Tomb Raider owner Embracer thinks AI will

AI in gaming is a hot topic right now with AMD's new AI CPUs about to release and AI-enhanced upscaling software being an ever more common feature for getting the best performance on PC. Now, the Embracer Group believes that AI will also aid general game development, and it's vague plans aren't being received well.

Even if you have the best graphics card, the chances are you will still use an AI-based upscaling software like Nvidia DLSS or AMD FSR to improve your frame rates. What Embracer is proposing, however, is a broader use of AI to impact not just game optimization, but also "increase resource efficiency".

Intel's Lunar Lake CPUs could be delayed, miss the back-to-school rush

If you were eyeing up one of Intel's upcoming Lunar Lake-based laptops whether as a general purpose laptop for school/college/travel or as a dedicated gaming laptop, you might be waiting longer than you hoped. It's being reported that the Intel Lunar Lake launch has been pushed back from an original launch window of Q3 2024 (Jul - Sept) to Q4 2024 (Oct - Dec).

This delay means that while new Intel Lunar Lake laptops might be available in time for Black Friday and holiday season shopping, they will only just have become available so discounts might be few and far between. As such, those seeking some of the best gaming laptops in particular, are liking to be relying on long existing models that are already available now, such as the Asus Zephyrus G14.

Beautiful new cyberpunk sandbox building game Dystopika hits Steam

The best sandbox games have long been a way to indulge in your creativity, from the creative playgrounds of Terraria and Minecraft to the intricacies of Satisfactory and the chaos of Teardown. One of my favorite trends in recent times, however, is the free-form sandbox building game that strips back goals or objects in favor of pure creation. Following in the footsteps of the fantastic Summerhouse and Tiny Glade comes Dystopika, a cyberpunk game out now on Steam that invites you to "the darker side of cozy."

League of Legends Swarm fixes LoL's summer event problem

Riot has finally unveiled League of Legends' four-player Vampire Survivors style mode, Swarm. Fully PvE, you and three friends (or just you, whatever you prefer) are thrust into the colorful shoes of the Anima Squad and tasked with fending off legions of cascading Primordians. League of Legends Swarm is the first non-PvP mode we've seen in quite a while, with Odyssey: Extraction being the last one back in 2018. At an exclusive event in Riot HQ in sunny Santa Monica, Los Angeles, I ask the team why they've decided to bring back PvE after all this time.

While, at its core, League of Legends is very much a competitive PvP experience, Riot has dropped a few PvE modes in its lifetime that absolutely slap. I remember the good ol' days of Star Guardian's Invasion mode, and I still rock the Odyssey Sona skin over the iconic DJ one because of just how fond my memories are. So when Riot invited me to check out its highly anticipated PvE mode ahead of launch, I was far too excited. In a room bathed in purple backlighting from a shining Anima Squad-inspired archway, I stepped into the chaotic world of League of Legends Swarm, and it's the most fun I've had playing League in a long time.

Save a massive 50% on this 165Hz, 27-inch Samsung gaming monitor

You can grab a Samsung Odyssey G50A (LS27AG500PNXZA) for 50% off its usual price right now. That nets you a 27-inch, IPS gaming display with a 165Hz refresh rate and 2,560 x 1,440 resolution for just $199.99 in this Samsung gaming monitor deal.

NZXT Function 2 review: making waves in the gaming keyboard market

NZXT isn't the first name that comes to mind when thinking about gaming keyboards, but that just makes the NZXT Function 2 a more pleasant surprise after my time testing both the full-size and MiniTKL models. While the Function 2 lacks some high-end gaming features like per-key adjustable actuation and rapid trigger, what it does offer is still well worth the MSRP, and still gives you the ability to customize your switches and keycaps if desired.

All in all, the NZXT Function 2 is one of the best gaming keyboards if you're trying to get the most for your money without spending more than $150. As brands like Razer and SteelSeries stuff their premium boards full of features, leading to an inflated cost, it opens up the mid-range market to products like the Function 2 which still has plenty to offer but does so without the eye-watering cost.

