Dwarf Fortress is a game that over the last two decades has been both misunderstood and perhaps overly understood, a seemingly-impenetrable exercise in crafting, survival and terrible visuals. And next month, a very different Dwarf Fortress will be made available on Steam.

These Cyberpunk 2077 vehicle mods add Top Gear to Night City

Cars in Night City work on a pretty straightforward principle: you press forward, and they go. However, you can add some nuance to this with a set of Cyberpunk 2077 vehicle mods that inject a truckload of math into the way vehicles accelerate and handle, giving the Top Gear treatment to the sci-fi RPG game.

The best FM23 wonderkids and young players

FM23 wonderkids aren't your average young player, they're the cream of the crop. While still younger than 21, they often have the current ability to compete with the average top division player and have a potential so high that it would make any Champions League team blush. However, because of this, they can often cost you tens of millions in the management game, although if you're smart you might be able to pick yourself up a bargain. If you're looking to build a team for the future in FM23 and don't mind developing these players, then you might bag yourself a future club legend.

     The best FM23 free agents

Unearthing the best FM23 free agents is a key part of the game, whether your club has little to no budget, or you just love a bargain. Free agents are often ageing legends of the game (the oldest one on a large database is 55), or players who slipped out of football from big academies, so you can often find talent hiding away unattached in the football game. You won't find the games top wonderkids, but there are some real free hidden gems available in Football Manager 2023, who you could even play and then sell on for pure profit.

The revamped scouting centre in the management game has made it easier than ever to find free agents. In the 'players in range' section, you can do a new search and sort by unattached or expired contract statuses to find . A simple filter is the 'interested in transfer' checkbox, to give you a list of realistic matches, and then you can sort by the world reputation star filter, or add in extra conditions to sort by, such as international caps, to get a view of what you're looking for. Not sure if they're up to scratch? Offer them a trial over pre-season to get a look at their performances on the pitch. Here are the best FM23 free agents you need to sign.

The best STB 556 loadout in Modern Warfare 2

If you're looking for the best Modern Warfare 2 STB 556 loadout, you've come to the right place. This deceptively powerful assault rifle is capable of dishing out some serious damage at both mid to long-range. Its base stats trend high for damage and recoil control, and its accuracy, mobility, and handling are nothing to sniff at. In fact, the STB 556 is so good that you must be level 41 before you can unlock it. If you're a few levels off, our guide on how to level up fast in Modern Warfare 2 is guaranteed to get you over that threshold, while our best Modern Warfare 2 loadouts for the M4 and M16 will help tide you over in the meantime.

The STB 556 is an extraordinarily versatile weapon, and it's hard to go wrong when it comes to crafting your loadout. However, the best loadout plays to the STB 556's strengths, prioritising handling so that you can keep the enemy in your sights while taking full advantage of its firepower, and our Modern Warfare 2 STB 556 loadout aims to do just that.

French Streamer Yu-Gi-Oh 3D Battle Arena

French streamer Superzouloux has created a Yu-Gi-Oh 3D battle arena within his very own home. Footage of the arena was shared on Twitter by Jake Lucky. This included a clip demonstrating how the arena works. The footage shows 3D models appearing on camera once a card has been played, similar to how it does in games like Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. However, it doesn't stop there.

Superzouloux also programmed cameras to switch perspectives once the card has been played. This has created an entirely hands-free experience for the streamer, which is demonstrated in the footage. In an extended YouTube video he reveals that he was working on this project for roughly 7 months behind the scenes. He breaks down he process of creating this system. This includes the effort that went into making the 3D models for the cards and the creation of special electronic parts.

You can watch footage of Superzouloux's Yu-Gi-Oh 3D battle arena below. It video does feature subtitles, so viewers can read about his process in creating the fully functional arena while watching the clip.

Anime News Network Kadokawa

North American media news outlet Anime News Network announced Kadokawa will acquire its media business. The news came directly from the website, which featured a statement from both the President of Anime News Network (or ANN) Christopher Macdonald and President of Kadokawa Takeshi Natsuno. The acquisition will finalize sometime by the end of 2023. An amount was not disclosed in the statement.

