Halo Infinite's BTB fix did not actually fix BTB

Halo Infinite's 24-player Big Team Battle mode has been having issues since shortly after launch, making it difficult to matchmake into a game, and often providing an unstable experience even after you've gotten in. A new hotfix today was meant to correct those problems, but it seems there haven't actually been any meaningful improvements.

"Unfortunately it looks like today's patch did not fully resolve the BTB matchmaking problems," community director Brian Jarrard says in a forum post. "The team is continuing to investigate and while we believe there may be some minor improvements, matchmaking is still not working as expected. Many people worked hard to get this fix out the door and it's naturally very disappointing we're not seeing the desired and expected results. We know this is an ongoing source of frustration and the team will continue to work towards a resolution."

There's no word yet on how long a follow-up fix will take, but it seems that 343 Industries is having a difficult time tracking down the source of the issues. Regardless, the promised set of five bonus XP boosts and challenge swaps still went live today as scheduled - you'll get those if you log in anytime between now and February 16.

Microsoft Flight Simulator's latest add-on is the ultimate adventure plane

Serious pilots go on and on about things like 'approach patterns' and 'safety checklists,' but maybe you're in a bit of a rush to get somewhere that doesn't have one of those new-fangled 'runways' nearby when you fire up Microsoft Flight Simulator. Well, Aerosoft's latest aircraft may be just the plane for you: it's the DH-6 Twin Otter, and it can go just about anywhere.

The Twin Otter is a 19-passenger utility aircraft that comes in several configurations. The standard issue is a fixed, tricycle landing gear, which it can use for short take-off and landing (or STOL) on the usual tarmac or even dirt runways found all over the world. The aircraft can also be fitted with pontoon floats for water landings, skis, or tundra wheels, and in real life it's been used to land on mudflats, sand, snow, ice, and anything in between.

The Aerosoft version includes a lovingly detailed icing system, which is handy because the Twin Otter sees plenty of service in the polar regions. So if you're looking for a good simulation game experience of travelling to a research station in Antarctica, the DHC-6 is a good bet.

Humankind devs detail all six African DLC cultures for the 4X game

The developers behind 4X game Humankind unveiled the game's first major DLC pack, Cultures of Africa, last week, and since then have been slowly detailing what to expect from each of the six new cultures. Now, with a fresh video detailing the Nigerians, we've got a full breakdown on all of them.

The Bantu are an expansionist culture in the Ancient era. Their legacy trait, Harmonious Amalgamation, grants you bonus influence based on the number of empires adjacent to your territory, giving them greater impact on nearby regions. Their Mupia Fields district is a special outpost that will provide food to cities regardless of where it's placed. And the Bagendi Pioneer unit can be turned into an outpost without spending your influence.

In the Classical era, we've got the agrarian Garamantes culture. Their Desert in Bloom trait generates bonus influence in cities while their population is growing. The Foggara district will allow you to harvest food from tiles that don't normally produce it. And their Javelin Rider unit can move after an attack, doing a quick strike to soften up enemies before your main units hit the front line.

Call of Duty's Season Two has been delayed for both Warzone and Vanguard

The next season of Call of Duty is going to begin a bit late, thanks to the ongoing issues plaguing Warzone, Vanguard, and Modern Warfare, Activision has announced. Season Two in the multiplayer games will now begin February 14, not on February 2 as originally scheduled.

Call of Duty has had a rocky couple months since season one began in December. From weapon balancing to invisible skins in the shop, Warzone and Vanguard players have had plenty to complain about. The developers say "we feel your frustrations and hear you loud and clear," and add that while several patches have rolled out during season one, "more needs to be done."

"We will use this additional development time to deliver updates, including optimisations to gameplay, game balancing (including weapon and equipment balancing), to fix game stability and bugs, and to ensure an overall level of polish to improve the experience for players across Vanguard, Warzone Pacific, Black Ops Cold War, and Modern Warfare," the Call of Duty staff writes in today's announcement.