New FPS Strinova is Valorant with anime girls and a huge twist

When I first joined the gaming news industry, my main assignment was producing Valorant content. I've played Riot's FPS from day one, but have since fallen out of love with online shooters because the gameplay just feels slightly repetitive (and I'm not as good of a shot as I once was). The Finals piqued my interest because it did something different, but its rapid decline means I've only taken it for a spin once or twice. Yet, a part of me still yearns for some good ol' fashioned head popping, so when I caught wind of Strinova, which is a bizarre mashup of Riot's FPS and, surprisingly, Genshin Impact, I was intrigued.

Best Game of Thrones games for fans of series to play in 2024

What are the best Game of Thrones games on PC? With the second season of House of the Dragon now in full swing, fans are once again becoming deeply immersed in the world of Westeros. The TV adaptations of George R. R. Martin's work have resonated with millions of fans, and if you're looking for a new way to experience to world of A Song of Ice and Fire, we've got a long list of PC games to recommend.

From complex political webs, to nuanced histories, and loads of sex and violence - there are many aspects to Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. The games we've included in this list encompass all of these features. Some of them are official Game of Thrones tie-ins, while others are fantasy games and RPG games that have very obviously taken a large dollop of inspiration from the popular TV series and the books that inspired it.

Oh, and we won't be mentioning the dreadful 2012 tie-in from Atlus USA (outside of this sentence) - this game has been banished to the Wall for crimes against the crown.

     Best gaming PC 2024

The best gaming PC is a system that suits your needs and fits within your budget. It could be something that spares no expense, packing the most powerful hardware into a premium case, or a budget build that's more than capable of running your favorite esports game. Regardless of which rig sounds more up your street, we're here to help you figure out what prebuild is right for you.

Whether you know how to build a gaming PC or not, prebuilt systems offer a convenient way to upgrade your set-up in one fell swoop with minimal hassle. They typically come with a small premium versus doing it yourself, but this does remove the risk of things going wrong on your end. Better still, you'll be covered by another warranty on top of the individual parts.

The best websites for custom PC builds will offer you a selection of components to choose from within a given price range. As a general rule of thumb, you're best putting the majority of your budget into the most powerful graphics card you can afford, as it'll have the most dramatic effect on performance. When it comes to picking out a CPU, opt for something with at least six cores if you can, but don't forget to pair it with two 8GB sticks of RAM.

It's worth mentioning that the handheld PC market has greatly matured in recent years, with the Steam Deck serving as the most successful pioneer. These devices are worthy alternatives to a tower, particularly if your buying power is on the lower side.

Best Elden Ring settings for max fps

Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has finally arrived, and you're going to need the best settings possible to tackle the Lands of Shadow if you hope to survive.

Developer FromSoftware hasn't really changed its approach to PC ports since Dark Souls 2, so veterans of the studio's games should feel right at home in the settings menu.

Despite this, some bad habits have also made their way into the PC port of Elden Ring and have remained in place ever since. The game is limited to 60fps and features no ultrawide monitor support, as with previous FromSoftware Soulsborne games. There's also no sign of upscaling features like AMD FSR or Nvidia DLSS, or other technologies unique to the platform like Nvidia Reflex. Mods can be downloaded to add many of these features, but it's a hassle that could easily be avoided.

AMD's newest Ryzen gaming CPUs just got a significant price cut

AMD has just dropped the price on its trio of Ryzen 8000G CPUs, which are the company's chips with powerful integrated graphics intended to power small gaming PCs without the need for a separate graphics card. This AMD CPU price cut sees between $20 and $30 taken off the MSRPs of the 8700G, 8600G, and 8500G.

These aren't the sort of AMD CPUs we'd normally pick out as the best gaming CPU options, as most of the time we'd recommend buying a CPU with basic integrated graphics (or none at all) and a separate graphics card, to get the best gaming performance. However, if you're looking to build a really tiny gaming PC, or you just want to build a general-purpose mini PC that can do some occasional light gaming, then these CPUs are ideal.

     Best Elden Ring talismans locations

What are the best Elden Ring talismans? Talismans are Elden Ring's version of rings from previous Souls games. Each talisman bestows a passive buff, with effects ranging from general boons like faster stamina regen to increased damage for the final attack in a Twinblade combo.

