Kotaku Wednesday, February 14, 2024 12:30 PM Overwatch 2's ninth season has begun, and while most players are talking about the reworks and sweeping changes Blizzard has made, there's a small subset of people whose most anticipated part of the seasonal drop is a heart. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 14, 2024 12:35 PM AMD is set to bring back its AMD Anti-Lag+ feature, three months after it had to pull the plug on the technology following many users reports of the feature triggering bans in online games. The first version of AMD Anti-Lag+ was an ambitious attempt by the company to introduce a driver-level means by which to have games be able to reduce input lag through some clever CPU/GPU optimizations. Unfortunately, anti-cheat apps used by some of the most popular online games flagged the software as a cheat, resulting in users getting banned. As such, AMD pulled the plug on the feature, removing it completely while it worked on a means to fix the issue. All has been quiet in the three months since that happened but today AMD's chief architect of gaming solutions & marketing, Frank Azor, confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that "yes, [the feature was] coming soon." PCGamesN Wednesday, February 14, 2024 12:25 PM Modern racing games can be a bit overstuffed. Series like Forza Motorsport, Need for Speed, and Project Cars have tended toward offering players open-world activities and in-depth customization, extending the fantasy of digital racing in ways that alienate the kind of person who just prefers to hop into a level and smash into things at dangerously high speeds. Fortunately for those of us who fall into the latter category, older racing games still exist - and a great one from 2004, FlatOut, can be grabbed for free right now. These snapshots are the very first iteration of Minecraft updates, and are a way for Mojang to test out bug fixes, technical changes, and new mechanics before officially rolling them out. Anyone with the Java edition of the creative game can try these features without any risk to your current world, so let's find out how to be the first to try the next big Minecraft update. During Minecraft Live each year, the next big Minecraft update is revealed to the community. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 14, 2024 9:22 AM When it comes to choosing the best CPU cooler, there's a diverse range of options that cater to both casual users and PC gaming enthusiasts. For most home users, the key criteria of a good CPU cooler are that it should keep your CPU cool while remaining quiet, though some users may want all-out cooling performance over noise suppression or need a super low-profile cooler to fit in a tiny PC. Whatever your needs, we've got a CPU cooler for you. The world of gaming PC CPU coolers may seem daunting, but fear not! We've assembled a list of the best CPU coolers from reliable brands like Noctua, Cooler Master, Be quiet!, MSI, and NZXT. We've crafted a dedicated guide just for the best AIO cooler options, and if you're wondering how to overclock your CPU, we can help with that too. When picking a CPU cooler, ask yourself what your budget is, what space your case has, whether you care about making a fancy-looking interior to your case, and how much you care about noise. In general, quality air coolers are the best bet for most systems, as they can be quite cheap while being quiet. However, they can be big, bulky, and difficult to install. Instead, for a cleaner-looking build and an easier installation, all-in-one (AIO) water coolers are your best bet, but they can be a touch noisier and more costly too. In my head I might have grown attached to a particular infantry army or tank battalion, but as far as the game was concerned, the only thing that mattered was combat, and they were all disposable. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, February 14, 2024 12:06 PM We've eschewed any Valentine's theming this year, but Edwin put this in our news queue last night as a sort of dare for our evening shift, and let the record show I am less of a coward than Graham Smith. The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, a visual novel Tarot-themed card game from perennial (perhaps perineal, in this case) favourites Deconstructeam, was praised by Edwin in his review, and I was going to use the same strapline for this news post had he not got there first. Because now, in time for the season of romance, they've teamed up with sex toy purveyors Uberrime to create a frankly prohibitively massive dildo as an official tie-in for the game, which can be won in a free competition by three lucky people living in either the UK, EU, US or Canada (as in, they each win their own dildo; they don't have to time share). I mean I say "prohibitively", but I don't know your life. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, February 14, 2024 11:38 AM A number of Ubisoft France employees are on strike today after the collapse of union negotiations with Ubisoft management, who have reportedly proposed a budget for wages "that would be lower than inflation for the second year in a row". The strikers are calling it a "badly balanced rewards system". Cheeky devils! The news comes care of a post from Le Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo, who have evidently been doing their homework on videogame humour. That research has paid off, for here I am writing about the strikes, though I think I probably would have written about them anyway. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, February 14, 2024 11:30 AM When it comes to co-op shooters and most other multiplayer games, it's often the case that friendly fire is switched off by default or there are endless systems in place to make it a punishable offence. In Helldivers 2 it isn't actively encouraged, nor is it punished. Accidentally vaporising your teammate with an air strike is all a part of the campaign for democracy and freedom, a hilarious byproduct of human error. I gushed about it in my review, and cheery RPS fanzine PC Gamer wrote up a quick piece on the specific ways it eeks out silliness. But comedy isn't just accidental in Helldivers 2, oh no. I think it encourages playground behaviour of the worst order: smacking your mates into things. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, February 14, 2024 10:45 AM Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a JRPG that is ticking off many of the action RPG tropes. It would be in danger of becoming workmanlike, such are the number of things you can tick off on your fingers like a plumber ordering parts: boss fights against improbably huge glowing monsters, an evil god, catboys, numbers popping off enemies, women who appreciate the combat applications of a thigh-high split skirt, anachronistic sunglasses, horned giants carrying halberds of the same approximate size as a caravan. In practice, though, you sort of can't be mad at Granblue Fantasy: Relink. It's built around a layered combat system that seems impenetrable if you don't take some time to understand it. But really, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is just a game so committed to the rule of cool that the entire setting is physically impossible, and every battle is a disorientating Panic! At The Firework Factory that flirts with being a photosensitivity nightmare. I'm not selling it as such, but it's actually charming. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, February 14, 2024 8:22 AM The Silent Hill 2 remake's State of Play trailer doesn't give a full and proper representation of the game, Bloober Team's president Piotr Babieno has observed in an apparent swipe at publisher Konami, who Babieno portrays as responsible for the upcoming horror game's marketing. If you missed it, the trailer in question focuses on the "modernised" combat. It shows alleged "everyman" protagonist James Sunderland getting all Gears of Warry with some maggoty marionettes and rancid demon nurses. |

