Terraria 1.4.4 update introduces a huge change to building

The Terraria 1.4.4 update Labor of Love is almost here, and it already promises an almost unfathomable number of quality of life improvements for one of the best crafting games on PC. From a Terraria Void Bag rework that massively improves inventory space to a tweak bringing an end to corrupted Terraria jungle concerns forever, developer Re-Logic has gone above and beyond in service of its players - and it just announced another huge addition.

As revealed by Terraria YouTuber Khaios, the new Rubblemaker item is about to completely overhaul your base building potential by giving players access to just about every ambient background object - without cluttering up your inventory. If you've played Terraria, you'll be familiar with the incidental background rocks, shrubs, bone piles and such that can be found scattered around the environment. Some will drop items when destroyed with a pickaxe, while others can cause critters to spawn.

The Rubblemaker is a new item that can be bought from the Goblin Tinkerer after progressing your game state to hardmode by defeating the Wall of Flesh. With the Rubblemaker equipped, you can use collected resources to build just about any of those background objects - there's no requirement to collect them beforehand or store anything in your inventory except for the needed material, and you can quickly destroy them to get your resources back.

Leaving Valorant ranked games early can hurt your MMR, says Riot dev

Leaving Valorant ranked games early can hurt your MMR chances, explains a Riot dev who notes that your competitive ranking in the FPS game can actually still increase on a loss. MMR (Matchmaking Rating) is the hidden rating used alongside the visible RR (Rank Rating) in Valorant to help determine what skill level you belong at in the multiplayer game's competitive ranked modes.

Valorant senior competitive designer at Riot Jon 'EvrMoar' Walker has taken to Twitter with some useful information about how MMR works. Calculated separately from your Rank Rating, MMR doesn't reset between Episodes, Valorant's seasons, and it calculates values based on both your 'Encounter MMR' (how you perform against players on the enemy team) and 'Win/Loss MMR' (who you win and lose matches against).

The idea is that your hidden MMR helps Riot to determine where you should be each season. As such, if your current rank is higher than your MMR, you're likely to lose more Rank Rating on a loss and gain less on a win, because the system believes you're placed a little too high for your performance level. The reverse takes place if your current rank is lower than your MMR, in order to help give you a shove up the ladder.

Resident Evil Village DLC makes Castle Dimitrescu scary again

My time with Resident Evil Village Shadows of Rose was all too brief. Yet, despite walking through the familiar halls of Castle Dimitrescu, there's always a horrifying surprise hidden around every corner. What I played of the Shadows of Rose DLC is just as tense as the early moments of Resident Evil Village, and it honestly left me wanting more.

After rudely interrupting the 'Masked Marquis' as his minions overwhelm his latest victim, the new character, Rose, soon becomes his next target. It's not all doom and gloom, however, as some kind of spirit seems to be guiding her through the Mould-infested halls of Castle Dimitrescu by writing brightly coloured text in thin air. Occasionally, these words will transform into valuable items such as extra bullets or healing spray, just as well as the new monsters were a bit relentless at times.

Apex Legends skins tweaked as Respawn addresses P2W concerns

Some Apex Legends skins are being updated by Respawn as it aims to address community concerns about 'pay to win cosmetics.' EA's Apex Legends is one of the best battle royale games and has seen huge success off the back of its wide range of cosmetic microtransactions. However, a small number of weapon skins have drawn criticisms from players who felt that the ADS (aim down sights) felt superior to using other skins on the best Apex Legends guns.

In a post on its website, developer Respawn says, "Competitive integrity is and will always be a core pillar for Apex Legends. As part of that, our default iron sights are designed to push players to loot for better optics." It addresses iron sights directly, saying, "We also believe that skins shouldn't be a factor in the sights functionality."

Two specific examples of skins that are being adjusted are given. The first is the Heat Sink reactive skin for the VK-47 Flatline rifle. Respawn notes that "We heard feedback from some players that the ADS felt superior to any other skin available." Conversely, the Revelations skin for the Flatline from the Gaiden event has been given a tweak to improve visibility - the team explains that "We felt the side fins were creating larger blindspots than intended so we've reduced them to improve visibility when ADS."

