You can find many secrets in your first year at the famed school of witchcraft and wizardry, but perhaps the most mysterious is Henrietta's Way, one of the many dungeons scattered around the late-game areas of the Scottish Highlands. Despite first appearances, these catacombs house one of the more fiendish puzzles for a young wizard or witch to solve. Upon entering Henrietta's Way, one of the many secret areas of the open-world-game, you'll see a dice on a pedestal and an empty pedestal to its left. Turn to the left to see an unlit brazier. Ignite it with any of your fire-based Hogwarts Legacy spells to activate the mechanism within, and rotate the pillar to reveal a hidden dice. Cast Wingardium Leviosa and move the cube to the empty pedestal. Finally, you need to activate the dice by casting Incendio on the dice you brought over and Glacius on the one to its right. Enter the next chamber and defeat the Ashwinders inside. Head upstairs and turn left to find a shifting floor trap, which you can disable by casting Arresto Momentum. Beat the Ashwinders in the next room before casting Revelio to find the hidden chamber and claim its musical map, which starts the Solved by the Bell quest. PCGamesN Thursday, February 16, 2023 2:47 PM  As a diehard Monster Hunter fan, I want to give Wild Hearts more of a chance. It's a gorgeous-looking action game in which you can fight gargantuan behemoths with some ridiculously powerful and, at times, unorthodox weapons. The monsters' savage attacks require you to use the game's unique Karakuri system to defend yourself. It's got a lot of potential, and I wish I liked it so much more, but unfortunately, constant performance issues make those fights feel like trudging through a boggy swamp when they should be snappy and action-packed. This is a massive shame because, in premise, what I've played of Wild Hearts so far feels as fresh as my first time playing Monster Hunter World. You take on the role of a nameless hunter who arrives in the Azuma region only to fall in battle against an icy wolf, one of the many Wild Hearts monsters, or 'Kemono'. As your hunter lays dying, a masked man seems to put something inside of them, enabling them to use long-forgotten Karakuri - ancient technology that hunters from years gone by utilised to control the beasts. Unlike some games, Veil Of Dust doesn't make it sound like any sort of concession; the middle difficulty is called Challenge, and says "it's pretty tough - you've been warned". I took the warning seriously, and thank God, because even the easiest difficulty had me pouring dandelion tea down my brother's throat like he was doing a kegstand (and in the game). Áine and Shane are a pair of Irish siblings who've moved to Oregon to start a new life, which, in the main story, involves eating potatoes and trying not to get depressed. It's difficult enough that I didn't think I would like it at first, as even basic tasks deplete your stamina and sleeping in your 1860s hovel with a hole in the roof doesn't restore very much per night. Áine can do spells, but they're simple and only really take the edge off what is a very hard life. Magic isn't a cure-all in Veil Of Dust, and using it has to be weighed up, just like everything else. |

In the... uh, semi-heady fog of 2019 came the news that it was getting a remake, and I was muchly excited, for in the interim I'd actually learned the original existed and how good and somehow unrivalled it still was. And finally, in the slight damp of late 2022, that remake arrived. It is a remarkably faithful remake, to a degree I may not ever have seen for such an old game. Some details and flourishes aside, it's basically the same design, with all the same parts. Coincidentally, I've also finally got into Total Warhammer lately, and spent some time reacquainting myself with Warlords Battlecry, and in between building city walls and crushing stupid aryan elfs, I've realised what truly connects all three: balance. They all, correctly, reject it. |

It's good, though! I really like it, and as a huge Monster Hunter fan I'm pleased that there's finally a worthy alternative to Capcom's long-running series. Competition is good! |

TOHO Animation Studio and OLM will team up to release an anime adaptation of The Apothecary Diaries. The anime will come out some time in 2023. There is also a trailer for the show, which shows off the animation and basic premise of the show. The Apothecary Diaries is a light novel series that started in 2011, and J-Novel Club has the license for it in North America. So far, the only cast member we know for The Apothecary Diaries is Aoi Yuki. She voices the main character Maomao. Aoi has previously voiced Ten in Urusei Yatsura, Lumine in Genshin Impact, and Futaba in Persona 5. Spy enthusiasts will be able to buy food items based on Spy x Family at USJ as part of the theme park's collaboration with the popular anime and manga series. The Spy x Family collaboration is ongoing alongside the Detective Conan one. Both of them will run from February 17 to July 2, 2023. [Thanks, Game Watch!] There are several Spy x Family food items that you will be able to enjoy. You can eat them either at a restaurant or as you walk around the park. The USJ website does not list the prices for any of the items. However, the menu is:

