     Team17 cancels NFTs

Indie label Team17 has announced an end to its MetaWorms NFT initiative, following public backlash from both players and development partners. The company now says it will "step back from the NFT space". The MetaWorm project was initially described as an "environmentally friendly'' take on NFTs, allowing people to own digital art of Team17's most iconic property, Worms.

"Team17 is today announcing an end to the MetaWorms NFT project," the company says in a press release. "We have listened to our teamsters, development partners, and our games' communities, and the concerns they've expressed, and have therefore taken the decision to step back from the NFT space."

According to a report from Eurogamer, many within Team17 didn't know about the NFT project prior to its announcement. Several developers behind Team17-published games, including Playtonic, Ghost Town Games, and Aggro Crab have publicly distanced themselves from the announcement.

Forza Horizon 5 now lets you edit saved EventLab routes

There's a new patch out for car-centric open-world game Forza Horizon 5, and one of the most welcome additions with this update is the ability to return to races you've created with the EventLab feature and edit them afterwards. It's a change that should make the EventLab a much more attractive proposition, since it eliminates the need to start over from scratch if you realise you've placed something incorrectly.

Forza Horizon 5's EventLab lets you set up as much or as little of a custom race as you like, and things can get pretty complex when you get into planning your own routes, rather than using a premade course. The latest patch makes previously saved tracks editable, and it adds quite a few more welcome tweaks to the tool as well.

For instance, you can search for EventLab events by keyword, and restrict your races to both "2020s" vehicles and Chinese cars. You'll be able to add and edit checkpoints in Route Creator while you're at a Street Race location now, and EventLab events can be kicked off with the Link feature. The patch notes also say you'll see more EventLab creations surfaced at every activation point, so you should get a broader selection of user-designed courses from here on out.

Dying Light 2 fans miffed after a last-minute Denuvo reveal

Dying Light 2 will use the controversial Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM system. If you didn't know that, you're not alone. The information was quietly revealed through a back-end Steam update yesterday, and while the Steam store page now clearly labels its inclusion, fans are miffed about the last-minute reveal.

"Dying Light 2 Stay Human was in development for seven years," a Techland representative tells players on the Steam forums. "Throughout that period, over fifteen hundred people invested their time and talent into making the game. To protect the efforts of the whole team from piracy we suffered when we released Dying Light 1, we've included the Denuvo system, at least for the launch period. It's a solution used widely for AAA games nowadays.

"Being gamers ourselves, we understand your concerns, and we want to ensure that it will not impact your gaming experience. We continue putting extra resources into testing the game, and at this stage, we do not see any noticeable impact on the performance. We'll be actively reviewing feedback during the game's launch. Do not hesitate to share yours with us too."

Dying Light 2 release time confirmed

Dying Light 2 kicks off an absolutely absurd month of big game releases in February, and if you're looking to jump into the parkour-fueled zombie smasher the instant the launch arrives, developer Techland has helpfully provided a full breakdown of the Dying Light 2 release times. And hey, in certain parts of the world, you'll technically even get to play before February 4.

On PC, the Dying Light 2 release time is set for February 3 at 4pm PST / 7pm EST. On the other side of the international date line, that's midnight GMT on February 4. It's a single, global launch on PC - no need to look longingly at New Zealand or anything. Console players will have to wait for a gradual rollout, however, as the game unlocks at midnight in your local region on both PlayStation and Xbox. Pre-loads are already live on Xbox, and will be live for all platforms 48 hours ahead of release.

You can expect full Dying Light 2 reviews - including our own - to start dropping ahead of launch. The devs have already provided the Dying Light 2 system requirements, so you can see if your PC is up to the task of running it well ahead of release.

Destiny 2: what is the Nightfall weapon this week?

Want to know what this week's Destiny 2 Nightfall weapon is? Each week you've got a chance at a different weapon for completing Nightfall Strikes, and as of Season of the Lost, you can now get fan-favourite legacy weapons from the original Destiny. Two more of these weapons arrived in Season of the Lost, so it's more important than ever to know in advance the Nightfall weapon schedule.