Phantom Fury evokes Duke Nukem and Half-Life in a road movie FPS game

3D Realms has unveiled a Phantom Fury reveal trailer showcasing its Ion Fury sequel, a classic FPS game that looks to pull inspiration from the likes of Half-Life and the original Duke Nukem Forever reveal to craft a bombastic 'road movie FPS' adventure. Featuring the work of ex-Valve Half-Life concept artist Chuck Jones, who was brought in by 3D Realms to work on the project, Phantom Fury wears its love of classic PC games on its sleeve.

Phantom Fury sees protagonist Shelly 'Bombshell' Harrison pulled out of a coma and set on a journey across the United States in search of a dangerous artifact known as the Demon Core. Oh, we should mention that she now has a bionic arm too - because why not? Developer Slipgate Ironworks, led by former Rise of the Triad director Frederik Schreiber, promises "an incredible amount of interactivity" in the world, from fully usable computers and playable arcade machines to helicopter flights.

With over 20 weapons at your disposal, including returning favourites such as the hand-rolled Bowling Bombs and newcomers including "electrified foam shooting devices and eployable drones" should provide a ton of unique ways to approach situations. Plenty of unlockable skills and upgrades promise even more ways to customise your playstyle too - and you'll need it to go up against the weird and wonderful horrors that await you.

Castle Dimitrescu was one of the many highlights of Resident Evil Village, so it makes sense that Capcom are returning to it in the game's upcoming DLC adventure, Shadows Of Rose. Set 16 years after the events of Village, this story expansion centres on Rose, the daughter of Village protagonist Ethan Winters, as she comes to terms with her emerging mold powers. She was just a teeny, tiny baby when her dad was fighting off the very tall vampire lady in the base game, but now she's all grown up and wants to be rid of the supernatural spore abilities that have been plaguing her family ever since the events of Resident Evil 7.

It's not yet clear what role Lady D's castle has to play in Rose's journey, but man, it sure is nice to be back roaming its ornate hallways again. Or rather it would be, if it weren't for all the ashen mold men stalking its corridors, and its rather gross (but strangely hypnotic) rivers of undulating strawberry jam gore that have been plastered all over the walls, floor and ceiling. Ach, now it's on my shoes. Great. And the gate's locked behind me. Fantastic. I knew coming back here would be a bad idea…

harvestella characters

At TGS 2022, the Harvestella development team showed off videos for the game's various gameplay mechanics, as well as characters. Those who played the demo may already be familiar with some of the characters and farming features. The team will adjust the flow of in-game time for the final version of the game. It will become slower than what it is right now for the demo.

Unlike the relaxing and slow-paced atmosphere of most farming simulators, Harvestella will have a "cool, serious, and beautiful" worldview that sets it apart. Go Shiina's (Demon Slayer, Tales of Zestiria) music will help to set that mood. However, the team assures that you can play it at your own pace. You can take your time, or you can even attempt a time attack.

Since Harvestella is set in a fantasy world, the farming simulator aspects will also have some unrealistic parts to them. For example, the sprinklers look like orbs floating in the air. You can also use a fairy's power to collect all of the crops in an area at once. As you play through the main story, you can meet and befriend these fairies, who will help you on your farm. There are also different "biomes" where you can grow your crops. In the stream, there was a pool-like biome where crops like watermelons grew straight from the water.

Back in August 2022, during the Nintendo Treehouse Live, Square Enix revealed information on jobs. You can unlock new jobs by befriending a character with that job. Additionally, changing a job in battle also changes your clothes and weapons. While the stream at TGS 2022 did not reveal more about the job system outside of how certain weapons look in-game, it did show party members you can meet and recruit. Here are the Harvestella characters who appeared during the stream:

Aria (Scientist): A girl who has time traveled due to some accident. She is searching for a way to return home, as well as trying to solve the mystery of the Quietus, while living with the protagonist.

Asyl (Militia): A boy who lives in the city of Nemea. He was raised in the town orphanage and has a straightforward personality.

Istina (Orphanage caretaker): She does not show her emotions, and is quiet and logical. She likes to read and often reads to the children at the orphanage.

Emo (Tavern bard): A popular bard in a port city, and she has an otherworldly aura.