Being a Toukiden and Monster Hunter-like, it will be possible to play Wild Hearts with other people. To help folks prepare, Koei Tecmo already offered some insight into the process. To be more specific, it shared a step-by-step video showing how to play Wild Hearts multiplayer with friends. Here's the tweet going through how to play Wild Hearts multiplayer with friends. It begins with a person warming themselves by the campfire. Once there, the person must select the play online option. Once you're in that menu, you can choose to search for available sessions or create one. If you create a session, you can set party tags, choose if you want it to be open to people with the same or different languages, note a search target, and set a password. Once you do all that, you can select the "create" option. At that point, it opens up the session to others, friends can join you, and you can all set off to face Kemono.

The English language voice actors for Wild Hearts have been revealed. The new monster hunting game from Koei Tecmo's Omega Force team and published by EA Originals is releasing soon, and the cast has now been officially confirmed by the voice of Ujishige, Yuki Matsuzaki. More details on some of these characters were recently revealed in the official story trailer for the game. That released earlier in February 2023. Episode 4 of the NieR Automata anime adaptation is finally about to appear. Crunchyroll announced people can tune in to watch it on February 18, 2023. It will appear at 9:30am PT/12:30pm PT/6:30pm CET. Following that, new episodes will follow every Saturday as usual. As a reminder, the NieR Automata anime went on hiatus after episode 3 aired. It's been on break since January 2023. This was due to production complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. At the moment, three episodes of NieR Automata Ver1.1a are available. There's no English dub as of yet. However, Japanese, Latin American Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese audio options are available. This isn't a direct retelling of the game's story. For example, Lily plays a part in this entry's storyline. Here is the most recent trailer teasing events in the series. It focuses on 2B and 9S. However, other characters like Devola and Popola both make appearances in the video. It also hints at some events still to come in later episodes of the show. Nintendo confirmed the start date and details of the new season of Splatoon 3, which is Fresh Season 2023. It will begin on March 1, 2023, bringing with it new gear and the return of a fan favorite special weapon from a past game. Fresh Season marks Splatoon 3's third season since its launch, following Drizzle Season, which ran from September to November 2022. Chill Season, which is the current season, began in December 2022. People can now test out the latest Yakuza game, Like a Dragon: Ishin, with a Combat Demo. Sega announced it will appear on various storefronts on February 16, 2023. However, this is a self-contained and isolated trial. This means there will be no opportunities to carry over save data. There are also chances to get free DLC weapons by subscribing to the Sega newsletter. The goal of this Like a Dragon: Ishin Combat Demo is to show off the different fighting styles Ryoma Sakamoto can use in the full game. It will feature two locations, one of them being Kiyomizu Temple, and different sorts of opponents. Sega also noted it would probably take about 20 minutes to see every element in its fights. As for the two weapons, it showed off what they are and look like. Both the Bonechewer Katana and the Waterdrop Katana are optional swords for Ryoma. As long as someone signs up for the newsletter before March 20, 2023, they can get those add-ons. Like a Dragon: Ishin early access begins for digital deluxe owners on February 17, 2023, the game will head to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on February 21, 2023, and the Combat Demo will appear on February 16, 2023. In the latest Game Informer rapid-fire interview, Resident Evil 4 Remake Producer Yoshiaki Kirabayoshi and Director Yasuhiro Ampo discussed various serious and silly elements related to the game. The chainsaw (and Chainsaw Man) came up a few times. As part of that, Kirabayoshi noted there was a desire to revisit the peripheral released alongside the original game and said, "We wanted to do one." HoYoVerse offered some details on things that will change in the 3.5 Genshin Impact update ahead of its release, and it seems a lot will be happening in the Serenitea Pot. After the update, it will be easier to get around it. People will also apparently have an easier time of creating Replicas in the future. There is also news about the Festive Drum and Genius Invokation TCG. First, there are two Serenitea Pot Genshin Impact changes. The headliner for the whole announcement is that the Mansion itself will