In case all these words are new to you, Nightfall: The Ordeal is a playlist available in the Vanguard menu, alongside the basic Strike playlist. Each week, a different Strike is chosen as the Nightfall, and offered in five escalating difficulties, with harder enemies, challenging modifiers, and enemy power levels cranking up.

The coveted Nightfall weapons have a chance to drop from any Nightfall Strike difficulty, but it's far more likely at higher levels. Your best bet for farming each week's Nightfall weapon is to set the Strike to Master difficulty, according to YouTuber Aztecross. You should also note that there's no automatic matchmaking above Hero difficulty, however, so you'll need to get a squad together.

Best VR headset – the top budget and high-end VR headsets in 2022

Virtual reality might feel like sci-fi shenanigans, but VR headsets are swiftly becoming a staple part of any gaming PC setup. Sure, compared to the tech featured in Ready Player One, the format is still in its infancy, but games like Half-Life: Alyx, Beat Saber, and Rez Infinite more than demonstrate the virtues of VR gaming.

Choosing the best VR headset seems simple on the surface, but there are industry changes in motion that could complicate venturing into virtual reality. For starters, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) has ditched its iconic Oculus Quest branding in favour of a new Meta Quest label. This means upcoming devices like the Oculus Quest 3 will likely with a metaverse themed name, rather than the moniker we've come to love.

Of course, Meta isn't the only player within the VR space, as HTC and Valve are also in the running. Each headset contributes to immersive gaming in its own way, so it's important to consider the specs, price, and drawbacks of each device. To help you get on your virtual feet, we've tested a bunch of PC VR headsets in an attempt to make the murky waters of the metaverse a little clearer.

Battlefield 2042's first season has been delayed to the summer

Battlefield 2042 still isn't in the shape the developers - or players - want it, and so the multiplayer game's season one release date has been pushed back to the summer. The Battlefield team says it's planning on incorporating player feedback into fixes and changes to the game prior to the launch of the first battle pass.

The latest update on the official Battlefield site lays out the general direction in which the developers want to focus attention over the next few months, although it's a bit vague on dates and other specifics. The next update will include a "refreshed" scoreboard to pull up during matches, with player feedback on breaking out friendly teams from enemy teams incorporated into the updated format - but it's still unclear when that update can be expected to launch.

The post also indicates that "all platform" voice communications are on the way, but does not specify whether that will be part of the next update or one later on down the line. A more detailed player profile screen is in the works too, but again, the post does not specify when that feature will be rolled out.

Apex Legends' Olympus redesign is about expanding the map

Olympus will look worse for wear when Apex Legends' next season rolls around. Story-wise, Mad Maggie and Eduardo Silva have put the floating landmass through the wringer after a scuffle almost sent it crashing down to earth. This narrative, though, really sits alongside Respawn Entertainment's decision to give Olympus some much-needed design tweaks.

Level designer Alex Garner explains during a recent panel with the press that the round design of the map was sending too many players towards the centre for combat. Now, when you next touch down in Olympus, you'll find that the south portion of the map has been expanded to tempt you away from Labs and Estates, which the team hopes will reduce the frequency of spontaneous third-party encounters.

The south side of the map is now the home of the phase driver you'll recognise from a recent trailer. More than a towering structure, the new point of interest can lead to some good loot if you risk switching it on. Doing so will guarantee one gold-tier reward, though you can only activate it once every 45 seconds. The phase driver is also pretty dang loud, so be sure that everyone will know where you are if you switch it on.

Fortnite Haven masks – where to find feathers

Want to know how to unlock Haven masks in Fortnite? As of the 19.20 update, you can now find feathers in chests. Just like the Toona Fish and Kymera skins of previous seasons, you can now customise the Haven skin - which you can unlock on page five of the battle pass - with a whole bunch of new styles.

