme. Rarely have we encountered a song as annoying as this one, with inane lyrics that mostly just list character names. Please add an option to pick another song, Square Enix.

Chocobo GP fares better than most Mario Kart competitors, delivering a rough-around-the-edges experience that's still fundamentally fun most of the time. Its weaknesses and frustrations, though — combined with the incoming deluge of new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tracks — will likely limit its audience.

Chocobo GP is launching March 10, 2022 on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, March 3, 2022 9:45 AM
Fifa Russian Teams Banned Mbappe Van DijkYesterday Electronic Arts posted a statement on Twitter regarding its stance on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Moving forward, all Russian clubs and teams will be removed from two of its most popular sports lineups: FIFA and NHL. This decision was made to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, like with other attempts, possibly to pressure Russia into ending the war. Furthermore, Russian and Belarusian clubs and teams will be removed from NHL 22 within the coming weeks. In EA's message, this is in response to the International Ice Hockey Federation banning these teams from competing. Belarus is an active ally of Russia, and is understood to be assisting in its invasion of Ukraine. A similar decision is not necessary for FIFA 22, as the Belarusian Premier League was already not represented.   EA's removal of Russian teams from FIFA is not surprising. Just a few days prior, both the FIFA organization itself and the administrative body for European footbal...
