I should know better by now; I should expect that anyone I meet in Elden Ring will either straight-up suck or have some kind of tragic storyline that will desiccate my bones in existential dread.      Genshin Impact Hues of the Violet Garden event guide

Want to know about the Hues of the Violet Garden event in Genshin Impact? This new event series lands during the 2.6 update, about a week after the Ayato banner. It features a series of new and returning mini-games that will let you earn rewards like primogems and ascension materials, culminating in a chance to get a free Genshin Impact character.

The Genshin Impact Hues of the Violent Garden event features four sub-events which are unlocked in sequence, each providing very different experiences - from floral arrangements, to one-on-one sword duels where you're not able to use your elemental abilities. After you successfully complete all four of the events and reach "certain criteria", you can recruit Hydro swordsman Xingqiu to your team for free.

As always, in order to participate you'll have to meet certain entry criteria, although there's a new option for players that can bypass some of this. Read on to find out everything you need to know about this new Genshin Impact event and what the festivities entail.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU reviews round-up

After a small delay, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is finally here to bring home the title of the best graphics card to team green. It's the company's most powerful pixel pusher to date, but you'll need to fork over a pretty penny to pick it up, as its $2,000 USD price tag means it costs as much as an entire gaming PC.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti wields the full power of the GA102 GPU die, boasting impressive specs such as 10,752 CUDA cores and a factory boost clock of 1.86GHz. Given how powerful the apex Ampere graphics card is, it has no trouble driving the best gaming monitors, regardless of their resolution or refresh rate.

However, some enthusiasts might find the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti's performance levels disappointing, as it only offers a 10%-ish leap over the RTX 3090. You'll also have to contend with a dongle spoiling your case's aesthetic unless you upgrade to one of the best power supplies, as it's the first GPU to feature the new PCIe Gen5 16-pin power connector.

Stardew Valley fan proposes with wholesome pop-up book

A Stardew Valley fan has proposed to his girlfriend on their fifth anniversary with a beautifully crafted pop-up book. You can file this one under epic boyfriend - or, perhaps we should now say fiancé - wins.

The now-betrothed Stardew Valley fan has shared the cute creation on the game's subreddit, making for some wholesome viewing. Of course, the cover is Stardew Valley's opening screen with a pointer hovering over the co-op button. The rest of the pages sum up their time together with a Stardew spin. You've got a save file as old as their time together, an anniversary note written in the style of a quest, and various pop-up pages that recall memories.

The wonderfully named Goop explains that putting all of this together took patience, some YouTube videos, and oodles of printer ink. "I drew out my ideas for the book with pencil first, then through a combination of assets I found online, screenshots I took from the game, and hand-drawn elements, I made the individual pages, printed, glued and bound them together," they explain.

Guilty Gear Strive DLC fighter out now is a non-binary Death

The latest Guilty Gear Strive DLC fighter is now available, and it brings a non-binary character voiced by a trans woman to one of the best fighting games on PC. Testament is described as an "elegant Grim Reaper" and is available now, either separately or as part of the season pass.

Testament is a popular Death-like character in the Guilty Gear series, who originally appeared in the first game back in 1998 as a boss character and has made recurring appearances ever since - although, it has to be said, rarely on PC.

Now Testament is available in Guilty Gear Strive as the anime game's fifth new DLC fighter. They can either be picked up separately for $6.99 / £5.99 or as part of the Season 1 pass - Testament is likely the final part of this pass, which includes five new characters. Arc System Works has already confirmed a Season 2 pass, and it could get more - Street Fighter V had multiple seasons, for example.

Minecraft trident: enchantments, recipe, and how to farm

The Minecraft trident has been in Minecraft Java Edition since the Aquatic update (Java Edition 1.13) as a rare drop from Drowned enemies. The trident is easily one of the best Minecraft weapons as not only can it be used in melee and ranged combat, but even its non-enchanted form can dish out more than a diamond sword, although its attack speed is a little lower. Plus, if you work on your aim you can throw a trident up to 80 blocks away.

You cannot craft a Minecraft trident, so you can't actually find a recipe for this underwater weapon. Instead, you'll need to grab one of these from the cold, dead, soggy hands of a Drowned mob, one of the new zombies introduced with the Aquatic update.

The fact that the trident is a mob drop and as powerful as a diamond sword makes it an excellent weapon early into your Minecraft adventure, provided you're strong enough to take out a Drowned. Below we'll walk you through how to get your own Minecraft trident, as well as what Minecraft enchantments you can upgrade it with.