Minecraft's getting a 'place feature' command

We're now a few weeks into 2022, and the Minecraft devs are getting back into the weekly snapshot routine. Mojang has launched snapshot 22W03A, a beta release which introduces a few of the smaller fixes that'll be the focus of 1.18.2. Then the devs say it'll be "full speed ahead towards the Wild update".

The big addition in this snapshot is a new command called 'placefeature'. This will allow you to, er, place features. In other words, objects like trees, grass, and other things that generate naturally in the world rather than being placed can now be put down wherever you like, as long as you don't mind enabling cheats. This should be particularly useful to datapack creators.

As producer Adrian Östergård says on Twitter, "we're heading towards 1.18.2 to fix a few issues, and after that, it's full speed ahead towards the Wild update." The Wild update is set to launch sometime in 2021, but as we await the Minecraft 1.19 release date, we'll see many of the new features show up in playable form early thanks to snapshots like these.

Babylon's Fall release date – what you need to know

When is the Babylon's Fall release date? The upcoming action game from Platinum Games is shrouded in mystery but already has plenty of lore, and thanks to a reaveal at TGA 2021 we now know the release date too.

Revealed during the Square Enix E3 2018 showcase, Babylon's Fall was unveiled with a rough release date, but scarce few details to go on apart from that. There was no gameplay on display, and no subsequent explanation of what the new IP is all about. It was also delayed out of the 2019 window we were expecting and has only recently had a more solid release date provided.

This is an action-RPG that can support up to four players playing in co-op, where you can join forces to fight back against an evil empire ravaging the world for its own gains. You can customise your weapon loadouts by wielding up to four at once. As per the game's Steam page: "only by mastering the powers of your Gideon Coffin, will you unlock your true potential and become strong enough to survive the summit and uncover the secrets that await."

Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel is already the number five game on Steam

Yu-Gi-Oh fans have been clamoring for a modern game that replicates the full TCG experience, and now that Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel is out, those fans are showing up in force. The free-to-play card game hit PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and PC earlier today, and it's already one of the biggest games on Steam.

The PC version of Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel reached a peak concurrent player count 159,158 earlier today, as SteamDB shows. That's the fifth-biggest peak on Steam today, behind only Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Apex Legends. That means Yu-Gi-Oh is outperforming the likes of Grand Theft Auto V, Monster Hunter Rise, New World, Destiny 2, and more.

Today's launch was a complete surprise, so there aren't any critic reviews out there - not that they'd have much to say so early anyway, with this being an online-focused game - but early Steam user reviews have been 'very positive'. Some players are concerned about the free-to-play monetisation, but how that compares to other digital TCGs over the long haul remains to be seen.

The best C58 loadout in Warzone Pacific

Are you looking for the best C58 assault rifle loadout in Warzone Pacific? The C58 was introduced back in Warzone Season 4, but it failed to become a popular weapon because it felt underpowered next to the best assault rifles in Warzone. After a few balance changes, the C58 has become a solid option for players that feel comfortable shooting from a distance.

Compared to the Call of Duty Vanguard assault rifles, the C58 excels in its long range capabilities. What makes this weapon so strong is the lack of any damage drop off when landing headshots from afar. We've picked a loadout to get the most out of this feature while reducing as much recoil as possible.

The C58 is a difficult weapon to get to grips with, but don't let its high skill ceiling put you off. The last Warzone gun to have a high skill ceiling was the DMR 14, and we all know how that turned out. Here's everything you need to know about the best C58 loadout in Warzone Pacific.

Dark Souls diary: fear and loathing in Sen's Fortress

The first act of Dark Souls has seen me escape from the Undead Asylum, marvel at the vertical level design of Undead Burg, and seek help from NPCs and friends as I plunge into the increasing darkness of the Depths and Blighttown. Now, the imposing portcullis at the entrance to Sen's Fortress has opened, and I've got to battle through it in order to reach the glittering city of Anor Londo, a place high above and protected by a ring of sheer cliffs.

