PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 12:19 PM Dead Space security clearance levels are one of the major changes that Motive has made in the horror remake. While the original iteration of Isaac Clarke's time aboard the Ishimura was a linear progression from beginning to end, returning players may be surprised to find that Isaac can now backtrack to previous areas via the tram system. The Dead Space security clearance levels allow you to enter previously inaccessible parts of the ship once you've sufficiently upgraded your Rig's authorisation. These security doors are entirely optional, but they contain valuable loot that can help you save up for expensive items located in the Store, such as the best Dead Space suit upgrades or even Dead Space Power Nodes that you can then put towards unlocking the best Dead Space weapon upgrades. If you're looking to see everything one of the best PC games of 2023 has to offer, the Dead Space security clearance levels are essential. PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 12:17 PM Looking forward to the Prologue release date? If you're a fan of PUBG: Battlegrounds and you've been keeping an eye on PlayerUnknown himself, then chances are you're desperate to find out what Brendan Greene is up to. Well, you're not alone. From what we've seen and heard so far, it appears that Greene will be leaving his battle royale roots behind him to create the foundations for new and innovative open-world games. Prologue is, at its core, a pay-what-you-want tech demo that'll feature a huge open world that you can explore at your own pace. But what it means is much, much more - especially if his team can pull it off. MORE FROM PCGAMESN: Upcoming PC Games |
PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 12:16 PM Looking for Genshin Impact codes? Gathering currency in Genshin Impact can be quite the grind - while you can earn Mora and Primogems by completing quests such as daily commissions, an injection of extra funds will always be gratefully received. Fortunately, the developers occasionally send out free gifts in the form of Genshin Impact codes that can be redeemed online. Most codes also only work for a limited time - so it's a good idea to redeem them as soon as possible in case you miss out. Codes can only be redeemed once per account. Genshin Impact codes are released periodically, frequently appearing in Hoyoverse's special programs that reveal information about future updates coming to the free PC game soon, but also to celebrate milestones or to coincide with new Genshin Impact events. Here are all the current Genshin Impact codes for January 2023, and how to redeem them. MORE FROM PCGAMESN: Genshin Impact codes, Genshin Impact character tier list, Genshin Impact leveling guide |
PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 12:20 PM Desperate to learn how to beat the Dead Space Leviathan boss in the remake? Don't worry, we'll help you launch the sci-fi sphincter into the abyss. The remake's undead mass of toxic tentacles is arguably just as difficult to trump as the original, but Motive's new zero-gravity feature makes all the difference this time around. Dead Space Remake boss fights are few and far between, but fans of the 2008 release will remember the Leviathan. Motive's take on the gargantuan Necromorph looks gnarlier than ever in one of the best PC games of 2023, but it still pulls some irritating moves to send Isaac to his grave. All the best horror games usually feature a difficult encounter or two, but if you prepare beforehand - including the best weapon upgrades and suit upgrades - it makes the eerie exchange all the more enjoyable. |
PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 12:09 PM As a veteran of the USG Ishimura, the prospect of a Dead Space Remake new game plus must be a tantalising one - not only did the remake change up the iconic ship, its enemies, and your objectives, but with new game plus, you get to explore it all over again with an even bigger target on your back. A lot of story games add new game plus modes to give experienced, hardcore players a chance to prove just how really good they are, and the Dead Space remake is no exception. If our Dead Space Remake review is anything to go by, it could be making our end-of-year best PC games list, so why wouldn't you want to play through it more than once? PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 12:03 PM Whether you're brand new to the series or a necromorph-stomping veteran, you're going to have a vested interest in the Dead Space Peng treasure location. If this is your first time aboard the USG Ishimura, then you're probably wondering: what exactly is Peng? Well, that's a bit of a tough question. We don't know exactly what Peng is within the game's universe, but for the purposes of the Dead Space remake gameplay, it's a one-of-a-kind, ultra-rare collectable stashed away somewhere within the