The first step in unlocking these new styles is to gather as many feathers as you can. You have a chance of finding up to one feather inside any chest. It costs anywhere from ten to 20 feathers to purchase one of the masks and unlock one of the 30 new styles for this Fortnite skin. To get every single mask, you'll need to gather 520 feathers in total. Considering you only have until March 19 to unlock these masks, you would need to play many matches to get all of them.

As getting that many feathers is quite the grind, you can head into the new Haven's Masks tab in the main menu via the battle pass section to see all of the Fortnite Haven masks quests. Although most of them are pretty simple to complete, you will need to know how to slide to complete a few of them. Let's take a look at all of the Fortnite Haven Masks quests to see what you need to do.

Doom Eternal's BFG is now an Nvidia RTX 3080 gaming PC

The Doom series' BFG is one of gaming's most iconic weapons, but thanks to a modder's custom build, the acronym now stands for "big fucking gaming PC." That's right, Mark Celica of Mark's Fabrication has created a ridiculous rig inspired by Doom Eternal, complete with a locked and loaded Nvidia RTX 3080.

In a recent episode of Nvidia's GeForce Garage, Celica showcased his elaborate BFG PC while providing some insight into the build. The modder reveals that he added his own elements to the gun's design, which he describes as having a "rich and curvy sci-fi style." While the rig won't help you rip through the denizens of hell, it features a gigantic housing on a turret style base, and it's also armed with laser lighting effects.

As for the cannon's components, the BFG build is rocking an Intel i7 10700K CPU, 16GB of Zadak memory, and an ASRock Z490 gaming motherboard. Its RTX 3080 GPU is mounted at the barrel of the gun, with the card's fans simulating a sinister charging effect.

Destiny 2 The Witch Queen release date, features, and new gear

When is the Destiny 2 The Witch Queen release date? This is the multiplayer game's highly anticipated new expansion and as the name implies, players will finally face the eponymous villain, the terrible Savathûn herself. In case you need reminding who she is, she's the middle sister to Xivu Arath, God of War, and Oryx, the Taken King. They are the chief gods of the Hive species, who originally made a deal with the Worm gods on Fundament.

Hive gods have their own 'cyst universes' within the Ascendant Realm, otherwise known as Throne Worlds - a realm in which they have absolute power. That's where the Guardians are headed to confront The Witch Queen, and she's got plenty up her sleeve, including Hive Guardians who have the power to wield the Light.

The Witch Queen expansion releases alongside Season 16 and marks the conclusion of Season 15, in which we've been working alongside Mara Sov to remove Savathûn's worm - the source of her power, at her own request. By the time the release date arrives, we'll know whether Savathûn - the queen of lies, mind you - really intends to renounce her pact with the Worm gods. Here's everything we know about The Witch Queen expansion in Destiny 2.

Turn-based RPGs – the best tactical RPGs on PC 2022

So you want to know about turn-based RPGs? While this list may have a lot in common with our guide to the best RPG games, tactical RPGs tend to focus more on squad-based combat and have roots in the classic tabletop RPGs of old. Games in this niche are often turn-based strategy games, though to make the distinction relevant we're focusing on games with more pronounced RPG features.

It's less about the story itself, and more about how your character or characters evolve over time as they interact with the narrative. The nature of progression and the choices you can make means that your abilities and journey may never quite be the same across multiple playthroughs, and unlike traditional RPGs there are more tools focused on tracking these changes and evolution over time. They're also about offering really robust combat mechanics and making best use of your squad as a team working towards a common goal.

Whether you're saving the entire planet or guiding a band of misfits around in a struggle for survival, there are plenty of great options available, so let's take a look at some of the best turn-based RPGs on PC.

There's no two ways about it: I'm a big old card-carrying Life Is Strange nerd. In other words, I am exactly the sort of fan the Life Is Strange: Remastered Collection is geared towards; so you may be surprised when I say that I'm not planning on picking it up anytime soon.

