Episode five of HBO's The Last of Us marks the midpoint of our nine-episode journey. That's right, we're halfway there, and Ellie and Joel are definitely living on a prayer. Look, I'm sorry for the bad Bon Jovi reference but man, this episode is The Last of Us at its most relentlessly bleak. I needed to do something…

I like a lot of Double Fine's games, but none as much as I like the documentary which charted the development of Broken Age. I can't get enough of watching funny, smart, creative people work, and Double Fine Adventure offered a one-of-a-kind, candid and thorough glimpse of game development.

It was one-of-a-kind until yesterday, when Double Fine released PsychOdyssey, a 32-episode documentary series charting the creation of Psychonauts 2. Each episode is typically between 20 minutes and an hour long, and I've had a great time watching the first three so far.

These come quite a while after the Sonic Nendoroid. Good Smile Company first released it back in 2012, Then with 2013 and 2020 rereleases.

The most recent Sonic the Hedgehog game is Sonic Frontiers. While Tails and Knuckles both appear in the title, they aren't playable yet. A free update in 2023 will make the two of them and Amy Rose into playable characters.

Suzume Iwato Figure and Suzume and Sota Nendoroids Announced

More Makoto Shinkai movie characters are getting turned into figures. Good Smile Company announced three more at WonHobby 36 from Suzume. An unpainted prototype of a Suzume Iwato Pop Up Parade figure appeared, as did a reveal of Nendoroids of both Suzume and Sota Munakata.

First, here's the unpainted prototype figure. It is technically a figure of both Suzume and Sota, since she's carrying the "chair" in it.

Next, here's the announcement of the Suzume and Sota Nendoroids. There's no concept art for either of them yet. Only the official movie art appeared in the tweet.

As a reminder, Makoto Shinkai's proved quite a success in Japan. It ended up earning over 1.88 billion yen in its first three days in theaters. It was also nominated for a Japan Film Prize. It will still be some time before it appears worldwide, as Crunchyroll announced it will show up in theaters in the UK and US starting on April 12, 2023.

The Danganronpa 2 Mikan Tsumiki Figure Doesn't Look Too Clumsy

People can get a closer look at the Danganronpa 2 Mikan Tsumiki Pop Up Parade figure. Good Smile Company showed off a painted prototype of it at WonHobby 36. This marks the first appearance of it since the company revealed it was in development back at WonHobby G 2022 Autumn. At that time, it only featured a piece of art announcing she was being made into a figure.

Here's how Mikan is turning out. At the time it was announced in 2022, only standard character art was used. This is the first time we have an idea of her pose. She is wearing the same sort of nurse uniform as she does in Danganronpa 2. This is a nod to her being the Ultimate Nurse. While she doesn't seem clumsy in the pose, she does have bandages on her arm and leg.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is available worldwide on the PS4, Vita, Switch, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices. It also appeared on the PSP in Japan. There's no release window yet for the Danganronpa 2 Mikan Tsumiki Pop Up Parade figure.

New Street Fighter Chun-Li Figure Looks Like She's Thinking

Good Smile Company has another Street Fighter Chun-Li figure in the works, and this one looks like she's thinking. An unpainted prototype showed up at WonHobby 36. It features her wearing her standard qipao, like she does in many entries in the series. She's sitting on the edge of a piece of wreckage.

Here's a closer look at this Chun-Li Street Fighter figure. While it is unpainted, her eyes are finished. It is a scale figure, though the exact size wasn't specified in the announcement.

This isn't an unusual announcement or reveal. Good Smile Company's worked on a number of Street Fighter figures. This includes quite a few of Chun-Li. For example, there is a Pop Up Parade figure of her in this exact same outfit. The company also recently opened pre-orders for a Nendoroid of the character. It included pieces that would allow people to make it look like she's using some of her iconic attacks.

Chun-Li's next appearance will be in Street Fighter 6. It will appear on June 2, 2023 on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and PC. There's no release window for this new figure yet.