When I return to Firelink Shrine from Blighttown (arriving via a cleverly hidden elevator), I find that the world has taken note of my activities. A bug-eyed serpent called Kingseeker Frampt has appeared in a nearby chapel, and a cleric who was waiting for his travelling companions has disappeared. So has Knight Lautrec, a fellow dressed in gold armour who I'd freed from a cell in the Undead Church - he's nowhere to be found now, but he's murdered the firekeeper who'd been sealed in her own cell beneath the bonfire. Speaking of which: the bonfire, my first real tether to this gloomy world, is cold and dead. Bugger.

I decide to make a quick trip into Darkroot Garden before tackling Sen's Fortress. After dealing with the titanite demon living in Andre the Blacksmith's basement, I head out into Darkroot through a back door and find myself in yet another location that looks and feels completely different to anything else I've travelled through up to this point.

This is the first area in Dark Souls where you can truly feel the game's age. Darkroot Garden lacks the palpable sense of place I found in Undead Burg or even Blighttown - it's a series of corridors and open areas covered in muddy textures that don't clearly convey anything. Are these moss-covered rocks? Is this grass or leafy detritus? What I see in Darkroot Garden is level geometry - there's not enough set-dressing to maintain suspension of disbelief.

The best Sykov loadout in Warzone Pacific

Looking for the best Sykov loadout in Warzone Pacific? When this pistol was first added to Warzone back in Season 3, the akimbo build dominated the battle royale game for a few days as it overran Verdansk. Those days may be long gone, but this weapon is still worth using on Caldera and Rebirth Island if you use the correct attachments.

We've gone for the stand alone version of the Sykov which boasts 80 round magazines, ensuring you never run out of bullets in the middle of a fight. Compared to other pistols in Warzone, the Sykov excels thanks to its SMG-like abilities, allowing you to blast enemies away at close range. This means you don't have to run the Overkill perk, instead just equip the Sykov and let the pistol do all your close range dirty work.

The fully automatic Sykov is a lethal weapon up close, as long as you use the correct loadout to minimise recoil. Here's everything you need to build the best Sykov loadout in Warzone.

Battlefield 2042 is finally getting a new scoreboard next month

While Battlefield 2042 has seen its fair share of challenges since launching last year, one of the more consistent requests from fans has been a new scoreboard. Fret not, though! As change is on the way.

EA has laid out its plans for Battlefield 2042 over the coming weeks. In mid to late February, fans are getting a refreshed scoreboard UI that features a new panel that showcases how players are stacking up across the server. Further changes have been in the works since earlier this month, too. The team has shared an in-progress shot, which you can catch below.

That's only the start as EA plans to make further improvements as time goes on. "[The] scoreboard will receive further updates beyond this refresh - this isn't a one and done deal for us," the developer says on Twitter. "Expect to see us iterate on this further once it's live in-game, and we look forward to your feedback once this new scoreboard goes live in February."

One of the most detailed Vietnam War games ever made launches this week

The year's first big crunchy wargame hits digital shelves January 20. Campaign Series Vietnam, published by Matrix Games, is a turn-based strategy game that covers battles in Vietnam going back to 1948, which saw the French fighting the Việt Minh government over colonial control of Vietnam. This eventually escalated into the Vietnam War, and Campaign Series Vietnam includes battles up to 1967, when the United States had become involved in the conflict.

If you're not familiar with wargames, the screenshots of Campaign Series Vietnam are going to look pretty basic - like something created for Windows 97, perhaps. But there's a tremendous amount of detail under the hood, as well as a lot of meticulous historical research shaping each of more than 100 scenarios. They're all built on 250-metre hex maps that use real-world topographic maps from the era as reference material.

