Imagine a world in which someone took Ken Sugimori's original Pokémon art and brought it to life with animation. And then, in this wonderful idyll, someone took inspiration from this fanart, and developed a 3D Pokémon game based on it.      Is Starfield Steam Deck compatible?

Is Starfield Steam Deck compatible? Having a Bethesda RPG installed on your Steam Deck feels like you don't need any other game on the handheld, and Starfield is no exception. Unfortunately, it appears we'll need to wait a while longer to take our space flights on the go.

As stated in the Starfield system requirements, you'll need 125GB of storage space if you want to head out exploring new planets. There's over a hundred different solar systems on offer, so it's not exactly a surprise the game takes up so much space. If you're hoping to play Bethesda's latest title on the go, you might want to check out our guide to the best microSD card for Steam Deck, especially if you've got the 64GB model.

Counter-Strike 2 death issue may be fixed with old Team Fortress trick

Counter-Strike 2 is now open to more players than ever, as Valve extends the CS2 beta test ahead of the full Counter-Strike 2 release date. One issue is making death in Counter-Strike 2 more frustrating than usual, however, as players find themselves suddenly dropping dead after retreating behind corners. With the FPS game and CSGO sequel on its way, there may be a method to remedy this frustrating problem, and it goes back to the early days of Team Fortress 2.

     Starfield's Adoring Fan explained

Who is the Starfield Adoring Fan? By Azura, he's back! Long-time Bethesda fans will be delighted and dismayed to discover the Adoring Fan – perhaps one of the most infamous NPCs in the studio's history – has made a return in Starfield.

With almost two decades between the Adoring Fan first stalking us around Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and the Starfield release date, the blonde superfan might be familiar. If you're completely new to his nagging sycophancy though, you might be wondering exactly who he is, what Starfield skills he can offer, and how to get him to follow you around in Starfield. Unlike the Adoring Fan, we're here to help.

     Best Starfield weapons and guns

What are the best Starfield weapons? Sure, space is pretty cool, but it's also pretty dangerous. While you can use your ship's turrets in interstellar combat to (hopefully) avoid being turned into nothing but space debris, you need the best gun and throwables on your person when coming face-to-face with a towering alien beast.

So you're going to need a vast arsenal of sci-fi weapons and Starfield guns to survive your journey through the stars, coming up against enemies like the Starfield Crimson Fleet pirates and various Starfield creatures. From modified shotguns and modern swords to futuristic laser weapons and electromagnetic blasters, we used many of these weapons during our playtime for our Starfield review - here are just some of the best Starfield weapons with which to equip you and your Starfield ship.

The best tycoon games to play 2023

What are the best tycoon games? Whether you're after classic park management, or taking charge of a complex, nuanced business, there are plenty of great options to choose from right now, across a range of themes. This is a classic genre that's had plenty of love since its early days, with sequels and new blood galore.

While there are plenty of classic tycoon games we could talk about - many of which are some of the best PC games available - we've decided to focus on modern highlights, as this is a genre that's constantly getting new releases and new ideas. We've also kept the definition relatively broad, as there are plenty of management games that you may not consider strictly 'tycoon' games, but have strong business or economic themes with the mechanics to back them up.

     Six strategy games like Civilization

What are the best games like Civilization? As the undisputed king of 4X games (for now), there are many who've tried to copy what Sid Meier created and plenty who want to play a Civ-like experience that wasn't created by Firaxis. We've delved into some of the best 4X games out there to save you the trouble of looking around.

Civilization games offer a unique vision of turn-based strategy where you start from humble origins, and lead a people through the ages, founding more cities, enriching your empire with cultural or technological advancements, and quite often, fighting other civilizations. While we have a dedicated list of great 4X games in general (on which you'll of course find Civilization), some of you may be interested in looking for something that more closely resembles Firaxis' popular series. Here's that separate list of games like Civilization then, but we've dug up some very specific examples to avoid too much overlap.

Diablo 4 runes and runewords explained

What are Diablo 4 runes and runewords? The feature is one Diablo fans will recognize, the idea being that you could combine individual runes into runewords and insert them into socketed items, adding to their powers and abilities. But with no runes in Diablo 4 just yet, we - like you - are eager to know whether they're coming, so we asked the devs, of course.

