PCGamesN Tuesday, February 27, 2024 10:43 AM I really miss Command and Conquer. It's not the mechanics as such, although Westwood's classic did a lot to pioneer the modern RTS. It's the visuals, the aesthetic. I miss the pixel art, the simple maps, and the sweeping semi top-down perspective. Likewise, I have a sincere nostalgia for Age of Empires. Perhaps I'm being too sentimental, but strategy and RTS games from the '90s and early '00s seem to leap off the screen more than their modern counterparts. Stark colors. Blocky buildings. Simply animated little units. Between Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, and the epochal Age of Empires 2, I long for a return to the genre's heyday. A new Steam RTS, playable right this moment, feels like an homage to this era. Mixing Westwood's classic, AoE, and some smart automation systems, you can check it out today for free. PCGamesN Tuesday, February 27, 2024 10:18 AM Any game coming up against Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree later this year is going to have a tough time, especially if it's a fellow soulslike. Launching on the exact same day as that DLC would be self-destructive, so imagine revealing your soulslike's release date mere days before FromSoftware, only to find you picked the same spot on the calendar. This is exactly what happened to Enotria: The Last Song, so the team is wisely delaying its own game to get out of Elden Ring's way. |

PCGamesN Tuesday, February 27, 2024 10:06 AM What are the best clicker and idle games? Also known as 'incremental' or 'idle' games, the name betrays certain expectations: click your mouse, get a tiny reward, and repeat until you can make the process more efficient and lucrative. Once relegated to the dark corners of Itch.io and Kongregate, the genre has grown in popularity in recent years, and marketplaces like Steam are bursting at the seams with new idle, clicker, and incremental games for you to try. Luckily, you have PCGamesN to help you find the best clicker games worth playing. The very best ones manage to distill high-complexity concepts into a series of single clicks and automation, and while they might not be among the best PC games for their depth or storylines, they're certainly among the most relaxing games to play for a calming few hours or more. They're also often free, so if you're looking for a low-budget alternative to the best free PC games, you may find an idle game that suits your tastes. Continue reading Best clicker games 2024 |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, February 27, 2024 11:00 AM I've had to look up.... goddamn it, hang on. I've had to look up Wrath Colon Aeon Of Ruin every day to remember its utter nothing of a name. Such a weak title deserves a much worse game, but this captures the feeling of its late 90s FPS influences as they actually were, and ends up just familiar enough to work, and just original enough to refresh the formula. At times, it's a little too accurate, but even with its annoyances dialled up by the pressure of playing it too hard for the sake of review, I'm impressed with the balancing act it's struck. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, February 27, 2024 10:00 AM I seem to be on a highly irritating "refuse to play games as they were intended to be played" spree lately. A couple of weeks ago, it was "I refuse to leave the prologue area in Skull And Bones", a decision that has sadly been born out by Ed's review. Then it was "I refuse to play Helldivers 2 as a co-op shooter", which again, is a stance I am sticking with, even as I am overrun and sat on by Terminid Chargers. And now it's "I refuse to play Cobalt Core as a roguelike deck-builder, because it secretly isn't one". Come now, squint at the header image so that the text and numbers fade away, and all you can see are coloured shapes. Pay attention to certain underlying rhythms while playing. Need I say any more? |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, February 27, 2024 9:55 AM Another day, another videogame company jettisoning a large number of people "who have contributed to our success" so as to position themselves for growth in the face of "challenging times". Today it's Sony's turn with the axe: the PlayStation publisher have announced plans to reduce their global workforce by about 8% or 900 people, so as "to future ready ourselves to set the business up for what lies ahead", in the words of outgoing president and CEO Jim Ryan. Several well-known PlayStation studios are affected, including The Last Of Us developer Naughty Dog, Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games, Horizon developer Guerilla Games and PlayStation VR specialists Firesprite. It's also proposed that PlayStation close Sony London in their entirety, though the exact scale of the reductions remains to be seen. |

With a June release now confirmed for Shadow Of The Erdtree, the long-awaited expansion, director Hidetaka Miyazaki has now hinted that we Tarnished may have missed something. One small secret may yet remain, assuming he's not pulling another prank, or maybe not. Honestly, Miyazaki should say it has hundreds of undiscovered things. Keep everyone guessing. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, February 27, 2024 7:47 AM Last night I dreamt I had to review a Dragon Age DLC. I reviewed it poorly. I thought that it should not have been marketed as main game DLC instalment when it pivoted to being a magical girl dating sim. This serves to show how unrealistic dreams can be; in my waking hours I am, of course, of the clear-eyed awareness that a magical girl dating sim is entirely in-keeping with the rest of the Dragon Age oeuvre. I'm worried about Dragon Age. I'm worried that so much cost has been sunk, team members changed and redrafting did that it'll end up kind of a mess. But that's the pessimism talking. What I'd like to propose is that all the big game companies have a crack at something similar to Amazon's (hiliarious and abortive) attempt to officially license fan fiction, which was called Kindle Worlds. |