Heine (Inventor): A young man who spends all day in his coastal workshop and works on inventions. He is quick to hit on women, but they think he's weird, so he isn't successful.

Shrika (Pilgrim): A pilgrim of a religious order that worships the Seaslight. She solves cases as she wanders around the lands.

Brakka (Mercenary): A mercenary in a black outfit who uses a mysterious weapon that can shoot bullets. He'll do any job so long as you pay him, but it's rumored that his fees are exorbitant.

Dianthus (Omen): A member of the Omen race, which are said to be the reason behind the Quietus. The protagonist finds him in Higan Canyon and they travel towards the Fall Seaslight together.

You can raise your relationship with party members, as well as the village NPCs. Doing so will unlock new dialogue and other bonuses.

Harvestella will launch on November 4, 2022, for Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.

Fatal Frame The Mask of Lunar Eclipse remaster appeared from Maiden of Black Water success

Koei Tecmo's Fatal Frame development team confirmed that the success of Maiden of Black Water and requests from fans contributed to Mask of the Lunar Eclipse's remaster getting greenlit. During the Fatal Frame segment on Koei Tecmo's TGS 2022 live stream, the team left a message explaining the decision to produce the new remaster.

We have translated the message as follows:

Last year, the Fatal Frame series had its 20th anniversary. We had numerous considerations on what we could do to all the fans who have supported us up until then. As a result, we released a remaster of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water.

After some time passed from the release, it gathered much attention from everyone, and we received various kinds of opinions. We actually feel glad that people around the world hope to see a sequel and [other] series titles get released.

There are also people who started playing Fatal Frame with Maiden of Black Water, so we have the desire to convey more of the appeals from Japanese-style horror games. We decided to remaster and release Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, which was also requested a lot. It will take a bit more time until release, but we are currently developing it, so please wait until the release.

In an interview with Siliconera in October 2021, Koei Tecmo's Keisuke Kikuchi expressed interest in remastering another Fatal Frame title, although the company had no plans to release a compilation that includes multiple titles. The company announced in December 2021 that it had sold over 340,000 units of the Maiden of Black Water ports on all platforms combined worldwide.

Mask of the Lunar Eclipse originally appeared as a Japan-exclusive Wii title in 2008. The September 2022 Nintendo Direct was where the remaster was first announced worldwide. Shortly after the program, Koei Tecmo confirmed that it will also come to platforms other than the Switch.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. The new remaster of Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse will appear on the same platforms in early 2023.

valkyrie elysium dlc hildr seraphic gate

During the Square Enix presentation at TGS 2022, the development team for Valkyrie Elysium revealed that the Black Valkyrie, Hildr, will appear as a playable character in the Hildr's Vengeance DLC. Seraphic Gate and two new difficulty modes (Very Hard and Valkyrie) will also be free DLC content for Valkyrie Elysium. The PC version will come with all three.

Yui Ishikawa voices Hildr, the Black Valkyrie. Ishikawa previously portrayed Mikasa Ackerman in Attack on Titan, 2B in NieR:Automata, and Violet in Violet Evergarden. It is unclear at the moment when in Valkyrie Elysium the Hildr's Vengeance DLC scenario will take place. More information on Hildr's play style may appear in the future.

In the original Valkyrie Profile games, Seraphic Gate was an optional dungeon that players could attempt as post-game content. None of the Seraphic Gate dungeons had any connection to the story and instead had more humorous vibes. Valkyrie Elysium may follow this formula with Seraphic Gate appearing after you finish the main story.

There was also information on the Collector's Edition for Valkyrie Elysium. Aside from the game, you will be able to obtain an art book, the soundtrack, and acrylic stands of Valkyrie and Hildr. When Yui Ishikawa revealed herself as Hildr's voice actress, she showed off the Hildr acrylic stand. You will also be able to get a serial code for Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. This is available as a separate purchase as well.

Valkyrie Elysium will come out on September 29, 2022, for the PS4 and PS5. It will come out on Windows PC on November 11, 2022.

