PCGamesN Thursday, July 20, 2023 12:24 PM What are the best team comps in the League of Legends Arena mode? Arena is a 2v2v2v2 competition, pitting four teams of two champions against each other in increasingly deadly rounds until only one remains. It's all-action, and frankly, a ton of fun, but it can be extremely tough if you don't know what team compositions work well, as what works on the Rift doesn't necessarily work in the Arena. The free PC game doesn't add new game modes very often, and what they did have (Twisted Treeline) was removed a long time ago to consolidate the playlists. Arena mode, however, has gained huge support while on the PBE, with peons like us, creators, and even pros testing their combat prowess in League of Legends' frenetic new mode. If you plan on stepping into the Arena, you're going to want to know what kind of team composition works best, as choosing ineffectual champions will mean an early exit for you and your partner. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 20, 2023 1:00 PM The Wandering Village already had a great pitch: it's a citybuilder where you rustle up your village on the back of a massive, lumbering rock-turtle-dragon creature. That pitch is getting even stronger with today's update, as our giant friend (Onbu) is taking the village on his back (the human headlice) into the ocean. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 20, 2023 11:36 AM The GameCube and Wii emulator Dolphin will no longer come to Steam. Back in March, it was announced that the long-running emulator would get a surprise release on the storefront, but that was soon "indefinitely postponed" due to legal troubles with Nintendo and Valve. Now the team have cleared up the situation and are "abandoning" their efforts completely. "First things first - Nintendo did not send Valve or Dolphin a [DMCA Takedown] notice against our Steam page," the team clarified in a recent blog post, before adding that "Nintendo has not taken any legal action against Dolphin Emulator or Valve." What actually happened was a legal back and forth. Valve's legal department had contacted Nintendo regarding the emulator's Steam release. A lawyer representing Nintendo asked Valve to prevent it. And then Valve forwarded that statement to the Dolphin team, "and told us that we had to come to an agreement with Nintendo in order to release it on Steam." |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 20, 2023 11:15 AM It is a truth universally acknowledged that when aliens threaten to exterminate your home, only the world's most insufferable, unhinged scientists can help you save the day. XCOM knows it, and now Xenonauts 2 is following suit. Case in point, yer man up the top there. Look at that smug mullet and his unimpressed raised eyebrow. He doesn't give two hoots you're here to save the world from extinction, leading (probably several) teams of nine (unwitting) brave souls into the unknown (i.e.: repeated death by alien overwatch). He's got research to do. Organs to pickle. Dead alien carcasses to splice. Yeah, the same ones you literally strapped into your troops' tactical belts in the last mission so you could bring them home. We had stinking brain monsters wrapped round our torsos, guy! The least you can do is deign to make us a nice cuppa when we get back. Honestly. You can't get the staff these days... |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 20, 2023 11:00 AM I thought Exoprimal somehow managed to make dinosaurs versus mechs, aka the coolest concept ever, boring in my review-in-progress. I held out hope it would improve, though, as lots of commenters assured me it's fun side would finally surface. "Just play several more hours and things really open up! Variety in the dinos, in the modes, in just about everything!". To some extent, they were right. There are fun moments to be had as you queue up for Dino Survival and suddenly, remarkably, things have changed a bit. But the game doesn't respect your time. It forces you to sit through hours of repetitive dino-slaying and then only offers you the chance, the chance to slay dinos in a way that isn't excruciatingly samey. Even as someone who finds the fun in mindless carnage, I'd much rather ditch my mech suit and let the dinosaurs run rampant. The dinosaurs don't deserve this. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 20, 2023 10:00 AM Might & Magic: Clash Of Heroes was one of those Nintendo DS games that I never played at the time but had always heard was very good. Its unusual triple-decker sandwich of strategic, match-three RPG puzzling hasn't really been replicated in the fifteen-odd years since it first came out, unless you count its own HD remaster that came out in 2011. Alas, with that version now having gone off sale on PC in favour of this further spruced up Definitive Edition, this is now the best and only way to play it. Originally developed by the same core team at Capybara Games that went on to make the excellent Grindstone, this Definitive Edition has been handled entirely by remake house Dotemu, and yep, I now see what all the fuss is about. However, I also have quite a lot of reservations about it. For all its clear, obvious brilliance, it's also a very hard game to love. Because it really is very hard, and I still can't quite decide if I'm having fun or not. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 20, 2023 10:00 AM Remnant II has a lot of moments that will make you say things not appropriate for children's ears. Then again, given the mild horror themes in many of the levels and the general terror the excellent enemy design invokes, you probably shouldn't be playing it around kids in the first place. As a fan of this sequel's predecessor, Remnant: From The Ashes, I had my hopes set unreasonably high, and not only has Remnant II completely met my expectations, but it also kept messing around with what I thought I should be expecting. It left me in a constant state of awe. This is a furiously ambitious follow-up and has everything I could have ever wanted. |

Siliconera Thursday, July 20, 2023 1:40 PM Back when XSEED and Marvelous first brought up Rune Factory 3 Special, they shared bachelorette profiles for the characters we can romance. Now, there's an entirely new trailer looking even more closely at the 11 women we can marry and date. It's quite a lengthy one, spending almost 4 minutes on the different returning love interests in Rune Factory 3. The video begins with Shara. She's the Rune Factory 3 Special bachelorette you first meet when you start the game. It then shows a scene with her and Micah. After that, Raven appears. We get to see one of their first meetings. Marian is the next Rune Factory 3 Special love interest to appear. She demands Micah come to her if he's feeling unwell. For Collette's segment, she issues an eating contest challenge to Micah. With the Carmen part, she discusses what's so great about fishing with Micah. After that, we get to see the Rune Factory 3 Special character Pia talk about working at the bathhouse. Daria shows up next, and she explains how talented she is to Micah upon meeting him. Sakuya shows up after that and is all business as she tries to convince Micah to shop at the store. The Sofia segment shows her unique trait to say the opposite of what she means. As for the Karina part, she acts a little aloof when talking about the general store and her job. Finally, the Kuruna segment is the only time we see Micah talk to one of the Rune Factory 3 Special bachelorettes in his Wooly form. Rune Factory 3 Special will come to the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam outside Japan on September 5, 2023. It showed up on the Switch in Japan on March 2, 2023. The original Rune Factory 3 can be found on the Nintendo DS. The post Rune Factory 3 Special Bachelorettes Get Their Own Trailer appeared first on Siliconera. |

The trailer also shows off his new Rage Art, where he uses a summon circle to create a bow of pure energy to shoot through Bryan Fury. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xgj0KYypVw Claudio is the latest character confirmed for the Tekken 8 roster. Siliconera Thursday, July 20, 2023 11:30 AM New Persona 3 Reload footage came out on July 20, 2023 during BiliBili's "High Energy Game Fest" 2023 live stream. Today's trailer focuses on Akihiko, Mitsuru, and Fuuka, who will all become playable in the first quarter or so of the game. The trailer is around a minute long. Most of the BiliBili trailer actually uses a lot of footage from previous videos Atlus shared for the game, like the Anime Expo 2023 one. [Thanks, Persona Central!] You can watch the Persona 3 Reload Akihiko, Fuuka, and Mitsuru trailer on YouTube, via Persona Central's account: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLWPdAbILbE& The first part of it focuses on Fuuka, starting from when you find her in Tartarus and rescue her during the story. Then it shows a part of her Social Link. Afterwards, it shifts the attention to Mitsuru. Finally, it looks at Akihiko. It also shows some of Akihiko's moves in combat, complete with his Persona summoning and post-battle animation. A previous trailer for Persona 3 Reload off the English voice cast, as well as gameplay footage. Quite a few of the scenes from that trailer are in today's BiliBili trailer too. For example, we already saw footage of Fuuka's scenes from the story. Persona 3 Reload will be a remake of the original Persona 3 game, though it will feature elements such as QoL improvements from FES. In order to modernize Persona 3 for today's Persona players, Atlus will make certain mechanics like maxing out Social Links easier, as well as remove the fatigue system that was in the original. Persona 3 Reload will come out