I'll be honest, I've been wary of the remasters of the first Life Is Strange title and its prequel Before The Storm ever since the first stills were released. Luminous Avenger IX 2 Makes Players Feel Powerful

The Azure Striker Gunvolt series always featured these strong characters. Which makes sense, as so many of them are Adepts. They're people who possess psychic septima powers that let them do extraordinary things. Copen, an ordinary Minos (human), always was exceptional too due to cybernetic enhancements. With Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2, we're able to see even more so how capable and powerful he's become.

The game begins with a familiar sort of set-up. Copen, Kohaku, and Lola are together. While Copen's researching a weapon, they hear a voice calling for help. It pulls all three into another world. There, a robot named Null assists and asks for their aid. Together, the four head to the Grave Pillar to find a way home. It also means a chance to learn more about its world and the Gravekeeper robots that remain. It's also, well, a chance to fight through all sorts of themed areas, acquiring new EX Weapons as he does. Which means, yet again, a very Mega Man sort of run-and-gun feel. You fight your way through spaces, hoping to do your best. As you do, you gradually get more powerful.

Luminous Avenger IX 2 Makes Players Feel Powerful

Copen isn't as much as a ranged character as Gunvolt. He's much more hands-on and visceral. Which you really feel with the Razor Wheel. It's up close. It's spinning. It's sharp. You really have to get in and attack. Copen is powering through his attacks. It makes you feel like you're pushing through areas, even if odds are overwhelming. Perhaps literally, considering one new move is the Recoil Dash. That's a dash that pushes foes back. (It's especially handy if an enemy is hogging platform space or hugging the edge near a gap.) When you head into Break-Shift, you're even better at doing all of that. Overdrive kicks in and you can do more damage and increase your score more.

Does that sound like brute forcing your way is an option in Luminous Avenger iX 2. Well, it kind of is! Healing options are two-fold here. Lola remains a supportive muse. Her Anthem could kick in if you die and revive you. But you don't have to get that far. Because she can use Healing Mode at any time. Press a button, select it, and Copen will be back at full health. Yes, it does bank your Kudos and put a stop to your momentum. But it's quite a boon in terms of accessibility. An optional healing ability never hurts. Plus, it still works thematically, as Copen just can't be stopped and keeps pushing through, with Lola attempting to keep up. (Also, if you do want a challenge, there is a hard mode with a life count you can unlock via finding bonus emblems.)

Luminous Avenger IX 2 Makes Players Feel Powerful

Not to mention the EX Weapons always feel satisfying. First, earning one feels great. You only get one after winning against a boss. However like the Mega Man series, you have some options when choosing which fight to take on next. So after the start, you can choose between Dacite's Volcano Block and Vespa's Jungle Block. And since Dacite is weak against the Whirling Chopper EX you get from Vespa, fighting her first can be a pretty good idea! Which means when you do head to the Volcano, you'll feel even better when Copen really tears into the boss.

The result is a game that really shows how Copen (and Lola) stand out. Throughout every stage, you're reminded of how powerful he is. And when you come across a new boss or opponent who might be a bit intimidating, you know you potentially have the opportunities to handle things the right way. The EX Weapons are there to help get you through. And even if you are having trouble, Lola's healing powers can help someone push through.

Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Artifactor and Maestra Join Phantom Breaker: Omnia Characters

There will be more playable characters in Phantom Breaker: Omnia at launch than expected. MAGES confirmed two more people will be available when the game appears. Both Artifactor and Maestra will be a part of the cast, and there's a new Phantom Breaker: Omnia trailer to show how they work.

The first new Phantom Breaker: Omnia character to appear is Maestra. She's voiced by Xanthe Huynh in English and Mai Sato in Japanese. She wields a rather large sword. If her name sounds familiar, it's because she is actually Maestro. That's the Fu-mension Artifact greatsword Mikoto wields.

At the 48 second mark of the Phantom Breaker: Omnia trailer, Artifactor shows up. She's a Reverant voiced by Cassandra Lee Morris and Yui Nakajima. She's the person who made the Fu-menison Artifacts and universe. She uses her powers to attack, rather than any sort of weapon.