FFVII Tifa and Aerith Bring Arts action figures have NFT

Square Enix continues integrating NFT into its products, including figures. The company has revealed and opened pre-orders for new Bring Arts action figures of Tifa Lockhart and Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy VII. Both figures will come with digital certificates that users can redeem on a specific NFT platform.

The standard edition, which costs $129.99, will still include NFT in form of a digital certificate of authenticity. The $159.99 Digital Plus edition will add a ticket containing a code to obtain a digital version of the figure, viewable on an Augmented Reality (AR) gallery app. Users must redeem both the digital figure and certificate exclusively on the NFT platform Enjin. The store pages for the figures include disclaimer language absolving Square Enix of responsibility should the Enjin platform shut down - a distinct possibility in the highly volatile cryptocurrency environment.

Both figures will release earlier in North America in April 2023. Japan will get them much later—Tifa's figure will appear in the country on December 30, 2023, and Aerith's on January 27, 2024. Though other Bring Arts Tifa and Aerith figures exist, these have an appearance based on Tetsuya Nomura's original character art for the original Final Fantasy VII.

[gallery columns="2" ids="935892,935893" link="file"]

These NFT-toting figures of the two FFVII heroines will follow the title's protagonist, Cloud Strife. Square Enix revealed his figure first in July 2022. Pre-orders for both the regular and Digital Plus editions are still available as of this writing. The company will release Cloud's figure in November 2023.

The new Bring Arts action figures of Tifa Lockhart and Aerith Gainsborough are modeled after their appearances in the original Final Fantasy VII, which came out on the first PlayStation in 1997.

Street Fighter 6 World Tour

Capcom shared many more details about what it's doing with Street Fighter 6 in its special TGS 2022 stream last night, and among them was the beginning of Street Fighter 6 World Tour, the story mode for the game. Following the show it uploaded the World Tour opening movie to its YouTube channel for all to enjoy.

Check it out below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i5_-698S7A

Mostly featuring stylized text and a monologue to establish the tone of Street Fighter 6, the World Tour opening movie importantly reveals the full launch-day roster for the game. 18 characters will be available at launch. Many have been confirmed before, but a few are new or have yet to be detailed.

Here's the Street Fighter 6 launch roster list, in alphabetical order.

  • Blanka
  • Cammy
  • Chun-Li
  • Dee Jay
  • Dhalsim
  • E. Honda
  • Guile
  • Jamie
  • JP
  • Juri
  • Ken
  • Kimberly
  • Lily
  • Luke
  • Manon
  • Marisa
  • Ryu
  • Zangief

Players can also add a 19th fighter - one they create themselves to play Street Fighter 6 World Tour mode with. The beginning of World Tour mode was demonstrated during Capcom's stream. Players start by joining Buckler Basic, a training program run by Luke. There they enter character creation and choose one of many available appearance options. Players can create anything from a human-looking avatar to something completely off the wall. Their training session with Luke and an NPC avatar functions as the game's basic control tutorial. Following that, they're told to "Hit the streets" to roam Metro City in search of a good fight and new techniques.

Street Fighter 6 is in development and slated for release in 2023 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. PC and newer consoles will receive a closed beta in October 2022. Registrations are open now.

Zenless Zone Zero gameplay

Genshin Impact developer HoYoVerse showed off more from its latest project, Zenless Zone Zero, during its TGS 2022 Special Program livestream. The game last received a trailer to promote the beginning of its closed "Tuning Test" period. This latest Zenless Zone Zero gameplay trailer is the longest one yet, clocking in at over 18 minutes of story, combat, and exploration in the world of New Eridu.

Check it out below. English subtitles are available via the closed captions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhqWpnpO6NA

The Zenless Zone Zero gameplay trailer opens with Wise (voiced Atsushi Abe) and Belle (voiced by Sayaka Sembongi) bringing home some stock for their video store, Random Play. Random Play is also a cover business for their job as Proxies, people who enter the dangerous areas known as the Hollows. Meeting a customer outside the shop, Wise forgoes taking the job to chase down Belle, meeting with the owners of neighboring shops, and petting a nearby cat. Wise picks up some ramen from General Chop's stall (complete with an elaborate prep animation), and runs into a police blockade sealing off an area threatened by the Hollow. Thwarted, Wise consults Fairy, a management system, to contact assistance. Cut to the Cunning Hares, a group of Proxies consisting of Anby, Billy, and Nicole.