Both parties express excitement regarding the acquisition, with Macdonald stating that "all of ANN's staff remain entirely dedicated to the standards of professional, exhaustive, and editorially independent journalism that ANN is already known for and we believe that Kadokawa's resources will be a great benefit to ANN's journalism and our readers."

Any potential immediate changes to Anime News Network were not mentioned in the announcement. Only that Kadokawa believes that the acquisition will "strengthen" Kadokawa's marketing efforts and presence within the North American region. Additionally, Kadokawa also noted that this is an opportunity for Anime News Network to also extend its reach. And to also highlight it's content and community.

Anime News Network was founded in 1998. It quickly rose to prominence as one of the outlets providing coverage of Japanese-based media. This has included visual novels, anime, and manga. As mentioned by Macdonald, Anime News Network will continue to be dedicated to independent journalism despite the acquisition of its media business.

The Sacred Pools

Game history blog Gaming Alexandria shared details and gameplay footage of The Sacred Pools, a 1996 "erotic thriller" by Sega that was never released. Dylan Mansfield penned a deep dive into the history of the game and its ties to the decline of FMV games in the 1990s.

Sega originally planned to release The Sacred Pools in 1997. SegaSoft aimed to publish games for both PC and Sega Saturn, as well as target older audiences. The game first debuted at E3 1996, where it faced a largely negative reaction from the press and onlookers. By the late 1990s, most avid games media and game enthusiasts soured on the prospects of FMV games. The critical drubbing and instability at SegaSoft itself (by 1997 the division would be restructured to focus on online games and the PC market) led Sega to quietly shelve The Sacred Pools.

That would've been the end of it, with the game remembered only through brief articles in gaming magazines of the time. However, in May 2022 Gaming Alexandria connected with Joe Cain, a former Sega game tester. Cain put them in contact with David Gray, who had worked as an associate producer on The Sacred Pools and happened to own several CD-ROMs with the game data on them. Gray got the discs, which contained alpha builds for the Sega Saturn, Windows PC, Mac, and PlayStation versions of the game as a parting gift in SegaSoft's waning days. (The division was disbanded in 2000.) Twenty years later, the game was finally copied to digital storage and made available via emulation.

Check out some gameplay footage of the Saturn version of The Sacred Pools below.

The Sacred Pools begins when the player arrives at an asteroid base and meets a mysterious woman who gives them a potion of some sort to drink. Like many FMV adventures of the time, the footage is shot in first-person view and allows players to explore area, screen by screen. A cursor-based interface allows for the solving of puzzles and manipulation of objects in the environment. The player also has a health bar, that depletes as they take damage from characters attacking them in pre-filmed scenes.

The Sacred Pools is available for download from Gaming Alexandria.

Capcom Resident Evil Survey

Capcom shared a Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and The Winters' Expansion survey. The survey itself, while relatively short, will provide participants with a special wallpaper upon competition. Questions in it include gauging interest in the release of a new Resident Evil title and if consumers would purchase an entirely new console to play it. However, a specific Resident Evil game was not mentioned outright.

Additionally, the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and The Winters' Expansion survey asks participants about their history with the series. This includes how many games within the franchise they have played.

With the release of Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, several new features have appeared in the game. These include a new "third person" mode, which does exactly as described. Players can now play Resident Evil Village in third-person via it, allowing them to explore the various set pieces in the game in an entirely new way. Alongside the release of Gold Edition, The Winters' Expansion adds a new DLC scenario, Shadow of Rose, which stars Rose Winters.

Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil Gold Edition are available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Owners of Resident Evil Village can purchase the Winters' Expansion DLC separately. A demo for Resident Evil Gold Edition is readily available.

Review: Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher isn't Just for Ultraman Fans

The joy of Monster Rancher games is happening upon a creature to raise and doing all you can to make them amazing in a certain period of time. Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher is that, but with Ultraman cameos from both massive opponents and the tokusatsu hero himself. That fact might be off-putting, but don't let it scare you off from a pleasant simulation game.