You can find an array of the best Elden Ring talismans in the RPG game's vast open world; some in treasure chests in Elden Ring dungeons, some drop as loot from enemies and bosses, and others can be bought from merchants. Though their utility will vary based on your Elden Ring build and which of the best Elden Ring weapons you're using, talismans provide a much-needed helping hand when taking on Elden Ring bosses. As you progress to more challenging areas, you will encounter upgraded versions of talismans with increased effects and be able to expand the number of equipped talismans with pouches.

Honkai: Star Rail Firefly Scale Figure Confirmed

Among the Good Smile Company Smile Fest 2024 reveals was one for a Honkai: Star Rail Firefly scale figure. There's no release window for her just yet, but the item is on the way and could be among the first premium pieces of merchandise based on the heroine.

Editor's Note: There will be Honkai: Star Rail Firefly spoilers mentioned below.

As this is still a piece of merchandise early in development, there is no prototype photo of the Firefly Honkai: Star Rail figure for us to see. However, it does seem like the image used for the teaser could be concept art for the item. It shows Firefly in her standard outfit, which we first saw her wear when we met her in Penacony in 2.0. She's also holding a piece of equipment in her right hand. This could be what she uses to transform and enter her mech SAM.

Here's the full announcement for the upcoming figure. Good Smile Company didn't clarify its size, so we don't know if it could be 1/6 or 1/7 scale.

https://twitter.com/gsc_kahotan/status/1804092395841294827

This is one of multiple recent Good Smile Company Honkai: Star Rail figure reveals. A Dan Heng Nendoroid Doll is on the way in 2025. An Aventurine Nendoroid is also in development.

Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the Firefly scale figure is in development. The Firefly banner is available in-game until July 10, 2024, as is the Ruan Mei rerun banner.

However, the announcement included official art of Asuka and Rei in their plugsuits from that Rebuild of Evangelion movie so we can get an idea of how the Nendoroids will look. Asuka is wearing her typical red uniform with black and green accents. Meanwhile, Rei's is white with some black, green, and orange highlights.

Here's the Smile Fest 2024 reveal:

https://twitter.com/GoodSmile_US/status/1804099503168877007

Both new releases and rereleases of Evangelion Nendoroids frequently appear. Two of the most recent ones were Nendoroid Dolls of these two heroines in their school uniforms. A Gendo Ikari Evangelion 3.0 movie one is coming, and it includes spoilers. A new Misato Katsuragi entry will also appear in 2024, and she comes with PenPen.

There's no release window yet for the Asuka Shikinami Langley and Rei Ayanami plugsuit Nendoroids from Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. The Rebuild of Evangelion movies are available to watch on Amazon. The original anime is on Netflix.

Guilty Gear Strive Baiken figure by Union Creative

Union Creative has revealed that it will release its new figure of Baiken from Guilty Gear Strive in December 2024. The Japanese company has also opened pre-orders for the figure, which will cost 26,400 yen. The company's own web store also supports international shipping via the WorldShopping widget, so people living outside Japan can also place an order at around $167.15.

This figure will depict Baiken's appearance in Guilty Gear Strive since she joined the game as a DLC character in late January 2022. The figure will have a total height of around 23 cm (~9.05 inches), which is measured to the highest part of her hair.

Here are some of the sample images for Baiken's new figure taken from multiple angles:

This figure has been undergoing development for over two years. Union Creative first revealed its plan to produce Baiken's figure in late May 2022. As the company has set the figure's release window in December 2024, it will take around two-and-a-half years in total from the first announcement until the formal release.

Union Creative will close the pre-order window for the Guilty Gear Strive Baiken figure on August 23, 2024. It will release the actual figure in December 2024.

New NIKKE Figures Are Marian and Neon Nendoroids

Good Smile Company already got to work on Goddess of Victory: NIKKE figures, and it revealed Marian and Neon Nendoroids are on the way. Both of them appeared as part of the manufacturer's Smile Fest 2024 reveals.

Both Marian and Neon are prominent Nikke characters in NIKKE, with Marian being the one that accompanies players through the earliest moments and tutorial. Both of the Nendoroids are based on their original designs and don't involve any alternate appearances. It also seems they each will come with a weapon. This means Marian carries her First Affection SMG, while Neon carries her Annihilation Shotgun.