We know that D2's beloved runeword system was not available in Diablo 4 at launch, and won't be for some time - but that doesn't mean they're not making their way to the game in the future. Whichever of the five Diablo 4 classes you choose, runes would be combined and added to your items, just like gems, to increase their abilities. So what do we know about Diablo 4 runes, runewords, and when they're coming to the game?

     How to pickpocket in Starfield

How do you pickpocket in Starfield? If you have fond memories of pickpocketing unsuspecting NPCs or planting explosives in reverse pickpocketing style in the Fallout series, you might be wondering if Bethesda is carrying on that trend to its upcoming space game.

The Fallout games have all featured pickpocketing in some form, including perks that you can level up your stealing and sneaking skills. This remains true in Starfield, with the all-compassing game covering Starfield space combat, a long list of Starfield missions, and, of course, slyly stealing things from the pockets of everyone you see. So here's everything you need to know about pickpocketing in the RPG game.

Where can you sell Starfield items? It's a great question, because there is so much loot to pilfer and acquire throughout the enormous galaxy. You'll very quickly run out of storage space both in your inventory, in your ship's cargo hold, and on any poor companion you offload your junk to.

To make things more difficult, it seems at first like you can't even sell all your unwanted stuff to the same vendor.      Best Batman games on PC 2023

What are the best Batman games? The Caped Crusader has protected Gotham's streets for decades now across many media franchises. And naturally, the philanthropist-turned-superhero has, from time to time, swooped his way over to the world of video games.

Thankfully, unlike many other superhero games, most of the Batman games on PC have been quite good. Whether you're fighting criminals through the dank halls of Arkham Asylum or taking a more light-hearted romp through Gotham as his Lego counterpart, there's something for all fans of the Dark Knight. However, most of them come in the form of action-adventure games, and one or two could be argued to be some of the best PC games. We'll only be covering games where Batman, or Gotham, is the star, so no Injustice or Multiversus here, as good as those fighting games are, or anything that isn't easily accessible anymore.

The options you have for your crew are numerous; each member bringing their own skills and personality to the table, and it's up to you how you want your ship to feel.

As we said, there are many options when it comes to your Starfield crew, and one of those is Andreja - a morally central figure who is more than comfortable dealing with the more… clandestine nature of your mission. I am currently juggling two playthroughs of Starfield with very different aims. While Sayer the Space Scoundrel is having trouble getting around as they engage with the main story, I have started another character to engage in some nonsense (to the extent that there is any in Starfield) - the first of such I've detailed here.

I've said it before, but you're my very best friend, so we're going to play Starfield together. Join me as we step, wobbly and uncertain like Bambi on ice, into Bethesda's huge and partially procedurally generated space RPG universe for the adventures of Turbo Eclipse (I used an astronaut name generator intended for a child's party), a spacefaring nerd who longs only for the thrill of science. Yes, we're going to visit every planet in Starfield. Or at least as many as possible before I lose every single one of my marbles. And hey, planets look kinda like marbles! Strap in, spacefarers. Let's put this proc gen through its paces.

As someone with a general aversion to online competitive modes in games, I'm always grateful when someone, for once, especially in this age of endlessly bland multiplayer experiments, thinks of the solitary solo player. I'm especially grateful when us single player preferers get a knowing nod of acknowledgement in fighting games, too, which are so naturally geared toward pitting your skills against other human beings that anything involving playing against the AI is often either an afterthought or so threadbare that you can't help but feel like you're missing the point.

But that's still, for my sins, how I like to consume fighting games when I occasionally play them - which isn't often, I'll admit, for exactly the reasons described above - and so when I sat down for my Mortal Kombat 1 demo session at Gamescom this year, I was pleased to see not just a very slick story mode in attendance, but also a new single player challenge mode called Invasions that publishers Warner Bros described as "a giant interactive board game" that "lent into action RPG" territory. Its numerous node-based missions looked substantial based on what I played, and the idea of applying a seasonal service model to it, endlessly rotating in new locations and missions every so often - a whole different Invasion, so to speak - is actually something I'd be very much behind. It, that is, I was a) good at Mortal Kombat, and b) the missions I played during my demo weren't quite so… err… boring.

Towards the end of The Bookwalker: Thief Of Tales, I just wanted it to end. The adventure game's strong premise of a writer magically entering books to steal treasures wore thin across uninteresting puzzles, repetitive crafting, bland combat, and—worst of all for a game about the wonder of words—iffy writing. But once the credits rolled, I realised I had been fooled by its polished looks, and its core development was team was tiny (with a squad of external contributors), leaving me feeling a lot more forgiving. So, it's a good game to check out on Game Pass, or at least flick through the opening chapters.

