Grab an OG Steam Deck for an unmissable price following OLED reveal

The OG Steam Deck is going to face stiff competition from its shiny OLED sibling over the holiday season, but it wins in one department that is quite important to some, price.

While the OLED Steam Deck is very pretty, and may even replace the Steam Deck as one of the best PC gaming handhelds, it has to be said that at a $349 price point, the OG model is looking quite appealing right now.

New Steam Deck OLED is a super rare

The Steam Deck is about to be bigger and better than ever with Valve's release of a new OLED model, featuring improved battery life and more. If you're like me, then you take Steam's handheld gaming computer with you wherever you go, whether that be on a long-distance trip or a simple train ride. Due to such heavy usage, I've questioned how the Steam Deck can grow to create an even better gaming experience on the go, and Valve's new OLED model offers a colorful, rare answer.

When is the OLED Steam Deck release date? Well how about that, the OLED Steam Deck is the refresh we were all expecting, but at the same time never saw coming. With questions over the performance of the base Steam Deck starting to surface, given that it's not exactly and old piece of gear, we now know that Valve is answering every concern in this new model.

As one of the best PC gaming handhelds, the Steam Deck was always going to see a refresh or an entirely new model released at some point. Given how close we are to the holiday season, we didn't quite anticipate that it would launch before the end of November.

Diablo 4 - it's been out in the world for a whole five months now. I pinch myself every now and then to remind myself that the game I waited for since 2019 is here and playable whenever I so wish. Baldur's Gate 3 has been indicted with updates since its release, and while each new version of the game has improved upon the D&D inspired RPG's performance, things still aren't perfect in the world of Faerûn. Most notably, a version of the game for Xbox Series S players has been in works for a while, but a series of performance issues have stopped the game from making its way outside the realm of PC, and consoles like the PlayStation 5. However, it seems as though developers have found a way to optimize Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox console owners, which could also benefit PC players in the long run.

One of the most brutal strategy games ever made is yours for $6

Civilization 6 has the scale, the scope, the historical grandeur. Cities Skylines 2 meanwhile drills into the minutiae of urban management, the gruelling but rewarding day-to-day of making small and vital decisions. Frostpunk feels like a combination of both, taking the best aspects of the strategy genre and combining them with a unique and brutal vision of post-apocalyptic survival. In one sense, it's a large-scale strategy sim where you're responsible for an entire civilization, and guiding the history of your own society. In another, it's a microcosm of difficult choices, people management, and tough, by-the-minute pragmatism. With Frostpunk 2 on the way, if you want to play one of the best and most brutal strategy games ever, Frostpunk can now be yours for $6.

Best MW3 Striker loadout and class setup

What is the best MW3 Striker loadout? This lightweight SMG enables you to take advantage of the advanced movement, and with this Modern Warfare 3 Striker loadout, we look to reduce the recoil and extend the range of the gun so you can use it in nearly any combat scenario.

The Modern Warfare 3 release date is upon us, and we've already compiled a list of the MW3 maps and MW3 guns now that it's time to fight. You may be drawn to the harder-hitting guns like the best MW3 MTZ 556 loadout, but don't overlook these more mobile SMG options as they can rack up kills with ease.

Best MW3 Longbow loadout and class setup

What is the best MW3 Longbow loadout? For the best sniper rifle in Modern Warfare 2, you want something that you can use to take down enemies from across the map. While it might take some practice depending on your aim, this MW3 Longbow loadout can destroy enemies at massive range with just one chest or headshot and is up there with the best sniper rifles in the game.

With the Modern Warfare 3 release date finally on our step, we need to start thinking about our loadouts, and a sniper-SMG loadout is an absolute must-have in almost any of the MW3 game modes. This Modern Warfare 3 longbow loadout is the perfect accompaniment to a short-mid range Modern Warfare 3 SMG thanks to its ability to down opponents in one hit from an increased distance.

Best MW3 MTZ 762 loadout and class setup

What is the best MW3 MTZ 762 loadout? Battle rifles are an interesting class of weapon in Modern Warfare 3; their slow rate of fire when compared to the assault rifle class means that they can be an unforgiving weapon for the novice, but if you manage to find the weapon setup that fits for you, these guns can dominate.

