AMD's Strix Halo laptop CPU just got benchmarked, confused everyone

There's a lot of hype surrounding AMD's next-generation laptop CPU design, Strix Halo. It's set to follow the equally highly anticipated Strix Point chips, which are arriving as the Ryzen AI 300 series in laptops later this month, but is expected it include a big leap in GPU power. As such, today's leak of the first AMD Strix Halo benchmark should be cause for excitement, but ultimately leaves us still with plenty of questions.

The story so far with AMD Strix Halo is that it's a CPU design with a powerful integrated GPU that's set to find its way into the best gaming laptop designs of the future - with the launch expected to occur as early as CES 2025 in January next year. We've seen from previous leaks, concerning the  AMD Strix Halo GPU and AMD Strix Halo diagram, that the chip is expected to be powerful, but this new leak is the first to include benchmark data.

When is the Concord release date? Originally revealed in May 2023, we got our first look at Firewalk Studios' 5v5 shooter, Concord almost exactly one year later at Sony's State of Play. There are plenty of Freegunners groups out there, all of them searching for risky jobs that pay well. It's up to your crew to stop them in their tracks, while earning a huge paycheck in the process.      Nvidia's new Titan GPU will beat the RTX 5090, according to leak

In a move that would certainly surprise us if it turns out to be true, one rumor merchant has suggested there could be a new Nvidia Titan AI graphics card in the works, based on the upcoming Blackwell GPU. This would be a return of the Titan branding after Nvidia chose not to release a Titan variant of its RTX 40 series Ada Lovelace GPUs.

Were such a card to be released, it would basically be a nailed on certainty to be the best graphics card you could buy, with previous Titan cards having been the very fastest variant of older Nvidia GPU architectures at the time of their release.

In the heyday of Sierra's adventure game years, there was a series called Space Quest that featured an intergalactic janitor named Roger Wilco. The series was more satirical than King's Quest, less preachy than Police Quest, and not quite as adult as Leisure Suit Larry. Spearheaded by Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe - a pair of devs who called themselves "Two Guys from Andromeda" - Space Quest was renowned for its humour, and there was a nice sense of progression throughout most of the series, with Roger Wilco leveling up from working class spaceman to the head of his own Star Trek ship.

Tachyon Dreams Anthology, a collection of three short games previously released on Itch.io, is clearly channeling Space Quest. Made by indie dev Cosmic Void, AKA Aviv Salinas, each episode of Tachyon Dreams puts you in the shoes of an intergalactic dishwasher named Dodger, who's almost like an alternate Roger Wilco if you squint. Dodger's just chilling on a spaceship clearing plates when all of the staff around him disappear, which is basically what happened to Roger at the start of Space Quest I. Guided by a sentient computer, Dodge has to travel through time and space, and his quest eventually leads him on the trail of the Margdonians, a mysterious race that once cultivated the galaxy.

The plot, which starts with time travel and ends with Dodger literally contemplating his past while sitting on the porcelain throne, doesn't quite hit the mark set by any of the Space Quests. But the game's visuals are 100% reminiscent of a lost Sierra adventure from 1987 made with the company's then-famous AGI (Adventure Game Interpreter) engine. Even Dodger's walk cycle channels Roger Wilco's, though Dodger is several pixels larger than Roger ever was. I'm not sure if Tachyon Dreams Anthology was made in AGI Studio, gamemaking software that's been widely used amongst Sierra fans, but it certainly looks it. Cosmic Void's expert use of AGI's 16 colours is especially impressive, and I really appreciate the pixelated depictions of the galactic sky, swathed in lovely shades of blue and magenta. (Anyone who wants to see similar visuals in something that resembles a '90s game rather than an '80s one should check out Twilight Oracle, one of Cosmic Void's other projects. Alice B (RPS forever in peace) liked the demo!)

Between Against The Storms' critters, Manor Lords's perfect oxen, and now Cataclismo, Hooded Horse's roster of strategy games share a common thread that many guard-the-village-em-ups can fatally overlook: they present a civilisation that's worth protecting. Even if the fallen culture you'll defend against waves of gribblies offers fascinatingly few concrete details on its origins, there's a lithe and impressionistic otherworldliness and use of colour in Cataclismo's art that evokes unearthed layers of history. Also, everyone is just so gosh darn likeable, with their foppish hats plopped atop stretched bodies, and dialogue that remains resolute, chirpy, and eager, even when you're click-marching these poor folk straight to their deaths.

Still, none of this will stop me will sacrificing every last man, woman, and child of these beleaguered warriors if it means preserving a single one of my immaculately crafted staircases.

New Akane and Shampoo Ranma 1/2 Figures in Development

Ahead of the new Ranma 1/2 anime adaptation, new Akane Tendo and Shampoo figures are in the works. Proof shared teaser images of both characters on social media.