Here's the reveal that they are on the way:

https://twitter.com/GoodSmile_US/status/1804097957924368390

These will be the third and fourth NIKKE Nendoroids to join the figures based on the series. The first was Rapi. The second is Anis. However, while there are only a few Nendoroids, other types of figures appeared. For example, a scale figure of Marian is coming.

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is available for the PC and mobile devices, and the Neon and Marian Nendoroids are in development with no release window set. The latest new character to join the game is the cheerleader Clay as part of the new Clay More event.

New Death Note Misa Amane Nendoroid Art Shared

One of the very first Nendoroid figures back in 2007 was one of Misa Amane from Death Note. At Smile Fest 2024, Good Smile Company confirmed that it is working on a 2.0 version of the character.

As the new Misa Amane Death Note Nendoroid is still early in development, only concept art is available. She'll wear the iconic black dress with choker and silver necklace she wears prominently throughout the series. Her hair will also appear with its trademark pigtails.

Here's the first look at the design.

https://twitter.com/GoodSmile_US/status/1804096701554217462

For reference, here's how the first version of her looked. It was Nendoroid number 18. Ryuk was 11, the first Light Yagami one was number 12, and L was 17.

Misa marks one of multiple 2.0 versions of figures in the series. Both the Light and L 2.0 figures appeared back in 2023. There's been no new version of Ryuk just yet.

There's no release window yet for the Death Note Misa Amane 2.0 Nendoroid, but the first one appeared back in September 2007. Viz Media handles the manga. The anime is streaming on Hulu and Netflix. Netflix is also home to a live-action movie.

New Danganronpa Nendoroids Are Nagito and Kyoko

Good Smile Company's Smile Fest 2024 involved many figure reveals, and Danganronpa Nendoroids of Kyoko Kirigiri and Nagito Komaeda appeared among them. Both are early in development, so only concept art of the two characters appeared.

Kyoko Kirigiri played a major role in the original Danganronpa and was one of the primary protagonists. Her Nendoroid involves her wearing her standard school uniform. She'll also wear her trademark gloves and have a ribbon in her hair. Meanwhile, Nagito Komaeda was a major figure in Danganronpa 2. His outfit is based on his appearance there, so he wears his white shirt with red marking and green overcoat.

Here's the official reveal that showed both of the characters' designs.

https://twitter.com/gsc_kahotan/status/1804095349734412587

There have been quite a few Danganronpa Nendoroids released so far. Things started with Makoto Naegi and Monokuma ones. Then, there was the Junko Enoshima one. (She appeared as a Pop Up Parade figure too!) A Chiaki Nanami Nendoroid also showed up.

The Danganronpa Nendoroids of Kyoko Kirigiri and Nagito Komaeda are in development. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is available on the PS4, PSP, Vita, Switch, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair can be found on the PS4, PSP, Vita, Switch, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices.

Good Smile Company's Serial Experiments Lain Figure Is a Nendoroid

Good Smile Company kicked off Smile Fest 2024 on July 1, 2024, and revealed a Serial Experiments Lain figure that is a Nendoroid of Lain Iwakura. There's no release window for it yet, however.

As this is such an early reveal, only art appeared in the social media announcement. However, the Serial Experiments Lain figure is far enough along for there to be official concept art of the Lain Iwakura Nendoroid. It showed that the character will appear in her school uniform. It also seems to suggest that her backpack will appear as an accessory she can wear on her back. No computers were shown in the official art.

https://twitter.com/GoodSmile_US/status/1804094434251845952

We have seen a few Serial Experiments Lain announcements over the years. For example, in 2023 Lain Iwakura became an AI chatbot in honor of the series' 25th anniversary.

The show actually isn't streaming anywhere at the moment. However, it is possible to purchase digital copies of the episodes. For example, the Microsoft Store sells the full 13-episode season.

The Lain Iwakura Nendoroid from Serial Experiments Lain is in development, and there's no exact release date for the new figure yet. The anime is available physically and digitally.