The Modern Warfare 3 release date is finally here. One of the most devastating Modern Warfare 3 weapons we have used during our time with the game is the MTZ 762, and with this setup, we were able to take players down almost instantaneously - no matter the range.

Best MW3 Renetti loadout and class setup

What is the best MW3 Renetti loadout? The Renetti is a semi-automatic pistol - reasonably unremarkable, if slightly above average when compared to the other sidearms. In Modern Warfare 3 however, we can take this secondary weapon and convert it into a gun that can dominate all on its own.

With the Modern Warfare 3 release date upon us, it's time to nail down your starting weapon from the best MW3 guns. While the Renetti may not find a place as your primary weapon, it pairs wonderfully with longer-range options like the best MW3 MTZ 556 loadout - having a weapon to cover every potential engagement is key if you want to dominate matches.

Best MW3 MTZ Interceptor Loadout and class setup

What is the best MW3 MTZ Interceptor loadout? The MTZ Interceptor is a marksman rifle that excels in mid-to-long-range firefights, capable of eliminating enemies with a single shot. Our best MTZ Interceptor loadout concentrates on reducing gun kick, further increasing the effective range, and giving you a large magazine capacity.

The Modern Warfare 3 release date is here, and there's no better time to figure out what your starting MW3 gun will be. The marksman rifle class fills an interesting niche within the multiplayer realm; their slow rate of fire doesn't cope well with close-range encounters, but the staggering power of each semi-automatic shot can dominate the mid-range. Pair our Modern Warfare 3 MTZ Interceptor loadout with one of the best MW3 SMGs and you'll be unstoppable.

To quickly recap my Steam Deck OLED review, Valve's refreshed handheld is brilliant, serving up major improvements to screen quality and battery life while making loads of little quality-of-life tweaks. Its reveal was a surprise, mind – haven't Valve repeatedly said that there wouldn't be another new Steam Deck for ages?

Not quite. That warning was always qualified in that a more powerful Deck was still a ways off, and the Steam Deck OLED's performance improvements are both tiny and a likely incidental result of its efficiency savings. This very point was repeated to me in an interview with Valve designer Jay Shaw and software engineer Jeremy Selan, which also covered the Steam Deck family's future, its current struggles with intensive big-budget games, and why they want "more, more, more" rivals like the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go.

While the Steam Deck OLED is awash with upgrades over the original handheld PC, it's not a full replacement, and Valve still reckon that anyone wanting a proper Steam Deck 2 will be waiting a while.

I was told as much on the Steam Deck's first anniversary earlier this year, and according to Valve designer Jay Shaw and software engineer Jeremy Selan, that stance won't change once the Steam Deck OLED releases on November 16th. In an RPS interview, the full version of which is coming soon, the two developers explained why the real next generation of Steam Deck will take a few years – and why they decided against making the Steam Deck OLED's new processor more powerful as well.

I didn't know the Steam Deck OLED existed until last week, and yet it's essentially something I've wanted for nearly two years. As great a handheld gaming PC as the original Steam Deck is, its slightly bland IPS display and short battery life are some definite weak points – points to which newer, shinier rivals, such as the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, have been happy to apply pressure.

Valve are keen to stress that this OLED-equipped model represents an update, not a whole generational switcheroo. Yet there's much, much more behind that screen that just some different diodes. This is a lighter, brighter, longer-lasting, sometimes even faster-running take on the SteamOS handheld, and one that sneaks in some surprise upgrades as often as it addresses issues with the original Steam Deck. I love it.

Valve love their surprise hardware announcements, and there's just been a doozy in the Steam Deck OLED. It's a "definitive" refresh of the existing Steam Deck handheld PC that swaps the underwhelming IPS display for a brighter, more vibrant OLED panel, while making numerous battery life improvements – up to and including a new, more efficient AMD APU – that promise significantly more time away from the mains. It's not far off either: the Steam Deck OLED's release date is November 16th, just one week away.

For Vladimir Makarov, the babyfaced villain of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, trust and morale are irrelevant concepts. As he makes clear to his army of Russian ultranationalists, he is interested only in their quiet, unwavering loyalty. Evidently, Activision expects much the same from its army of COD fans. This latest Modern Warfare campaign follows disconcertedly close on the heels of 2022's entry because, as per Bloomberg, it began life as a mere expansion. Rather than allow a fallow year, Activision has upgraded that expansion's status to a premium release, and charged $69.99 for pre-orders - granting early access to the single-player campaign as an enticement.