environment. The Dead Space Peng treasure is no longer located in the same place as in the original version of the Ishimura, so not even the keenest of memories will be of much help. Thankfully, we've got all the info you need when it comes to locating the Dead Space Peng treasure within the vast, corpse-riddled corridors of one of the best PC games this year. PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 11:56 AM Excited for The Day Before release date? When its first trailer dropped back in 2021, The Day Before blew people away with its gritty open-world set in the United States following a deadly pandemic. A survival MMO, the game will see players exploring the world, scavenging for resources in the abandoned metropolis of New York City and the lush countryside outside it, all while taking down (or hiding from) infected, zombie-like enemies, and other players alike. The devs switched to Unreal Engine 5 which pushed the release date to 2023, but we're finally approaching the day we'll be able to explore the post-apocalyptic Big Apple that Fntastic has crafted. If The Day Before manages to look and play remotely like the trailer footage, it could join our list as one of the best PC games. PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 11:49 AM The best games like Fire Emblem bring aspects of the popular RPG franchise to PC. Of course, you're not going to get an exact replica of the Nintendo-developed Fire Emblem, but whatever it is that intrigues you about the games, whether you've played them or not, there'll be something on this list for you. Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a unique union of Persona and grid-based warfare. It manages to make building an army fun as well as a megalomaniacal necessity, and is firmly one of the best tactical RPGs around. Since the fantasy games series is exclusive to Nintendo platforms, though, it's perfectly understandable why you might be looking for a PC alternative. So don't despair; there are a ton of similar games available right now, and we've listed them right here. |

PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 11:23 AM The best Dead Space suit upgrades appear as elusive schematics scattered across the Ishimura, and taking the time to track them down can be the difference between life and death – or worse, a full inventory. Resource Integration Gear, otherwise known as RIGs, are specialised suits designed to assist the wearer in a number of ways. RIGs come with built-in health management and navigational systems as standard, but that's only scratching the surface of what benefits they provide. Isaac begins his ill-fated tour of the Ishimura while wearing his default suit, the appropriately named Standard Engineer RIG, but it doesn't offer much in the way of protection against necromorphs. In order to survive, you must keep an eye out for Dead Space suit upgrades. Each one grants additional armour and inventory space, both of which will serve you well in what's shaping up to be one of the best PC games of 2023. The best Dead Space weapon upgrades can be accessed at a bench. Each upgrade requires a Dead Space Power Node to unlock, and you can find them scattered throughout the Ishimura. They're quite rare to come by outside of purchasing them from the shop, so it's important to use them wisely if you're looking to upgrade your weapons to their full potential. PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 10:27 AM Just like your favourite horror movie, the Dead Space Remake ending is packed with twists, turns, and turmoil. It's hard not to feel bad for Isaac Clarke, as escaping the USG Ishimura sort of feels like leaping from the frying pan into the fire. So, if you're a bit confused about what just happened after the final showdown on Aegis IV, we're here to break things down and explain the horror game's blood-curdling climax. As you'd perhaps expect, our Dead Space Remake ending explained guide spills the beans on Isaac's closing act. As such, the following recap is packed with major story spoilers, and since it's likely to be one of the best horror games - and possibly one of the best PC games - of 2023, we'd advise proceeding with caution. However, if you're just about to reboard the mining vessel using New Game Plus, you might benefit from a recap. |

PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 10:24 AM Want to know who the voice actors are in the Dead Space cast? Based on the 2008 original, the sci-fi series that taught us not to aim for the head will again terrify us with a gritty reboot nearly 15 years later. With its gross-out body horror and grizzly monster designs, it's bound to, at the very least, give us some rather vivid nightmares. No voice actors from the original Dead Space are coming back to voice their characters, though some talented actors that were recast for the sequels are returning to their roles. It may be a remake, but if our Dead Space remake review is anything to go off of, it has a shot at being one of the best PC games this year, and a good voice cast that sells the action goes a long way to help with the immersion. PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 9:51 AM Minecraft armor trims and smithing templates are a new feature coming to Minecraft in the 1.20 update later this year. A Minecraft armor update is something fans have been after for years. Not only is armour customisation finally here, but it's also challenging and adds a new use to the existing smithing table. Minecraft is one of the best PC games of all time, thanks, in part, to its regular content updates. In order to play with the new Minecraft armor trims in Java Edition, as well as any other upcoming new features, you need to turn on the experimental features data pack in the latest Minecraft snapshot. Once you've done that, you'll notice a difference to the smithing table interface. Previously used for turning Minecraft diamond into Netherite, which is still one of its uses, the smithing table now has additional slots. These slots can only be used when a template, item, and precious resource are all placed within it. MORE FROM PCGAMESN: Minecraft seeds, Minecraft skins, Minecraft mods |
PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 9:49 AM If you're wondering about Destiny 2 crossplay, then you're in luck. The hugely popular shooter is built around social interaction, with players teaming up in nearly every aspect of the game, whether that's something as simple as a public event in the overworld, to a crushingly difficult raid, you need players to have your back if you want to survive. Teaming up in Destiny 2 was traditionally confined to those players with whom you shared a platform, with PC players being forced to stick together. But what if you have friends who enjoyed the FPS game on a console, is there a way to get everyone involved so you can enjoy one of the best PC games ever in the company of friends? With the Destiny 2 Lightfall release date on the horizon, it's more vital than ever. |
PCGamesN Friday, January 27, 2023 9:46 AM How long is Dead Space? The Dead Space Remake makes a number of key changes to differentiate it from the original game in order to bring it up to today's high standards. The most obvious change to the game is that it looks visually stunning, but the Dead Space Remake features a number of important gameplay tweaks to improve the 2008 cult classic. It's no surprise that Dead Space remains one of the best horror games we've ever played, and there's a good chance this remake ends up on our best PC games list by the end of the year. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 27, 2023 10:47 AM It turns out Forspoken has bigger problems than some badly-landing bantz. The PC version absolutely brutalises low-end hardware, an issue compounded by its high yet often unhelpful system requirements, and framerate drops and stuttering remain common even on some of the best graphics cards around. Siliconera Friday, January 27, 2023 3:00 PM Given the whole point of Siliconera is to talk about games coming out of Japan, we have thoughts on both new and old titles! Especially since, in the past, we weren't "eating" as well as we are in recent years. It used to be a special occasion if something niche was localized. A lot ended up left trapped in the country. So today, we're thinking back to some of the best PS2 games in Japan that remain exclusive and elusive imports Fire Emblem isn't on the PS2, but TearRing Saga: Berwick Saga is as close as you can possibly get. Former Intelligent Systems member Shouzou Kaga formed Tirnanog and set up his own studio making strikingly similar strategy games. There are similar classes, there are supports, and humanoid dragons show up. However, you also need to take care, as people can become injured in battles, and there's a different kind of grid for more tactical approaches. It's good, and absolutely one of the best PS2 games that is a Japan-exclusive title — Jenni For the longest time, I weighed the pros and cons of both Tales of Destiny 2 and Tales of Rebirth to decide which of the two is the superior Japan-exclusive Tales. However, Rebirth managed to eke past Destiny 2 simply because I personally was less frustrated playing Rebirth. Tales of Rebirth has a fantastic story with lots of fun and well-developed characters. Yeah, its racism theme was kind of on-the-nose but it told its story and got its message across in a very effective way. The 3-line battle system was really fun until you get boxed in by those annoying emu things in the desert. I'd much prefer that over dealing with Destiny 2's battle system, though. It feels like Rebirth had way more skits than other Tales games, which could be annoying for people who just want to get a move-on with the story. But when I played it, I really enjoyed the party dynamic and their interactions, and