essentially become a Waypoint. When you're in overworld map for this area, you can select your home to directly teleport to it. That is a confirmed 3.5 addition. The Serenitea Pot Genshin Impact Replica system adjustments aren't confirmed for 3.5, though. The developer notes people said they missed chances to create Replicas, because the ID was gone by the time they accumulated the parts. There's no exact solution yet, but HoYoVerse promised one. As for the other two 3.5 additions, those are the Arataki's Great and Glorious Drum event Festival Drum gadget and Genius Invokation TCG mode. With the former, Netsuke no Gen Crafts will sell it in-game after 3.5. The Noragami manga run will end at Volume 27, which will appear in bookstores in Japan in 2023. Currently, the manga is still running in Monthly Shonen Magazine. However, the manga will likely end its serialization some time within the year as well if the last volume will be at the end of it. [Thanks, Manga Mogura RE!] Noragami started in late 2010, around thirteen years ago now. Bones (of My Hero Academia fame) adapted it for TV in 2014, and it ran for 12 episodes (with 2 OVAs). A sequel, Noragami: Aragoto, ran in late 2015. Around when the first season came out, the Noragami manga was exceedingly popular in Japan. It was the fourteenth best-selling manga in 2014, placing between Terra Formars and Bleach. It follows the story of Hiyori Iki, who is a middle school girl who gets the ability to slip her soul out of her body following a traffic accident. This allows her to see the Near Shore (our world) and the Far Shore (where phantoms and souls reside). She also meets the nameless god Yato as a result of this power. In order to make a name for himself, Yato takes on any request for only 5 yen. Along with his sword Yukine, the three of them go on adventures, as well as deal with their respective pasts and traumas. Noragami is available for streaming on Crunchyroll, and Kodansha is in charge of the English release. The final volume of Noragami, Volume 27, will appear in bookstores at the end of 2023 in Japan. Wild Hearts will look familiar to a certain class of player: the one that's spent hours upon hours hunting the great beasts of the Monster Hunter series. And then, your character turns a little whirlygig strapped to their arm and manifests a crate out of thin air. That's when Wild Hearts looks familiar to a different class of player: the ones who remember to thank the Battle Bus driver. EA and Omega Force have banked on the idea of spicing up the the well-worn paths of the monster-hunting genre with a spot of on-the-spot construction reminiscent of Fortnite. The good news is that their gamble has paid off, at least in my estimation. Wild Hearts is set in Azuma, a tucked-away corner of a fantasy world inspired by feudal Japan. Far away from the samurai warlords that battle for dominance, the people of Azuma are losing their fight against a much more ancient foe. The Kemono, massive animals brimming with elemental power, moved in, driving the humans back to the remaining fortified settlement of Minato. It's into this desperate situation that your character, a Kemono hunter of mysterious lineage, walks. Gaining the power to manipulate Karakuri, a lost technology, you set out to aid Minato and its people by driving the Kemono back into quiescence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_grFGQ2oWUQ The game has a surprisingly involved story mode, with numerous dialog sequences and a fairly involved sense of community in Minato. Players on the hunt for Kemono can even gather up smaller beasts to bring into the city as pets. The pets even serve a purpose by regularly furnishing you with small amounts of resources, making them more than a mere cosmetic consideration. You'll also meet multiple NPCs, each with their own sense of character and some involvement in the overarching narrative. Wild Hearts won't be pulling a dedicated JRPG off the storytelling throne, but it's nice to be given more context for your actions than simply hunting monsters for its own sake. The additional story is also helpful, as the setting of Azuma presents itself in a novel way compared to its peers. Where the Kemono of Wild Hearts use their elemental fury to change the landscape around them, you do so with the power of the Karakuri. During a hunt, your "basic" Karakuri, like crates and springs, function like gadgets and usually don't last past a given fight. (However, they will litter your battlefields as you carry out more hunts.) However, your Dragon Karakuri, unlocked through an upgrade tree and by activating "Dragon Pits" scattered throughout the map, function like permanent additions of infrastructure. You'll use Hunting Towers to locate points of interest and Kemono hangout spots. Flying Vine launchers add convenient zip lines you can use to bypass terrain challenges. Wind Vortexes produce updrafts that you can ride with a special glider to travel even farther. All this building you can do outside your hunts underlines one of the concepts of Wild Hearts, which involves "taming" an untamed land.
