Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB GPU performance falls behind the 16GB model

The Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB is currently the cheapest graphics card in the GeForce RTX 4000 series to be formally announced by the company, alongside the more expensive RTX 4080 16GB and the RTX 4090. While you'd be forgiven for presuming that the only difference between the two RTX 4080 models is the amount of VRAM that each has, it appears that one card packs more performance and beefier specs than the other.

Scorn might be a great Alien game, but more scares please

I just played half an hour of Scorn, the upcoming horror game with Alien written all over it, and not much happened. It takes some serious gall to present a horror game demo without a scary set piece or jumpscare, and as a teaser Scorn mostly pulls it off.

It opens with you being born in some kind of biomechanical factory. Your joints crack and crunch into place as you slide an umbilical cord out of your stomach. Looking down you can see your body is a stitched-together mass of grey, wet flesh. Every limb reveals uncomfortable-looking contortions: tendons appear more like hydraulic pistons, bones are barely hidden under the skin, threatening to pop out at any moment, and there's a gruesome case of hangnail on every finger.

Apex Legends season 15 release date, new legend, and map details

The Apex Legends season 15 release date is on the horizon, and it seems like it'll be bringing a brand new legend, map, and heirloom with it. The battle royale game has been going from strength to strength as it continues to add more content each season. Loba's Apex Legends heirloom looked set to launch with season 15, but we have confirmation that it's heading to the Beast of Prey collection event instead. This means that there are seven legends that could receive an heirloom in the next big update.

The last season of the year tends to be the most exciting, with the previous three introducing a brand new map to the game. Judging by the datamined leaks we've seen, season 15 is going to continue this trend. Here's everything we know about the latest season so far, including who the next legend is, where the new map is based, and much more.

Nvidia RTX 4080 – release date, price, specs, and benchmarks

The Nvidia RTX 4080 is now officially a thing, and could be the best graphics card money can buy. While it won't beat the flagship RTX 4090, the RTX 3080 successor should still offer enthusiast levels of performance that stretch beyond the boundaries of mid-tier options.

We now know two RTX 4080 models are on the way, thanks to a GTC keynote reveal by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. While the 12GB model should appeal to gamers on a budget, a 16GB variant will help enthusiasts achieve higher resolutions using the best gaming monitor.

The best way I can explain the difference between Devil Daggers and its surprise sequel is comparison to another pair of goth-o-ramas: Devil Daggers is Dark Souls to Hyper Demon's Bloodborne. Both first-person score attack shooters are dressed in similar beautiful cloaks of skulls and gurgling industrial soundscapes, but while Devil Daggers nudges you into cautious survival, Hyper Demon shoves you into aggression. In Hyper Demon, a long and cautious run will likely score lower than a short burst of ultraviolence. What glorious ultraviolence it is!

When I first saw Hyper Demon's trailer, I felt excitement, wonder, and fear. Here's the important thing to realise: the unearthly and incomprehensible violence you see in that trailer is genuinely what the game looks like to play. That's how it feels to play, too.

Of all the games I sampled at this year's Gamescom, Scorn surprised me the most. For whatever reason, I was expecting this survival horror adventure to ditch spookiness for kookiness, perhaps rattling my bones with hyper-violence and monsoons of crimson.

Nope - the game wasn't what I expected at all. At least, not the 45-minute portion I got to play. Rather, my demo was more of a hardcore puzzler with some exploration elements and the teeniest smattering of action. Don't get me wrong, it was still unsettling and grotesque! Just in more of a brain-training way, if the brain-training was for MIT graduates, or like, the human calculators on University Challenge.

The Diofield Chronicle

The DioField Chronicle is fast approaching its release date of September 22, 2022. Ahead of that day, Square Enix released a behind-the-scenes look at the game's music.

The game features a fully orchestrated soundtrack, and the interview focuses on the game's composers, Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell.

In the interview, Djawadi and Campbell spoke about how music from a game can stick with a player long after the game ends, and about their process with composing for The DioField Chronicle. They spoke about suiting the composition to the needs of the game's setting. One thing that Campbell found fun was being given the freedom to write "big orchestral pieces" not tied with raising the drama of a specific scene, but of the whole game's diversity of moods.

Ramin Djawadi is best known for his work composing for films and television. He composed for series like HBO's Game of Thrones, and Westworld, and for films like Marvel's Iron Man and Eternals, Pacific Rim, and The Great Wall.

Brandon Campbell is a frequent collaborator with Djawadi, and in addition to helping score The DioField Chroncile, co-composed music for Amazon's New World online RPG. He also worked on the music for Pacific Rim: The Black (the animated Pacific Rim spin-off), Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, and the live-action Warcraft film. In 2021 Campbell won a Daytime Emmy Award for Music Direction and Composition for a Drama Series, thanks to his work on Netflix's The Letter for the King.

The DioField Chronicles releases on September 22, 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A playable demo is available now. Check out Siliconera's preview of the game for more about how it plays.

kyle mccarley mob psycho 100 union crunchyroll

Kyle McCarley, the English voice actor of Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama in Mob Psycho 100, may not reprise his role for season 3. This is due to an ongoing disagreement in regards to union contracts with Crunchyroll. In an update that Crunchyroll sent to Kotaku, it said that it will "recast some roles." This implies that Crunchyroll has chosen to move forth with the dub without McCarley.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHYWLTrBVlk

McCarley is a member of the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Because of that, he states that it is important to him that all of his work is under a union contract. However, he expressed his willingness to work non-union on Mob Psycho 100 on the condition that Crunchyroll would then meet with SAG-AFTRA representatives. The goal of that meeting would have been to negotiate contracts for future productions. Crunchyroll told him that it would not agree to those terms. It was firm on that stance even after McCarley emphasizes that it would only be a meeting.

He emphasizes that his goal is not money. He has revealed that Crunchyroll offered him the same amount a union contract would get him. Instead, he wants to help and protect other voice actors. Unions can help to protect performers from excessive screaming or shouting, which can damage vocal chords. They can also help to give workers more bargaining power, along with a baseline minimum for everyone involved.

In a response sent to Kotaku, Crunchyroll acknowledged that it was producing the English-language dub for the series at its Dallas production studios, and that "to accomplish this seamlessly per our production and casting guidelines, we will need to recast some roles."

Mob Psycho 100 season 3 will air in Japan and on Crunchyroll from October 5, 2022. It will simulcast both the original Japanese and the English-dubbed versions as episodes air in Japan. However, it is unlikely that Kyle McCarley will come back in Mob Psycho 100 as Mob.

Mob Psycho 100 is readily available on streaming services such as Crunchyroll.

Evil West Preview 3At first glance, Evil West looks a lot like Remnant: From the Ashes. It's a third-person shooter built around dodging and using abilities that are on a cooldown, so that comparison doesn't seem like much of a reach. In practice, though, it definitely feels like its own thing. The game comes out this November and I got to take an early crack at one of the levels. The game takes a bit of getting used to, but I'm definitely more interested now than I was before. And I was interested before. I mean, over-the-top demon-hunting game with a Western aesthetic? Yes, please! The build of Evil West that I played offered a single mission that's a bit deeper into the campaign than I expected. Due to this, I don't really know who the characters are or what they're trying to accomplish beyond a surface-level understanding. Jesse is a demon-hunting cowboy of some sort.