As you might have guessed from the artwork, Campaign Series Vietnam is a traditional old wargame, but it has some interesting new tricks that help better reflect the nature of warfare in Vietnam. New units like helicopters and amphibious units, civilians, supply trucks, help add realistic considerations to how you proceed with each scenario.

AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT GPU reviews round-up – what do the critics think?

Over the last two years, getting your hands on the best graphics cards from AMD or Nvidia has proven to be a depressingly fruitless or embarrassingly extortionate endeavour for most people. Thankfully, AMD just released its $199 USD Radeon RX 6500 XT GPU, and you might actually be able to find one! But should you buy one?

The Radeon RX 6500 XT sits at the bottom of AMD's RX 6000 product stack. Built on its RDNA 2 manufacturing process, the card is aimed at those looking to build a budget gaming PC to play videogames at 1080p resolution. It features a respectably high boost clock of up to 2,815MHz and only requires a 400W PSU, which hopefully means it's rather power efficient.

Unfortunately, there's a serious red flag lurking in this GPU's spec sheet. The Radeon RX 6500 XT is limited to just four PCIe lanes, meaning those on PCIe Gen 3 can expect markedly worse performance than those with PCIe Gen 4 or Gen 5 motherboards.

Total War: Warhammer 3 races – everything you need to know

So, you want to know about Total War: Warhammer III races? While this was one of the biggest causes for speculation during the months immediately after Warhammer III's announcement, plenty of information has been released since, so we can answer the question with some certainty at this point.

Developer Creative Assembly previously promised to include all 15 of Warhammer Fantasy's eighth edition core races in its Warhammer Total War games, which at the time prior to the third game's announcement left only Ogre Kingdoms and Deamons of Chaos. The Ogre Kingdoms were eventually announced and confirmed as the pre-order bonus race in November 2021, while the Deamons of Chaos wer revealed in January 2022, fulfilling the prophecy.

We were also treated to the surprise that Grand Cathay, the most enigmatic of Warhammer race of them all, would be brought to life for the very first time in partnership with Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy revival. We've laid out a quick summary of all of the confirmed races below, along with some additional speculation regarding future Warhammer III races we think might turn up as DLC.

Total War: Warhammer 3 system requirements devour 120GB of your SSD

Total War: Warhammer 3's release date will soon be upon us, so it'd be wise to ensure your gaming PC is capable of meeting the game's system requirements. Creative Assembly's confirmed it's going all-in on story with its final Total War title set in the Warhammer universe, and it's safe to say we can expect some graphical improvements and optimisations too.

You'll need to clear a significant chunk of space on your SSD for all the legendary lords found in the game, 120GB to be exact. Creative Assembly's unfortunately been rather vague on the CPU and GPU needed to run Total War: Warhammer 3, but they at least offer some guidance. Nothing's been officially announced in terms of new graphical features, but there's still every possibility we could see Nvidia DLSS or AMD FSR debut in the series.

For now, it's probably best to prepare your rig for Creative Assembly's last Warhammer hurrah by equipping your system with the best gaming CPU and best SSD for gaming that you can afford.

If you're after a way to make your magic system seem cutesy yet different at the same time, music is a good one to go for. Sure, it's been done before, but it feels inherently charming. I have to give them credit for the name Songs Of Glimmerwick, which immediately lets you know that this will be about music and magic, and probably have an amount of tweeness. Specific tweeness levels unconfirmed but they're looking good from the trailer, where you can also clap eyes on some pretty cool-looking gardening, a tree telling you to stfu, and a man earnestly giving you a wooden flute as you head off to magic university.

