Steam update makes it easier to claim free games and DLC

If you love to get free games on Steam, a new Steam update has just made the process of claiming free-to-play games and free DLC add-ons a little easier. The new addition may not sound like much at first, but it makes building up that backlog pile in your Steam library much smoother, meaning you can commit to even more games that you know, in your heart of hearts, that you probably don't have time to get around to.

The new update adds a blue "Add to Library" button to free games and DLC next to the usual green "Install Game," "Play Game," or "Download" buttons that appeared previously. This means that you can now quickly add the free content to your Steam library without having to kick off the installation process. Previously, the method to claim free games required you to start the installation process - you could cancel the installation afterwards and the game would remain on your account, but it was nevertheless a hassle, so this is a welcome quality of life change.

Similarly, this makes picking up free DLC and add-ons for your games smoother - ordinarily, many games automatically launch when you attempt to claim free DLC. This is perhaps an even more useful change in this case, because many games such as Dying Light 2 and Monster Hunter: World that have offered numerous free add-ons split up into separate Steam store listings would launch the game every time you wanted to add one of them to your account.

playstation plus august

The PlayStation Blog has revealed the free games that those with a PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium subscription can get for August. These games will appear on August 16, 2022 for players at the appropriate tier. There will be a total of eleven games that will be available, with three Yakuza games as the main highlights.

The PlayStation Plus games for August are:

  • Yakuza 0
  • Yakuza Kiwami
  • Yakuza Kiwami 2
  • Dead by Daylight
  • Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands
  • Bugsnax
  • Metro Exodus
  • Trials of Mana
  • UNO
  • Monopoly Madness
  • Monopoly Plus

As previously announced, the Yakuza titles added to the game catalog puts most of the Kiryu Saga in reach of PS Plus Extra and Premium members. In terms of chronology, Yakuza 0 is the first game of Kiryu's saga, whereas Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the first game in the series. Its sequel, Yakuza Kiwami 2, takes place directly after the previous one, using gameplay and graphical enhancements developed for Yakuza 6. It also features Goro Majima as a playable character, similar to how he is in 0. This is something exclusive to the Kiwami version of the game and not in the original. Yakuza 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be added to the PS Plus game catalog at a later date.

Meanwhile, two of the titles are multiplayer experiences. Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game. Players can choose to play as Survivor or Killer. There are plenty of perks to customize your character, as well as costumes to run around in style. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is a similarly multiplayer experience, allowing you to create a team of up to 3 players. While there is a PvP aspect to it, you can also play it in cooperative PvE.

Finally, Bugsnax is the least intense game of August's catalog. You explore an island in order to catch Bugsnax, which are a mix of bugs and snacks. There are a total of 100 species of Bugsnax species that you can capture.

The August catalog of games will debut on August 16, 2022 for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members.