it certainly helped to remind me of what I needed to do if I took a break in between play sessions. Tales of Rebirth was actually the very first Tales game I properly played and beat, so there's a tinge of nostalgia there too. Hopefully, Bandai Namco decides to remaster this one and bring it to the west so that others can enjoy it as well. Remember: Mao is the best boy. — Stephanie Yippie yo! You can't touch this! (Check the above link for my first encounter with Poinie's Poin, a game I did indeed immediately go find on eBay and play through. It's incredibly charming. It's bad. But it's great.) — Graham I have a couple of import-only gems in mind when I think of what PS2 games I'd love to see make the jump, but What are the Best PS2 Games Only Released in Japan? appeared first on Siliconera. |

Siliconera Friday, January 27, 2023 2:00 PM The fight of the ages is set to take place in April 2023. A new movie called Youju Kitan Ninja VS Shark is coming out in Japan, courtesy of local label Extreme Film Distribution. The film pits a massive, supernaturally-empowered shark against Japan's famed ninja warriors. It's described as joining in on the relatively recent trend of shark-themed genre films, such Sharknado, Sharktopus, and The Meg. It premieres in Japan on April 14, 2023 [Thanks, Denfaminico Gamer!]. Youju Kitan Ninja VS Shark takes place during the Edo period. A group of heretics led by the foul Samejiro has been using ninjutsu magic to manipulate sharks to attack villagers, stealing their pearls. A desperate village chief contacts an independent ninja, Kotaro Shiozaki to avenge the slaughtered innocents and face off against Samejiro and his gigantic shark bodyguard. Extreme Film Distribution did not have a trailer for the film, but did release a teaser poster. [gallery columns="1" size="medium" link="file" ids="948662"] Youju Kitan Ninja VS Shark may have a pulpy premise, but its staff involves veteran talent. Director Koichi Sakamoto is a former stunt actor and has experience with numerous tokusatsu films and series. These include working on Super Sentai shows like Maskman and Gokaiger, and Kamen Rider shows like Kamen Rider Fourze, and the currently-airing Kamen Rider Geats. He also worked overseas, becoming a founding crew member for MMPR Productions, which helped produce Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. He also worked on Ultraman titles for Tsuburaya, including Ultraman Decker. The stars also have some history with tokusatsu. Kotaro is played by Kohshu Hirano, who played Haruki Natuskawa, the protagonist of Ultraman Z. Shun Nishime, who played Takeru Tenkuji, protagonist of Kamen Rider Ghost, plays Kotaro's companion Shinsuke. Yuuichi Nakamura, known to many as Zeronos from Kamen Rider Den-O, plays Samejiro. It was one of two outfits released to celebrate the game passing the hallmark of shipping one million units. The original game ended up getting a matching white one called White Lily of Summer. The Atelier Ryza 2 High Summer Formal figure will come to Japan in March 2024 and North America in May 2024. Pre-orders are open until February 23, 2023. Siliconera Friday, January 27, 2023 1:00 PM When Netflix announced its Cowboy Bebop live-action adaptation, it also noted creator Shinichiro Watanabe would be involved as a consultant. Now in an interview with Forbes, Watanabe revealed his exact thoughts on the adaptation. He said that after watching the first episode's opening scene set in a casino, that "It was clearly not Cowboy Bebop..." [Thanks, Forbes!] Here is the full statement Watanabe gave to Forbes regarding the Cowboy Bebop live-action adaptation. For the new Netflix live-action adaptation, they sent me a video to review and check. It started with a scene in a casino, which made it very tough for me to continue. I stopped there and so only saw that opening scene. It was clearly not Cowboy Bebop and I realized at that point that if I wasn't involved, it would not be Cowboy Bebop. I felt that maybe I should have done this. Although the value of the original anime is somehow far higher now. The Netflix take on the show only lasted for a single season. Back in December 2021, the company confirmed it was canceled. The adaptation adjusted or changed various elements, for example the nature of Ein. It ended on a cliffhanger, which saw Spike Spiegel, played by John Cho, meeting Ed, portrayed by Eden Perkins. It is still possible to watch the Cowboy Bebop live-action first season on Netflix. You can see the anime on streaming services like Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Netflix. The post Cowboy Bebop Creator Said Live-Action Version 'Clearly Not Cowboy Bebop' appeared first on Siliconera. |