Ghostrunner expansion Project_HelGhostrunner has been a big hit for publisher 505 Games since its launch in October of 2020. Although DLC for the game has pop up here and there, fans have eagerly awaited the game's paid expansion, Project_Hel. While it was set to launch in about a week, the Ghostrunner official Twitter account announced today that the Project_Hel DLC has been delayed to work on additional quality, as well as to help make things safe for the team due to the pandemic. While this is no doubt going to be disappointing for anyone looking forward to more cyber ninja shenanigans this month, a polished product is always better in the end. Project_Hel will now launch on March 3, giving the devs over a month of time to add some more polish to the enterprise. Hopefully, the extra time will be more than enough to make for an expansion that everybody is happy with. If you're not sure what to expect from this DLC, it will let you play as one of the main game's bosses. While the original protago...

Have A Nice Death Early Access CEOThose who watched the entirety of last year's Game Awards may remember the announcement of Have a Nice Death, a sidescrolling action rogue-lite boasting a crisp hand-drawn art style. Today's gaming market has no shortage of action rogue-lites, but this one still managed to stick out thanks to its incredibly polished aesthetic and fun, quirky premise. Those who were eager to try it out will, luckily, get an opportunity to do so somewhat sooner than expected. Have a Nice Death will drop onto Steam Early Access come March 8, and players can purchase the game for only $14.99 USD.   Establish order through force According to a press release, Have a Nice Death places players within the nonexistent shoes of Death, who serves as the "founder and CEO of Death, Incorporated." The primary purpose of this "giant underworld organization" involves "processing souls in the afterlife," but unfortunately, Death's employees don't do a v...

Battlefield 2042 February UpdateBattlefield 2042's February update brings changes to the Portal mode and a re-design of the Scoreboard UI. A Twitter thread on the official Battlefield account detailed some of these changes alongside the announcement of tomorrow's update. The 3.2 and 3.3 Updates deliver "a handful of small fixes and improvements to the game focused around stability." These updates will address multiple points of criticism that have been levied against the game since its release in November 2021. Unfortunately, Battlefield 2042 has had a pretty tough time over the last few months. With the usual hiccups that are expected for multiplayer-focused games, as well as other issues bringing the game down, it's been rough for sure. DICE has been hard at work to bring Battlefield 2042 up to a higher standard though, even amid 'brutal' fan expectations.   A good step forward for Battlefield 2042 Update 3.2 is planned to go live tomorrow. DICE has also released a ...

Xbox Phil Spencer Explains How Developers Profit From Xbox Game Pass (2)There were a lot of questions following yesterday's announcement that Microsoft was acquiring Activision Blizzard for the tune of a cool $68.7 billion USD. Namely, the thought that plagued many players minds was: will Diablo and Call of Duty be exclusive to Xbox and PC? Newly crowned Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer did say the company was planning on bringing AB franchises to Game Pass. However, would that mean Call of Duty fans on PlayStation need to migrate? In another statement by Spencer, this probably isn't the case: Activision Blizzard games won't be exclusive to Xbox and PC. "I'll just say to players out there who are playing Activision Blizzard games on Sony's platform: It's not our intent to pull communities away from that platform and we remained committed to that," Spencer said in an interview with Bloomberg. From the sound of things, if you enjoy Call of Duty on your PlayStation console, you won't need to worry about migrating elsewhere.   ...

Valorant Episode 3 Act Ii Battle Pass Melee WeaponIt's been just over a week since Valorant embarked on a new chapter with Episode 4 and a new Game Director at the helm. Patch 4.0 introduced the lightning-fueled speedster agent, Neon. Plus, it made some substantial changes to a few weapons. Now, Valorant patch 4.01 is here to tone down the overpowered Ares changes, as well as implement a few other new features. If you want to check out the complete patch notes for 4.01, you can do so here. The major changes are the Ares nerf, the improvement to melee attacks, and the addition of a Muted Words List.   Valorant patch 4.01 changes Let's start with the most important update, the Ares. In patch 4.0, the windup time of the weapon was removed. It made the Ares incredibly powerful for its meager price. To counter this, Riot Games has increased the price of the gun from 1,550 to 1,600 Credits. Plus, it has made the weapon harder to control when spraying. Ares's pitch recoil has also been increased. Its spread will now only lessen...