While kaiju encounters would be harrowing in any other Ultraman situation, in Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher, these are big buddies and not big baddies. While the Hero of Light (Ultraman) needed to seal them away into disc stones years ago, the people of Latour Island now consider them friends. As a recent graduate of the Breeder Academy, you come to Niesk ready to start raising kaiju. Since your information got lost along the way, a familiar face named Holly acts as your mentor/assistant as you find your footing and unleash monsters upon the island.

Review: Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher isn't Just for Ultraman Fans

From there, Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher tends to follow the series' basic formula. You determine the kaiju's food for the month, as well as if there are any spices on it. This can influence if they fear you or not or are dependent, as well as affect weight. You can talk to them, which can influence things like loyalty and anger. You set the character's schedule each week. Activities can involve a Drill at a location, which will influence stat growth and potentially make an area the kaiju's territory. (If that happens, the character's stat gains will be positively influenced.) You can take part in an Errantry with another trainer you've met. This charges them with raising your character for four weeks for a set fee, with a chance of learning a new technique if you do. If your monster is fatigued, you can send them to rest for a week so they can recover. (This also means they'll have a better chance of succeeding during Drills and Errantries.) You can enter tournaments at the Arena for fame, money, and a chance to meet more breeders. Also, you can head to town to shop or get new kaiju.

It's a very chill experience, to be sure. Yes, there is a time limit on each kaiju's "life." They'll only be in their prime for a few in-game years, after which they will retire. When they do, it's time to use the NFC scan, keyword, or code to get a new character. There's also a bit of strategy involved. Each monster has different stats that could be more easily raised, so you need to play to those strengths. However, their anger could rise if you make them do something they dislike. Which, in turn, could cause a rampage. So there's a sense of watching and learning what they like, then using that knowledge to balance behaviors that benefit both your buddy and you. Especially since there are times when you'll suddenly see the difficulty drastically increase between ranks.

Review: Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher isn't Just for Ultraman Fans

The real "action" in the game comes from battles. You can find yourself facing other kaiju in the wild, after running into another tamer, or most often at a tournament for rewards like money, items, and fame. Your character can know up to four techniques. These can each be used only if you have enough guts and are at the correct distance. (Though even if you do meet those criteria, your monster could get "confused" and be unable to react.) That, combined with an accuracy meter, determines if you deal damage. Also, different monsters' traits could determine if certain sorts of attacks get boosts. The winner at the end of the timed fight is determined by percentage of health left. It is never too taxing, but again success comes from knowing what your buddy is best at, taking advantage of situations, and managing stamina. Not to mention also getting cookies via cooking or shopping, so you can get up to three cookie-based abilities to make them stronger.

The only thing that could really get to someone in Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher is the pacing. It probably isn't an issue if you're familiar with not only the Monster Rancher series, but character-raising games in general. Your journey is about constantly seeing which monsters are out there and building them up to be better. There's no massive, dramatic goal. I mean sure, you want to rise up through the tournament ranks and meet all the other trainers out there. But this is no race. Someone comes to this kind of game to enjoy the ride and relax. Go through about two years, maybe fuse your monster or find a new one after that, and go through it all again. As long as you know going in that this is not a race and will involve a lot of patience and gradual, grinding investment, you'll be fine.

Ultraman

I will note that I found Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher more entertaining than a typical installment because I went in wanting to know more about Ultraman. So when I'd get a new character via a scan, inputting a name, or entering a code, I would be heading to the internet to learn who they were. I'd wonder if I should try and raise them based on what they were like in the tokusatsu series. I found it more interesting to keep going through additional lifespans because I wanted to see what was next. Especially since it genuinely looks good on the Nintendo Switch and the characters have so much personality.

Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher does a good job of infusing Ultraman essence into an established series, all without potentially putting people off of it. Things are handled well, and the kaiju are fun to collect and train even if you aren't aware of their backstories. That said, Monster Rancher is a very part

Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher is available for the Nintendo Switch.