Next VShojo Figures Are Kson and Amemiya Nazuna Nendoroids

Good Smile Company is working on two more Vshojo figures, and as its WonHobby 36 Nendoroid announcements included ones of Kson and Amemiya Nazuna. Both of the Vtubers are fairly recent additions to the Vshojo roster. They joined the company in July 2022. As their figures are early in development, only concept art appeared.

First, here's a look at the upcoming Vshojo Kson figure. She was an independent Vtuber before she joined the company.

Next, here's how the Amemiya Nazuna Vshojo Nendoroid might end up looking. She was "new" before joining the group.

These will be the third and fourth Vshojo Nendoroids. The first one was of Nyatasha Nyanners. Later, an Ironmouse one appeared too. There are also Nyanners and Veibae Pop Up Parade figures being made by Good Smile Company.

Tales of Arise Shion Figure Will Look Like She's Playing a Flute

Good Smile Company is working on a Tales of Arise Shion Pop Up Parade figure. The company announced it at WonHobby 36. Only preliminary concept art appeared. It noted that she'll be wearing more formal attire, rather than one of her outfits from the game.

Here's the reveal that the Shion figure is in the works. As this is a concept, the final pose might not exactly resemble the art.

If this concept art looks familiar, that's because it seems this Tales of Arise Shion figure will be based on official art for a concert. Back in 2021, Bandai Namco announced a Tales of Orchestra 25th Anniversary concert. As it was going to include songs from Tales of Arise, the promotional art included pictures of characters from the game dressed formally and ready to perform. For example, Alphen was in a tuxedo with a baton, and Shion was wearing this red dress and playing a flute.

This isn't the only figure inspired by the series to appear recently. Kotobukiya recently showed off a Dohalim one that is in development.

Tales of Arise is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and there's no release window for this Shion Pop Up Parade figure yet.

The dolls will be of the Forgers, with Yor getting two variants. Damien will only be available as a Nendoroid.

Persona 5 Royal Joker Nendoroid Doll, Kasumi Nendoroid Figures Coming

Two new Persona 5 Royal figure announcements were among the Good Smile Company WonHobby 36 reveals, with a Joker Nendoroid Doll and Kasumi "Violet" Yoshizawa Nendoroid confirmed. Both are in an early stage. As such, there are no prototypes. Rather, only art appeared alongside the announcements.

First, here's the Persona 5 Royal Joker Nendoroid Doll reveal. As a reminder, a Nendoroid Doll is slightly larger than a normal Nendoroid, is jointed, and comes with fabric clothing you can remove and change. The concept art notes Joker will be in his Phantom Thief attire.

Next, here's the concept art for the Kasumi Persona 5 Royal Nendoroid. Like the Joker Nendoroid Doll, she'll be in her Phantom Thief wear, rather than a school uniform.

Persona 5 Royal is available now on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Good Smile Company didn't note when people can expect the Persona 5 Royal Joker Nendoroid Doll or Kasumi "Violet" Yoshizawa Nendoroid figures to appear.

Guilty Gear Strive Bridget Figure Shown, Nendoroid Announced

At WonHobby 36, Good Smile Company showed an in-progress picture of a Guilty Gear Strive's Bridget Pop Up Parade figure prototype and announced a Nendoroid of the character. The figure is further along, as it appeared in a painted state. Only concept art of the Nendoroid showed up.

First, here's how the Bridget figure looks so far. She's wielding her yo-yo in it.

Next, here's the announcement for the Guilty Gear Strive Bridget Nendoroid. Roger is shown in the art, but it's uncertain if the bear will be included.

The last Guilty Gear character to get a Nendoroid was Dizzy.

This isn't the only piece of Good Smile Company Bridget merchandise to recently appear. The company also announced a plush toy of the character. Pre-orders for it are open ahead of its Summer 2023 debut.

