It's unsurprising given it came out 18 years ago, but exploration is more akin to a slideshow and dungeon-running to a well-rehearsed routine. But with an hour of Persona 3 Reload under my belt, P3's remake felt immediately familiar. It's absolutely built for a seamless transition for P5-likers and takes away some of P5 Royal's learnings, too. Unless something disastrous happens when Reload fully releases, I can't ever see myself returning to the original. |

Nintendo joined the list of Japanese companies that offer support following the Noto earthquake. It revealed on its Japanese corporate account on X that it is donating 50 million yen (~$341,380) to the Japanese Red Cross. In addition, the company also announced that it will offer free repairs of its products belonging to people who reside in the affected area, regardless of their warranty status for six months since the earthquake occurred on the 2024 New Year's Day.
All Nintendo Switch models released to date are eligible. Most units in the 3DS and 2DS families, except the original 3DS [CTR-001] and 3DS LL (XL) [SPR-001] models, are also available for repairs. And even though Nintendo is on the verge of running out of Wii U spare parts, the legacy console is still eligible as the company has yet to add it to the list of completely discontinued platforms as of mid-January 2024.
Many other Japanese companies related to gaming and other subcultures have also donated money for relief following the Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024. Square Enix, Capcom, and Cover of Hololive fame are some of the companies that have done so. The Pokemon Company, which is affiliated with Nintendo, had also donated 50 million yen on its own.
Nintendo will offer free repairs for its products with available spare parts affected by the Noto earthquake that arrive at its service centers by July 1, 2024.

Square Enix released brand new key art for FFVII Rebirth which highlights Yuffie and Cait Sith. The new key art replicates the iconic key art from the original Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation. The new key art of Yuffie shows her standing on the edge of a cliffside, looking out at the hills of Wutai, her home country where she serves as princess. The blog also released new screenshots showing off Yuffie and Cait Sith's combat in FFVII Rebirth. Yuffie's unique combat involves utilizing her ninjutsu, allowing her to utilize her enemy's weaknesses by hurling spells at them. She is also able to summon her Doppelgänger to attack her enemies. Cait Sith can use luck-based attacks to harm enemies and buff his fellow party members, and when Cait Sith is riding Moogle, he can use different melee attacks. Vtuber agency Hololive announced that it terminated its contract with the streamer Yozora Mel due to her leaking insider information to third parties. The streamer was part of Hololive's first Japanese generation and had been with the company for over five and a half years.
The statement from Hololive and its parent company Cover states that the contract was terminated on January 16, 2024 with agreement from the talent herself. The company plans to close her Youtube channel and membership by the end of February, 2024, when it is likely that her archived streams and music videos will become unavailable. This was the case with previous contract terminations involving Uruha Rushia and Hitomi Chris.
Her fellow first gen members Shirakami Fubuki, Akai Haato, Natsuiro Matsuri and Aki Rosenthal also released a Youtube video expressing their thoughts on the matter. Meanwhile, Mel herself released a comment on her Twitter account, wherein she expressed regret for her actions and apologized to her fans.

Fellow streamers Inugami Korone from Hololive Gamers and Moona Hoshinova from the Indonesian branch also announced that they would be taking a break from streaming due to illness and personal matters, respectively. Usada Pekora also shared concept art for an in-development figure made in collaboration with Fate/Grand Order, featuring her wearing the outfit of Mash Kyrielight.
The Hololive Vtuber agency terminated its contract with the talent Yozora Mel, and will be closing her channel and membership in late February, 2024. Until then, you can watch her archived streams here.

Almost two decades after the original release on the PlayStation 2 in 2006, players will get a chance to revisit Gekkoukan High School with the 2024 remake Persona 3 Reload. To learn more about what fans can expect from the HD reimagining, Siliconera spoke with producer Ryota Niitsuma and Director Takuya Yamaguchi to discuss their approach to remaking a classic JRPG while sticking faithfully to the game's original vision.
Brent Koepp: When did work on Persona 3 Reload begin?
Ryota Niitsuma, Takuya Yamaguchi: The development of Persona 3 Reload started at the end of 2019 and finished in 2023.
With Persona 3 Reload being a modern remake, how did the team determine what changes would be made to the story?
Niitsuma, Yamaguchi: In terms of story, we made sure to bring in the main story from the original Persona 3. So I think anybody who is worried that we have changed things around too much can feel safe to know that it's the full main story.
Which new gameplay feature in Persona 3 Reload were you most excited to implement, and what measures did you take to ensure it fit in with the existing content?
Niitsuma, Yamaguchi: So, for Persona 3 Reload, we were able to flesh out the game in many ways. First of all, in terms of story, we didn't change the main story, but we added in new side stories that will bring out the uniqueness of the game's characters and really highlight the interesting parts of the story. In terms of gameplay, we added a feature called Theurgia, which is kind of like a special powerful technique for each character that they all have. And this makes battles feel completely new and extra fun. When making Persona 3 Reload, we used all the stuff we picked up from previous Persona games. For example, we put in something very similar to the Baton System from Persona 5 called the Shift System. So, in the end, we kind of added a lot from the different Persona games.
How much can fans expect Persona 5 to have influenced Persona 3 Reload?
Niitsuma, Yamaguchi: So with Persona 3 Reload, in a lot of ways we've basically taken all the know-how and things we learned since Persona 5. And we put those experiences into Reload. So, in that sense, we added a lot of input from Persona 5 when creating the remake.
Which Persona 3 character did you enjoy working on the most in Reload?
Niitsuma: For me, it's really hard to pick because all the characters are so much fun to work on. They are all just really awesome. I think if I had to choose, it would be Koromaru the dog. I mean, it was a lot of fun to work on him, and I have a dog at home, too. I was able to use that experience of having a dog and talking to it, or being like a "dog would act this way or do this certain thing!" So, using that experience was great.
What was is it like working with Lotus Juice again to revisit his work on Persona 3?
Niitsuma, Yamaguchi: For me, Lotus Juice is a really important part of the Persona series as a whole. And so I think having him in Persona 3 Reload was important. It was really great having the chance to work with him.
Persona 3 Reload is a massive remake with many new features. What went behind the decision to not bring back Fem MC from the Persona 3 FES?
Niitsuma, Yamaguchi: So this is a question we've thought about a lot. And in the end, we kind of decided that the best thing we could do was to put all our efforts into making as perfect as we can a remake of the original game.
Persona 3 Reload will be released on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S starting February 2, 2024.