Both the Ranma 1/2 Akane and Shampoo figures are early in development. As such, only unpainted prototypes of each one appeared. There are also no release windows for either one. However, both of them will be scale figures.

The Akane Ranma 1/2 figure appeared first, and it showed her with her short hair as she's wearing a dress and sitting on a bench. It's technically also a figure of Ryoga Hibiki, as he appears in his pig form sitting in a basket next to her.

The Shampoo Ranma 1/2 prototype appeared shortly after that. It features the character wearing a cheongsam and sitting in a tree while holding an umbrella. Unlike the Akane figure, there is no reference to any other member of the cast present.

The Ranma 1/2 anime remake is set to return on October 5, 2024 in Japan. Akane's original voice actress Noriko Hidaka will return to play her. It is currently unknown if Shampoo's original voice actress Rei Sakuma will return.

The Proof Ranma 1/2 Akane and Shampoo figures are in development.

Guilty Gear Strive Dual Rulers

One June 14, 2024 Arc System Works announced that it would adapt Guilty Gear into an anime with the help of Sanzigen Studios. An image featuring Sol Badguy, Sin Kiske, and a mysterious new character was shared, teasing who would potentially play an integral role in this upcoming adaptation. Siliconera had the opportunity to sit down with Guilty Gear Strive Producer Ken Miyauchi, Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers Associate Producer Seiji Mizushima, and Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers Series Composer Norimitsu Kaiho.

Given how expansive the lore and narrative of Guilty Gear is, with the first title in the series released in 1998, I asked what the challenges were in adapting the "rock and roll" action and intricate lore into something comprehensible for those unfamiliar with the fighter. Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers Associate Producer Seiji Mizushima had an answer.

"Guilty Gear has a twenty-five year history, and it's quite a difficult question of how do you turn that into an anime. But we want a new audience to be able to get into Guilty Gear series, and also do something that satisfies the old fans. The big challenge was really how do we protect the world and setting of this IP. " Mizushima went on to state that the production team for the anime worked closely with Arc System Works to ensure that this was done.

"Originally, this came together because the former BlazBlue Producer, Mori Toshimichi, approached me and asked how could we make something like this work. More than anything, we needed to have a strong and solid vision moving forward, otherwise it wouldn't succeed. That was the original discussion we had around the production of this project." He shared. "We ended up working very deeply with both the creators on the side of Arc System Works and the people on the animation side as well. So if you want to talk about how intertwined they are, I would say it's an almost one-hundred percent collaborative effort."

Guilty Gear Strive Producer Ken Miyauchi also weighed in saying, "Once we formed that team and assured that level of collaboration, we had the Guilty Gear Strive narrative director looking at the story and we also decided to bring in Norimitsu, who is a script writer and very well known for his work on Guilty Gear." Miyauchi stated that Norimitsu is one of the most trusted script writers when it comes to Guilty Gear, as he had worked as a script writer on previous Guilty Gear related projects. He also revealed that Norimitsu helped write the scenario for the anime. "Norimitsu would write the scenario and bring it to Arc System Works and we would have weekly meetings for quality and lore checks." This even included making sure that characters wouldn't say phrases they otherwise wouldn't say.

"We didn't want players of the Guilty Gear series to feel like the anime wasn't in line with the storyline they were already familiar with. We wanted to make sure everything was aligned. At the same time, we also focused on bringing in newcomers from the anime." We want to make sure that there wouldn't be a reliance on understanding " Miyauchi also stated that they wanted to create something that wouldn't rely too heavily on newcomers needing that deep understanding of Guilty Gear lore for them to get invested, making it more accessible to people that may be exposed to the series for the first time.

Regarding Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, Series Composer Norimitsu Kaiho stated that it will be tied into previous established Guilty Gear narratives and lore. "It's a standalone in a sense that newcomers will be able to jump right in and enjoy it for what it is, but is connected to the old lore which will have a few things long-times fans may find exciting in the story." On the subject of characters that have long since been missing from the main roster of Guilty Gear, I asked if we would see some of these faces (like Robo-Ky) return. Both Norimitsu and Miyauchi laughed, Miyauchi telling me that they couldn't answer that specifically. However, he did mention that there are a few characters that didn't appear in Guilty Gear Strive that would show up in Dual Rulers. He did not specify as to which.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODo4fjcPkbI

When asked about a prospective sequel series, or a film, if Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers performs well, Norimitsu said he would love to create another story if given the chance. "I would like to see a possible sequel." Miyauchi added on. "Maybe the story of someone like Chipp, or something more character specific, or another type of drama. But all of these ideas are just something we'd like to see, and realistically, the first step we'd need to see is success with the anime."

