Cities Skylines 2 Steam Deck compatability and best settings

Is Cities Skylines 2 Steam Deck compatible? Constructing a great city-building experience on the Steam Deck shouldn't be a difficult process, but the city-building sequel by Paradox Interactive hasn't yet been checked for compatibility. However, Valve has deemed its predecessor as playable, which bodes well for the performance of Cities Skylines 2 on the PC gaming handheld.

The Cities Skylines 2 system requirements require 50GB of install space before you start living out your city-building dreams, and while that's not as demanding as it could be, it's still a big step up from the previous game. Picking up one of the best microSD cards for Steam Deck will ensure you have enough of storage space to start shaping out your ideal thriving metropolis, especially if you own the 64GB model of the Valve handheld.

How to manage Cities Skylines 2 taxes

How do you manage Cities Skylines 2 taxes? As you build your first city, you may notice that you're hemorrhaging money on expenses you didn't know you needed to pay for. So naturally, you're looking for ways to recoup some savings to pay for goods and services for your residents and workers. However, just like it would be for a real government, raising taxes is not a popular option.

To raise taxes in Cities Skylines 2, you need to explore menus to get the data you need and change multiple sliders. So where do you strike a balance, and are there other ways to get Cities Skylines 2 money? That's pretty much one of the main points of the management game, with the other being to create a buzzing metropolis connected by a network of roads. However, with so many options on the screen at any time, it can be tricky to find at a glance, so we'll show you how and give you some tips on how to manipulate the CS2 taxes to fund your city fairly.

The best PC game you've never played is less than $3

Between Silent Hill 3, Max Payne 2, Beyond Good and Evil, and a little game called Call of Duty, 2003 was a busy year. At the time, IO Interactive was riding high on Hitman 2 Silent Assassin, with Hitman Contracts, one of the best and darkest entries in the whole series, set to follow a year later. Nevertheless, the future James Bond game studio found time for a small side project. Set in an alternate history where Soviet Russia beats the US to building the atomic bomb, and thus becomes the world's dominant superpower, it follows a ragtag group of rebels as they launch a guerilla resistance against an invasion of New York City. Smart, fluid, intuitive, and with a terrific soundtrack, somehow IO's superb new squad shooter failed to capture the market. 20 years later, Freedom Fighters remains one of the greatest games of all time - if you've never played it, or want to go around again, it's on sale for less than $3.

It's hard to imagine blockblustery first-person shooting today without Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's online progression systems, which - inasmuch as you can assign this much clout to a single game or developer - transformed the genre back in 2007 by reinventing multiplayer as a kind of RPG. Shooters without COD-style gear levelling ladders do exist, not least Counter-Strike 2, but most of the juggernauts depend on such fixtures, especially now that free-to-play service models have become the norm. So it's jarring to hear from Mackey McCandlish, one of Modern Warfare's original developers, that the old Infinity Ward team were split over the act of using XP to unlock guns, with some worrying it would be "unfair".

Nijisanji possible new members

The English language branch of Nijisanji tweeted a cryptic message that could hint at the arrival of new Vtubers. While nothing has been confirmed as yet, many agencies like to tease upcoming debuts with messages such as these.

The image tweeted includes the words "I sharpen my claws, I don my mask, I polish my sword, I seek my desire." The most straightforward interpretation for this would be that there will be foir members of this group, each bearing or having an association with the items described in the teaser, but it is also possible that they are all referencing a single liver. The messages could also be tied to descriptors for character profiles, if this is indeed referencing four new performers.

You can find the teaser itself embedded below:

https://twitter.com/nijisanji_world/status/1717073506993836350

The previous set of new Nijisanji Vtubers debuted in June 2023 when Vantacrow Bringer, Vezalius Bandage and Yu Q. Wilson joined the English branch of the association.

The agency recently suffered several graduations. Some of them involved members of the Indonesia branch. Another involved the liver Mika Melatika, who had previously announced she would be going on hiatus for a period of time in October 2023.

Also in October 2023, several Nijisanji livers from the Japanese branch collaborated with Street Fighter 6 as part of a merchandise lottery that included badges, bags and acrylic stands.

No date has been confirmed for the debut of any possible new Nijisanji Vtubers.

Akira Manga Author Katsuhiro Otomo Teases New Series

Renowned Akira manga author Katsuhiro Otomo teased he is working on a new manga title on social media. Otomo has been focusing since 2019 on the anime film adaptation of his manga Orbital Era.

The original post includes a picture depicting a drawing of Kiyoko, the leader of The Espers, a group of children with psychic powers and paranormal abilities that appear in the Akira series. One of Kiyoko's many abilities include precognitive powers. The drawing is located in the message board at the Akira Cel Exhibition in Osaka, which ended on October 24, 2023.