on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam some time in early 2024. Siliconera Thursday, July 20, 2023 11:00 AM Nintendo released the new update for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that adds compatibility for the new Pyra and Mythra amiibo and allows for both Aegis swords to be used as cosmetics. The Aegis swords can also be accessed without the figurines by completing certain steps after talking to a new NPC. Additionally, the update also adds some bug fixes for the Future Connected DLC expansion. The Pyra and Mythra amiibo add their respective Aegis swords to the Swordfighter class in the main Xenoblade Chronicles 3 game. To be able to equip the swords, players will need to access the Clothing menu on a character equipped with the Swordfighter class, then select the Attachments menu to change the appearance of the weapon. This can be done after scanning the figures or after completing a series of steps when talking to Miibomii, a new Nopon NPC located at the Llyn Nyddwr Camp in the Fornis region. Additionally, some of the bug fixes added to the Future Connected DLC expansion include increasing the percentage chance of re-aquiring Battle, Tactics, and Strategy Manuals from certain enemies, fixing an issue related to rematching the final battle of the DLC, and fixing a progression issue in Chapter 2 related to the "Pursue Glimmer" main quest. The Pyra and Mythra amiibo double-pack releases on July 21, 2023. Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are available for the Nintendo Switch. As a reminder, Noah and Mio amiibo are also in development. The post Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Update Adds Pyra and Mythra Swords appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Thursday, July 20, 2023 10:40 AM Bandai Namco shared a new Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon trailer focusing on the game's story. We already had some vague hints about what was going on based on its introductory videos. We also saw some gameplay. But now, there's a more defined sense of purpose, with the teaser even saying the events of the game will give 621 "a reason to exist." The actual details are a bit vague still in the Armored Core VI story trailer, with cinematics from the game appearing. We see some mechs heading to face Hounds, then being attacked. Someone's asking Handler Walter what 617 went through. Rather than Walter responding, we see footage of 617, then 619 and 620 also falling in battle. We also hear that our character is "functional," but that Walter "shouldn't expect much more." Walter instructs the person he's talking to to wake 621 up. We then hear Walter saying "621…I'll give you a reason to exist. Let's get to work." Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will come to the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC on August 25, 2023. There will be standard, collector's, and premium editions of the game available, with more expensive ones including a figure and docking station for it. Siliconera Thursday, July 20, 2023 10:00 AM Dotemu seemingly has great taste in older games. This is shown through its interest in titles like Windjammers and Streets of Rage. Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is similarly great! And similarly underappreciated, too. The game flew under the radar with its initial Nintendo DS release, too late in the year to get a lot of media attention. The "HD" versions on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC found a bit more love, but there are still many out there who would love what Clash of Heroes offers and just haven't discovered it. Ubisoft, conversely, has rarely made a good choice with the Might & Magic franchise since acquiring it from the wreckage of previous publisher 3DO two decades ago. Clash of Heroes is, inarguably, its best one. In the game, you play through a "campaign," which is largely a mostly-linear series of puzzle battles. It was clearly designed with the DS in mind, with each faction on its own screen aligning groups of the same color unit and launching them at opposing defenses. That said, the gameplay holds up just fine on other platforms. There's certainly a degree to which Clash of Heroes' gameplay fits in better with the Puzzle Quest era in which it was created than it does today. It's a victim of its own critical success, in a lot of ways! Its ideas have been much more thoroughly explored now by projects big and small. That said, it also means the wider games community is more ready for what it has to offer. It's a think-y, turn-based game, which makes sense with the Might & Magic world. The new portraits for Definitive Edition are 10% more anime and 30% less in harmony with the game's visual style. And we're not sure why they exist? If there's a behind-the-scenes reason for the new character portraits, we'd love to hear it. As it stands? It seems like a wasted