There won't only be the Monika Nendoroid anymore, as Good Smile Company showed off painted prototypes of the Doki Doki Literature Club Monika Pop Up Parade figure and Natsuki Nendoroid at WonHobby 36. Both seem like pre-orders could appear rather soon, as each one is completely painted.

First, here's how the Monika Doki Doki Literature Club Pop Up Parade figure looks so far. She's holding a pen and features a cheerful expression.

Next, here's how the Doki Doki Literature Club Natsuki Nendoroid is turning out. None of her accessories are shown in her preliminary pose. This figure was announced back in May 2022.

Here's How the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Mio Figma Figure Looks

At WonHobby 36, Good Smile Company shared an update on the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 figma Mio, as an unpainted prototype figure appeared. This meant that people could see her in one potential pose while wielding her chakram weapons. There's no release date for her yet.

Here's a closer look at how she is turning out. This Mio figma is based on her default look in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. This means she's using her Zephyr class with usual chakram. She has one equipped in each hand.

We've known this Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Mio figure is in the works for quite some time now. Both the figma and a 1/7th scale one were announced back in August 2022. At the time, due to how early in development they were, only concept art appeared at Smile Fest 2022. There's still no sign of the 1/7th scale version of the heroine just yet. The company also didn't note if any other members of the cast will get their own figures.

There's no word yet on when the Mio figma will be released. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch.

Best Forspoken Gear Cloaks Nails Necklaces

Getting the right gear is a staple of RPG-style character progression, and Forspoken's no stranger to "gear lust". But rather than the usual assemblage of helmets, armor, and weapons you might find in a typical fantasy game, Luminous Productions has leaned into the fact that Frey Holland's greatest weapon in Athia comes from her magic. Using her spells and the protective abilities of her talking vambrace Cuff, she brings war to the Tantas on their own terms. To add to that witchy feeling, the Best Forspoken gear items take the form of items suited to outfitting a magically-empowered demigod. Here's our quick guide to selecting the right items for you as you traipse around Athia.

Forspoken Cloaks

What are the best Forspoken gear items and how do I optimize them?

Frey's gear in Forspoken comes in three varieties: Cloaks, Necklaces, and Nail Art. You'll earn them all over Athia, most often as rewards from activities. You'll be able to see which activity earns what kind of reward by checking the icon. The purple icon will indicate if you haven't earned an activity's reward yet, as well as what type of reward it is. A few items are also given out as quest rewards, or unlocked out in the open world.

Cloaks and Necklaces are the most flexible gear pieces in Forspoken. This is because each cloak or necklace carries a unique perk. For example, the Orison necklace you can earn early in the game will restore a bit of health when you defeat an enemy.

However, one convenient thing about Forspoken's gear system is that once you unlock a cloak or necklace and its perk, you can place that perk on any other cloak or necklace you own by spending resources at a Crafting Table. You can even replace the perks on the gear that originally had them, to fully customize its properties to your liking. As such, if you find a particularly appealing-looking cloak or necklace, you can keep it upgraded throughout the game by transferring the best perks from other pieces you earn as you go through Athia.

Keep in mind, though: Perks don't "stack", so you can't boost an effect by having multiple copies of the perk occupying the slots. It's best to run with a diverse setup of different perks to have a broad spread of benefits.

As for nail art, the patterns you can earn aren't upgradeable in the same way as cloaks and necklaces, but they do give out bonuses when equipped that are tailored to certain playstyles. You can equip two patterns at a time, so pick your favorites and set them to suit how you like to use your spells.

What are the best Forspoken cloaks and where do I find them?

There are so many cloaks and capes to find in Athia that the selection can get overwhelming. However, the main thing to remember is that nearly every cloak has just three perk slots, and if you've got the resources on hand, you can transfer any combination of perks to any cloak. There no single "best" cloak to get, just the best perks and stats your resources and exploration can unlock.

Except...that's not completely true. In light of Forspoken's customization-friendly gear system, there is, in fact, a best cloak.

