Secretlab's best gaming chair is $100 cheaper, but not for long

July 15, 2024: Secretlab's 4th of July sale has now turned into a Prime 2.0 sale. You can still get up to $100 of its top gaming chairs.

A good gaming chair is essential for a comfortable setup, but the top models can be expensive. Good news, then, because Secretlab's Titan Evo gaming chair is currently on sale, with up to $100 off certain colorways. And, it's not just this chair that's discounted. Secret Lab has a massive Independence Day sale lasting another 5 days, including $89 off its mighty metal gaming desks like the Magnus Pro.

We can't recommend the Titan Evo chair enough if you're looking for one of the best gaming chairs on the market, thanks to its high-quality design that's both durable and comfortable. We don't often see Secretlab chairs on sale, so if you're considering splashing out on a new seat, now could be the time to buy.

Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess review - truly unique

As I sit here writing this introduction, I'm at a loss for how to introduce Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. The brainchild of Capcom Development Division 1, which is responsible for one of my all-time favorite franchises, Devil May Cry, I was worried that this Japanese folklore strategy game turned hack-and-slash adventure would be little more than a fun oddity. Following a brief hands-on at Summer Game Fest, however, I knew that Kunitsu-Gami was something special - something unquantifiable. So, here I am, reviewing a game I hadn't even heard of two months ago, still perplexed as to how to accurately describe what exactly it is.

If you can't log into FF14, it's typically because of planned maintenance. Fallout London is easily the biggest casualty of Bethesda's Fallout 4 next-gen update. The DLC-sized mod promises to take us to a post-apocalyptic England, and we could be playing it right now if not for the unfortunate timing of Bethesda's patch that broke both mods and the base game.      Obscure Stalker inspired MMO Stalcraft suddenly explodes back to life

No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, and perhaps, by the looks of it Dying Light 2 and Payday 3, are among the greatest comeback stories in recent gaming history. The nature of modern games - live service, always online, patches, updates - means the initial release is often only the beginning of the story. A good game might go underappreciated and underplayed for years until finally bursting into life. Such is the case with Stalcraft, an MMORPG with distinct traces of Fallout and Stalker. You might not have played or even heard of it, but in the era of redemption arcs, two years after it was first released, this online survival shooter is suddenly exploding into life on Steam.

The best platform games on PC 2024

What are the best platform games on PC? Back in the '90s and early '00s, you couldn't escape the countless platformers and mascot characters catering to console gamers. However, apart from the likes of Commander Keen, Jazz Jackrabbit, and Duke Nukem, the PC got very little love. Thankfully, this stigma has lessened since those days, and we owe that in large part to the explosion of indies that have flooded onto digital storefronts over the past decade or so.

The best platform games have garnered a reputation for requiring mechanical mastery and sublime timing to complete them, but developers continue to push the genre forward by introducing RPG game elements and Metroidvania game maps. Platforming can also be a staple mechanic in some of the best story games, as demonstrated in releases like Celeste and Ori and the Blind Forest. With so much to choose from, here are the best platformers on PC.

Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4070 could have had even less VRAM, reveals leak

Nvidia has reportedly been working on a GeForce RTX 4070 card with even less VRAM than the original 12GB version. According to leaked images, a 10GB Nvidia RTX 4070 card was doing the rounds during the GPU's development, with quite a different spec from the 12GB card. Nvidia has come under a lot of flak for not supplying its powerful GPUs with enough VRAM, but if these pictures are legitimate, the RTX 4070 could have been even more unbalanced.

In terms of the core spec, this leaked Nvidia RTX 4070 10GB card has quite a lot in common with the new RTX 4070 Super, which is the current top recommendation on our guide to the best graphics card. In particular, it looks as though the 10GB RTX 4070 was supplied with 7,168 CUDA cores, which is the same number as the new RTX 4070 Super card, while the original RTX 4070 only has 5,888 CUDA cores enabled.

New space strategy game The Crust blends Starfield with Frostpunk

The bigger you build in strategy games, the more divorced you become from the ground-level human drama. In the opening turns of Civilization 6, Age of Empires, and Cities Skylines 2, you feel a connection to every citizen - each decision has a measurable effect on a knowable, empathetic number of people. By the closing stages, however, you don't really care. More buildings. More units. More land. Combining the space-age style of Starfield with the automation and colony-sim mechanics of Factorio, The Crust is a new Steam strategy game that tries to remain identifiably human. So I've just hopped on my motorbike, enjoying one of several pleasingly incongruent classical musical tracks that plays from the radio, on my way to tick tasks off a list in the top right corner of my screen by scavenging an abandoned hospital. It's a great hospital, by the way. Spotlight-headed phantasma shamble about corridors reminiscent of The Division 2 or The Last Of Us's naturalia.