The scene transitions to the Hollow zone, showcasing Zenless Zone Zero combat gameplay. The system appears to be outwardly similar to that used by Honkai Impact 3rd, with an emphasis on three-character teams fighting in relatively closed arenas, rapid character-switching, and flashy combos. The button prompts match an Xbox controller's, though only PC and mobile platforms are confirmed for the game at this time. Though Cunning Hares clears the area, Belle is nowhere to be found. More investigation narrows her location, and another Proxy team is called in: Belobog Heavy Industries. Made up of Ben, Anton, and Koleda, the Belobog trio fight a large boss made out of a construction robot. Belle is saved once the boss is dispatched.

Zenless Zone Zero is in development, without a firm release window at this time. It's headed for PC and mobile devices.

Samurai Maiden TGS trailer

In its zeal to promote Samurai Maiden at TGS, D3Publisher opted to give people a history lesson. The latest trailer for the game contextualizes the adventures of modern schoolgirl Tsumugi Tamaori in the real true history of Japan.

Check it out below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOhhgSPY5IM

The new Samurai Maiden TGS trailer has Tsumugi hold forth on the reality behind Samurai, Ninja, life in the Sengoku era, and the relative cuteness of medieval Japanese warlords. The trailer also shows plenty of gameplay, as Tsumugi and her ninja pals caper around the battlefield. There they chop through hordes of historically accurate zombies, skeletons, and clockwork automatons to destroy the demon king. To do so they'll gain new power from affectionate intimacy, using the natural bond between ninja and samurai to unleash their true potential.

Samurai Maiden will also contain historically accurate depictions of the cutest warlords of Japan's warring states. The trailer introduces two of them. Her command of the war fan, prodigious strength, and unstoppable cavalry, Shingen Takeda was known as the (palmtop) Tiger of Kai. Meanwhile, the Dragon of Echigo wowed all comers with her inimitable martial prowess. Finally, the documentary recapped the famed incident at Honnoji, when in 1582 the famed warlord Nobunaga Oda was brought low. He got better, though, and devoted his energy to  defeating the demon lord below the burning temple.

Samurai Maiden 4

Samurai Maiden launches on December 1, 2022 for PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch in Japan. It'll launch outside Japan and on PC everywhere on December 8, 2022. Pre-orders will net the above "Gal-type School Uniform" cosmetic skin for Tsumugi.

Incision Worth It 1When it comes to throwback FPS games made by a single person, the bar is surprisingly high. Mostly because of the guy that made Dusk, though. Incision is another such game with a pretty nasty twist that you'll either love or will completely turn you off of the game. It just entered Early Access and brings with it its first episode. The game is supposed to spend six months to a year in EA prior to full release, so there's a ways to go yet. But the question stands: is Incision worth it in Early Access, or should you prep more before you make the first cut? From a brief look, it's obvious that Incision is trying to elicit the same response as Quake, Blood, and, yes, Dusk. The visuals are very. . . rusty, bringing to mind filthy metal that's likely to make you itch for a tetanus shot. You play some dude who's caught in/trying to destroy a group of what I can only imagine are organic creatures that are cybernetically enhanced against their wills to joi...

Diablo Immortal warbands changing with RPG's next patch, says Blizzard

Diablo Immortal warbands changes are on the way, says the fantasy game's lead designer Wyatt Cheng of Blizzard in an update discussing the multiplayer group system. Diablo Immortal warbands have been a point of much controversy among the playerbase. Frustrated by the necessity of having all eight members of your warband online simultaneously for certain activities in the RPG game, many players have called for the system to instead be integrated into clans.

Diablo Immortal lead designer Wyatt Cheng addresses player feedback in a post on the game's subreddit. He notes four major concerns with warbands - the requirement to use them for certain aspects of play, the eight-player requirement, the value of warband rewards, and the gameplay experience offered by warband activities - and takes time to address each point individually.

First on the table is the requirement for warbands in certain activities that can interfere with progress in other areas of the game. Cheng admits that "if you aren't participating in warbands it can be frustrating to find other systems that require participation in order to continue." These include areas such as the Codex and the Hero's Journey - both of which previously had steps where warbands are required. Cheng notes that some steps have already been taken to address this, and the issue is still being monitored.

