Disney Dreamlight Valley's favorite robot is getting a dapper upgrade

One of my favorite things about playing Disney Dreamlight Valley is the sheer amount of customization options the simulation game presents me with. If I want to have a bunch of pumpkin-themed furniture strewn around my Valley, I can. I love that Dreamlight Valley lets us express ourselves as individuals, and I also appreciate how that extends to other characters in-game, too. Octopath Traveler Million Sales

Octopath Traveler 2 sales passed over a million units, according to Square Enix. The news was announced on the official Twitter account. The tweet featured a commemorative illustration by artist Tatsuaki Urushihara featuring the characters Throne, Ochette, and Osvald.

However, Square Enix appeared to be pleased with Octopath Traveler 2's sales figures based on the tweet.

Octopath Traveler 2 released in February 2023. It released to rave reviews, with most reviewers praising it as an improvement over its predecessor. It is the direct sequel to 2018's Octopath Traveler, the first of many games in Square Enix's HD-2D style. Since the release of Octopath Traveler, other games to use the style have included Triangle Strategy and the remake of Live a Live. An upcoming remake of Dragon Quest III will also be using the visual style.

Octopath Traveler 2 is out now for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5 and PC.

Siren 20th anniversary

It's been twenty years since Japan Studio and Sony Computer Entertainment first dragged players into Hanuda. In commemoration, there will be two events this year to celebrate. "Siren in Namjatown Festival" will run from July 14, 2023 to September 3, 2023. The "Ikai-Iri Siren 20th Anniversary" event to celebrate the game will take place from August 3-5, 2023.

This will also be the first year that Sony officially involved itself in Ikai-Iri. Since its inception in 2019, Mitsuyoshi Shinoda, who portrays protagonist Kyoya Suda, has been the lead organizer.

He has posted a short announcement trailer for this year's Ikai-Iri on his official YouTube channel. You can watch it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHRkHKPbd4Q&

Ikai-Iri is an unofficial anniversary event for Siren, mostly taking place on Wikipedia. It starts from the night of July 29 (the "official" start of the timeline when Miyata visits Irazu Valley Church) to the early hours of August 6 (the end of the whole Forbidden Siren affair). The cast of the game have also participated through livestreams as well. The term "Ikai-Iri" means "entering the other world" and in the game, it happens when the eponymous "siren" rings out through Hanuda.

Siren came out for the PS2 in 2003. It is a cult classic for its memorable and deep story, as well as for its frustrating difficulty. More information on the two Siren commemoration events will come out in the near future.

Fractional Games' Amnesia: The Bunker is terrifying. There's no two ways about it--it's downright frightening. That's just the way it should be. This is a game designed to scare you, and it does a great job of that. It wastes very little time getting you there too. You're taught everything you need to know right out of the gate, then thrown directly into the thick of things.

Following a short tutorial-slash-story-lead-in area, you wake up in the titular bunker. It's dark, it's quiet, and you just know that something's not right. A little looking around will net you a flashlight to help you see, a revolver with not a whole lot of bullets, and the knowledge of just what you need to do to get out. But you also encounter a man-killing beast that seems to have made its home in the bunker. It takes your friend, and chances are you're next. The setup for just what brand of horror this game is going to bring is very quick and plenty creepy.

What really gives Amnesia: The Bunker its sense of creepiness, however, is the ambience. The game is in first-person perspective, so you can only see what's directly in front of you. It's also very dark outside of the little bit of light provided by your dynamo flashlight—the noise from which attracts the beast—and the difficult-to-keep-active generator, further limiting your vision. Even the setting itself, a World War I bunker, helps to create a sense of claustrophobia.

[caption id="attachment_966600" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Amnesia: The Bunker Flashlight Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

Then there's the audio, which is by and large where the game excels. There's little in the way of a soundtrack, which allows you to really focus on the noises both around you and coming from you. You'll hear machinery running, the beast moving and even breathing in the walls, and hungry rats feeding on bodies. Your footsteps echo down the hallways, charging the dynamo flashlight risks calling the beast to you, and even just moving objects around creates noise. Sometimes you'll accidentally step on a piece of wood or bump into a chair, and the sound of it will send your heart rate skyrocketing. At one point shortly after being left to my own devices, I remember hearing the beast snarl from very nearby. The sound of it, mixed with everything else going on around me, spooked me so bad that I immediately closed the game to catch my breath. It's just that well done. Sure, it's more or less the type of sound design you'd expect from a horror game, but there's definitely something to be said about really nailing down the basics and getting them really, really right. They're the basics for a reason, after all.

The gameplay is another element that doesn't try to do more than it has to. There are no fancy, over-the-top special mechanics, but there's no need for them because that's not the focus. You have controls for all your necessary functions, including a button dedicated to handling your flashlight and ways to peek around corners, and that's about it. You're given what you need and nothing more. Admittedly, though, I did find the controls to be a bit clunky and unwieldy. I get that they're supposed to make you feel immersed, and to an extent they do, but I don't know that I was ever able to open a door without a bit of a struggle. At times, they felt more frustrating than immersive.

[caption id="attachment_966602" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Amnesia: The Bunker Door Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

The story in Amnesia: The Bunker also leaves something to be desired. It's not particularly bad or anything, it just feels lacking. It's told almost entirely through things like notes and photos scattered around the bunker, and through them, you piece together how it got into its current state. Yes, it's a good and fitting way to tell the story here, but it could stand to be fleshed out a little more. It's not strictly necessary since the story is very much not a focal point, but given how much this game values immersion, having that extra depth would really help on that front.