Chainsaw Man Makima and Aki Look Up Figures Revealed

Ahead of their appearance at the Animate Girls Festival (AGF) 2022, MegaHouse showed off the Chainsaw Man Aki and Makima Look Up figures. It took to its official blog to show off first photos of the two characters. It also confirmed that in addition to the event appearance between November 5-6, 2022, pre-orders for the two characters will open in Japan on November 4, 2022.

First, here's a look at the two Chainsaw Man figures together. Both Aki and Makima are wearing their Public Safety Devil Hunters uniforms. Each one is sitting with their hands on their knees, looking up at the viewer. However, the head and neck can be moved for the Look Up figure line. This means you can adjust the angle to change their perspective.

A second photo shows examples of the degree of motion possible with the two characters. It is possible to position them so they are looking straight ahead, rather than up, and the figures' heads can be turned or tilted.

Sonic Frontiers Prologue Video Stars Knuckles

Sonic is the star of Sonic Frontiers, but a new video helps establish what's going on with Knuckles the Echidna in the game. "Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Divergence" is a six minute animation starring the character. It's a fairly introspective piece establishing his role in the new game as the Master Emerald guardian.

Here is the full "Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Divergence" video starring Knuckles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gjszHTDjzo&ab_channel=SonictheHedgehog

The short is set on Angel Island, with Knuckles standing guard in front of the Master Emerald. He thinks about why he's responsible for the safety of the animals, forests, and Master Emerald. When he does, he thinks back to his ancestors' attempt to steal it and who even created the Emerald. While Knuckles ponders the island's mysteries, we also see Chao living there and going about their lives.

However, when Knuckles finds an odd artifact and new ruin after assisting a Chao, he happens upon a new mystery. It's then that he meets the same sorts of opponents Sonic will fight in the game.

This is the second recent story-heavy video to show up for Sonic Frontiers. Back in August 2022, Sega released a new trailer focusing on the game's story.

Sonic Frontiers will come to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on November 8.

Naruto Sasuke's Story Konoha's Story

Two spin-off stories continuing from the conclusion of the Naruto manga debuted in English. Titled Naruto: Sasuke's Story and Naruto: Konoha's Story, the spin-offs check in with some of the series' famed ninja and their adventures after the Fourth Great Ninja War. Both series have their first chapters readable for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus service [Thanks, ANN!].

Both manga are based on novels written by authors Jun Esaka and Sho Hinata, and published years after the manga's 2014 conclusion. Sho Hinata's Naruto: Konoha's Story - The Steam Ninja Scrolls came out in 2016. Jun Esaka's Naruto: Sasuke's Story - The Uchiha and the Heavenly Stardust was published in 2019. The manga adaptations are being handled by Natsuo Sai and Shingo Kimura, respectively.

Naruto: Sasuke's Story follows Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto's teammate, eternal rival, sometime foe, and best friend. As an adult and agent of Konoha, Sasuke has infiltrated an astronomical observatory far from the Land of Fire. Next FFVII Remake Wallpaper Features Zack from Crisis Core

The latest FFVII Remake calendar is here for November 2022, and this time Square Enix is tapping Zack Fair to prepare for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. The images feature the iconic image of the character with the Buster Sword. Both PC and mobile versions of the wallpaper are available.

Here are the Zack Fair Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion November 2022 calendar images continuing the FFVII Remake trend.
[gallery columns="2" ids="938723,938724" link="file"]

This is a recurring image that's been used to promote Crisis Core since the original PlayStation Portable release. The box art featured Zack in this pose with the Buster Sword and black feathers.

Spoilers aside, this inclusion is fitting due to Zack's role not only in the compilation of Final Fantasy VII, but also the references in FFVII Remake. The character is an important figure throughout the series, with Crisis Core getting into his history with Aerith, Cloud, Sephiroth, and Shinra as a whole.