We ended up moving the conversation into something more focused on Guilty Gear Strive and the growing popularity of the franchise. I had played several Guilty Gear games in the past, but I had always known the community to be relatively small. However, that's changed with Guilty Gear having an incredible presence at EVO and other fighting game tournaments. Miyauchi shared that he was elated to see that Guilty Gear Strive had surpassed 3 million players. "Some of our teams are quite surprised, I think the Arc System Works executives were not really expecting this level of success. Before I joined Arc System Works in 2018, I was just a casual player who liked playing fighting games. From that perspective, I knew that Arc System Works IPs like Guilty Gear had the potential of reaching this level of success. That's why I joined the company and became a Producer." He stated. Miyauchi mentioned that when Arc System Works announced Guilty Gear Strive had one million players, he knew it could do more and that when that number eventually jumped to three million, that it surprised him. However, he continues to aim high and hopes that five million players will be reached sometime in the future.

When asked about the hope that Guilty Gear: Dual Rulers will attract entirely new fans to Guilty Gear Strive, and even entice them into playing older entries in the series, Miyauchi shared his thoughts. "I'm not expecting all of these new fans to get into the fighting game, because even some long-time fans don't necessarily play a lot of fighting games and are instead attracted to the characters, lore, and music." He says. "I just hope that they will like what they like." I know that the level of success behind Guilty Gear is because of our very strong and enthusiastic community from previous entries in the series, and many of those fans discuss various things about Guilty Gear. " Miyauchi also said that he recognizes the success of the Guilty Gear franchise is largely owed to its dedicated and enthusiastic community, and that he knows that the various facets of this community will be more than willing to help newcomers come into the fold.

The Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers anime series is currently in development with no known release date. Guilty Gear Strive is readily available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Windows PC.

Ova Magica Modes With Multiplayer Could Be Considered

Ova Magica, a life and farming game like Harvest Moon with creature-catching elements like Pokemon, entered early access on Steam, and ClaudiaTheDev spoke about the possibility of multiplayer. While there is none in the base game, a note suggested that it is possible the team would consider it if the title "is popular enough."

In the statement, ClaudiaTheDev noted that the base Ova Magica game was only designed with a single-player farming and creature-catching experience in mind. The developer said in a reply on the Steam Discussion Forums, "Re-designing the code core is at this stage not an option anymore without risking to break the whole game."

However, it was after that statement that ClaudiaTheDev noted other multiplayer elements could eventually be investigated for Ova Magica. However, these seem like they would be outside of the main gameplay experience and instead be supplemental options. The Steam forum comment continued, "But when Ova Magica is popular enough and there will be a high demand we consider adding new "modes" with multiplayer options."

Ova Magica early access just began on Steam. People can already pick a starter Blob and begin collecting and raising them, however only 36 of the eventual 66 are available. Some Clover Town battles and Cup Tournament activities are available. The live-sim and farming part means all three seasons are available and 12 festivals can be experienced. However, while 13 characters are available to romance in Ova Magica now, you can only get to 3-4 of their seven Heart Events and marriage isn't possible yet.

Ova Magica is now in early access on PCs via Steam, and a full 1.0 launch is expected in between 8-10 months.

nintendo fidget toys controller

A second wave of controller button fidget toys will appear in gachapon machines in Nintendo stores in Japan. You'll be able to find them in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, as well as in the Narita airport.

Six of the twelve variations available are new. These ones will feature controller buttons, complete with ones of the analog sticks. You'll be able to get fidget toy keychains of the SNES, N64, and GC controller parts. There are even miniature ABXY letters on the fidget toys, much like how a real controller would look like.

The Kyoto branch of the Nintendo store had its grand opening in October 2023 and is the newest of the three locations. In July 2024, Nintendo announced that it would sell some exclusive ties at this particular store. These ties look fashionable and are made with high-quality fabric, but have designs of famous Nintendo characters and logos on them.

While the gachapon machines are available in the various stores, you'll need to look for the Nintendo Check In Booth in Narita airport. It's precisely because of this check-in booth that other airports, like Haneda, will not offer these gacha machines.

The Nintendo fidget toys that resemble controllers and consoles are available in Nintendo stores around Japan, as well at Narita airport.

Solid Snake Raiden Nendoroids

The Solid Snake and Raiden Metal Gear Solid Nendoroids are making a return after almost ten years. Both Metal Gear protagonists are now available to pre-order now ahead of a 2025 worldwide release.

The Metal Gear Nendoroids first released in 2015, with Solid Snake releasing in January and Raiden in November. Both figures are set to re-release in 2025, although they are available to pre-order now. Both Nendoroids are ¥6,500 from the Japanese store, which will release them in March 2025. Meanwhile, the US store is selling them for $37.99 and they will release in Q3 2025.