Striking, but also within easy reach of comparisons. And if Once Human was purely the collection of x from ys it very much appears to be, I'm not sure I'd have much positive to say about it. On the surface, what you're getting here is a 6/10 third-person shooter from ten years ago that gleefully spills thumbtacks along any simple paths to progress with live service obfuscation, propped up by a detached crafting and building economy that has you popping mined rocks and chopped wood in the oven then taking out freshly baked shotguns a few minutes later. Its systems run the gamut from numbly enjoyable to being a source of major psychic damage, and even the simple act of replacing your initial tier I rustic baseball cap means navigating several menus, currencies, and resources.

Death Game Hotel came out last week - a comically gory game in which players play casino-style card games around a table and raise the stakes by betting their own limbs. It's a VR game, which is a break from the norm for White Owls, the studio run by Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro (then again, what is their "norm"?). It's also got a big multiplayer component, with lots of jovial bubble-popping and chicken-squeezing between the comedy blood spurts. And this taste of multiplayer mischief has Swery's head percolating. This game won't be his last dipped toe in the multiplayer ocean, he told us.

"In the future," said Swery, "I would like to leverage this experience to challenge myself with something new in the online multiplayer realm (something you probably haven't even imagined yet)."

One could, I believe, make a convincing argument for Yakuza 0 being - if not the best videogame ever made - then at least the most videogame. While this coming October's Amazon series won't be the first live action adaption of Yakuza, I am hopeful its episodic format will give its characters a bit more room to breathe. First, there's a trailer highlighting the general events of FFVII Chapter 7. It only brings up Vincent's appearance at the very end, but does show how he'll fight in battle.

That trailer was followed by one that focused more on Vincent himself and his introduction. As a reminder, he used to be a Turk with Shinra in the General Affairs, Auditing department. After an incident involving Hojo, he went to sleep in a casket in Nibelheim.

Finally, there's a look at Vincent's official art in FFVII Ever Crisis. It shows his portrait during story scenes, his 3D chibi sprite from story segments, and his 3D model from fights.

The last new character who joined the FFVII Ever Crisis cast before Vincent was Cait Sith. He became playable in April 2024. Shortly after, he got his first gear costume.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is available on the PC and mobile devices. Vincent will join the roster when the FFVII Chapter 7 story appears in-game on July 17, 2024.

A black mist pours through a scarlet torii gate, with fingers clamped firmly around its edges. Pale pink light emanates from a thousand lotus petals that dance beneath the feet of a priestess as a masked warrior moves in tandem, slicing through insect-like demons that pour forth. Dawn breaks and these creatures melt away into webs of red ichor. As the maiden dances, she purifies the land around her and brings calm to a now-cursed mountain. This is Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Capcom's latest foray into an entirely new IP.

The narrative of Kunitsu-Gami is a simple, but effective, one. The Seethe, a malicious presence, escaped from its confinement on Mount Kafuku. The Maiden Yoshiro must press back against the defilement that has now corrupted the inhabitants of the village and destroyed the settlements throughout. The player does not assume the role of Yoshiro, but instead Soh, a summoned warrior that is capable of assisting the Maiden in her banishment of the Seethe. With sword in hand, Yoshiro and Soh work together as she dances to rid the world of this malicious presence, with you as her protector. The game is straightforward and uses the narrative as a means to get players right into the action, with its Japanese aesthetic and focus on folklore designed to create something that feels like a reasonable attempt at a new one-off IP for Capcom.

Kunitsu-Gami eases the player into its various systems. The game will guide you through its base building mechanic, which in truth is more or less the restoration of smaller shrines and areas that have been destroyed due to the pervasive presence of the Seethe. You cannot restore or rebuild any of these structures immediately and will instead need to assign a specific number of villagers to said reconstruction, with the passing of time dictated by completing missions. Restoring these areas will reward the player with Musubi, which can then be used to upgrade the masks you equip your units with. I ended up grinding away, setting my villagers to the task of rebuilding statues and buildings, before major encounters which allowed me to upgrade these masks to empower my units.