Past FFVII Remake 2022 calendar images tended to focus on folks from the game. For example, Reno and Rude appeared in the July 2022 image. Yuffie was the star of the one for June 2022.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available for the PlayStation 4, while FFVII Remake Intergrade is out on the PlayStation 5 and PC. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion will release for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on December 13, 2022.

Ben Stiller, John Travolta, and LeBron James Star in God of War Ragnarok Commercial ad

The new God of War Ragnarok commercial is here, and Sony pulled Ben Stiller, John Travolta, LeBron James, and their children in for a support group in the ad. Stiller leads it as the fathers and their kids discuss being a parent and idolizing Kratos and Atreus' relationship. [Thanks, Entertainment Weekly!]

Ben Stiller is leading the group in full God of War Ragnarok attire in the ad, with his son Quin by his side. He dispenses insight to John Travolta, who is there with Ella Travolta, and LeBron James, who is in attendance with Bronny. Stiller notes early on "The God of War dynamic plays out in every parent-child relationship. When that clicked for me, I picked up my Leviathan Axe and felt truly close to my son for the first time." Quin Stiller then responds, "I'm 17." This sets the dynamic for the rest of the video.

Here is the full God of War Ragnarok commercial.

Most of the previous God of War Ragnarok videos are more traditional. For example, the September 2022 State of Play trailer released in time for the 2022 Tokyo Game Show focused on the story so far.

God of War Ragnarok will come to the PS4 and PS5 on November 9, 2022. The game "went gold" at the beginning of October 2022.

Iron Man Game Being Developed By Motive StudioMarvel has been licensing out its franchises to various game developers over the last few years with mostly positive results. Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy are two shining examples of talented game developers being given the reins to some iconic comic book characters and creating fantastic video games from it. Marvel is far from done in the video game space, however. It's now been revealed that Marvel is teaming up with Electronic Arts to create a minimum of three action-adventure games that make use of the brand. The news comes from Bloomberg and describes a business strategy in which EA wishes to attract new players who haven't already been drawn into the publisher's games like the FIFA series. The official announcement from EA says that these new games will be "their own original stories set in the Marvel universe."   We've been here before The first of these three new titles will be Iron Man, which is currently in development at M...

Sonic Frontiers Prologue Divergence KnucklesEarlier in June, Sega briefly teased an animated short for Sonic Frontiers that would serve as a prologue to the events of the game. The teaser showed nothing more than a single shot of Knuckles the Echidna keeping guard of the Master Emerald on Angel Island's altar, setting up a potentially interesting mystery explaining his appearance in Sonic Frontiers. Well now, just a week before the game's release, we can finally gain some insight into this mystery, as Sega uploaded this short on the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel this morning. This short goes by the name "Divergence," and it starts with Knuckles wondering why he was chosen to protect the Master Emerald as he stands in front of it, in a manner not dissimilar to the opening of his campaign in Sonic Adventure. He explores Sky Sanctuary for a bit until he stumbles upon a Portal Gear, one of the collectible items in Sonic Frontiers.   Going out fighting After inserting the Gear into som...

With the folks at Friday the 13th: The Game spearheading this effort, it's not surprising to see how faithful and joyful this adaptation of Killer Klowns looks so far, which was highlighted in a recent dev post and film comparison trailer.      Shatter Remastered Deluxe Worth It 1I played Shatter when it first released and was quite taken with it. I've always liked brick breakers and the game not only offered a strong product that captured what I loved about the genre, but included some new tracks as well. Over a decade later and Shatter Remastered Deluxe has brought the game back to PC and consoles with its short campaign and few extra modes intact. It's always nice to re-experience beloved titles from way back when, and this game is no different. But the question stands: is Shatter Remastered Deluxe worth it, or should you just play the original? Now, if you're a fan of the game, you've likely noticed that the original version is still available for sale at the heavily enticing price of $1.99 USD. So why exactly does this exist? I'm glad you asked. Shatter Remastered is the mobile version of the game. This adds "Deluxe" to the title, but, yes, this is a release of the mobile port, despite the fact that the origina...