Minecraft shields: recipe, enchantments, and how to block

Want to learn how to create and customise your Minecraft shields? Shields are a state of the art defensive tool to aid in pixelated combat, used instead of blocking with swords. Minecraft shields are not upgradable, so it's one size fits all, but they can be customised using a Minecraft banner.

Minecraft shields will completely negate all front-facing attacks of up to four damage, with the shield taking damage equal to the strength of the attack if the incoming attack exceeds that value. Minecraft shields can be used to deflect some incoming attacks, including arrows that will ricochet and deal damage back at the enemy who fired it, and melee combat which will knock an enemy backwards.

All non-damage effects through a ranged attack, such as being set on fire or poisoned by an arrow, are prevented when blocking with the shield. Knockback from melee attacks or projectiles is negated, except explosions, which are reduced to one block or less. Find out how to create, customise, and enchant your shield in Minecraft with these handy tips.

Any players who log in to Warframe today can get the cool Wisp Dex Skin you can see in the header above and the ninth-anniversary artwork, as well as a weapon, slot, and cosmetic accessory. There's even a separate DLC for the Steam version with a Lex pistol, slot, and weapon skin.

The best Genshin Impact Aloy build

Looking for the best Genshin Impact Aloy build? As of Genshin Impact 2.2, Aloy can be unlocked for free regardless of what platform you play on. The only thing you need to do is reach Adventure Rank 20 - once you do, Aloy should appear in your in-game mail.

Aloy is a Cryo bow user who plays similarly to Yoimiya, which is potentially a positive thing depending on who you ask… at least she's entirely free! The community's expectations for Aloy aren't high because she doesn't seem like a traditional five-star character. Base stats usually separate five-star characters from four-star characters, but Aloy seems to be a five-star name only, similar to the Traveler.

Despite Aloy's seemingly unimpressive stats, she is capable of stealing a spot in your party if you have the right equipment. Aloy's area-of-effect elemental burst can be utilised by most teams thanks to its freezing effect, so it's definitely worth giving her a try. Here's everything you need to create the best Genshin Impact Aloy build.

Everything you need to know about Minecraft frogs

Looking for more info on Minecraft frogs? Mojang announced the arrival of these cute little critters at Minecraft Live 2021, alongside more information about the next big Minecraft update, called The Wild update. The Wild update will be update 1.19, and follows the second part of the Caves and Cliffs update, otherwise known as the Minecraft 1.18 update.

The Wild introduces a new biome to the open world game, called the mangrove swamp. In the mangrove swamp, mangrove trees grow from propagules you can plant both in water or on land. You can chop down mangrove trees for a new type of wood, and they are a particularly distinctive shape - their roots branch out in arches into their surroundings.

Another upcoming feature in The Wild update is the addition of tiny little fireflies that hover around swamp biomes, shimmering in the dark - and occasionally becoming tasty snacks for the frogs that hop around nearby. Here's everything we know about Minecraft frogs, including information on all the frog variants and where to find frogs in Minecraft.

Minecraft glow squid – how to make glowing signs

Want to know where the glow squids are in Minecraft? One of the newer Minecraft mobs, the glow squid arrived in the Minecraft 1.17 update. It's a variant on the regular squid that, aside from its sparkly appearance, doesn't really do much except look pretty. They bimble along without a care in the world, well, that is until you accidentally hit them like the monster you are.

Minecraft glow squids are worth tracking down, qw these jazzy cephalopods drop glow ink sacs. These sacs only really have a couple of cosmetic uses, mostly illuminating text on signs. Nevertheless, the effect does make the text stand out, particularly useful if some hooligan mob somehow dislodges your torches. In any case, there's nothing wrong with a sparkly sign.

So if you really want to get your hands on the glow ink sacs, we'll tell you where to go to find the Minecraft glow squids, how you can use the glow ink sacs on your signs, and how to change them back to normal if you tire of their glowing effect.

Genshin Impact 2.6 release time – Ayato banner starts soon

The Genshin Impact 2.6 release time for the Zephyr of the Violet Garden update is nearly here, which means you can wish on the Ayato banner soon. The new kid on the block is the headline attraction of the next patch, though you've also got a Venti banner rerun to look forward to alongside a new area called the Chasm to explore. While that's all exciting, you'll want to do some preparation to play the anime game's next update right away.

Mihoyo confirms that Genshin Impact's 2.6 update pre-loads are live, so you have everything you need to prepare for the new wave of content. Pre-installing updates is a doddle, thankfully. Open the launcher once it's updated, and you should find a 'game pre-installation' option where the 'launch' button used to be. Mihoyo advises that using the pre-installation function can "speed up the update progress of the launcher during version updates".