Siliconera Friday, January 27, 2023 11:30 AM As promised, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet can now find a Greninja Tera Raid. The first round kicked off on January 27, 2023, which means we now know what sorts of attacks and moves the level 100 Pokemon will use during the fight. Also, as a reminder, this is a character that bears a Mightiest Mark and is a seven-star raid, so expect a challenge. The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Greninja Tera Raid dens are distinctive, as usual. If you completed the Academy Ace Tournament, Path of Legends, Starfall Street, and Victory Road storylines, you'll see the black Tera Raid dens on your map and the raids show up in the Tera Raid Battle section at the Poke Portal. Once you enter the fight, you'll face a level 100 Greninja who could use Double Team, Gunk Shot, Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Night Slash, and Toxic Spikes. It will always be a Poison Tera type. You can participate in the fight multiple times, getting rewards like EXP Candy and Poison Tera Shards. You can only catch this Greninja once. You'll also only get TM 91: Toxic Spikes once after fighting it. As usual, beating Greninja does mean you can then breed it. This allows you to get Froakie and Frogadier. However, these ones will not have a Mightiest Mark. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available for the Nintendo Switch, and the Greninja Tera Raid will be available January 27-30, 2023, then February 10-13, 2023. Siliconera Friday, January 27, 2023 11:00 AM The Twitter account for Penny Blood has uploaded a short video introducing the game's atmosphere and main protagonist Matthew. Stills of the trailer originally appeared during the Kickstarter campaign for Penny Blood. The trailer does not have any voices and it is possible that the final game will feature no voice acting. This is because Penny Blood did not reach that milestone on Kickstarter. You can view the Penny Blood video here: https://twitter.com/PennyBloodGame/status/1618830622381977600 It is fairly short, at just a little over half a minute. The Penny Blood video is set in 1920s New York, and protagonist Matthew walks up to an asylum that will serve as the first level for the game. He steps on a strange flesh-like mass on the way. Though Penny Blood is from the creators of Shadow Hearts, the two games will only have a tangential relation. Penny Blood will take place in the 1920s because no Shadow Hearts game happened during that era. As well, Malice, which was a major concept in Shadow Hearts, will play a part in Penny Blood. The writing in Penny Blood will also share the same combination of gothic horror and comedy that Shadow Hearts had. Penny Blood is in development and will come out on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC in Spring 2025. It may come out on the Nintendo Switch as well. Not long after the reveal, she took to Twitter to offer closer insights into the outfits for the Hololive EN and ID members. First, here's the actual reveal video for the new idol outfits the Vtubers will wear at Hololive 4th fes. It began by revisiting the designs from past performances. Siliconera Friday, January 27, 2023 9:30 AM HoYoVerse dropped a new tidbit of regarding the locations that will be available to players in Honkai Star Rail. A new "Traveler's Guide" series posted to the HoYoLab community site details the Honkai Star Rail Xianzhou Luofu, a massive starship. The blog post summarized the nature of the Honkai Star Rail Xianzhou Luofu. It is one of the six flagships of the in-game faction, the Xianzhou Alliance. According to legend, the Xianzhou Luofu was one of several ships built at the behest of an ancient emperor. Its original task was to search the ocean of stars for the medicine of immortality. Now it is described as a "one-way arrow" aimed at "the Lord of the Hunt's destined enemy." The post also details we the current state of the Xianzhou Luofu in Honkai Star Rail. When the player-controlled Trailblazer and their companions arrive, the ship is a cosmopolitan location, filled with people and artifacts of different cultures and planets. These are rooted in the ship's earlier role as a wandering hub of trade and commerce. Players will be able to watch starskiff traffic at the Central Starskiff Haven, or wander amongst the cargo containers in Cloudford. Some of the starskiffs plying the area were built at the shipyard in Stargazer Navalia, while official business is conducted at the Palace of Astrum, headquarters of the Luofu Sky-Faring Commission. Players who join the final closed beta for Honkai Star Rail will be able to explore the Xianzhou Luofu as one of the two main destinations available during the test. The other destination is Jarilo-VI, which was available during previous test periods and serves as the first stop in the main story. The story itself begins on the Herta space station, where players will be able to pick their Trailblazer's gender presentation and get the lowdown on Honkai Star Rail's campaign. Honkai Star Rail is in development for PC, iOS, and Android devices. The final closed beta test kicks off on February 