Ordered by the number of unique players that spent time with them during Next Fest proper (meaning all those early demo plays from earlier in the month haven't been counted), the most popular game of the lot was one that was only formally announced right at the end of January. People playing Granblue Fantasy: Relink multiplayer on the PS4 or PS5 may notice improved matchmaking starting today or find they will see a higher drop rate when breaking foe parts thanks to a patch. The 1.0.4 update is now live and, while small, fixes two major issues people may have experienced when trying to play alone or with others.
After the game's launch, there were reports of people on the PS4 or PS5 not getting foe parts after breaking certain areas on enemies. For example, a friend of mine noticed an issue trying to get Vitality Hoof from Furycane when fighting it. Downloading and applying the Granblue Fantasy: Relink patch should fix the drop rate going forward.
As for Granblue Fantasy: Relink matchmaking, it only applies to a specific multiplayer situation. If someone has Power Adjustment on, they should see a different in ensuing match ups and fights. This change doesn't have any kind of effect on general matchmaking outside of that particular situation.
Granblue Fantasy Relink is now available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. People can now download the 1.0.4 update for the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. The next PC patch will appear on February 16, 2024.

Toby Fox released a Valentine's Day Deltarune and Undertale newsletter that offered an update on Chapter 3 of the new game. A brief update on Chapters 4 and 5 also appeared, and there is a new producer involved in development.
Apparently, the team is now working on the Japanese localization before finishing up the project. This is one of the final steps before that portion of the game is done.
As for Deltarune Chapter 4 and 5, the update mentioned progress on both as well. The fourth part is now the primary focus, and there is an unnamed internal deadline for that. This portion of the announcement also mentioned the new producer, though the member of the team wasn't named.
Here's the full update from the newsletter:
The last major update on the game appeared back in October 2023. That announcement noted that Deltarune Chapter 3 of the game will be sold alongside Chapter 4.
Deltarune Chapters 3, 4, and 5 are in development for PCs and other platforms. People can sign up for the official mailing list on the website for additional updates.