The good news is that you can still play Genshin Impact while pre-installing game resources. Mihoyo says that pre-loading the update takes up a certain amount of your network's bandwidth, so it's worth checking out your connection quality before deciding if you fancy doing it.

League of Legends patch 12.6 notes – Hecarim nerfs, Anima Squad skins

The League of Legends updates are coming thick and fast. LoL patch 12.5 has hit the live server, introducing a wonderful selection of bee-inspired skins to the MOBA. Don't bee-lieve for one second, though, that's all we got. Riot has tweaked Master Yi and Seraphine with some solid changes, while several other LoL champs got some quality-of-life adjustments, too.

Now, though, it's time to look toward LoL patch 12.6. We're sticking with the animal theme this time around as the new Anima Squad skins have hit the PBE. If you've been out of the loop, a few champions - such as Vayne, Miss Fortune, and Jinx - are getting some punky skins themed around bats, bunnies, cats, and more. You can check out the in-game clips of these in action and their splash art in the skins section below.

We're a good bit into the patch cycle, so have a decent idea about what champion changes are coming our way. Keep checking in, though, as we'll keep this post regularly updated.

Sony today announced they're overhauling PlayStation Now, their subscription service which lets us play some older PlayStation games on PC via cloud gaming. They're merging it with their PlayStation Plus service and adding a giant library of games as some sort of multi-tiered mega-Game Pass doodad. It's not clear how exactly this will change things for people who are already using PS Now to play PlayStation games on PC, but it sounds like maaaybe they'll add Marvel's Spider-Man, at least? For now, they're vague about the whole thing.

There sure are a lot of "world's fastest" gaming CPUs around these days. Just two weeks after AMD confirmed a date and price for their own champion, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Intel have formally unveiled the Core i9-12900KS: a new addition to the 12th Gen Alder Lake lineup that promises superlative performance and up to 5.5GHz clock speeds.

That's all less than five months since the launch of the original Intel Core i9-12900K, which as far as I can tell actually is the best CPU for gaming right now in pure performance terms. It all started going wrong when I died taking on the old McDuckitt job. In Abermore, you play as a thief making a name for themselves in its titular city. Every day you wake up, leave your apartment and hit the streets, chatting to the locals, picking up a bit of info, even gambling a bit. The folks you meet are from the shadier side of society and they'll hire you for jobs. Sometimes it's simple burglary, sometimes it's breaking a vase, or snatching a specific bit of loot. There's even a guy who keeps trying to offer me wet work! It all boils down to the same thing though: sneaking around some rich guy's place, disabling the security, avoiding or taking down the occupants, and getting out without being caught. Afterwards, I fence the loot and head to bed.

It's all building up to Abermore's central heist: The Feast of the Lucky Few. It's also my only chance to rescue the famous Hanged Man, a dame I met on the boat over here. They're the thief of thieves! A living legend! But the tyrant king grabbed her before we got ashore and she'll be executed in eighteen days if I don't break her out. That's eighteen nights to prepare, eighteen jobs to build the resources, the connections I need for the heist of a life time. A terrible shame, then, that alarm bells started ringing almost as soon as I started playing.

PS Plus Tiers

The rumored relaunch of Sony's subscription service is nigh. A new entry on the PlayStation Blog detailed how PS Plus is changing. From June 2022 forward, PS Plus will offer tiers of service. The basic version starts with what all current subscribers get now. Newly-added tiers will cost more and add features folded in from the PlayStation Now, Sony's game streaming and download service. PS Now was previously a separate subscription. It will be folded into PS Plus after the relaunch.

Sony is relaunching the service with three PS Plus tiers: PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Premium.

The first tier, Essential, is the same as PS Plus now. It will provide the same offerings as before:

  • Cloud saves
  • Online multiplayer
  • Exclusive discounts
  • Two monthly downloadable games

It will cost $9.99 USD monthly in North America, with quarterly and yearly options that reduce the monthly outlay.

The second tier is called PS Plus Extra. It includes all the benefits from Essential, then adds a library of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games to download. The games range from indie hits to major first- and third-party releases. The Extra tier costs $14.99 USD monthly. There will be similar discounts for players that pick the quarterly and yearly options.

Finally, the most expensive of the tiers is PS Plus Premium. Premium folds in everything from the previous two levels and adds more games. Among them are retro titles. It includes:

  • PS3 games via PS Now's streaming
  • Cloud streaming access for the game library offered in all three tiers on PS4, PS5, and PC
  • Downloadable titles from the PS1, PS2, and PSP generations
  • Time-limited game trials for "select games"

The PS Plus Premium tier costs $17.99 monthly. As before, quarterly and yearly pricing options will reduce the rate.