HoYoVerse showcased Honkai Star Rail, its new game, during its 2022 Tokyo Game Show livestream event. The Honkai Star Rail TGS demo showcased story moments from the opening of the game, including selecting the protagonist's gender. Combat, exploration, and more were also shown.

Though it shares a brand name with Honkai Impact 3rd, Star Rail isn't directly connected to that game. That said, it shares a multiversal connection of sorts, featuring characters with familiar names and faces, but who aren't the same ones seen in Honkai Impact - unless they are, such as in the case of the character Welt, whom HoYoVerse confirmed is the same character Honkai Impact players know. Characters like March 7th, Dan Heng, and others have also been introduced.

The new Honkai Star Rail TGS demo, which included scenes and footage seen in other trailers, saw the player in control of Bronya (another character with a familiar name and look) exploring her home planet. She walked around and interacted with NPCs in a fashion similar to Genshin Impact. The footage also included shots of the game's turn-based combat system. The combat section of the demo also showed off character ultimate attacks. HoYoVerse launched a gallery to showcase the animations on its community site. Button prompts were from a PlayStation controller, which suggests that console versions may be in the works, though HoYoVerse has not officially announced platforms other than PC and mobile.

Check out some captures from the Honkai Star Rail TGS 2022 stream in the gallery. Some of the initial cutscene can be viewed at this link.

Honkai Star Rail is in development for PC and mobile devices. It does not have a release date, but has gone through at least two closed beta phases at the time of this writing. Check out Jenni's impressions of the game from the May 2022 round of testing.

dragon ball breakers beta farmer buu

Sweets lovers, ready your Scouter, as Majin Buu and the Farmer will make their appearances in Dragon Ball: The Breakers. Buu will appear as a Raider while the Farmer is a Survivor. As well, Bandai Namco will be holding an open beta for Dragon Ball: The Breakers from September 21 to September 25, 2022. Eligible platforms are the PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Windows PC (through Steam).

While the notice says that more information on the open beta is on the website for Dragon Ball: The Breakers, it is not there as of the time of writing. However, since it is an open beta, there will likely not be any strict requirements in order to participate. It will run from September 21 (6:00 PM) to September 25, 2022 (1:00 AM) PST.

You can watch the trailer for Majin Buu and the Farmer as they will appear in Dragon Ball: The Breakers here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B6Pbb3CMmw

Buu can transform through his different forms, with each form likely having different skills or specs. It is a bit more unclear what the Farmer can do. But in the trailer, you can see him plow the Earth with other Survivors, and he is holding onto a shotgun.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers will be a departure from most other Dragon Ball games as an asymmetric online co-op game in the vein of Dead by Daylight or Identity V. The story follows citizens in a Temporal Seam, along with a Raider from another timeline. They must use the Super Time Machine to escape the Temporal Seam while avoiding the Raider, who can grow stronger as time passes.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers will come out on October 14, 2022 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.

disgaea 7 header

NIS has revealed some more about Disgaea 7, the latest entry in the franchise. A recent update to the game's official site and details covered in the Sega/Atlus TGS 2022 broadcast unveiled new info regarding new systems, classes, and characters.

The game takes place in a setting more explicitly stylized after the Japan, the "Hinomoto Netherworld", where various unique Netherworldly dimensions are grouped together (such as a Hot Spring Netherworld and a Sardine Netherworld). But Hinomoto has changed. The arrival of the Demon Admiral Opener and his army has left the Hinomoto without its "Bushido". Fuji, a lone warrior who hates Bushido, and Piririka, a Bushido nerd, must fight together to unite the Seven Original Blades and restore pride to the land.

In addition to the ten Disgaea character classes detailed, two more were added: the female Maiko and the male Thief.

The Maiko class of characters can charm opponents, as well as deal extra damage to male units. As for the Thief, he plays similar to the existing female version. He can steal treasure, as well as find rare items from chests.