Japanese text accompanies the drawing of Kiyoko, and it translates to "I saw in a dream that my manga author friend was drawing a new comic book." Meanwhile, Otomo himself wrote a caption alongside the image that reads "Kiyoko's precognitive dream comes true." There are no details on what type of new manga Katsuhiro Otomo is currently working on.

You can check out Otomo's social media post here:

https://twitter.com/otomo_zenshu/status/1717041525295890901

Aside from his work as the Akira author, Katsuhiro Otomo's last work on a manga is the 2012 one-shot entry in his 1980's series. Kibun Wa Mou Senso. That roughly translates to The Mood is Already of War. In recent years, the artist has been focusing on writing and directing the anime film adaptation of his 2001 manga Orbital Era.

Another manga artist that recently communicated his progress through social media is Hunter x Hunter author Yoshihiro Togashi. At the beginning of October 2023, the artist posted his progress on the manga for the first time since March 2023.

Some iconic areas were also shown, such as the Dremuchij Forest where the Virtuous Mission commences, the emblematic Dolinovodno rope bridge, the Rassvet abandoned factory, and even the Krasnogorje Mountainside pass leading to the Groznyj Grad fortress, alongside its iconic surveillance helicopter, among others.

You can check out the new Metal Gear Solid Delta footage shown at minute 14:41 here:

Metal Gear Solid Delta is a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The game was revealed back during the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, and it is being developed in Unreal Engine 5. Back in June 2023, Konami announced that the original English and Japanese voice actors from MGS3 will appear in the remake.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is currently in development for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is included in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, now available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and Nintendo Switch. A PS4 version will appear at a later date.

review: World of Horror Awakens the 80s Retro Vibes

The Old Gods are awakening. As they rise from their long slumber, they bring with them otherworldly horrors that rattle a seaside Japanese town as it slowly descends into madness. People begin to mysteriously disappear, villagers don strange masks and perform occult-like rituals, blood flows from shower heads, and flashes of horrifying faces appear in mirrors. As these strange phenomenons begin to tear apart reality and the sanity of the townspeople, the player must investigate multiple mysteries in World of Horror in order to either save the town or doom it to its horrific fate.

[caption id="attachment_992127" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

World of Horror, by Panstasz and published by Ysbyrd Games, has been in early access since February 2020, which was rather apt time for a game about world-altering horrors to come out. As a part of a friend's pandemic birthday celebration, he asked my best friend and I if we wanted to watch him play over Discord and, despite us not knowing much about the game, we both said yes. I was instantly mesmerized by the retro vibes of World of Horror. The 1-bit graphics, hand-drawn artwork, creepy Junji Ito and H.P. Lovecraft-inspired story, and art direction called out to me in a way very few games do. It felt like the magic of discovering something as interesting as Homestuck, Undertale, and Mariya Takeuchi's "Plastic Love" all at the same time. I swore that I would play this game once it was out of early access, but I didn't realize it would take another three years before it would finally be released fully on PC and consoles. Now that I've had the chance to play through World of Horror, I can easily say that I've loved every moment of it, even with its flaws.

The gameplay of World of Horror is straightforward yet full of nuance as players advance through the story. Players can choose between five characters to play as in order to explore five randomly selected mysteries per playthrough. Each mystery has a set amount of endings, and those different endings influence the overall outcome of your playthrough. In order to undercover each mystery, you have to explore various locations and investigate them. Sometimes while investigating, random instances can happen that lower or raise your character's Stamina and Reason depending on if you pass certain skill checks. Stamina is your character's health points, and Reason is your character's ability to perceive reality and cope with the horrifying events going on around them. Once you lose all Stamina, your playthrough will end, and in most cases if your Reason drops down to zero, the player character will be sent to an asylum for a mental break. Other skill checks may allow you to find clues to solve the mystery, gain experience points, avoid being harmed by a random enemy, or find items that will help you on your quest. These actions may appear as strange woman with no eyes bumping into you, or even something as mundane as finding a piece of paper on the ground. Most actions taken will increase the Doom counter in the game, which alters the state of the world as the player advances the story until the Old Gods awaken and you get an instant game over.