"Modders will fix it" is a cliché, but the thing about clichés is they're rooted in fact. So it is with Starfield, which already has a DLSS mod ready to patch in the class-leading Nvidia upscaler that Bethesda left out in favour of AMD FSR 2.

It's the work of seasoned modder PureDark, previously seen hammering both DLSS and FSR into Skyrim. I've tried the Starfield mod and it works rather nicely, granting a visible quality boost on RTX graphics cards while equalling FSR's ability to smooth out Starfield's sometimes-tricky performance. Unfortunately (and largely by association), it's also been dragged into a spot of nasty business, one involving a separate mod for DLSS 3 frame generation and PureDark's application of DRM.

"It's incredibly weird for anybody who knows me that I've become the romance guy," David Gaider tells me. "I'm the least romantic guy. Especially when I get to the characters saying 'I love you' to each other…" Gaider mimes the sickliness of the scene and his own horrified response. "Apparently I did it so well on Baldur's Gate II that James Ohlen kept handing me this stuff. And, god, I hated it so much."

It's weird, in fact, that Gaider wound up working on Baldur's Gate II at all - let alone that he became synonymous with Dragon Age and romanceable companions afterwards. At 27 years old, he ran a hotel in Edmonton, Alberta - the same city where, unbeknownst to him, Bioware was busy making its name. Once it came time to make a sequel to Baldur's Gate, Bioware cast around for local writers, and a friend recommended Gaider, who had played D&D in the '80s before it fell out of fashion.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a relentlessly horny videogame, Alice B wrote back in August, and that certainly describes the shock I felt when noted Githyanki grouch Lae'zel abruptly informed me that she was down to clown, a whole three hours in. "Ms Lae'zel, I happen to be a graduate of BioWare Sex University," I told her sternly, adjusting my robe. "If I'm going to have a torrid liaison in an RPG it'll be 60 hours from now, just before the final battle, and let's face it, I'm more likely to get scared of alienating party members and end up friendzoning everybody."

Lae'zel proved persuasive, however - "I like the way you stink," was how I think she phrased it - and one risque fade-to-black later, we were triumphantly entwined in post-coital bliss. Well, at the risk of empirically demonstrating that romance is dead, it turns out all that might have been down to a technical problem. According to Larian CEO Sven Vincke, Baldur's Gate 3 characters were accidentally encoded to have very low standards at launch. Haha, I certainly can't relate!

One of the bigger Discourse torpedoes aimed at Starfield's glittering hull over the past month has been its strict division between planetary surfaces and outer space. Space sim fanatics were dismayed to learn that you can't actually fly down to the surface of the planets you're orbiting - instead, you hit a button to initiate a loading break and a landing cutscene, which makes outer space feel more like a glorified airlock chamber than, well, outer space. This segmented approach has prompted many unflattering comparisons with No Man's Sky, in which you can manually pilot through the atmosphere.

Players and critics were similarly disappointed by the apparent inability to manually fly between planets in different orbits - instead, the game invites you to pick a destination from your star map or while using your spaceship's scanner HUD, with the journey condensed to a cutscene, again. Well, I bring news on this front. You can actually fly "to" and perhaps even "between" planets in Starfield. But there are some buts. Buts of astronomical dimensions. Onward!

After much umming and erring which I'm sure has nothing to do with any Sony exclusivity agreements, Square Enix have confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 is, indeed, coming to PC. nikke nier automata interview

We've seen a lot of different special events happen in NIKKE: Goddess of Victory. New characters appear. There was a Chainsaw Man event. Now, we can get and use 2B, A2, and Pascal from NieR: Automata in the game. To learn more about the planning and preparations for this NIKKE NieR: Automata event, we spoke with Director Yoo Hyung-seok and Head of Scenario Plot Jeung Jae Sung about the crossover.

Jenni Lada: When did planning for the NIKKE x NieR: Automata event begin?

Yoo Hyung-seok: I'd wanted to collaborate with NieR: Automata since the planning stage. In fact, I've been a long-time fan, so I would have jumped at any collaboration opportunities even before the development of NIKKE. (Laughs) I started seriously considering a crossover with NieR: Automata after we launched pre-registration in 2022. This was when I heard about a collaboration opportunity from the business team.