Instead of Modern Warfare's usual lead studio, Infinity Ward, development duties have fallen to Sledgehammer, the outfit most recently responsible for 2021's unloved Vanguard. And in an industry where AAA FPS games now regularly take half a decade to make, this campaign has reportedly come together in less than two years. Reader: it shows.

When Kiryu's tale "ended" in Yakuza 6, it left me in absolute tatters. A faked death finally saw him freed from the shackles of the yakuza with one big catch: he couldn't ever see his family again. Since then, we've had the plucky Ichiban take on the mantle of Tojo Clan nastiness in Yakuza: Like A Dragon (7), with its sequel Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth (8) set to wash up on Hawaii's shores next year. What do we know about Infinite Wealth? Kiryu is set to return as a protagonist alongside Ichiban, with an all-new haircut. And more importantly, what has Like A Dragon Gaiden got to do with any of this? Well, it's a shorter stop-gap between the events of Yakuza 6 and Yakuza 8 that fills us in on what Kiryu's been up to this whole time.

But aside from moreish minigames and a fantastic Agent persona with web-slinging abilities, Kiryu's epilogue is a far cry from Yakuza's best stories. By no means is it bad, it just isn't the best introduction to the series for newcomers, and even longtime fans will struggle balancing his resurrection with its heavy feelings of repetition.

Minecraft Movie Filming Mortal Kombat 2 movies

The Minecraft adaptation and Mortal Kombat 2 movies will reportedly resume filming in 2024. This is thanks to studios and the SAG-AFTRA union reaching a tentative agreement, ending the strikes that halted production for the past three months. [Thanks, Deadline!]

Minecraft and Mortal Kombat 2 are part of a range of movies that are set to resume filming in 2024. Minecraft is an adaptation of Mojang's beloved crafting game. While plot details are unknown, it will be directed by Jared Hess and star Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows).

Mortal Kombat 2 is the sequel to 2021's Mortal Kombat reboot of the movie timeline. It will be directed by Simon McQuoid, just like the first movie. While initial reports suggesting filming will resume in 2024, producer Todd Garner confirmed that filming is set to resume before the end of 2023.

The news of these movies resuming production isn't the only recent adaptation news. Nintendo announced that an adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is the works, with producer Avi Arad working alongside Shigeru Miyamoto.

No release date has been confirmed for either Minecraft or Mortal Kombat 2. Minecraft is on the PS3, PS4, Vita, Switch, 3DS, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices. Mortal Kombat 1 is on the PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Interview: Hololive Vtuber Game Minato Aqua Talks About Her Visual Novel AQUARIUM

Not only did Hololive Vtuber Minato Aqua act as a producer on and star in her own visual novel named AQUARIUM, but the game ended up appearing worldwide. Now that the Hololive game is available globally on PCs, Siliconera spoke with the performer to learn more about what it was like to prepare a game and what she'd like to do next.

Jenni Lada: What was it like doing voice acting for a game where you'd be starring as "yourself?" What elements from your typical streams and life did you try and incorporate into your performance in AQUARIUM?

Minato Aqua: Voice acting and recording for games is completely different from streams and live performances, and it was extremely difficult to carefully read each word as dialogue. In normal broadcasts, I try to be honest in order to clearly convey my thoughts, but in games, I record with careful pronunciation and intonation in order to accurately convey the story and characters' lines.

You also served as a producer on AQUARIUM. What sorts of tasks did you undertake? Also, what did you learn from the experience?

Minato: My tasks were the main plot of the story, the concept, and overall worldview. The screenwriter wrote the story based on the rough outline that I had envisioned. Through my VTuber activities, I always try to be someone who can move people's emotions and feelings, so I hope that the game will move the people who play it and become a work that gives them energy and motivation.

I also suggested that I would like to have Captain (Houshou Marine) and (Shirakami) Fubuki-chan, and that I wanted Hanekoto-sensei for the key visuals and the designs.

Through producing, I was able to see up close how a game is made, and I hope that many people will see this game. I was once again moved by how a piece of work was completed with such strong energy. I was really happy that my fantasy turned into a reality though this game.

How did you help influence the game's design and direction?