effort. There wasn't a glaring issue with the previous portraits, and the new treatments change some of the characterization of the game's protagonists. In particular, Aidan and Anwen feel decidedly less... themselves. [caption id="attachment_973426" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption] Much of the messaging surrounding Definitive Edition's release focuses on its rebalanced approach to multiplayer. This aligns with Dotemu's similar approach to Windjammers, attempting to take a game with a cult competitive following and build a more robust community around it. In the pre-release period, our ability to test this part were limited. Still, players have had a long time to point out what needed fixing. Definitive Edition also packs in local co-op play. We loved that feature in the PlayStation 3 port, and it wasn't available in most releases. Returning to the game over a decade later, we had fun! But we could clearly see some of the game's rough edges. Most notably? The campaign's final chapter really phones it in. It pre-levels protagonist Nadia, throws units at you in batches and has nearly every battle take place on the spiral staircase of a tower. This was... fine, as a smart allocation of development resources for a small Nintendo DS project. But two remakes in? The game could really use a bit more time to learn and enjoy the Academy faction. While Definitive Edition definitely feels a bit redundant on PC, its PS4 and Switch iterations bring the game to new platforms. (Is the Xbox's backward compatibility part of the reason it isn't launching on Series X? It's possible.) It's nice to see the game back on a Nintendo platform. Clash of Heroes is the sort of game that fits nicely with contemplative handheld play! We'd say the same for Steam Deck, but we know from experience that the original release worked on it just fine. So if this is step one, with step two being using this work and availability to build a full sequel? That's great! And we've seen Dotemu take that exact path before, so there's reason to hope. But by itself, it's a peculiar project and doesn't offer much new for fans of the old games to play. We'd have loved to see a new element, like a remixed campaign, to entice fans to make a return trip. [caption id="attachment_973429" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption] Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes: Definitive Edition launches July 20, 2023 on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC. While Capybara Games developed the original game for original publisher Ubisoft, Dotemu handled both sets of duties for this new edition. Siliconera Thursday, July 20, 2023 9:00 AM The sixth Shonen Jump music video will feature "Silhouette" from Naruto. It will premiere on July 22, 2023 at 2:00 AM PT/4:00 AM CT. The thumbnail so far shows Kakashi and Obito during their battle against each other. It will likely focus on their relationship, much like how another Naruto trailer focused on Naruto and Sasuke. For Kakashi and Obito, it'll probably start from their time together on Team Minato and end with their antagonistic relationship in the series proper. Previous Weekly Shonen Jump music videos included "Haruka Kanata" from Naruto, "Samurai Heart (Some Like It Hot!!)" from Gintama, and "Asterisk" from Bleach. The trailers animated art from the manga and featured scenes from the entire series. It didn't only focus on the arc that the song was from. The trailers also only used the TV cut of the song, which means they're about a minute and a half long. "Silhouette" by Kana-Boon was the sixteenth opening for Naruto: Shippuden. At its peak, it was in eleventh place on the Oricon charts and in second place on the Japan Hot 100 chart. Because it achieved over 250,000 downloads, the Recording Industry Association of Japan gave it a Platinum certificate in August 2018. You can watch the music video for "Silhouette" here. The "Silhouette" trailer for Naruto will premiere on the Shonen Jump YouTube channel on July 22, 2023. There is also a Minato trailer, likely to commemorate Minato's one-shot after he won the Naruto character popularity poll. So, should you skip the campaign in Diablo 4? Note: If you want to learn all about the class buffs, nerfs, and changes in Diablo 4 Season 1, I recommend starting with the Sorcerer changes. Benefits of skipping the campaign in Diablo 4 Season 1 I highly recommend skipping the campaign in Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant. Whenever a new season starts in Diablo 4, you need to create a new character which means you start at level one. WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews Thursday, July 20, 2023 12:58 PM Based on the historical book the Landnámabók, Landnama is the tale of Norse settlers who arrived in Iceland in the 9th century and attempted to carve out a life for themselves in a new land.
