A game comes out, is played for years, another follows, repeat until the heat death of the universe. But it has actually been a very long time since the last game! |

Karaoke isn't the only rhythm game in the Yakuza spin-off Like a Dragon: Ishin, as Ryoma can also take part in Buyo dancing. However, it isn't immediately available. It's only after he gets to Kyo and you start exploring the northern district in the city and complete a substory called "Nichibuza's Newest Fan" that you can start "taking classes" and performing.

An enduring Yakuza minigame is the karaoke rhythm game, and even Ryoma Sakamoto in Like a Dragon: Ishin can take part. However, you can't immediately send him to a bar to sing his heart out. You'll need to play the game a bit and wait until he's established in Kyo. Once he is, then you can head to Utamaruya in Fushimi to perform. And yes, once you get there you will find the Yakuza/Like a Dragon classic "Baka Mitai" in Like a Dragon: Ishin.
One of the easiest times to head to Utamaruya and take part in the karaoke minigame is around chapter four in Like a Dragon: Ishin. It's right off the main street, before you head north to the next district. Once inside, it will cost you 500 mon to perform. Here is the list of karaoke songs available at Utamaruya in Like a Dragon: Ishin. You "perform" by pressing the action buttons. Also, Ryoma can bring someone along to accompany him.
Performing builds your relationship with the owner of Utamaruya, and it also earns Ryoma Virtue. Performing a single song can earn you about 20 Virtue. There are many different sorts of Substories side quests in Like a Dragon: Ishin, with ones like "It's a Long Story" requiring people to pay attention. This is due to the NPC "testing" Ryoma Sakamoto's listening skills. While the gossip and stories Sakiko shares don't really take that long, they do involve quite a few details that might be easy to forget. Especially as some of the responses during the quiz might sound similar to things that came up during the chat.
How Do You Start the "It's a Long Story" Substory in Like a Dragon: Ishin?You can meet Sakiko in Like a Dragon: Ishin Chapter 3: Mibu Wolves. If you head to the South Yashikimachi area in Fushimi, near shrine, you'll automatically overhear her talking to someone sho says she talks too much. This starts the Substory, which consists of a very long conversation.
What are the "It's a Long Story" Substory Answers in Like a Dragon: Ishin?There are three things you need to know to pass Sakiko's challenge. The first of the three Like a Dragon: Ishin "It's a Long Story" answers has to do with how her tastes changed when she grew up. The correct response is that she started to like bamboo shoots. The second question has to do with her reuniting with childhood friend named Kotaro. She asks where she met him again when they were adults. They ran into each other outside a tea shop. Finally, the third one is basically a trick question. Sakiko asks what her name is. When she does, the dialogue box changes her name to "Garrulous Woman" to try and trip the player up. However, if you've been paying attention (and reading this), you'll know her name is Sakiko. Once you successfully answer Sakiko's three questions, she gives Ryoma a Gold Seal for his time. Virtue is a valuable commodity in Like a Dragon: Ishin, and it's something you need to earn in order to really make the most of some additional endeavors. Fortunately, it also is incredibly easy to accrue in-game. Once Ryoma Sakamoto finds himself in Kyo, basically everything he does starts earning him these "brownie points." You can then spend those points to help with endeavors like farming, decorating your second home, and engaging in activities around Kyo. So if you're just getting started, here's what you need to know.
How to Earn Virtue in Like a Dragon: IshinOnce you get to Kyo and start walking around town for the first time, you'll automatically run into a Shinto Priest as part of a scripted encounter and tutorial. He'll introduce you to the Virtue system, which you can access from both shrines and temples in Like a Dragon: Ishin. After this initial conversation, you'll get 50 Virtue for your time and learn more about how to take advantage of it in the future. You'll also see how the temple icons look on the map (they are in blue and look like temples). Also, once you unlock your second home in Chapter 4, you'll be able to access a shrine on the property. As for finding a way to earn Virtue in Like a Dragon: Ishin, basically every supplemental action you perform gets you small amounts of it. Did you take part in a fight in town and beat up bad guys? Virtue! Did you stop to eat a meal at a restaurant? How virtuous! Did you participate in Substories? There's some virtue for you! What about some shopping? Well, aren't you a virtuoso? Did you visit your second home to farm, cook, or trade? You'll get Virtue for that as well. It's constantly accruing. Which is good, because some of the most valuable and helpful unlocks cost thousands of Virtue.
Which Like a Dragon: Ishin Virtue Unlocks Should You Prioritize?I'd say a big part of this comes down to what you want to do in Like a Dragon: Ishin. The unlock categories are Second Home, Farm, Fishing, Functions, Virtue, and Other. Each one tends to be tied to certain activities. I think Virtue Cultivation is one of the most valuable options. At the very least, I'd suggest getting the level one unlock. It's 1,500 Virtue, which is a lot. However, it increases the amount of Virtue you get for additional tasks, which can help a lot. If you're having trouble with fighting and getting by, I'd also recommend picking up some of the Inventory Capacity increases These start at 700 Virtue for the first one. It's self explanatory, really. You can hold more. Spots where you can adjust your inventory, like shrines and rooms, are pretty plentiful though, so I'd understand wanting to save up. Also, if you want to farm, save up a lot of Virtue for it! You'll need it to increase the size of your farm, its level, and the range of crops you can grow. It's probably the area that could take away most of your Virtue, so be ready to take part in a lot of optional timesinks if you want to focus on agrarian activities. In Like a Dragon: Ishin, the substories side quests are introduced in chapter two after Ryoma Sakamoto comes to Kyo via number 47: Ee Ja Nai Ka. Not long after visiting the shrine for the first time and learning about Virtue, he'll happen upon a group of people blocking the road in the northwest corner of Fushimi. However, this is one of a series of substories all involving the form of social protest being used in both correct and incorrect ways.
Substories #47: Ee Ja Nai Ka in Like a Dragon: IshinThis one is fairly simple. Heading north from the first shrine in Like a Dragon: Ishin, you'll see an unavoidable crowd outside of Yashikimachi in northwest Fushimi. Walking up to them will cause Ryoma to interact with them. You'll then need to fight a particularly disrespectful member of the group.
Substories #22: Ee Ja Not Ka in Like a Dragon: IshinThis one you can happen upon in chapter four of Like a Dragon: Ishin, provided you completed the previous quest. Head to the northeast from the Blacksmith in Rakugai. (It triggered for me after finishing The Spitfire Debt Collector.) Head right down the sidestreets toward the bar, and Ryoma will start hearing "Ee ja nai ka" again. When you walk toward that direction, you'll see an old woman on the ground who was knocked out of the way by the dancers. You'll then take part in a fight against the dancers who knocked her down. This will end that substory.
Substories #7: Ee Ja Nai for Justice in Like a Dragon: IshinAfter you completed substory 22, you can take part in Ee Ja Nai for Justice. This sees Ryoma happening upon a group of dancers protesting a corrupt official. It's on Shinmeicho street in Rakunai, again near the Blacksmith. After the politician tells his guards to attack the crowd, Ryoma steps in. Defeating the battle ends the quest. Like a Dragon: Ishin is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