Sony noted that some countries do not offer cloud streaming options. For those markets, a reduced-price "PS Plus Deluxe" tier will be available. As for existing PS Now subscribers, they'll be migrated to PS Plus Premium automatically "with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch."

Regarding launch timing and regions, Sony said that the new PS Plus tiers would begin a "phased launch" in Asia in June 2022. North America, Europe, and the rest of the world will follow. Sony will migrate most PlayStation Network territories by the end of the first half of 2022. Cloud streaming services are also due to expand to more territories than currently offered. Which means more customers will be able to select the PS Plus Premium tier upon launch.

Sony didn't specify exactly which games would be included for each of the PS Plus tiers. It did note that a number of major titles would be in the library at launch, including Death Stranding, God of War, both Marvel's Spider-Man titles, Returnal, and Mortal Kombat 11. The library will be "regularly refreshed," with new content and games added. In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said that new first-party games would not be added to subscribers' libraries "day-and-date," meaning that the newest major releases from Sony-owned studios will still be sold separately from the PS Plus subscription. He was, however, open to that situation changing.

Sony will relaunch its PS Plus service starting in June 2022. The March 2022's PS Plus games are available until April 4, 2022.

Jim Ryan Says First-Party, Day One PlayStation Plus Release Don't Make Any Sense

Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan spoke to GamesIndustry.biz about PlayStation Plus and its games alongside the announcement of the services new tiers. As part of that conversation, he went over the possibility of Sony first-party games appearing on the service at launch. He suggested the "virtuous cycle will be broken" if that happens and "doesn't make any sense." However, Ryan also acknowledged that his thoughts and Sony's plans could change. [Thanks, GamesIndustry.biz!]

When discussing the possibility, Ryan initially said that it isn't something Sony's done in the past and there are no plans for it going forward. He then explained why Sony has the mindset of not releasing first-party games on PlayStation Plus at launch. As part of that, he claimed people who play PS4 and PS5 games wouldn't want that.

We feel if we were to do that with the games that we make at PlayStation Studios, that virtuous cycle will be broken. The level of investment that we need to make in our studios would not be possible, and we think the knock-on effect on the quality of the games that we make would not be something that gamers want.

After that, Ryan did admit to GamesIndustry.biz that things could change. He went on to explain.

All I'm talking to today is the approach we're taking in the short term. The way our publishing model works right now, it doesn't make any sense. But things can change very quickly in this industry, as we all know.

One of the most recent first-party game releases on PlayStation Plus was the standalone version of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. It appeared on the service back in March 2022.

Berserk Guts Berserker Armor Bloody Nightmare statue by Prime 1 Studio

A new statue of Guts, the protagonist of Berserk, will appear in limited numbers. Prime 1 Studio has opened pre-orders for the Guts Berserker Armor Bloody Nightmare statue. This elaborate statue will have the blood-soaked protagonist resting atop defeated monsters with his signature armor.

The package will come with swappable alternative heads and arms. The head options will let the user switch between a full-covering helmet and another version that shows Guts' mouth. The alternate arms will change the sword's position, from stabbing the ground to resting on Guts' shoulder. When the sword is in the latter position, the overall height of the 1/4 scale statue will reach 95 cm / 37 inches.

[gallery columns="1" ids="922026" link="file"]

The Berserker Guts Berserk statue is available for $1,299, but Prime 1 Studio will only produce 750 units of the product. It offers payments in multiple installments via PayPal, up to eight times. Regardless of the chosen installment option, the buyer will first make a non-refundable deposit of $129.90.

Prime 1 Studio had previously released Berserk statues of Guts in his initial attire, but these statues are already sold out. In May 2020, it opened pre-orders for statues modeled after Casca in her Golden Age arc costume. As of this writing, Casca's statue pages still show a "Waitlist Full" mark instead of "Sold Out."

New kinds of Berserk merchandise still show up even after the manga's original creator Kentaro Miura died in May 2021. Earlier in March 2022, SuperGroupies opened pre-orders for Berserk watches designed after Guts and Griffith.

Prime 1 Studio will ship the Berserk Guts Berserker Armor Bloody Nightmare statue between November 2022 and January 2023.

Final Fantasy XIV New Area

In an interview with Famitsu, the Final Fantasy XIV development team hinted at a new area that could appear in future content updates. Final Fantasy XIV Lead Scenario Designer Natsuko Ishikawa mentioned that she wanted to include this specific line that suggested players would be introduced to a new area. Producer Naoki Yoshida reiterated in the interview that the story of Final Fantasy XIV isn't complete, despite the saga of Zodiark and Hydaelyn coming to a close. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Lead Scenario Designer Banri Oda also revealed that there is an entire continent in Final Fantasy XIV players have yet to visit:

There is another continent players haven't had the chance to visit. When preparing for Endwalker, I drew an entire map of the world because I had to prepare for a scene of a certain character looking up from the Moon.