There's another new Princess Peach: Showtime trailer, and this video introduces four different powers and roles for her, as the game will include dashing thief, figure skater, mermaid, and mighty forms of the character. Each one, as usual, has its own specialties.
Things begin with Figure Skater Peach. When playing as her, people will glide over icy platforms and rinks and attack enemies. The Dashing Thief Peach uses a grappling hook to maneuver. Meanwhile, Mermaid Peach sings to gather fish in that portion of the clip. Finally, Mighty Peach is a super hero. That segment shows her fighting enemies on foot as well as flying through the sky to tackle additional foes.
Here's the Princess Peach: Showtime trailer going over the figure skater, dashing thief, mermaid, and mighty roles.
Most of the new trailer tend to focus on her different roles and showing how they'll affect her abilities in the game. For example, the January 2023 video involved looks at six other roles Peach can take. It looked at her cowgirl, detective, kung fu, ninja, patissiere, and sword fighter classes. The two new abilities that debuted in that trailer were cowgirl and ninja.
Princess Peach: Showtime will launch on March 22, 2024 worldwide. Pre-orders are open. There will also be a new pair of Joy-Con controllers out that day that are a shade of pink.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the FFVII remake demo update will add new content and a performance update. He shared the official announcement on social media, mentioning this is an issue that will be remedied in both the base game and trial.
Here's Hamaguchi's statement, which he made when sharing the announcement from Square Enix. The patch for the demo was confirmed both on the English and Japanese accounts.
When playing FFVII Rebirth, there are two modes you can choose between. One prioritizes graphics, while the other focuses on the game's performance and frame rate. People who were playing through the trial once it released back on February 6, 2024 pointed to visual issues when the Performance option was selected. This announcement confirms that the update appearing on February 21, 2024 that adds a Junon segment to the FFVII Rebirth demo will also improve the visuals in Performance mode.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024. The demo will update with Junon content on February 21, 2024. The PS5 exclusivity arrangement expires on May 29, 2024. FFVII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and FFVII Ever Crisis is available on the PC and mobile devices.

HoYoVerse uploaded three pieces of artwork to its Genshin Impact social media account to celebrate Valentine's Day 2024, and this year Jeht, a notable NPC, appears among the characters.
This year's characters are Navia, Lynette, and Jeht. With the exception of Jeht, both Navia and Lynette are newer characters who debuted in 2023. All of the posts have an accompanying blurb that's written as if the character is talking to you. Navia gives you macarons, Lynette gives you a box of Cafe Lutece's new stacks, and Jeht gives you a little wrapped trinket.
You can check out all of the Valentine's Day 2024 for Genshin Impact below:
Jeht's inclusion in this year's batch of Valentine's Day is notable because this is the first time that a non-playable character has shown up. She was an NPC who showed up in the Golden Slumber World Quest series from Sumeru. Many fans on social media have talked about how much the writing in this series of quests, as well as how much they liked Jeht and her interactions with the Traveler. Time will tell if this means HoYoVerse is considering a playable version of Jeht or if this is a nod at her popularity.
As an aside, HoYoVerse has also released artwork of Beidou. However, this is because it's Beidou's birthday rather than because she's also giving you a Valentine's Day gift. If one wishes, they can pretend that Beidou is giving them a treasure map for Valentine's though.
Genshin Impact is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.

The creator of the classic JRPG series Suikoden and Eiyuden Chronicle, Yoshitaka Murayama died. The announcemet comes via a statement by Rabbit and Bear Studio, which is currently developing Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.
Murayama, who originally created Suikoden while working at Konami, passed away on February 6, 2024 due to complications from an illness. At the time, he was working as a scenario writer for Rabbit and Bear Studios to develop Suikoden spiritual successor Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. That is set to release in April 2024.
The statement was signed by fellow designers Junichi Murakami and Osamu Komuta, as well as Junko Kawano. Kawano worked with Murayama on the original Suikoden. His colleagues expressed regret that he would not get to see the fan reaction to Eiyuden Chronicle, but vowed to press on with development nonetheless.
Here is the full statement shared on the Rabbit and Bear website:
Back in December, 2023, Rabbit and Bear Studios announced in a Steam development log that Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes had entered the bug-fixing stage of development ahead of its release on April 23, 2024. A short while before that, the studio also released 6 minute long trailer highlighting the features of the game, including combat systems and some of the characters.
Yoshitaka Murayama, creator of Suikoden and Eiyuden Chronicle series, died on February 6, 2024. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will release on April 23, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