[caption id="attachment_992121" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

While much of the game is random and solving some mysteries may not happen in initial playthroughs, as you play you maintain certain bits of information and skills that carry over into future playthroughs similar to some roguelikes out there. The more endings you uncover and the more clues you obtain, the more likely it is for you to solve the various mysteries in the game and obtain better endings or clear the game before getting a game over. There are also combat segments that allow the player to face off grotesquely infested schoolgirls, creepy clown stalkers, and other mutilated creatures. The player gets a certain amount of actions per turn, and depending on the cost of an action for a certain weapon or attack, you can get more or less attacks in a turn. Players can also cast spells to increase their stats, attack enemies with stronger attacks at the cost of their Doom counter going up, and beyond. When the player levels up in World of Horror, they can also earn perks that assist with increasing EXP, stamina, and other stats. Conversely, there are curses that can befall the player and slowly decrease their Reason or cause damage to the player over time among other functions.

World of Horror doesn't immediately make you aware of how to play it properly. It is clear Panstasz clearly wants the player to experiment and engage with the game's systems and learn the best way to approach playing it with hands-on experience. After all, the game is meant to be played repeatedly throughout multiple playthroughs, and each playthrough can run between thirty minutes or two hour depending on your familiarity with the game or how far you delve into a mystery. Also not all segments of the game will play out with the same sort of style. At one point I was no longer exploring the streets of Shiokawa but instead was attending a strange festival where people seemed to be disappearing. I had to navigate the festival and areas surrounding it to uncover a cult's plans to sacrifice people to the Old Gods. It felt like a beach episode from some sort of anime but instead of a fun beach day with friends, it was a creepy forest and a bunch of occultists staring from the distance at my chosen character, Aiko, as she looked for her friends.

[caption id="attachment_992123" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

As somebody not generally affected by horror, I can't say I found anything in this game overly frightening, but the more gory aspects of the game could definitely creep people out who are sensitive to that kind of imagery. The good thing about the World of Horror is that it doesn't try to scare the player with random jump scares or overly grotesque visuals. There are odd, off-putting visuals that pop in briefly, but they never felt like they were trying to outright make me jump out of my chair. It utilizes more subtle yet bizarre visuals to instill a sense of horror to the player. For any H.P. Lovecraft, Junji Ito, or Koji Suzuki fan, you can really see the inspirations in the long limbed characters climbing out of vents, people with spiral-shaped lacerations on their face, and floating tentacle creatures in the sky.

While I love the 80s aesthetics of this game, there were times where some information seemed a bit indecipherable on screen at times. There are so many buttons and things to look at. It all starts to blend together and if you aren't really paying attention, you can lose track of your mouse or just feel overwhelmed by everything that is on screen. It is made worse in the 2-bit mode which feels like it adds too much unnecessary visual information for the player to process, although the added colors do add to the ambiance of the game.

[caption id="attachment_992124" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

The chiptune music paired with the visuals of World of Horror is where everything seems to come together perfectly. The haunting loop of synthesized music that harkens back to the more mysterious ambient music found in games from the 80s and 90s enhances the experience. As story events start to become tense, the music will shift and become more unsettling.

While the horror in World of Horror wasn't frightening to me, I really loved the vibes of this game. Everything from the visuals to the story to the music all come together to create this wonderfully crafted tale that intrigues you and makes you want to keep learning more about this doomed seaside town and the bizarre people who live in it. It is astounding that Panstasz hand drew the art of this game in MS Paint and made this game all on his own because it accomplishes so much through its simplistic design and presentation. World of Horror is absolutely an instant cult classic, making it perfect for people who love adventure games or have an appreciation for grotesque, Eldritch horrors.

World of Horror is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC.

Final Fantasy XIV All Saints' Wake

The annual Final Fantasy XIV All Saints' Wake Halloween event will return on October 27, 2023 with two new event items. The quest this year's level requirement is 15 and is pick up at the Adventurer's Guild Investigator in Old Gridania.

The new rewards include the All Saint's Charm emote, which sends forward a little golden star that explodes into a misty effect if it collides with a target. Also available is the Wall-Mounted Vampire Bats decoration, which can be placed on the walls of player housing. Some items from previous events will be available from an NPC called the Bespectacled Peddler, also in Old Gridania.

You can get a look at the new emote, it's effect, and the decoration below:

The 2022 version of the Final Fantasy XIV Halloween event allowed players to obtain a doctor's outfit to wear or use as a glamour, as well as the Caged Wisp decoration for placing on tabletops.

This isn't the only recent update for the game. Square Enix held its London Fan Festival for the MMORPG, where branded glowsticks were available for the first time, in Europe. Meanwhile, in Japan a Tokyo-based player was arrested for stalking another person both in and out of game.

The Final Fantasy XIV All Saint's Wake 2023 event will begin on October 25, 2023 and end on November 13, 2023. Final Fantasy XIV is available for PS4, PS5, and PC with an Xbox version on the way.