Even the Kemono themselves reflect this sense of unbridled, primal power. Most of the Kemono designs are drawn from a design sensibility that boils down to "take a regular animal, make it huge, then fuse it with the environment." The Ragetail, your first hunting target, looks for all the world like a massive rat that's slowly being consumed by a monstrous flower garden. Flowers grow from its eye socket, while its tail drags around a massive seed pod. When enraged, the Ragetail blooms with anger, scattering petals and becoming even more dangerous. The ape-like Lavaback spouts molten rock from formations on its hide, and its apoplexy feels like a volcano erupting. In other words, hunting down the Kemono feels going up against the forces of nature itself. Thankfully, you've got humankind's most distinctive skill on your side: Advanced Tool use. The Karakuri gadgets you can manifest from thin air bear the distinctive aesthetic of wooden clockwork. This sensibility trickles into the eight weapon types you have at your disposal. Each plays in a different manner, but all the playstyles and gimmicks emphasize a sense of transformation and complexity. Even a weapon as simple as a massive hammer works with a series of tricks that allow a hunter to extend its reach and add impact to its swings. Monster Hunter veterans will likely see parallels to some of their favorites in the various Wild Hearts weapons. The hand cannon, with its slow movement and emphasis on heat management, comes across like the heavy bowgun, while the parry-centric play style of the Bladed Wagasa (essentially a clockwork umbrella) is a dead ringer for the Long Sword. The shifting form of the Karakuri Staff reminds me of my beloved Charge Blade, with its emphasis of dishing out big combo-ending hits with a massive blade. The most unique weapon in the arsenal is the Claw Blade, which combines a short-range dagger-like sword with a tether that allows extensive aerial maneuvering that combines the flashiest aspects of the Dual Blades and Insect Glaive.
Overall, the weapons in Wild Hearts don't quite feel as deep or precise in their tuning as in Monster Hunter. This both good and bad. To me, it's good, because there's less pressure to practice and master the move set. For the most part, learning a weapon in Wild Hearts is about equipping it, taking a few swings at a training bear to remember the buttons, and then going out and whaling on a Kemono until muscle memory sets in. Flashy attacks are relatively easy to access, and you don't have to worry about some of the fiddlier upkeep, like sharpening. The flipside of this streamlining is that there's also less motivation to spend time learning your weapon's intricacies. Some of that missing complexity has instead been moved into the Karakuri system. In addition to the basic items and Dragon Karakuri, Fusion Karakuri need to be unlocked by seeing "inspiration" in various hunts. Once unlocked, Fusion Karakuri become useful gadgets, like being able to summon a wall to blunt a Kemono's charge. The additional complexity of building a Fusion Karakuri (it needs to be assembled by placing basic Karakuri in a specific pattern) adds some welcome dimensions to what would otherwise be a rote combat experience. In its way, Wild Hearts has moved some of the skill ceiling Monster Hunter fans enjoy out of mastering one's gear and into mastering the environment (by effectively placing Karakuri to maximize the effects of your weapon). I can't say for sure whether that shift in design philosophy will give Wild Hearts the same enduring appeal as its closest competitor. But in the moment, at least, Omega Force crafted a worthy and entertaining alternative that forges a distinct identity of its own.