HoYoVerse posted its first batch of pictures for Valentine's Day on the Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero social media accounts. This is the first year since the game launched and the other was announced that we're seeing Valentine's Day art for them.
This year, the Honkai: Star Rail characters that we receive gifts from are Sparkle, Kafka, and Ruan Mei. While the Genshin Impact Valentine's Day posts read like the characters are directly talking to the player as they hand out their gifts, the Honkai: Star Rail ones are descriptions in third-person. Kafka gives an exquisitely-wrapped box of handmade chocolates. Meanwhile, Ruan Mei has made some experimental pastries and Sparkle has a bag of varied chocolates.
Here are the Valentine's Day 2024 posts for Honkai: Star Rail:
While Kafka has been around the game since launch, serving as the very first character you can control, Ruan Mei and Sparkle are relatively new characters. Sparkle is not even playable as of the time of writing, yet she appeared in official seasonal art ahead of more familiar characters like Himeko or Serval. Granted, when Genshin Impact first started releasing Valentine's Day art in 2021, the characters HoYoVerse chose were Keqing and Ganyu (with Ganyu's playable debut being January 2021). Sparkle's inclusion could also be a way to hype her up, as her banner will be in the second phase of the current Version 2.0 patch.
Meanwhile, here is the Zenless Zone Zero Valentine's Day art. It shows Victoria Housekeeping characters Rina, Corin, and Ellen.
Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Zenless Zone Zero is expected to come to the PS5, PC, and mobile devices in 2024.

NIS America announced that it and Nihon Falcom will release Ys X: Nordics on the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC in English and French in Fall 2024. This comes after its September 2023 launch in Japan on consoles and Clouded Leopard announced it'd bring the Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese PC version to Steam on March 14, 2024.
Depending on the platform you pick, different text options will be available. Both consoles and PCs will have English and French, as well as English and Japanese voice acting. However, only Japanese text will be available as an option for the PC version. The PC version will also be available via three outlets at launch, as NISA confirmed Epic Games Store, GOG, and Steam will all offer it.
Once again, players will journey alongside Adol Christin. This time, there are more seafaring elements. This is partially because Adol and Karja, a pirate, are stuck together. (Don't worry, as Dogi will be back as well.)
There are also a number of initial screenshots showing what people can expect from the upcoming release. Here is the first patch NIS America shared with us.
Ys X: Nordics will come to the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC in English and French worldwide in Fall 2024. The official website is now open.

Director Hideaki Itsuno confirmed through a post on his social media that Dragon's Dogma 2 will support variable framerate at launch. Itsuno hasn't specified which framerate modes the game will offer or how it will work on different platforms yet.
The post shared by Itsuno included an English and Japanese caption. While the English caption mentions "uncapped framerate," the Japanese caption specifies that the game will support variable framerates.
At the time of writing, it is unknown how Dragon's Dogma 2 will handle the variable framerate options. One possibility is that the game will include different modes that prioritize higher framerates and higher resolutions in PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles, similar to other recent RE Engine games like the Resident Evil 4 remake. Meanwhile, the PC version should be more flexible in how to customize the framerate options.
You can check out the original post by Director Hideaki Itsuno here:
During the January 2024 Sony State of Play, Capcom revealed new details about Dragon's Dogma 2, like a new Warfarer vocation that can use all weapon types and abilities from other Vocations, as well as information on the Dragonsplague and Vocational maisters.
Dragon's Dogma 2 will come out for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam on March 22, 2024.