Minato: In terms of game design, the designers and I put a lot of effort and detail into the design of the maid uniform. I am extremely satisfied that I was able to fully reflect my fetishism and obsession of cute things. In response to such broad and unreasonable requests such as "Please make sure this game is full of kawaii (cute) and all things cute!", the staff at ENTERGRAM (game company) delivered and made sure to make even the smallest details, including the game's UI cute.

How do you feel about it getting a worldwide release and heading to Steam? Will any additional preparation go into this release on your end?

Minato: I would like many people from around the world to play this game. It's a wonderful story full of cuteness, laughter, and tears, so please play until the end!

Image via Entergram

How would you feel about the prospect of potentially working on future games?

Minato: I still have a lot of imagination in my head, so if I have another chance, I would definitely like to do it! I'm looking forward to a game company / game developers to come forward that will make my wish come true!

Now that your first game is done and on Steam too, what would you like to do next?

Minato: I would be very happy if AQUARIUM continued as a sequel in some form! In order to release a sequel, it first has to sell many copies, so please support and buy this game!

AQUARIUM is available for the PC via Steam worldwide, and the Hololive game is on the PS4 and Switch in Japan.

Marathon Sony Live Services

Sony revealed that half of the company's upcoming live service games are delayed. Interim SIE President and Sony Group CFO Hiroki Totoki revealed the news during an earnings call following a portfolio review. [Thanks, VGC!]

Sony will now be launching six live service games by financial year 2025. This is a reduction from the twelve the company originally planned for the same period. The decision to do so followed a consultation with Destiny 2 developer Bungie, who reviewed the status of the current games. The six delayed games have been pushed back due to concerns over quality.

During the earnings call, Totoki confirmed that the company is still committed to a large library of live service games. He reiterated that the delayed games will remain part of a long term strategy at Sony to bring a range of live service titles to PlayStation. Bungie are a major part of this, with their experience with Destiny guiding much of the company's direction.

The company demonstrated this push towards live service games heavily in recent months. The May 2023 PlayStation Showcase already confirmed titles such as Helldivers 2, Fairgame$, Concord and a reboot of Bungie's sci-fi shooter Marathon as part of this. Multiplayer titles set in the Horizon and The Last of Us universes are also confirmed, along with an original IP from London Studio. It's unknown which of these projects are among the delayed games.

The Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn soundtrack features 38 tracks. These include 33 tracks compiled from the game's score, plus bonus live studio versions of five songs. These live tracks include "Flame of the New Dawn", "Follow Your Heart", "One Strike, One Beat", "Flame of Hope" and "Don't Look Back". These five special versions are also part of the Classic Characters Costume & Arranged BGM Pack DLC so you can hear them in-game, with that add-on also out now. Just like the base game, the soundtrack was produced by long-time series composer Motoi Sakuraba.

The Beyond the Dawn soundtrack is available to stream from multiple services. This include Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube Music and Deezer. It is also available to download from iTunes and other stores.

The soundtrack releases alongside the DLC itself and the final part of the prelude novel. In addition, Bandai Namco applied streaming restrictions to the expansion. This is to prevent streams and video content from spoiling the game's story beyond the "Mausoleum of the Jungle" portion.

Tales of Arise and its DLC Beyond the Dawn are available now for the PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

Zenless Zone Zero Combat Gameplay

HoYoVerse's latest Zenless Zone Zero gameplay announcement went over what to expect from combat and character movesets. Each person can use a Basic Attack, Special Attack, and Ultimate.

This means that the combat movesets for characters in Zenless Zone Zero could make the gameplay feel similar to Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd. The Basic Attack can hit once or chain into a combo. The Special Attack could be equivalent to a Genshin Impact Elemental Skill or Skill. Here, accruing Energy could also let you charge that up to an EX Special Attack. The Ultimate will be the equivalent of, say, an Elemental Burst or Ultimate. You can only use one when you build up the Decibel Rating by using Basic Attacks, Special Attacks, and other kinds of moves.

There are also two sorts of moves that all characters can use. One is the Dodge. Perfect Dodge and Dodge Counters are possible, with timing and using a Basic Attack triggering the Dodge Counter.

There are also Chain Attacks. These only happen if you hit an enemy enough to max out its Daze meter, stunning them. When you hit that stunned enemy with a heavy attack like a Special Attack, that will allow you to use additional characters in your party to hit and damage the enemy. You can also switch between allies, known in the game as Agents, at any time either by manually doing so or switching when another one is hit to essentially counter with an Assist Attack.

