If Slay the Spire was a Smite style MOBA, it'd be this new Steam game

As someone who has whiled away many hours in Iron Forge's classic MOBA Smite, Smite 2 certainly has my attention. Having come out swinging earlier this year, we haven't heard too much since - understandable, the game is very much still in its pre-alpha form. So, imagine my face when I discovered Vellum, a new roguelike multiplayer that channels the third-person perspective of Smite, and the upgrade pathways of Slay the Spire. Safe to say the wait for Smite 2 doesn't feel as long anymore.

     Best office chairs in 2024

The best office chairs can save your posture and make life more comfortable when you're working or playing. If you sit down for a larger part of the day and need the right chair to help your health, we're trying and testing the myriad options to help you find the right one.

The best gaming chairs often have a very specific look, so this list is home to some more subtle designs. We chose the best office chairs in this guide for their comfort levels, support, and design. The Herman Miller Embody is undoubtedly the best premium choice, thanks to the company's years of research. But affordable options like the Vertagear PL1000 will serve your spine well, too.

When choosing the best office chair for gaming, work out what your usage is in terms of hours, how much you want to spend, and your physical dimensions (there's no benefit to being too small or big in an office chair). Then, take a seat and look through these options...

Command and Conquer Remastered dev has a new RTS game, playable now

I'm not normally given easily to nostalgia, and I'm unlikely to be seduced by a game just because it looks and sounds like something I played back in the day. But my word, do I long for the return of classic Command and Conquer. The GDI versus NOD. Live-action cutscenes. That Frank Klepacki score. Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn are two of the best, if not the best, RTS games of all time, made only better by the fantastic C and C Remastered back in 2020. Command and Conquer might be in hibernation for now, but a new RTS, available to play right this second thanks to a demo at Steam Next Fest, feels like a perfect replacement. Created by the team responsible for Command and Conquer Remastered, as well as Star Wars: Empire at War, this is the retro real-time strategy game we all need.

Crucial is reportedly cooking up the fastest ever PC SSD

Crucial has a super-fast SSD in the works that will offer the fastest speeds we've ever seen from an M.2 drive, according to the latest leak.      MSI ups the ante on Asus with its OLED gaming monitor offering

Only yesterday Asus updated its warranty T&Cs to include two years of cover for OLED gaming monitor burn-in, having previously not included this sort of cover on its displays. Well, now MSI has seen that move and raised Asus a whole extra year, slapping a three-year burn-in cover warranty on its latest OLED displays.

Despite having some of the characteristics that would make them worthy of listings on our best gaming monitor guide, OLED gaming monitors have long had (and still have) one glaring problem, which is that they can suffer from burn-in. As such, both Asus and MSI joining the likes of LG and Samsung in offering two or three years of cover against this issue is a very welcome development.

League of Legends Mythic shop February – what's on sale?

What's on sale in the League of Legends Mythic shop? New skins for LoL are released all the time, with a new event arriving on the Rift every few weeks, but what happens if you missed the boat with that awesome KD/A Evelynn skin, or if you've seen a Hextech skin in a game of Summoner's and want to bag it for yourself?

The Mythic shop is a special storefront in the free PC game that stocks rare skins, wards, chromas, and essence. These cosmetic items aren't available for real-world money, either, as they can only be purchased with Mythic Essence, so no more worrying about how much you've spent in League of Legends. The stock held in this store is rotated regularly, with some skins becoming unavailable for months, so it's best to keep up to date on what's on sale in the League of Legends Mythic store.

Which League of Legends skins are currently on sale?

Which League of Legends skins are currently on sale in the store? LoL is a free-to-play game in the truest sense - you can enjoy everything the MOBA has to offer for absolutely nothing. Now if you were to ask a seasoned League player if that were true, they'd probably have to stifle a few tears as they check how much their bank account has suffered buying skins since they started battling on the Rift.

Riot rotates a series of skins in the store, with the savviest of us holding out until the cosmetic they want ends up in the discount section store or even the League of Legends Mythic shop. The shiny new cosmetics are only available briefly, so make sure you act fast if you want to snag the new hotness. Here is every League of Legends skin on sale right now if you want to know what's in the store without booting up the client.

Rockstar ditches Windows 7 and 8, forces players to update OS

Windows 10 and 11 are fast becoming the only operating systems that support gaming, and Rockstar is the latest developer to drop support for older versions. This has all come about because Microsoft has stopped providing security updates for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, leaving them vulnerable and open to attacks.

Steam recently pulled support for every Windows OS below 10, meaning some of the best PC games can now only be played on the most recent Microsoft operating systems. This move appears to be the catalyst for many other game publishers, such as Rockstar, also ending support.

A new Elden Ring game is coming, and it's not Shadow of the Erdtree

The Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, may well be getting closer to launch - or at least a reveal - based on From Software's recent round of Steam updates. But now, it seems like a totally new Elden Ring game, separate from anything announced or revealed so far, is also in the works. Sources at Tencent say the publisher and developer has acquired the rights to create an Elden Ring game and dedicated a small team to develop a prototype. Supposedly modeled after HoYoverse hit Genshin Impact, the new Elden Ring sounds very different to the 2022 original. Nevertheless, it seems possible that the series has scope to grow beyond Shadow of the Erdtree.

Cities Skylines 2 missed expectations and must do better, Paradox says

Cities Skylines 2 has faced a difficult first six months. At launch, the city building sequel was criticized owing to a range of performance issues, particularly related to long loading times, stuttering, and texture detail. Since then, developer Colossal Order has worked tirelessly to deliver patches that not only remedy technical troubles, but also adjust various aspects of CS2's gameplay and simulation. Compared to the original Cities Skylines, the Cities Skylines 2 Steam player count is low - as of this writing, CS1 has more than 8,000 active players, while the sequel has 4,700. With official modding tools expected in the near future, there is a way back for Cities Skylines 2. But Paradox, the publisher behind CS2, and developer of Stellaris and Crusader Kings, says the game "can and must do better."

     CS2 skins explained

How do CS2 skins work? CS2 skins alter the appearance of weapons, gloves, and knives, giving players the chance to show off their library of digital assets. Returning Counter-Strike players were worried that their CSGO skins weren't going to transfer over to CS2, but Valve quelled any fears when it officially announced the game in March 2023.

Owning Counter-Strike 2 skins isn't just about making a fashion statement. It's about putting your mark on your implements of death. It's about showing off your expertise, and, occasionally, selling on for a decent profit - maybe just wait for the skin prices to calm down a little before you decide on investing too much. Now that the Counter-Strike 2 release date is finally here, this is everything you need to know about CS2 skins before you jump in.

In 2021 I went through a bit of a rally phase with WRC 9, as I discovered the joys of watching people play rally games beautifully. Action-RPG colossus Elden Ring is reportedly getting a free-to-play mobile adaptation with in-app purchases, which takes inspiration from miHoYo's Genshin Impact. It's being published by Tencent, who apparently acquired the licensing rights to Elden Ring back in 2022 and put a few dozen people to work on a prototype, even as the company acquired a 16% stake in Elden Ring developer From Software.

All that's according to Reuters, who cite three sources "familiar with the matter". I realise that "free-to-play mobile version of Elden Ring with in-app purchases" is a phrase tailormade to give certain players hives and/or cause the speaker to be struck by lightning, but much as I can't help looking over cliff edges, I do find the idea fascinating.
