Picking the perfect PC controller isn't as easy as it once was, but the PowerA Moga XP-Ultra Wireless Controller is an attempt to solve a very modern problem.

Back in the day, you might have two different gaming systems – usually a PC and a console. Microsoft made this one easy to solve, as the best Xbox controllers are cross-compatible with PCs. But what about a pad that also works with the cloud? Your phone? Your smart TV?

The PowerA Moga XP-Ultra Wireless Controller promises to be the one best PC controller pad to rule them all. In theory, you can start playing on your console, go from the couch to the cloud by picking up on your phone, then get to someone else's house and resume playing on a PC or even a compatible smart TV.

It's a controller built for all eventualities, then – something that is echoed by its modular design. The pad includes an attachable phone mount, turning your handset into a handheld, and it also features detachable grips, reducing the footprint for playing on the go or giving you an option if you prefer the size of old-school controllers.

But what really struck me about the new DLC was how it had morphed the overall combat into a chunkier, more flavoursome affair. Whereas before your guns had about as much impact as the buzz of your phone in silent mode, they now feel like they've got some real weight behind each trigger pull. Starfield Details

A massive Starfield appeared at the end of the Xbox Games Showcase 2023. In an hour-long presentation, Bethesda Studios offered insight into the different gameplay systems within the highly anticipated RPG. In addition, Microsoft revealed a new story trailer for Starfield within the Xbox Games Showcase itself.

Since Starfield is based heavily around space exploration, there's a huge emphasis on different planets and ships. Ships can be used not only to travel to different planets, but can also be used in dogfights and to board other ships, for piracy or more legal purposes. Planets will be split between procedurally generated wild planets and custom populated planets. There will be a vast cast of characters across multiple factions, including space cowboys, and the settlement of New Atlantis which is home to a group called Constellation. Bethesda claimed that New Atlantis is the biggest city they've ever built.

Customisation will be a huge part of Starfield. Bethesda showed off that ships can be customised, outposts can be built on wild planets and weapons can be modded to suit your playstyle. As with other Bethesda games, there will also be character creation, with 40 presets available that can then be adjusted as you see fit. Combat will also play a huge part, and gravity will affect your abilities during fights. A new skill system will be based around skill points to unlock abilities, and special challenges to rank these abilities up. Naturally, these challenges will increase in difficulty as you progress up the ranks.

The full presentation can be viewed here.

What's the Best Nintendo Switch Online Game

The Nintendo Switch Online game library for subscribers grew into a pretty stable "best of" collection. Lots of hits are there, and occasionally we even see a more niche title. We also hit the point where Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles are there to play as well. Since there's so much to go through we decided it'd be a great time to recommend some Nintendo Switch Online games we like best.

Okay, so, my pick is a game that isn't a part of the US Nintendo Switch Online game library. I'm so glad Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is there. It's part of the Super Famicom app in the Japanese eShop, and it's wonderful that this title is so easily accessible via the service. The only thing better is if Nintendo would do with it what it did with Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. That is, localize and release it digitally… but hopefully not for a limited time this time. — Jenni

In our age of wide emulation availability, the best part of Nintendo Switch Online's retro apps is its easy online play. Given that, the best NSO games are fun ones that are also tough or impractical to play otherwise! My pick: Mario Kart: Super Circuit, an underappreciated entry in the world's favorite franchise. It has the classic setup of the SNES original that just feels different from polygonal entries, and a ton of tracks to race. Most importantly, try as I might to change the whims of society, people just don't carry around GBAs and link cables anymore. So this is a great way to play it, and also basically the only way.

On a similar note, don't sleep on Kirby and the Amazing Mirror when that already-announced GBA game finally gets added. — Graham

I am tempted to say Phantasy Star IV, but since the game is also available through the SEGA Genesis Classics, my pick will go to a game that is available only through NSO: Wario Land 3. For a 23 year old portable game, Wario Land 3 sure feels modern and refreshing. The day and night cycle of each stage, all the different objectives, that game is a pure source of joy and dopamine. However, my answer will probably change (again,) once Nintendo drops Golden Sun and the two The Legend of Zelda Oracle games. — Daniel

One of the great things about the NSO library is its ability to bring over a bunch of import games that never originally released overseas. Since I'm in the UK, I'm very familiar with missing out on a bunch of these older games! For me, the poster child for this is EarthBound. In the SNES days, all the way up to the Wii U, it was a mythical game that we only knew about through Smash Bros. Now you can casually find it in a retro library on the Switch. As it should be, because EarthBound is a brilliant RPG full of charm and humor that we deserved to have 20 years earlier. Plus, with the Wii U eShop gone, this is now the only official way to play it in Europe, making it even more essential. Now we just need Mother 3 added to the GBA library and all will be right with the world. — Leigh

Jusant Reveal

A new game from Life is Strange developers Dontnod was revealed at the Xbox Showcase 2023. Named Jusant, it stars a young boy and his tiny animal friend traversing a mountain. According to a follow-up tweet from Dontnod themselves, it's designed to offer "meditative vibes".

Here's the first trailer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfsNMOMLZoI&ab_channel=Xbox

Jusant appears to be a game heavily focused on exploration and climbing mechanics, with much of the trailer focused on the boy climbing cliff faces and ladders. There is also a brief glimpse of a plant growth mechanic, with the boy riding a growing stem up a wall. It also appears that the boy can interact with his animal friend when they're not climbing. Hellblade 2 Trailer

A new trailer for Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 ended up revealed at the Xbox Showcase 2023. This trailer focuses on Senua herself, as she continues to battle with the voices that were present in the first Hellblade. Ninja Theory and Microsoft also confirmed a 2024 release for the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRqLDCBxW04&ab_channel=Xbox

The new trailer sees Senua enter a strange cave containing strange patterns and a dark voice similar to the first game's Shadow. It suggests that the themes of psychosis that were present in the first game will continue in the sequel. Very little gameplay was shown off, instead focusing entirely on this single scene. However, gameplay for Hellblade 2 has been seen in previous announcements, including plenty of behind the scenes info from Ninja Theory.

Fortunately, Ninja Theory treated fans to a new Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase that revealed a 2024 release window for the title.