[caption id="attachment_966604" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Amnesia: The Bunker Note Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

At its core, Amnesia: The Bunker is a game of trial and error. You will make mistakes, and you will be punished for doing so. But that's exactly the point, and it's part of what makes the game as good as it is. Rather than death itself, it's the anticipation of it that makes you scared. You know the beast is near, and you know it's coming, but you don't know exactly when. Inevitably, you'll make a mistake, which is when the fear really kicks in. You'll hear it. You'll feel it in your gut. But you use it as a learning experience. You change up your tactics, explore a little more, and use hope you do better on your next attempt. And all the while, you know that you are very much in danger.

Amnesia: The Bunker exists for one purpose and one purpose only: to terrify you. It isn't here to be groundbreaking, it isn't here to flip any scripts, it's just here to instill fear. And it does an incredible job of that. The stage is set from the second you're left to your own devices, and it only gets worse as you progress. It's the kind of game that makes you want to put on a pair of nice headphones and turn off the lights to immerse yourself, then make you regret that decision for all the right reasons. There's definitely room to improve on certain things, particularly when it comes to the story and controls, but it's a very solid game that any horror fan should play. If you're looking for something that'll scare you, you will absolutely find it here.

Amnesia: The Bunker is available for the PC.

fate/grand order ordeal call

The Japanese server for Fate/Grand Order will start the second half of Arc 2, Ordeal Call. The prologue of it came out on June 7, 2023 after maintenance for those who have finished the Lostbelt chapters. The first chapter for Ordeal Call, Imaginary Numbers Compass Inner World: Paper Moon, will launch some time in mid-June 2023. [Thanks, KaroshiMyriad!]

In the new Ordeal Call screen, players can explore Bleached Earth and raise your powers as Chaldea's Master. Instead of using AP to complete Free Quests, you will use Storm Pods and collect Stellar Sand. With Stellar Sand, you can unlock Signs in the Class Score to level up the corresponding Class. Lore-wise, all of this is to prepare for the upcoming trials and tribulations of the proper Ordeal Call story.

Lasengle first started teasing Ordeal Call several months ago as the second half of Main Record 2. The description for the prologue implies that this might really be the final chapter of the story. It focuses on all of the crimes that humanity committed during the Lostbelt arc. Not only must Chaldea prove its innocence, but it must also fix all of the various twisted histories.

Fate/Grand Order is readily available on mobile devices. Ordeal Call is only on the Japanese version of Fate/Grand Order. While the Japanese server started Ordeal Call, the global server just got Lostbelt 6.

Genshin Impact Collector's Chapter

HoYoVerse released a new trailer for Genshin Impact's upcoming Divine Ingenuity: Collector's Chapter event involving custom Domains. Narrated by the elusive Alice (Rachel Kimsey), mother of Klee, the trailer shows off how players can build their own Domains and fill them with monsters, traps and treasure. The event is scheduled to start on June 8, 2023.

To access the event, players must reach Adventurer Rank 20 and complete the Archon Quest Prologue: Act III "Song of the Dragon and Freedom." Players can take part in the event either by playing Preset Domains or building or playing through Custom Domains. There are five preset domains, with one unlocking each day for the first five days of the event. Completing the challenges within them will award you with Mora, Primogems, and various character enhancement materials like ores and skill books.

Custom Domains will allow you to create your own mini-dungeons by placing walls, traps and mechanisms down. The trailer shows examples of these being used to make tower-defence style gauntlets and platforming puzzles to solve while avoiding Hilichurl archers.

You can watch the trailer below:

The first event, Divine Ingenuity, ran in early 2022. Collector's Chapter follows on from that first event, but now can be found outside of Monstadt instead of Liyue. Other changes include a lowered Adventure Rank requirement  and the addition of co-op support. The most recent character to join the Genshin roster is Kirara, who can perform mulitple roles in a party and has easily available upgrade materials.

Genshin Impact is immediately available on PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices with the Divine Ingenuity: Collector's Chapter event scheduled to start on June 8, 2023.

Pokemon Scarlet Violet Chesnaught Iron Treads Great Tusk Tera Raids

Nintendo will re-run the Chesnaught, Great Tusk, and Iron Treads Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. They'll be available from June 16, 2023. They will then end on June 19, 2023. This will be one of the only chances for players to catch a Chesnaught in these two games. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

The Chesnaught raid will be a 7-star one, whereas Great Tusk and Iron Treads will be 5-star ones. Like over 7-star Tera Raids in the past, the Chesnaught will come with a Mightiest Mark. This particular Chesnaught will have a rock Tera Type.

In the past, when GameFreak initially ran these three Raids, a bug caused you to lose out on rewards and also crashed your game. This is why these three are re-running now.

Until Pokemon Home support for Scarlet and Violet appeared, Chesnaught was not a Pokemon you could naturally catch in Paldea. You had to get one through the Tera Raid, or trade with someone who did. However, both Great Tusk and Iron Treads are Pokemon that you can find in Area Zero. This is an endgame location though. As well, Great Tusk is a Scarlet exclusive and Iron Treads is a Violet one.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are readily available on the Nintendo Switch. The Chesnaught, Great Tusk, and Iron Treads Tera Raids will appear in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet from June 16-19, 2023.