In the interview, Meracydia is brought up as a place that has yet to be explored. Oda mentioned that due to the nature of Final Fantasy XIV being an MMORPG, there should be a feeling that the adventure hasn't ended.

Regarding story content, Yoshida stated that he doesn't want the scale of the story to increase with every expansion. Instead, he is using the finale of Endwalker as the catalyst for upcoming story content, as explained below.

Editor's Note: The next paragraph has major spoilers for Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker.

There are many different shards after all, and if we decide to pull from the multiverse, anything is possible... In previous Final Fantasy titles we've fought against the "void" and "nothingness," so the possibilities are endless. However, since we fought against the manifestation of despair, I don't believe the next antagonist should necessarily have to one-up the previous one. Or that the story has to have a larger scale. Zenos brought the player back to their "adventurer" roots in that final scene, and I think we should focus more on that aspect.

While information concerning Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.1 was revealed during a previous broadcast, which teased new main scenario quests, a second broadcast will be held on April 1, 2022 containing further information.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.1 will release sometime in mid-April 2022.

FFXIV Endwalker Remote Development

In an interview with Famitsu, Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) Producer Naoki Yoshida discussed the development of the Endwalker expansion. This included detailing some of the difficulties of developing Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker during the ongoing situation with COVID-19. Additionally, he opened up concerning server congestion, the Metacritic score for FFXIV Endwalker, and how he believes these two things are tied together. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Final Fantasy XIV Lead Story Designers Banri Oda and Natsuko Ishikawa also spoke briefly about the reception to Endwalker. Both Ishikawa and Oda are thankful that players chose to refrain from posting major spoilers on social media. However, Ishikawa feels as though it would have been fun to see reception to the narrative while the "conversation was still hot." That said, all three developers appreciate that most players seemed to abide by the request not to share major spoilers.

Further on in the interview, FFXIV Producer Naoki Yoshida elaborated on some of the development struggles of Endwalker. He used developing the fight with Zodiark as an example of some of the struggles the team went through as they adapted to working remotely. Yoshida explained that the reason some of these challenges didn't happen before was because the team was located on the same floor, and they could easily exchange opinions or give criticism:

Even if you can check the material, there are some unique problems that arise from working strictly online. For example, there can be difficulties when checking quality when using screensharing. And it does take a lot of time to record and upload the data. This is unavoidable when working remotely, and I had to rethink the workflow for FFXIV because we moved to a new development style.

Regarding the Metacritic score, Yoshida said he noticed that there had been some negative reception among users. He believes that the server congestion attributed to some of those low user scores and wonders if, were that not an issue, the expansion would have been even more favorably received among its player base.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Soul Hackers 2 Summoners Guide Sabbath demon summoning Commander Skills

Atlus released the first Soul Hackers 2 Summoners Guide video, which outlines the game's new and returning mechanics such as Sabbath demon summoning and Commander Skills. In addition to new combat gameplay footage, the video explains how players can take full advantage of enemy weaknesses and abilities. Furthermore, the video dives into Arrow's relationship with Raven and Kaburagi.

The Soul Hackers 2 Summoners Guide video starts off by explaining the key concepts behind the Sabbath, an all-out demon summoning attack that Ringo can trigger at the end of each turn. Each enemy will have resistances and weaknesses, similar to combat in the Persona series.

Players can deal greater damage and build up "stacks" through the use of different types of attacks. The more stacks you build up, the stronger the Sabbath attack will be at the end of the turn. Specifically, players can build up to 16 stacks for maximum damage output. By summoning a demon with a "Tandem Skill," players can also add other effects such as healing allies or adding status ailments to the Sabbath attack.

To further take advantage of the Sabbath mechanic, Ringo has various skills that can help optimize stack building. These Commander Skills can do anything in Soul Hackers 2 from increase the number of times allies can attack in a given turn, to change out the demons in your party without spending an action point. However, Commander Skills will also have cooldown timers once used.

You can check out the full Soul Hackers 2 Summoners Guide video with English subtitles below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tabkwW1JLx4

Aside from some notable details about Arrow's background and relationships, the video gives fans a brief glimpse of the character's combat abilities. Notably, Arrow will mainly use firearm-type COMPs. Additionally, Arrow will boast ice-based skills and support abilities. One example shown in the video has Arrow buff an ally with increased ice resistance.

Soul Hackers 2 will release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on August 25, 2022 in Japan and globally on August 26, 2022.