Square Enix offered an update on its FFVII Rebirth launch day stream, and it confirmed that English voice actors, former IGN host Naomi Kyle, and New Japan Pro Wrestling member Kenny Omega will appear. The program will stream on the official Square Enix Twitch channel at 1pm PT/4pm ET/9pm GMT on February 28, 2024.
The activities at the event weren't detailed. However, various people will appear to talk about the game. Here is the full list of FFVII Rebirth English voice actors who will show up at the event and the roles they play.
Note that Cloud Strife's English voice actor, which is Cody Christian, won't be present. The voice actor for Cait Sith is also not scheduled to appear.
As for the involvement of Kenny Omega at the FFVII Rebirth event, he shared the announcement and teased, "The One Winged Angel is coming." B-Project Ryusei Fantasia, the Japanese MAGES Switch game based on the anime and manga, will be released in English worldwide and get a PC version. PQube announced it picked up the visual novel and will release it "soon."
It's been quite a while since B-Project Ryusei Fantasia released in Japan. It first showed up on the Switch there in September 2021. A mobile release then followed a few months later in February 2022. As there's no exact release window yet beyond "soon," we don't know exactly how many months and years it took for it to be picked up. The Switch version will be available digitally and physically. The Steam page is already live for the title.
In the game, players are an Artist & Repertoire supporter helping 14 singers from the groups KiLLER KiNG, Kitakore, MooNs, and THRIVE become one group: B-Project. Your decisions will determine which of the two endings you'll get. You'll also be able to go through epilogues for all 14 of the characters.
Here's the B-Project Ryusei Fantasia English trailer. It's the opening movie that also introduces all the main characters and the theme song "sung" by the idols.
PQube also shared the first six English screenshots for the game, which we can go through in the gallery below.
B-Project Ryusei Fantasia will come to the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam worldwide soon. It is available on the Switch and mobile devices in Japan. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll worldwide.

Yoshiki Okamoto has published a teaser for his new game project with the tentative title Project K. The veteran game producer noted in a press release that the new project will involve blockchain and NFT.
Okamoto also opened an official website and X account for Project K. The website's background contains multiple keywords, with the ones in the alphabet reading "Android," "iOS," "Web3," and "NFT." Some of the other terms in Japanese katakana include "Roguelite," "Breed," "Trade," "App," "Smartphone," and "Blockchain." A new patch appeared for Final Fantasy VII Remake ahead of the launch of FFVII Rebirth, and people noticed a chance to a line Aerith says in the ending and Tifa's outfit. It appears both are designed to better help the first game tie in with the second in the remake trilogy. [Thanks, Resetera!]
Editor's Note: There will be spoilers for Final Fantasy VII Remake segments with Aerith and Tifa below.
First, the change to the outfit for Tifa has to do with a brief Nibelheim flashback Cloud experiences in Final Fantasy VII Remake. This video by DarkYamiThe3RD shows the difference between the two. The new version's shirt is different and matches the one shown in early trailers and screenshots for FFVII Rebirth.
As for the new Aerith ending line in Final Fantasy VII Remake, a single sentence is changed. In the original ending, she would say, "I miss it. The steel sky." In the new ending, she says, "This sky… I don't like it."
Final Fantasy VII Remake is available on the PS4, PS5, and PC. FFVII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024. Its demo is live now on the PlayStation Store. The game's PS5 exclusivity arrangement expires on May 29, 2024.

The game will be set in the Kalos Region, which first debuted in the Gen 6 titles Pokemon X and Y. The reveal trailer focused on the urban redevelopment plans for Lumiose city and showed how the city looks like in the present day. While the previous Legends game focused on a past version of the Sinnoh Region called the Hisui Region, we still don't know in what era of the Pokemon history will be set in. In addition, the return of the Mega Evolution mechanic in the new Legends game was teased at this end of the trailer.

During the Pokemon Presents 2024 showcase, a new mobile app called Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket is in development ahead of a 2024 debut. The Pokemon Company International, DeNA, and Creatures Inc designed a title that allows for quick battles, card collecting, and card trading.
The first trailer showed up during the presentation. It highlighted the ability to pick up packs as you go about your daily life. A person can then open and inspect the newly acquired cards. It is also possible to "immerse" oneself in them to get a better look at the art for special cards. It also noted that quick battles with others who own the game is possible.
Here's the full video. The footage of the new title appeared at the 5:45 minute mark.
As a reminder, the latest full, digital adaptation is Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. Its beta ended and the game fully launched in June 2023. It can be played on PCs and mobile devices.
Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket will come to mobile devices in 2024. Pokemon TCG Live is available now on PCs and mobile devices. The last physical Pokemon TCG expansion is Paldean Fates, and it is immediately available worldwide.