Zenless Zone Zero is in development for PCs, mobile devices, and consoles, and people can register now for the second closed beta test.

Genshin Impact Charlotte Trailer Shows How She Uses a Camera to Fight

There are Collected Miscellany videos going over new characters' movesets whenever they join Genshin Impact, and one trailer just appeared for Charlotte. It shows how the journalist uses her camera to attack enemies.

All of Charlotte's attacks use Monsieur Verite, her Kamera. The normal attacks deal Cryo DMG, with her charged and plunging ones dealing damage to multiple enemies instead of just one. The Elemental Skill involves an AOE Cryo DMG attack that marks enemies, though this can also be held to increase the viewfinder and hit more enemies. The Burst attack creates the Newsflash Field, which deals Cryo DMG to enemies and heals allies inside of it.

Due to being a journalist, she also has a different sort of passive ability. During it, using the Elemental Skill hold ability at certain times will allow her to take actual first-person photos, rather than attack.

Here's the full "Charlotte: It's a Scoop" Collected Miscellany Genshin Impact trailer, which is narrated by Dainsleif (Yuri Lowenthal) as usual.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTI0iWKfiJo&ab_channel=GenshinImpact

As a reminder, Charlotte is one of two new characters joining Genshin Impact in 4.2. The Hydro Archon Furina is also playable now. However, as Charlotte is a four-star, she's now a permanent part of the character pool. Furina will only appear when her banner does.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and FFVII Cloud Piano Playing Screenshots Compared

There are two new Final Fantasy VII screenshots, with one showing Cloud playing Tifa's piano in Rebirth and the other taken from that moment in FFVII. It also means a slight look at the area around the piano in Tifa's childhood home as well.

First, here's how it will look when Cloud plays the instrument in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. While the original FFVII involved holding certain buttons down to play a specific song, here we'll actually see onscreen indicators to help pin down the key and octave when taking part in the minigame.

Image via Square Enix
Image via Square Enix

Meanwhile, the FFVII screenshot shows how things were a little more vague. We had a better view of Tifa's home as a whole during moments when he'd play the piano. We also wouldn't see any chords or notes to give us hints.

Image via Square Enix
Image via Square Enix

For those who didn't play the original game, Cloud playing Tifa's piano in the original Final Fantasy VII is tied to a series of rewards, though Square Enix hasn't noted if this will return in FFVII Rebirth. In the original game, the key was to play it three times during the course of events when you'd see it in flashbacks and the present. If you did, you'd get Tifa's secret savings (a whole 1 gil), Elemental Materia, and finally her Final Heaven Limit Break.

Square Enix is regularly offering these updated looks at Final Fantasy VII Rebirth by comparing screenshots of it to FFVII. Earlier in November 2023, we saw Elena from the Turks and the Mog House.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024, with the platform exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024. FFVII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. FFVII Ever Crisis is on mobile devices, with a PC release planned.

G Gundam Master Asia figure

MegaHouse revealed a new version of the Gundam Guys Generation figure of Tohofuhai Master Asia from Mobile Fighter G Gundam. It will open the pre-orders on November 10, 2023, at 1 PM JST / November 9, 2023, at 11 PM ET. AmiAmi will also accept orders for the figure with international shipping support. The figure will have a price tag of 19,800 yen (~$131).

MegaHouse had previously released the 24 centimeters (~9.45 inches) tall figure with the same pose in June 2020. This new Art Graphics version will feature improved coloring. The set will come with a new pedestal modeled after the Mobile Trace System. It will also feature Master Asia and Domon Kasshu's catchphrases in Japanese that end with "Look! The East is burning red!"

Tohofuhai Master Asia is a key character in the 1994 anime Mobile Fighter G Gundam. The expert martial artist was also the teacher of the protagonist Domon Kasshu. However, Master Asia would frequently oppose Domon as the strongest rival and adversary with his Master Gundam.

MegaHouse has been producing multiple Gundam character figures in recent months. In October 2023, it revealed a 1/8 scale figure of Suletta Mercury, the protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. The company will release Suletta's figure in June 2024.

The Gundam Guys Generation Art Graphics figure of Tohofuhai Master Asia from Mobile Fighter G Gundam will be available in late March 2024.