Here's the full trailer.

As a reminder, the update to Phantom Breaker Extra will include more features than new characters. You can choose if you want an original or remixed soundtrack. There will also be Quick, Hard, and Omnia styles to choose from for fighters.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia will come to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 15, 2022.

Discord PlayStation

It's been several months since the PlayStation X Discord partnership was first announced, but the team-up has borne fruit. A new update on the official Discord Blog revealed Discord integration with the PlayStation Network has begun, so people can show what they're playing on a PS4 or PS5.

According to the blog entry, users on the PS4 and PS5 will be able to link their PSN accounts to Discord. This will enable them to display their game activity on those platforms within the Discord app. They'll also be able to display their PSN online IDs to their Discord friends. The blog brings up one specific benefit of this scenario: Players who play a cross-platform compatible game will be able to coordinate joining games more easily. The feature is "gradually" rolling out to Discord users.

To actually sign up for the PlayStation X Discord integration, the process is fairly simple and similar to other Discord service hookups. Players can connect their Discord and PlayStation Network accounts via the user settings page on mobile, web, or the desktop app. Once connected, Discord will then be able to show off players' PS4 and PS5 game activity in real-time.

One caveat: PlayStation users must set their PSN Online Status and "Now Playing" visibility settings (seein in the PSN privacy settings) to "Anyone". Otherwise, Discord won't be able to broadcast their status.

Discord is available on PC and mobile platforms. The PSN integration is in gradual rollout.

Pokemon Heal Ball Poke Ball Replica First of 4 New Models

More Poke Ball replicas are on the way. The Pokemon Company International and The Wand Company confirmed four more will appear in 2022. The first will be a Heal Ball. That $99.99 toy will show up sometime in "early" April 2022. Pre-orders are open at The Pokemon Center until April 1, 2022. It will be followed by the Cherish Ball, Friend Ball, and Quick Ball.

As with all of these stainless steel replicas, they use AAA batteries to respond to people's touch. The button will light up if you place your hand near it. Pressing its button causes it to light up as well. The case it can be placed in can also use batteries for additional lights.

The Wand Company's Poke Ball replica models first appeared back in 2020. Things started with a basic version in February 2020. However, in 2021 additional designs showed up. The Dark Ball, Great Ball, Premier Ball, and Ultra Ball showed up in The Pokemon Center as 2021 ended.

The Heal Ball Poke Ball replica will be the first variant in this latest wave. It is expected to ship in "early" April 2022. They will be sold in Australia, Europe, North America, and New Zealand.

FFXII The Zodiac Age Leaving Xbox Game Pass

The Xbox Game Pass Final Fantasy library is dwindling, as FFXII: The Zodiac Age is about to leave. The RPG joined the roster back in February 2021. One year later, it will leave the collection on February 15, 2022.

However, this doesn't mean people will see it disappear from game streaming services altogether. Rather, Final Fantasy games are transitioning from Xbox Game Pass to PlayStation Now. The new deal took effect in September 2021. Since then, as titles leave Microsoft's service, they end up showing up on Sony's.

Here are all the Xbox Game Pass games joining in February 2022.

  • February 3, 2022: Contrast (Cloud and Console), Dreamscaper (Cloud, Console, and PC), and Telling Lies (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • February 10, 2022: Besiege (Cloud, Console, and PC), CrossfireX (Console), Edge of Eternity (Cloud, Console, and PC), The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom (Cloud, Console, and PC), and Skul: The Hero Slayer (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • February 14, 2022: Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition (Cloud, Console, and PC) and Infernax (Cloud, Console, and PC)

And these are the Xbox Game Pass titles leaving alongside FFXII on February 15, 2022.

  • Code Vein (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Control (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • The Falconeer (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • FFXII: The Zodiac Age (Console and PC)
  • The Medium (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Project Winter (Cloud, Console, and PC)

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The original FFXII showed up on the PS2.