When Arcade Paradise appeared on consoles and PCs in 2022, it ended up being a novel surprise. A laundromat and arcade management sim with some genuinely appealing original arcade games? It was my jam. Now in 2024 we'll be seeing Arcade Paradise VR, a new adaptation that ports the game to the Meta Quest headsets, and I appreciate how well Nosebleed Interactive seems to have it settling in on the systems.
For those unfamiliar with the premise, Arcade Paradise and its VR release both follow Ashley. After getting a laundromat to run from an overbearing father, the new manager realizes there are some old arcade cabinets in the back generating a surprising amount of revenue. So the goal becomes managing the laundromat to build up the arcade with (playable) original titles, as well as optimizing the arcade in the back to your liking.
For this VR version, the bulk of the tasks suddenly feeling more realized in VR occur when doing folks' laundry. You grab the baskets off of the intake shelf. You go to a machine, set the dial for the colors in it, open the machine door, load in the laundry, shut it, and start the wash. While those are being cleaned, you can play arcade games or tidy up by grabbing trash, yanking stray gum wads, cleaning the toilet, and repairing broken machines.
When a load is done, you unload it from the washer, walk to a dryer, open the door, load it in, choose a setting based on the color of the basket, and start that. When that's done, you take that to the completed shelf. Rinse and repeat, while also gathering money from the laundromat token machine and arcade cabinets, dumping it in the safe, and using that money to buy new cabinets. It all felt very natural when I played in VR, though it seemed like the actual movement was a little too swift and motion-sickness-inducing for me than the teleport option.
The biggest quirks I noticed in the build I ended up playing were typical growing pains of a game in development. For example, during the initial tutorial some of the boxes would… um… appear inside the washing machines. See, if I was facing a certain direction when a notice would come up, the text box would sort of be clipping inside of it. When I'd need to clean the toilet, even if I gripped the handle in such a way that it should have the proper angle for cleaning, it sometimes wouldn't work as naturally as I'd expect.
Also, I didn't really get to experience any of the new, VR exclusive games in Arcade Paradise VR. It seems like those cabinets may come later than the expansions I unlocked. However, I did get to see how UFO Assault handles, which involves pressing a button, and… it's fine? It isn't as technical as something like the new basketball cabinet, but it works.
Given the nature of the original Arcade Paradise, Arcade Paradise VR really does seem like it could be an ideal kind of game for the Meta Quest. The laundromat management elements lend themselves really well to VR. The arcade cabinets all tend to work well too, since you're just… standing up at it or playing one of the existing VR cabinets in VR or new ones. What I experienced in the early build makes it seem like could really come together.
Arcade Paradise VR is coming soon to the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest Pro. The original Arcade Paradise is available on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and PC.

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, February 27, 2024 1:51 PM With the announcement of Pokémon Legends ZA and the return of the Kalos region from X & Y- specifically Lumiose City – I got to wondering what else might be making a return. Here are some X & Y characters who could make a triumphant comeback in Pokémon Legends ZA. X & Y Characters and Pokémon Legends Z-A- Who might we see again? There are two most likely characters to appear again in Pokémon Legends Z-A given the game's setting and name. Clemont, the Electric-type Gym Leader of Lumiose City, and the character the title is hinting at – Az, the ancient immortal king of Kalos who wanders the land. With how much the trailer focuses on the Prism Tower, it seems almost guaranteed Clemont will be involved. It is his gym inside that tower. As for Az, his entire story revolves around how he ended a war three thousand years ago. This may be why Pokémon Legends ZA is set in modern-day Lumiose City and not in the past like Arceus. WGB Tuesday, February 27, 2024 12:38 PM Once you take the full context of its existence into account Skull and Bones suffers. Not only has it been in development for over a decade and reportedly cost Ubisoft $200 million to make, but it's not even as good as Assassin's Creed: IV: Black Flag, the inspiration for its creation. Skull and Bones originally began life as a multiplayer expansion designed to build upon the excellent naval combat in Black Flag, but throughout its long life was reimagined several times. The only somewhat consistent idea was that it was going to build on the ship-to-ship battles of Black Flag, eventually morphing into what we have now: a live-service, kind-of-multiplayer title that was recently described by Ubisoft's CEO as being the quadruple A videogame. You did a good job of setting expectations there. But there's some good news: Skull and Bones is better than you probably thought it would be. |