10, 2023 for those who gain access. Siliconera Friday, January 27, 2023 9:00 AM Over the course of several years, Ryu ga Gotoku Studio mentioned that it had no intention of localizing Ryu ga Gotoku: Ishin (or now known as Like a Dragon: Ishin) or bringing it to North America and Europe. However, with the burgeoning popularity of the series, it seems like the studio has ultimately changed its mind. Now international audiences will get to experience one of the series' period pieces through the lens of the Yakuza series. Like a Dragon: Ishin is a memento of the past in more ways than one. It reminded me just what I loved about the Yakuza series, at least in terms of its gameplay and main cast. Switching through styles was something I sorely missed walking away from Yakuza 0 (and Yakuza Kiwami), and playing Ishin felt like riding a bike. You can freely swap between these four styles, which include using a katana, barefist brawling, using a gun, or using a gun and a katana. While the four styles naturally aren't comparable to what you had in Yakuza 0, there is enough variation there to feel rewarding. Especially as the game grades you on how well you perform in combat. It's more or less like a less intensive Devil May Cry style meter, as your cumulative rank is scored after every encounter which determines how much money and experience you get. Each of these styles plays fairly differently, with the gun and sword style more agile than just outright using my fists. That particular style was great against bosses, since you could practically evade and counter almost any attack. Whereas brawling with enemies that have spears and katanas wasn't particularly ideal. However, you can go about disposing of common thugs and bosses in any way you see fit. You're not constrained to any one thing, and the gameplay allows for you to tackle these encounters however you like. Especially since it also features the same sort of sphere system that previous, similar entries in the series had. Which means you'll be grinding out these spheres to level up the individual skill trees of these styles. Concerning the main cast, Like a Dragon: Ishin is a "re-telling" of a specific set of events that occurred in the 1800s in Japan. Obviously, the game takes its liberties, with series mainstays Kiryu, Majima, and crew showing up as an assortment of major historical figures. Kazuma Kiryu is, for all intents and purposes (bar some spoilers), Ryoma Sakamoto, a prominent historical figure of this specific time period. Saejima and Majima show up as well, along with Yakuza 3 antagonist Yoshitaka Mine appearing during a significant story cutscene that lays out why these characters have reconvened as other people in another place and time. It has nothing to do with time travel or anything like that. Ishin is fairly straightforward in its premise, and it's truly just a period piece with some creative liberties taken. That said, what I experienced of the localization was great. The overall feeling of these individual characters remain intact, despite them needing to be different people. Ryoma is still very much Kiryu in his disposition and manner of speech. Same goes for Majima and Saejima, both characters moving and speaking in their own distinct ways, which are well translated into text. There are also some new font choices that appear in Ishin that actually lend itself well to the game. This font is a bit more stylized, and looks more like traditional calligraphy as opposed to the blocky font most associate with the series. That font is still there, but this shift was nice, and honestly I'd like to see the series move towards another typeface. Sub Stories are also back, which is a given for the series, along with minigames that have a more distinct flavor suited to the time period Ishin takes place in. You can engage in drinking games and jankenpon with a courtesan, race chickens, and the buyo dancing to pass the time between major story missions. I personally enjoyed buyo dancing the most, since it's effectively a rhythm game that becomes more complex as you increase the difficulty, requiring you to use both sides of your controller to input commands. Going back to Like a Dragon: Ishin felt nostalgic for me, and not just because I had already played the game in 2016. It is because it called back to an experience I enjoyed with the series from the foundation up. It felt familiar in its controls, and almost like a welcome return to what I enjoyed. I have a feeling playing the full release of this remaster will largely feel the same way. Naturally, the game isn't without its flaws, but it'll be great to see what people think about it now that an official North American and European release is on the way. Like a Dragon Ishin will release for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on February 21, 2023. The post Preview: Like a Dragon: Ishin Marks a Return to the Past appeared first on Siliconera. |