Mario Party 3 Ninendo Switch Online

Nintendo have announced that Mario Party 3 is heading to Nintendo Switch Online. The third instalment of the friendship-ruining party game series will be joining the service's N64 library on October 27, 2023.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVIMltxmBYo

Nintendo originally confirmed that Mario Party 3 was coming to the service in September 2022, as part of a selection of games set to be joining the N64 library throughout 2022 and 2023. While the first two games joined the service soon after, Mario Party 3 is only now getting its turn. Like all N64 games, it will be part of the Expansion Pack. This optional subscription also allows access to Game Boy Advance and Sega Genesis games.

Mario Party 3 originally released for the N64 in 2000 in Japan and 2001 worldwide. It was the final Mario Party game for the console and is most notable for introducing a Story Mode for solo players. It also introduced Daisy and Waluigi to the roster, who would go on to be playable in every following game. Like other Mario Party games, the objective is to collect more stars than your friends by moving around a tabletop board and playing minigames.

Mario Party 3 will be released for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on October 27, 2023.

PS5 slim

The detachable disc drive for the PS5 Slim may require an internet connection to work. This is based on images of the new console box that emerged online, prompting concern from users. [Thanks, IGN!]

The discovery of the PS5 disc drive internet connection issue came from images of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III bundle, posted by fan site Charlie Intel. Followers noticed that in the image of the box, the small print mentions the need for an internet connection when pairing the drive with the console. As the text specifies this is "upon setup," it's likely this is a one-time connection only, rather than the unit requiring a persistent connection to work.

While the news is unlikely to be a problem for anyone who plans to connect their console to the internet anyway, it has attracted criticism related to preservation. For example, Digital Foundry's John Linneman pointed out that the servers for this may not always be available in the future.

However, this appears to not be a new thing. According to a 2020 article from Wired, the base PS5 already has this requirement, as does the Xbox series of consoles. However, this is less obvious with the drives being connected to the units in the first place. The move appears to be an attempt to block piracy and jailbreaking, using custom circuit boards that communicate with the console's motherboard to ensure they each contain compatible firmware. A section of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act also makes it illegal to circumvent systems such as these, effectively outlawing third-party repairs. This means it's unlikely that Sony will be removing the connection requirement for the PS5 Slim disc drive any time soon.

The PS5 Slim will be released in November 2023 in the US. It will appear in other countries worldwide in the following months.

Star Ocean The Second Story Rena Openings Compared

With Star Ocean The Second Story R, the opening segments for Rena and Claude may look different. To help compare, Square Enix shared a trailer focusing on Rena's introduction.

Rather than a split-screen effect showing how the original PlayStation game introduction looks compared to the new one, this video involves clips shown one after another. The Star Ocean The Second Story R Rena introduction trailer begins with the 1998 peek at the continent on Expel from above, before showing the 2023 more detailed look at the map. From there, we see the mysterious object descending to the Sacred Forest just outside of Rena's hometown of Arlia. In the 2023 version, it's a more vague glowing orb compared to the original. It then shows the focus on Rena and her mother Westa's home in the 1998 version. In the 2023 version of the game, there will be a more panning view of Arlia itself instead.

https://twitter.com/StarOcean/status/1717179620150391174

It's important to note that while this is a video comparing the first few moments of the Star Ocean The Second Story R Rena route, we never actually see her in the footage. Instead, it focuses on setting the stage before a player gets to pick up her adventure and control her as she heads into the Sacred Forest. The demo, which is immediately available worldwide, lets someone see the new introduction firsthand.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R will come to the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC on November 2, 2023. The game can also immediately be found on the PlayStation and PSP worldwide and the PS3, PS4, and Vita in Japan.

Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood Samurai Jacket Arrives in December

Square Enix and Insert Coin announced a Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood Samurai jacket is on the way. Pre-orders are open for $85.99 through the official site ahead of its December 2023 debut.

This is a sukajan (souvenir jacket) style jacket. It is a unisex design, so anyone could wear it. For example, the official Insert Coin storefront shows both a man and woman wearing the large size. The jacket is available in sizes XS through 3XL. It is red, like the Samurai job's clothing, and features the Final Fantasy XIV job's icon stitched on the front in black. On the back, you can see the embroidered Sen Gauge icons in their matching colors. The jacket also has black sleeves with a red stripe and yellow accents.

Here's a closer look at it:

Previously, the two companies came together for another jacket. Around the Endwalker launch, there was a similar piece based on the Paladin.

This comes ahead of the latest free trial update for the MMORPG. Square Enix confirmed that people who test it out can now go through the Stormblood expansion when they do. This means the trial includes the base game and two expansions, as it previously only included the base game and Heavensward.

The Square Enix and Insert Coin Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood Samurai job jacket will arrive in December 2023. FFXIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and the free trial now includes the Stormblood expansion.