[gallery columns="2" ids="935870,935871" link="file"]

The Item Reincarnation system will be new for Disgaea 7. There are no limits to what items you can Reincarnate. For example, you can turn a healing item into a sword. You can also move weapon-exclusive skills to new types. You could Reincarnate a sword from a spear and let it keep a spear move. Like with how the Reincarnation system works for characters, the more times you Reincarnate, the stronger the item becomes.

The second new system for Disgaea 7 is Dodeka Max. Characters become so big that they literally cannot fit on the map. Their range will extend to the entire map. As well, because their attack becomes an AoE move, they can hit multiple enemies with a normal attack. You will only be able to open giant treasure chests with a Dodeka Max character.

Each character will have a field effect called "Dobility." While the character is in Dodeka Max mode, all of the characters on the field will be able to use this passive Dobility. Some Dobilities include "Heal HP by 20% at the end of each turn" or "Increase DMG by 20%." There can be four Dodeka Maxed characters on the field at once.

[gallery link="file" ids="935877,935876,935875"]

While not a new system, Disgaea 7 will implement ranked matches for the first time. It will not be a live, simultaneous PvP system, though. Instead, it's asymmetrical. You will create a team and set the various AI behaviors for the characters, and then others can challenge you when they want to. Stages and rules will change after a set period of time. For instance, there may be a period where you can only put male characters in your ranked party. You will get points based on how well you do, and you can spend those points in the Rank Shop.

[gallery columns="2" ids="935874,935873" link="file"]

Disgaea 7 will come out on January 26, 2023 in Japan on the PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Global release plans have not yet been announced. Those at TGS 2022 right now can play a demo of Disgaea 7 at Sega's booth.

PSVR2 Backwards compatible

Sony's new PSVR2 isn't backwards compatible with existing PSVR games. Sony executive Hideaki Nishino confirmed the lack of PSVR2 backwards compatibility in an interview on the Official PlayStation Podcast. You can check out the podcast at this link. The podcast episode covers other PSVR2-related topics, like the headset and controller design, PSVR2-specific games like Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Tuesday's State of Play reveals.

Here's a transcription of the quote from Nishino, which can be found at the 29-minute mark.

PS Podcast Host: I've been getting some questions from some friends and some gamers, just about whether or not they may be able to play original PlayStation VR games on PlayStation VR 2, so...what say you?

Hideaki Nishino: PSVR Games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience. PSVR2 has much more advanced features like [an] all-new controller with haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers as I said, inside-out tracking, eye tracking, [the] 3D audio is coming together, and HDR, of course. So this means that developing games for PSVR2 requires a whole different approach than PSVR.

When it was first released in 2016, the original PSVR hardware used significantly different techniques for managing head- and hand-tracking compared to its competitors at the time. At the time, leading-edge setups like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive used infrared sensors to track controllers. The PSVR instead used a set of visible lights on the headset tracked by the PlayStation Camera and existing, PS3-era PlayStation Move controllers. While this cut costs and made the hardware more affordable, PSVR's tracking proved to be a consistent weak point compared to its competitors. And as PC-based VR solutions often led the way in development, porting games to PSVR often involved compromises as the hardware was left further behind.

PSVR2's technological base is more in line with modern PC-based VR solutions, like the Meta Quest 2 (a.k.a. Oculus Quest 2) and Valve Index. Combined with the PS5 hardware, this could account for the lack of backwards compatibility on PSVR2. It'll also include new games designed for the system, such as Horizon Call of the Mountain, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2, and Demeo, which was announced at Sony's State of Play broadcast. Resident Evil Village will also have PSVR2 compatibility, similar to the PSVR support held by Resident Evil 7. The hardware is available to try at the ongoing 2022 Tokyo Game Show. Andrew tried out Resident Evil Village in VR, and you can check out his experience in our Day 2 Show Floor Roundup.

Check out a trailer for Demeo below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kVLIo2U-TE

The PSVR2 hardware will launch in early 2023 on PS5. Sony has not confirmed its price point, but Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan said in May 2022 that "over 20 major games" will be available at launch.

Suikoden I&IIThe classic Konami JRPGs Suikoden I&II are getting a remaster and are headed to Steam in 2023. Suikoden is a classic JRPG, first released in 1995.