Nintendo decided to remind people the Mario vs Donkey Kong games didn't always focus on puzzles with the Minis with a Switch port, and that's great! It's was a solid game before and, now that it's back on a modern console with a few quality of life changes and additions, it's once again a perfectly fine and enjoyable puzzle platformer.
Think of Mario vs Donkey Kong as an origin story for the Minis we see in subsequent installments. DK saw a commercial for cute Mario toys. He went to go buy some. They were sold out. So, like any reasonable individual subject to the supply and demand nature of corporate greed designed to incentivize splurging, he heads to the factory and steals all of the Minis. Mario happens to be walking past when this happens and assists the Toads by going to various worlds to reclaim the stolen figures and face DK.
Each world progresses in a similar way. There are six levels. Each one has a first half that involves finding a key and getting it to a door, which is a puzzle platformer challenge. Once you do, you reach a second half of a level that has one Mini at the end. After collecting all six Minis, you go through a stage where you have to guide the six through obstacles and hazards by leading them as Mario, getting blocks that spell out "TOY" so they can eventually be returned to the box. The number of Minis you save this way become Mario's health points for the ensuing fight against DK in the final stage of each world. As with the original, finishing all the worlds means you unlock more difficult plus versions that involve leading a Mini Mario.
So really, some of the elements from the other Minis entries like Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis are here. You are just dealing with a time limit, limited health if you aren't playing on the easier Casual difficulty that eliminates the health and timer limitations. Rather than typical Super Mario platformers, a big part involves knowing how to reach additional platforms, determining when Mario should do a handstand to gain access to his higher jump or prevent projectile damage, working out when switches should be flipped, and managing the movement of the key across levels. That final one can be especially critical, as you have 15 second when you aren't holding it before it returns to its original placement and you often need to toss it into certain places and retrieve it later to progress.
As far as being a remake, a lot of what's here in Mario vs Donkey Kong is designed to make it feel more comfortable on the Switch. The co-operative multiplayer feels like a nod to younger or newer players who might join with an older or more experienced one, given the base levels aren't all that difficult. The Casual mode, likewise, feels like a response to that. Plus, it of course looks a little spiffier than it did before.
I do appreciate that some of it does feel geared toward making the experience a little more challenging as well. The new Merry Mini-Land and Slippery Summit worlds are both great. So much so that it almost feels out of place when you consider how much fun some of the new wind-blowing-flower and ice-floor mechanics are compared to the other stages. This was most evident with Merry Mini-Land, since it comes in after two worlds that are much less usual and don't really stand out as much in terms of difficulty, while Slipper Summit is placed in such a way that the new mechanics and difficulty feel more appropriate when sandwiched in later. The new Time Attack feels like a nod to folks who know the game, get how to handle levels, and want to test themselves. Combine all this with the Expert levels, and it's solid.
It's also nice to see some quality of life changes too. While it was always just me playing the game, knowing there are multiple save files in case I needed to be in a situation where I'd have to share was great. It's also much easier to scroll around and get a better view of the level. This is especially helpful once you get past the first two worlds, given the sizes of the stages. I also must admit that I really did appreciate the Casual Mode once I turned it on to test it. It helped me better appreciate and investigate the design of the new worlds.
Though while what is here is great, I do have to admit it sometimes felt a bit like the remake, as a whole, was unnecessary. The new worlds are well done and add the the experience for sure. I really appreciated Time Attack! But if someone does have the original Game Boy Advance game, I don't really see this as being the remake they need to play. Especially after the rather excellent Another Code: Recollection collection. As I went through it, it felt like something of a placeholder while waiting for the next big Switch game.
I like Mario vs Donkey Kong on the Switch a lot, mainly because I liked it a lot on the Game Boy Advance. This remake isn't all that dissimilar, and that's why I think it is so much fun. However, even with the new worlds and multiplayer option, it doesn't feel all that different. If you missed it before and have never played it, then it is absolutely worth picking up. However, it is probably okay to start saving up for whatever Nintendo has planned next if you owned the original.
Mario vs Donkey Kong will come to the Nintendo Switch on February 16, 2024.

Nijisanji EN Vtuber Scarle Yonaguni seems to have missed two streams as of February 13, 2024. One was apparently a member's stream, and the other was a public 8pm PT/11pm ET "Niji Pepe Adventures" stream on February 13, 2024. Update: The "Niji Pepe Adventures" stream was rescheduled for 10pm PT/1am ET on February 15, 2024.

The chat is disabled for not only this stream, but also her upcoming February 17, 2024 Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow watch along and Black Light Letter to Self August 23, 2024 one.
This comes after Scarle Yonaguni was one of the few Nijisanji EN Vtubers to not share recent messages from Anycolor and fellow performers Elira Pendora, Ike Eveland, and Vox Akuma about the termination of Selen Tatsuki and events thereafter. Kyo Kaneko, who graduates on February 17, 2024, and Kotoka Torahime also did not.
Here's Scarle's most recent schedule, which she shared on February 10, 2024. Her next scheduled stream is supposed to be on February 14, 2024 at 10pm PT/1am ET and involve chocolate ramen.
There was no update from the Nijisanji Vtuber on her social media account initially. Her last activity was a February 12, 2024 reply to Larian Studios showing updated Baldur's Gate 3 kissing from the game's next patch.
However, Scarle updated on February 14, 2024 with a pinned message in the new rescheduled stream's chat with reactivated chat. She noted:
