Tropic Haze, the creators of the Switch emulator Yuzu, will pay Nintendo $2.4 million to settle their lawsuit. Yuzu's creators will also pull the program and source code, as well as close down the website and social media channels. [Thanks, OatmealDome!]
As mentioned above, Yuzu's website will shut down, and they will no longer distribute the source code or the program. Citra will no longer be available either. For reference, Yuzu was a fan created emulator program for people to play Switch games on. Nintendo sued Yuzu's developers, stating that the program circumvents the Switch's encryption, as well as facilitates wide-spread piracy.
According to the lawsuit, people pirated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom over a million times before the game actually came out. During this time, thousands of members joined Yuzu's Patreon, paying the creators for their service. Not only does Nintendo not make any money back from the game, but it can also ruin other players' experiences when pirates post spoilers or content from the game prior to an official release.
Yuzu's developers put out a message in the official Discord server for the program. It started with saying that Yuzu's team has always been against piracy and the project started from a place of passion. They did not realize at the start that people could use Yuzu to circumvent Nintendo's protective measures and play pirated games. The message also stated that they're disappointed some people chose to leak game content before the official release. They pulled the program and source code, as well as discontinued the Patreon and Discord server, because they discourage piracy and believe that it should cease to exist.
Yuzu is no longer available, and the creators have to pay Nintendo a $2.4 million.

The OffKai Expo convention for Vtubers and their fans announced that Nijisanji Ethyria members Enna Alouette, Millie Parfait, and Reimu Endou will not appear. The official social media account noted people can ask for refunds as a result.
When discussing the announcement, the OffKai organizers noted this was being done both for the sake of people attending the event and the performers. It also clarified that it and Anycolor decided the Nijisanji Ethyria Vtubers wouldn't attend "two weeks prior."

OffKai Expo's reply to its official statement on the cancellation of Nijisanji English Vtubers came after rumors of Vtubers and vendors being sent notices of rejection. After FalseEyeD brought it up on social media, organizers of the event offered an official reply saying Anycolor had no bearing on its decisions.
As a reminder, Ethyria debuted back in October 2021. The group consisted of Enna Alouette, Millie Parfait, Reimu Endou, and Nina Kosaka. Nina graduated back in July 2023.
OffKai Expo will begin on May 31, 2024, and it will end on June 2, 2024. It takes place in Burlingame, California.

During the 96th Oscars Nominee Programs livestream on March 3, 2024, Studio Ghibli Co-Founder Hayao Miyazaki commented on his work for The Boy and the Heron. According to Miyazaki, he was able to finish it because the money kept coming. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
You can watch Miyazaki's portion of the interview from around the 26:20 mark of the livestream. He's with Toshio Suzuki, who is a producer, co-founder, and president of Studio Ghibli. He was the producer for The Boy and the Heron as well.
During the interview, they thanked people for nominating their film, and then started discussing it. When Suzuki asked what Miyazaki was most happy about with The Boy and the Heron, Miyazaki took a moment to think before saying that he's glad they finished it. Production took seven years, which was the longest Studio Ghibli ever took making a movie. Miyazaki joked that he thought they could never finish it, but they did because the money never stopped coming in. After sharing a laugh, Suzuki said, "Yay." He then flashed the peace sign at the camera.
The Boy and the Heron came out in July 2023. Despite sharing a name with a novel in the original Japanese, the story is an original one with autobiographical elements from Miyazaki's childhood. The movie made over $167 million worldwide.
The Boy and the Heron has finished its theatrical run and Blu-Ray/DVD versions should come out some time in 2024.

Square Enix will offer a re-run of its Final Fantasy VII Remake Aerith and Tifa watches. You can get them via the e-Store in Japan, though the US storefront isn't offering them again yet at time of writing.
The watches' prices are different depending on which you get. The Aerith one costs 35,200 JPY ($319.99). Meanwhile, the Tifa one costs 38,500 JPY ($349.99). Both of them will come out on August 31, 2024.
These watches initially appeared in the e-Store in February 2023 and I were available for both Japan and North America. If you're in North America, you can try ordering the re-run watches from the e-Store as well.
Here is how the two look:
These watches have very different vibes even though they're both from Final Fantasy VII Remake. Aerith's watch has pink leather straps—the same color as her dress—and it uses ribbons and flowers in the design. The numbers on the face use Roman numerals. In contrast, the Tifa watch uses white-and-black since that's what her outfit colors are, and it has the Seventh Heaven logo on the face as well. Unlike Aerith's watch, the Tifa watch doesn't have any numbers on it. Instead, it uses swords that the hands point to.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is readily available on the PS5. The console exclusivity arrangement will end on May 29, 2024.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is already shaping up to be a serious Game of the Year contender. But with all the buzz, newcomers might be asking: Do I need to play the original Final Fantasy VII before diving into FF7 Rebirth?
Do you need to play Final Fantasy 7 before FF7 Rebirth?
The short answer? No, you don't. But the long answer? I highly recommend it. Not just because Final Fantasy VII is a classic but also because the Remake & Rebirth series are far from straight remakes. Instead, they're weaving new tales while paying homage to the original. You can dive into the Remake & Rebirth as a newbie and still have a blast. However, you'll miss out on some subtext and plot points. These games aren't just remakes; they're fresh narratives that build on knowledge of Final Fantasy VII.
Sure, you could jump in blind and let the new experience be your only one. But I think the meta storytelling, where the game almost winks at the audience and says, "Yep, that's different this time," is only possible if you know how the original played out. So, some of the "twists" in the modern remakes are built around the player having knowledge the game isn't giving you otherwise.
Final Fantasy VII before Remake & Rebirth gives you context for the changes
I can't spill all the beans without spoilers, but many of the changes from the original storyline are meant to throw off veteran players. For instance, a huge twist from the end of the original game is just casually dropped in the first hours of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with no fanfare. New players won't even realize this information wasn't common knowledge for most of the original game's playthrough.
If this were some obscure RPG without a digital release, I'd understand the urge to jump straight into Remake & Rebirth. But let's be real: there's no major obstacle to beating Final Fantasy VII in 2024. You can snag the game on pretty much any modern hardware for less than $10. Plus, these versions come with quality-of-life features like the ability to turn off random encounters.
I'm not here to tell you how to enjoy your games. If you're not keen on playing the original, Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth still offers a ton of fun. But if you want to get the most out of the experience, I strongly suggest giving Final Fantasy VII a go before diving into the Remake & Rebirth. If you're really not into playing it, at least check out a plot summary on YouTube.