Masks more or less serve as a class system of sorts, with more becoming available as you progress the story. Villagers can be assigned roles before and during stages, depending on whether it is a generic tower-defense stage or a boss fight. There are more than a handful of different roles that can be obtained through the game, with each role a villager can assume based on the mask they have been assigned to wear. The first role players will unlock is the Woodcutter, which attacks enemies in its immediate vicinity as a melee class, with the second being the Archer. From there, you can unlock roles such as the Ascetic, which provide more supplementary skills such as creating barriers. There are other roles too, such as Ninja, which can play instrumental parts in specific stages, as each stage is more or less a puzzle players can solve through the use of these roles. I personally favored ranged roles such as the Archer, which gave me ranged support as I would tear through Seethe, attacking and blocking and micromanaging my units as Soh. Having a more active role in combat was honestly refreshing, and instead of just watching units fight I was more involved and more attentive.

At its heart, Kunitsu-Gami is a hybrid tower-defense and real-time strategy game. I would even go so far to say that it could even qualify to be called an action game, given that there are various combos you can perform to slice through and banish Seethe to varying effect. But at its heart, Kunitsu-Gami is about protecting a singular objective — that being the Maiden Yoshiro. Yoshiro, and Soh, are tasked with removing the "defilement" from Mount Kafuku, but this can only be done by escorting her to various Shinto shrines located throughout the mountain. Is it your duty as Soh to escort her through various stages, breaking through corrupted torii gates and banishing the Seethe that pour through. However, you're not alone in this objective.

During the day, players can cleanse each stage of the defilement, freeing villagers from brightly colored, chitinous cocoons. These villagers can then be assigned roles through the use of the aforementioned mask system and then put into position before sun sets and the Seethe crawl out of the defiled torii gates. (You can also command units to reposition to attack and defend with a simple press of a button, which makes things less complicated to a degree.)Thankfully, you can change the role of your villagers during stages, which is sometimes necessary.

Kunitsu-Gami doesn't always telegraph what enemies will be pouring out of these corrupted gates, so it's often good to have a healthy mix of ranged, support, and melee units. But again, if you need to swap it up you can do so in the middle of combat for a price. This means that swapping out masks isn't something you can infinitely do in the midst of battle. Swapping masks costs crystals, which can be earned during stages, but only in a finite amount. Boss encounters function similarly, except you are given the opportunity to prepare before a fight without a timer ticking down for you to banish the corruption and free villagers to aid you as Yoshiro dances towards the torii gates you need to purify.

But what is most striking about Kunitsu-Gami is its art style. The game is saturated with bright colors and kaleidoscope effects that accentuate each swing of Soh's sword. Environments are full of strange, insect-like growths that blossom into flowers of a vibrant pink with the corrupted torii gates sealed with a mass of gray fingers that dig inward. There is a level of uncanniness there that lends itself well to the game, encapsulating the unknowable nature of the Seethe, or rather that they are not of our world. I generally do not like to draw comparisons between games, but a lot of the designs in Kunitsu-Gami reminded me of the insect-like nature of the shibito in Siren: Blood Curse, also known as Siren: New Translation.

I absolutely adored the designs of the Seethe, each more uncanny than the next as they ventured deeper and deeper into the unknowable. Notable yokai such as the Kamaitachi appear, but not in a way that I would expect something so significant in Japanese folklore to be represented. Instead of a weasel, or something resembling a weasel. The Seethe version that appeared in this game was a mess of wispy flesh with something comparable to a wasp stinger attached to its lower half. The art direction in the game is really just fantastic, and one of the best things about Kunitsu-Gami, which I found myself enjoying despite how sparse the narrative actually is.

What I can say for Kunitsu-Gami is that it feels like a game that could have existed on the PlayStation 2, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. It's experimental and interesting, and I'm glad Capcom Development Studio 1 was able to make this game. The way it builds on the tower-defense genre and gives the player a more active role through the use of Soh as an avatar makes the game immediately more involved and interesting. I hope Kunitsu-Gami ends up garnering some kind of success so that it can show Capcom that these risks can be taken, even for AA titles, so we can see more of what its various development studios can create outside of established franchises.

Kunitsu-gami: Path of the Goddess will come out on July 19, 2024 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