It's this one: The Veriment Cloak. You can get it by completing the Locked Labyrinth challenge dungeon in the Visorian Isthmus section of Visoria.

Veriment Cloak

The Veriment cloak comes with a good set of perks attached, which boost Frey's damage, Surge Magic recharge speed, Critical Hit Rate, and Stamina Recharge when her health is low. But the real benefit of using the Veriment Cloak is the fact that unlike every other cloak in the game, it has four perk slots. That's the most perk slots of any cloak in the game, giving you a full extra perk's worth of advantage.

Of course, you'll have to unlock other cloaks to add their perks to your available options, then gather materials to fund both the upgrades to general stats and installing the perks themselves, making the Veriment Cloak more of a late-game all-purpose garment. Here's a quick list of a few other cloaks that caught our eye, why they're good, and where to find them.

  • Unstoppable
    • Unlocked by clearing the Militis Academy scouting mission in Praenost.
      • Unstoppable's perks reduce your fall damage (great when running around) and increase your spell damage when parkouring (essential in a fight)
  • Pelerine
    • Unlocked by purchasing it at the doll vendor for 1 Poppet doll (obtained from "Follow the Cat" detours in Cipal).
      • Pelerine is a great early-game cloak, with a large stamina bonus in its base stats. It also lets critical hits restore health, giving you a bit of safety cushion while you come to grips with the combat.
  • Puissant
    • Unlocked by clearing Locked Labyrinth: Cliff in Praenost's Citadel region.
      • Puissant's perk boosts your Surge Magic recharge rate when you're outnumbered. Think about it: Other than Cuff: Frey acts alone in Athia. Your Surge magic is also a great tool against large crowds of enemies, making it easier to use when you're in a pinch.

Forspoken Necklaces

What are the best Forspoken necklaces and where do I find them?

Forspoken necklaces work pretty similarly to cloaks, in that unlocking necklaces adds perk options to your database, which can be transferred or copied over to another necklace. Unlike cloaks, though, you can upgrade Necklaces to increase their perk slots and change their appearances. In fact, many necklaces share perks with cloaks, and some are applicable across categories.

There's no necklace like the above Veriment Cloak in Forspoken, which has four perk slots. All have the same maximum number, so your decisions will hinge on looks, stats, and whether they come in with appealing perks.

With that in mind, the best Forspoken necklace is Home Sweet Hell.

Home Sweet Hell

Home Sweet Hell has the best base stats in the game, with good bonuses across the board to all categories of magic. It also unlocks a killer unique perk that restores stamina when you attack while parkouring. Unfortunately, though, it's a bit of a pain to unlock.

Home Sweet Hell can be obtained by visiting the "Curiosity Shop" in Inner Visoria. You'll then need to purchase the "Sewing Kit" item for 64 Old Coins. This unlocks a crafting recipe for the Necklace, as well as for the Unbroken cloak. Once you craft it, Home Sweet Hell is yours to keep and modify.

There are a few other necklaces you can unlock to hold Home Sweet Hell's place as you go through the game, though. Here are some of our favorites.

  • Orison
    • Unlocked by completing Locked Labyrinth: East in the Barren Plains area near Cipal.
      • Orison unlocks the ability to restore health from destroying an enemy, a good safety net for early and mid-game fights before you've built up your supply of healing draughts.
  • Balle Balle
    • Unlocked from completing the Place of Prayer in Junoon's Sacred Peaks area.
      • Balle Belle comes with 3 excellent perks that increase your Critical Hit rate when you cast in quick succession, improves your Surge Magic recharge when your HP is high, and adds an auto-heal effect when you're recovering from a defenseless state (such as taking a big hit and temporarily losing the ability to block).
  • Sooth
    • Unlocked in Locked Labyrinth: South, located in Visoria's Homestead Hills.
      • Sooth is a good "general purpose" necklace, coming with decent stats and three perks that boost your three magic types (Attack, Support, and Surge) when your stamina's full.
  • Sarka
    • Unlocked by completing the Ruins of Pagus activity in Praenost's Citadel area.
      • Sarka doesn't have much in the way of distinctive stats, but it does have a great perk that boosts Support magic damage across the board. Support magic spells are excellent damage-dealers, and a perk that boosts them all is invaluable in any situation.