Shadow Warrior 3 release date marchFollowing a delay and a leak, Shadow Warrior 3 will indeed release this coming March. It was a mere two weeks ago we saw the release date leak via the Microsoft and PlayStation stores. While store leaks are sometimes correct, it pays to be a little skeptical. After all, any date found in storefronts can be mere placeholders. That's not the case with Shadow Warrior 3, which heads to a March 1 release date. At last, demon heads are about to roll. Alongside the release date news, apparently a couple characters in Shadow Warrior 3 will sound a bit different. Publisher Devolver Digital announced that Mike Moh is stepping in to replace Jason Liebrecht as Lo Wang. SungWon Cho will voice Orochi Zilla, replacing Eugene Lee. Andromeda Dunker is voicing Motoko, to be introduced in Shadow Warrior 3. Alex Dobrenko, however, will remain as the voice of Hoji.   Devolver and developer Flying Wild Hog also released a trailer featuring some of the new vocal talent. Longtime Shadow Warrior ...

Sony acquisitions DestinyJust yesterday, Sony announced its acquisition of Bungie, the developer behind the earlier Halo installments and the Destiny duology, in a staggering $3.6 billion USD deal. Not only does the deal have an element of surrealness to it, but it also comes mere weeks after Microsoft's plan to purchase Activision Blizzard blew up in the news and on social media. There still exists plenty of reasons to see Microsoft's acquisition as an overall net positive, at least for the near future, but with yet another major acquisition occurring so soon afterward, it seems that the rate of corporate consolidation in the gaming industry has increased to an alarming degree. And as it turns out, Sony has still not finished building its corporate empire, as CEO Jim Ryan teased that we can "expect more" acquisitions moving forward.   What else did he say? According to Ryan, both Sony and Bungie arranged this deal over the course of "the past five or six months," so...

Destiny 2 The Witch Queen weapons exoticsThe latest trailer for Destiny 2's upcoming expansion, The Witch Queen, shows off some exciting stuff. The trailer focuses on a few of the new weapons coming to the game, and provides a look at the weapon crafting system, which finally gives players greater control over their arsenal. Weapon crafting is a feature that has been eagerly anticipated by Destiny 2 players since its announcement. For a while now, the longevity and effectiveness of a player's equipment has depended on a swiftly changing meta, and frequent sunsetting of gear. With the arrival of weapon crafting, though, players should be able to have far more control over their loadouts.   Destiny 2's letting players have more power As of now, there aren't too many more details on weapon crafting beyond what we know already. The trailer did, however, show off some of the new exotics coming with the expansion. The first weapon shown off in the trailer is called the Grand Overture. This impressive...

pc game pass february 2022 skul ark control leavingWell, folks, it's officially February. If you had thought that 2022 wouldn't fly by as fast as 2021, you may be mistaken. Luckily, the start of every new month is something Game Pass subscribers can anticipate. Why? Because they get even more games on the service. February 2022 has begun, and there are nine games coming to PC Game Pass — that's just the first wave. Sadly, we're also going to say goodbye to some popular releases. Get ready, because Control, The Medium, and others are leaving PC Game Pass on February 15. It all starts with Contrast, which is coming in a couple short days. The 2013 game is a puzzle platformer inspired by vaudeville and film noir. You can download it on February 3.      Bloodborne PSX DemakeBloodborne has finally made its way over to PC, but not in the way that you might've expected. A 'demake' of FromSoftware's gothic horror title released at the start of the week. It's available for free now at the game's itch.io page, after taking around 13 months of hard work from its developer Lilith Walther (@b0tster on Twitter). The demake is an impressive feat in itself, and is a testament to the dedication of FromSoftware's fan base. As of now, BloodbornePSX only features Yharnam, the first zone in the original game. Not to say that it isn't an impressive accomplishment, because there's still quite a bit of content here to delve into. Players can experience the start of the game and play through to the Father Gascoigne encounter. The fight against the Cleric Beast is also present, so there's plenty to do. There are also a few changes to the level based on the purposefully designed limitations of the PSX aesthetic. Thi...