What kind of work goes into planning a crossover like this?

Hyung-seok: We've always prepared various interesting elements for large-scale events in Goddess of Victory: Nikke. But in this crossover with NieR: Automata, we've focused more on hacking minigames and the UI. NieR: Automata's UI is a big feature of the game, so we've attempted to recreate the feel of it. Using the hacking minigames as an example, because the plot and story are inseparable elements in the original game, we wanted to recreate that sense of inseparability in this crossover.

Jeung Jae Sung: We've spent a lot of effort on the story. Goddess of Victory: Nikke and NieR: Automata have many similarities in terms of the theme, the overall atmosphere of the story, and world view. As a long-time fan of the NieR series, not just NieR: Automata, I really like the unique ambience of the story, which has had a significant impact on me as a developer. This great monument of a game has inspired me immensely. I focused on conveying deeply emotional and sincere stories in this crossover event.

How involved were the original staff from NieR: Automata when putting together the NIKKE event?

Hyung-seok: Both of us [Level Infinite and Square Enix] place great importance on player experience, and we hope to bring something new to fans of both games through this collaboration. You can experience the style of NieR from the UI design and gameplay and how the games are fused together.

How did you decide that 2B, A2, and Pascal would be the three playable characters for the NIKKE NieR: Automata event?

Hyung-seok: If I could have my way, there wouldn't be a single character left out! (Laughs) Among the characters of NieR: Automata, I personally really liked Pascal's story. Of course, I also loved 9S and Emil, so I really wanted to add them all in. I decided to give each of them a suitable position. 9S and 2B share a story and Pascal appears in the battle outlook as well as the side story, while Emil can be found on the field.

Other than that, many players may be surprised by Pascal's appearance. Pascal has healing abilities, which are very useful for Commanders who just started playing NIKKE for the collaboration event. Pascal's battle pose and reload motions are very cool as well, so please be sure to check it out in-game.

How influential were the original character designs when putting together 2B and A2's costumes, including the Metamorphic Damage ones, for the NieR: Automata NIKKE event?

Hyung-seok: Although the front/back appearance and standing/battle postures of 2B and A2 are the same, we put a lot of effort into showcasing their unique movements seen in NieR: Automata. The reloading motion is also very impactful. We're very pleased with it. Pascal's actions fully embody his personality. We're looking forward to the players' responses.

Was any specific music composed just for this event?

Hyung-seok: Many players are fond of NieR: Automata's BGMs. When I'm working on the computer, the music I listen to the most is the music from NieR: Automata's live concert. (Laughs) To commemorate the collab, we've produced OSTs that can make everyone feel the two games' fusion. We've prepared many sound tracks that give off the NieR: Automata vibe, so please look forward to them.

How accessible is the NieR: Automata event for newcomers to NIKKE?

Hyung-seok: We set the difficulty and balance in such a way that even novice Commanders would be able to complete the event storyline without too much trouble.

In addition to getting Pascal for free, we've also prepared various events where players can get additional rewards, such as a collaborative event Login Bonus, co-op, and Full Burst Day. We hope everyone will enjoy the event.

What NieR: Automata series Easter egg are you most proud made it into NIKKE?

Hyung-seok: Firstly, in terms of character design, Pod is set as a shooter in the original title. 2B and A2 do not use guns. We thought that this interaction would be an interesting addition to the crossover. Hence, we've tried to work out a balance: Let 2B have a gun while A2 wields a sword.

We've also dug deep into A2's berserker mode and created a figure of her wielding a sword, which turned out beautifully.

Jeung Jae Sung: In terms of the story, we put effort into striking the right chemistry between the two titles.

On top of that, we've also prepared a scene that would make NieR fans go, "Hm? Is this...? "

Hyung-seok: I hope this event can bring back everyone's experiences and memories of playing NieR: Automata. On top of the event stories and characters, if you can reminisce the overall narrative of NieR: Automata while playing, your experience will be even more fantastic.

Would a NieR Replicant NIKKE crossover ever be possible?

Yoo: I can't reveal too much about any new collaboration, so please stay tuned on NIKKE; there will be new stories coming your way.

Editor's Note: This interview was lightly edited for clarity.

NIKKE: Goddess of Victory is available on PCs and mobile devices. NieR: Automata is on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC, and its anime adaptation is streaming on Crunchyroll. The NIKKE NieR: Automata event runs September 1-27, 2023.