Nail Designs Forspoken

What are the best Forspoken nail designs and where do I find them?

As far as the best Forspoken gear items go, your gear choices are largely determined by your play style and preferences. The same holds true for nail designs. You can equip one for each hand in Forspoken, and you can unlock them the same way you unlock cloaks and necklaces: Via activities, treasure chests, and quests.

Unlike cloaks and necklaces, though, the benefits of a given nail design are  fixed, and in some cases they have a trade-off, like boosting one type of magic while reducing the effectiveness of another. Additionally, you need to pay a small amount in resources whenever you change nail designs. Thus you'll want to choose carefully: Either boost your favorite spell types, or select for a more broadly applicable general boost to effectiveness across the board. I favored the latter approach, because a one-size-fits-all angle let me focus more on the combat and traversal than messing around in gear menus.

Here are a few of my favorite Forspoken nail designs.

  • Amped
    • Unlocked by completing the Ruins of Calme area in Avoalet.
      • Amped gives you a boost to damage when surrounded by enemies, and adds 5% to Frey's magic damage output. This is great because you're always outnumbered, and Frey's magic is the most versatile magic type.
  • Fatale
    • Fight and destroy the Gigas, an enemy located in the Rock Beds in Praenost's Mount Garrison area.
      • Fatale makes it easier to knock down enemies, based on the number of spells Frey's learned, along with giving a flat bonus to all spell damage. Knockdowns are good because you can use them to unleash Killer Blows. Easier knockdowns also make certain spell challenges simpler to complete.
  • Lit
    • Unlocked in Visoria's Tanta's Demesne area, after completing the Zakto Village scouting mission.
      • Lit gives you a universal boost to damage if your Surge magic is fully charged. Since Surges are usually reserved for big groups and bosses, you'll probably hold onto one most times, so you'll benefit from a high uptime on the buff. You'll also have a general boost to all spell damage.
  • Flaunt
    • Flaunt can be found in Visoria's Yonder Cape area, unlocked by completing the Fort Gabb sidequest.
      • Flaunt boosts your damage when your HP is high, which it always should be.

Forspoken is available on PS5 and PC. Check out Siliconera's review of the game, or our guide to unlocking the "Cat Person" achievement/trophy.

lycoris recoil anime

A new anime for Lycoris Recoil is in production, with a short trailer for it appearing on A-1 Pictures's YouTube channel. The video mostly uses clips of the first series, detailing the relationship between Chisato and Takina throughout the twelve episodes. As well, the voice-over for the trailer has them expressing their gratitude for each other. [Thanks, Crunchyroll!]

You can watch the announcement trailer for the new Lycoris Recoil anime here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R365_tkFBg

There are not a lot of details as of yet. The Twitter account for the Lycoris Recoil anime refers to it as a "new animation" rather than a second season. So it is still unclear if it is a continuation of the first series or if this is a new project. The words that appear in the trailer mention that Takina and Chisato's story is not over yet, as well as bring up the special moments they've accumulated together and the future they chose.

Lycoris Recoil was an original action anime from A-1 Pictures that ran from July to September 2022. It follows Takina, who is part of the all-female assassin and spy group 'Lycoris,' and her new position as Chisato's partner. Lycoris had assigned Takina to Chisato due to Takina jeopardizing her colleagues on a mission. The two of them work undercover in a cafe, though Takina wants to return to her old agency.

The new anime for Lycoris Recoil is in production and more information will appear for it in the near future. Other ongoing projects from A-1 Pictures include the NieR Automata anime and Fate/strange Fake.
