While Mimimi's previous games took place in mostly grounded historical settings, Shadow Gambit is about magical undead pirates hunting for mysterious booty and fighting a persecutive Inquisition. This shift into the supernatural is quite the change for Mimimi, which creative director Dominik Abé tells me was partly to challenge themselves as designers, but also so players could have a bit more fun with how they approached its plentiful stealth encounters. "One thing we wanted for sure was that we had something that's not grounded in a realistic setting," Abé tells me. "That was a requirement for all the pitches we did internally, and that's because we wanted to improve on the gameplay. We were restricted by realism, so that was a core pillar. It had to be something fantasy, or sci-fi or something non-realistic." |

Pre-orders for a new Prime 1 Studio figure of Yennefer of Vengerberg from The Witcher 3 are now open from the company's website. The figure is part of the Museum Masterline series of figures, and it is available in a regular edition that costs $1,299, and a Deluxe Bonus version that costs $1,399. The figure will release between September 2024 and December 2024. The figure weighs 19kg or roughly 42lbs, and the scale of the statue is 1/3, or roughly 84 cm or 32.6 inches tall. The figure includes swappable left and right arm parts. The right arm options allow Yennefer to hold one of the two crows that accompany her, and the left one offers an idle arm pose. The English and Traditional Chinese servers for Touken Ranbu Online will close and service will end on August 21, 2023. The Japanese servers will remain available, so Saniwa with accounts on there can continue to save history with their sword boys. Johren has not offered an explanation as to why Touken Ranbu will be shutdown. [Thanks, KaroshiMyriad!] Johren is the official platform for the English and Traditional Chinese releases of Touken Ranbu. It's possible that the game is not making enough money for the company to justify its continued existence on its servers. Though Touken Ranbu is free to play, there are microtransactions available for things like extra slots at the smithy. With Johren removing it, those of us who want to continue playing Touken Ranbu will have to move to the Japanese server. However, that would mean starting over. Touken Ranbu is a free-to-play collectible card and idle game that Nitroplus and DMM Games launched in 2015. The worldwide release came out in 2021. There are multiple anime and musical adaptations of the overall conceit. In it, you are the Saniwa, who is able to send sword boys (Touken Danshi) to the past. There, they defend history against evil forces that threaten to alter it. The sword boys are all anthropomorphized versions of famous or legendary katana in history. Back on August 27, 2013, Final Fantasy XIV launched on the PS3 and PC. Now ahead of August 27, 2023, Square Enix started celebrating its birthday. The Final Fantasy XIV 10th anniversary site is now open. It isn't completely populated with upcoming events, merchandise, in-game events, and announcements yet. However, it is already teasing some upcoming ones. Going to the Final Fantasy XIV 10th anniversary site allows you to see all announcements or filter them by Campaign, Collaboration, Contest, Event, In-game, Merchandise, Other, Sale, or Special categories. It brought up how the anniversary fan art contest already appeared in April 2023, but that the 10th anniversary frames and stickers for group pose will appear in 6.45, The Rising seasonal event is coming on August 27, 2023, and the hairstyle design contest 2023 is coming in the future. Good Smile Company will release a Nendoroid of Anya Forger from Spy x Family in her Winter Clothes. This is what she wears in the latter half of Season 2, when the weather gets colder. There will also be a bunch of expression plates (sold separately) so you can customize your own Anya. Pre-orders for both the Anya Nendoroid and the Anya face plates are open until August 10, 2023. The Anya Nendoroid costs 6500 JPY and will come out in January 2024. She'll cost $44.99 for those in North America and will ship out in Q1 2024. As for the face plates, you get a set of eight for 850 JPY and will ship out in December 2023. They're $47.92 for those in North America (with a release window of Q1 2024). This is due to the latter being sold in a full box of eight. The Anya (Winter Clothes Version) Nendoroid will come with three face plates by default. You can get a smiling face, an enamored face, or a crying face. Optional goods include dog food, as well as others. It's unclear what they are though, since the Good Smile Company website does not have any pictures of them. In an official post on the Skullgirls forum, Director Charley "MightyZug" Price announced that Hidden Variable Games will implement some visual changes to its art assets. It will remove any allusions to real-world hate groups, as well as change instances of sexually predatory behavior and racial stereotypes. The full announcement, as well as detailed lists of changes, are available on the forums. These changes will affect character designs and existing art. For example, it will change the designs for the Black Egrets. The designs of the red armbands and flags were far too similar to hate groups that are still active in real-life. So the armbands and heraldry for the Black Egrets will look different in-game, in concept art, and in story mode. As for the changes to existing art, Hidden Variable Games will remove instances where the Skullgirls characters look forcefully fetishized. From a narrative standpoint, some characters are out and proud about their various assets or sexuality. But for younger characters like Filia, this can look like unwanted predatory behavior. Though the story will not change, the art will look less exploitative. The devs will also remove or adjust content such as Big Band's Story Mode for racial references it believes are in poor taste. During a shareholder meeting, Nintendo discussed its plans in regards to next-gen consoles and how it plans to migrate users over. Nintendo did not give any concrete information on the specs or what users can expect. But it plans on using Nintendo Accounts to facilitate the move. The full Q&A is available on Nintendo's website. [Thanks, Game Watch!] To start with, CEO Shuntaro Furukawa explained that hardware used to be the only way for the company to connect with its player base. So upgrading hardware required them to rebuild the relationship with users. But now, there are so many people with Nintendo Accounts that they can use over multiple Nintendo consoles. Upgrading from the Switch to the next-gen will make heavy use of the online Nintendo Account. In another question, someone asked if Nintendo plans on making Switch titles transferable to the new console. Not being able to do so from the Wii U to the Switch was a point of frustration. However, Furukawa did not directly answer this question. He instead noted that it will still sell consoles that can play hard-copy games rather than shift entirely to digital. The response also implied that the next generation Nintendo console will be far off in the future, since games like Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold so well. It wants players to continue enjoying the current selection of games through DLC and such. The Nintendo Switch is a highly popular console. A new web event for Honkai: Star Rail called "The Way of the Stomach" is now live. You can access it via Twitter, as well as through the in-game Special Event tab (from the smartphone). You can feed characters on the Luofu for Stellar Jades and Refined Aethers. The story for the event starts with March 7th suggesting that they open up an eatery on the Xianzhou Luofu and sell Cosmic Fried Rice. You can make and sell more than that as well. The more customers you feed, the more rewards you can get. You can make more customers drop by Express Eatery through daily quests such as logging in or visiting HoYoLab's social hub. There is a set limit of customers per day though. This web event also serves to promote Luocha and Yukong, who are two of the customers who drop by. The two of them will appear in-game on June 28, 2023 as Imaginary characters. Luocha is a 5-star Imaginary Abundance character, whereas Yukong is a 4-star Imaginary Harmony unit. Though they appeared in the Version 1.0 story quest, they will not make their playable debut until the latter half of Version 1.1. Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on mobile devices and Windows PC. The PS5 version is in development. You'll eventually come here as a part of the Regional Phenomena questline where you help Riju save the area from an invasion of Gibdos.