The Solid Snake Nendoroid is based primarily on his appearance in the first Metal Gear Solid, featuring the sneaking suit of that game. It can be posed like other Nendoroids, but can also be posed in a prone position for prime sneaking. It comes with two weapons, the SOCOM pistol and the FAMAS assault rifle, along with a cardboard box that he can hide in. A low-poly PS1 face piece is also included.

Meanwhile, the Raiden Nendoroid is based on his debut in Metal Gear Solid 2. He comes with similar add-ons to Snake, with a pistol, assault rifle and cardboard box. In addition, there is a katana and a naked body, referencing the later portions of the game on Arsenal Gear. This re-release also comes with a special illustration from Metal Gear artist Yoji Shinkawa, depicting the Nendoroid in his iconic style. There is also a face piece using an expression drawn by him.

The Solid Snake and Raiden Nendoroids are available to pre-order now from both the Japanese and US Good Smile Company stores, and will release in 2025. Their original games are available to play now in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade mobile sales surpass 100 million US dollars

Sensor Tower revealed that the revenue for TOHO Games and Sumzap's Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade had surpassed $100 million in June 2024. The company made the announcement after it gathered earnings data for the free-to-play game on the Japanese iOS and Android scenes since its initial launch in late November 2023.

The company also noted that the game's half-anniversary celebrations in late May 2024 brought a new peak to the game's activities, which helped it reach the milestone quickly. In addition to a new all-high weekly active user count, Sumzap also saw huge spikes in revenue rankings on mobile platforms following its additions of Satoru Gojo on May 21, 2024, Suguru Geto on May 31, 2024, and Toji Fushiguro on June 3, 2024.

Sensor Tower also published more charts that show how Phantom Parade dominated the Japanese mobile gaming market in the Squad RPG genre from its launch until June 30, 2024. With over $100 million in revenue and more than 3 million downloads recorded, the game surpassed the likes of Blue Archive, Haikyu!! Touch The Dream, and Saint Seiya: Legend of Justice. The company added that Phantom Parade had the second-highest overall sales after Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

The game reached the sales milestone even though it is still only formally available in Japan as of mid-2024. It could have gotten to the $100 million mark even earlier, as TOHO Games and Sumzap had also released the PC version of Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade on the DMM Games platform in April 2024. As mentioned earlier, Sensor Tower only gathered the game's statistics from the mobile releases via the Japanese official Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade is available in Japan on iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as PCs via DMM Games.

my hero academia you're next trailer

Bones has released a new trailer for My Hero Academia The Movie: You're Next. The title of the trailer is "Who's Next." [Thanks, Comic Natalie!]

You can watch the trailer for My Hero Academia: You're Next here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPUmCFgZPPA

It's almost two minutes long and as of the time of writing, it's accumulated just over 54,000 views four hours after its debut. In the trailer, we can see the evil All Might (Dark Might), who's like an obsessed All Might stalker. The new villains that Bones previously showed off also appear in this trailer. It also shows off the three main characters—Izuku, Bakugou, and Todoroki—using their powers in battle. Meanwhile their classmates and other pro heroes like Hawks help evacuate the civilians as the city crumbles around them from a villain attack.

From the looks of the trailer, it seems like there will be some kind of ship tease-like moments between Izuku and movie-original character Anna Scervino. However, it's unlikely to go anywhere considering Anna is an original character. Meru Nukumi, a model and actress, will voice her. This will be her second voice-acting role in an anime film. Her previous role was herself in Healin' Good Precure: GoGo! Big Transformation! The Town of Dreams, which aired in Japan in 2021.

My Hero Academia The Movie: You're Next will air in Japan from August 2, 2024.

First Bleach Rebirth of Souls Gameplay Trailer Announced

Bandai Namco announced that the first Bleach Rebirth of Souls gameplay trailer is about to appear at 7am PT/10am ET/4pm CET on July 24, 2024. It will mark the first opportunity to really see characters from the series face off in the new fighting game.

We already had a brief glimpse at Bleach Rebirth of Souls gameplay back in the beginning of July 2024. During Anime Expo 2024, Bandai Namco showed a bit of what to expect in a reveal trailer. That offered our first chance to really see Ichigo, Rukia, Orihime, Renji, and Chad. So this next one will offer a more intensive look.

The YouTube placeholder page offered some hints as to what to expect. For example, the image for the Bleach Rebirth of Souls gameplay trailer featured Ichigo and Byakuya. This could suggest both will appear in the video. The description also noted our characters will be able to use Spiritual Pressure Moves, cut into characters' Reishi and Konpaku, and use their Bankai to deal major damage.

Here's the placeholder for the new footage:

Assassin's Creed Shadows Team Issued Statement About Yasuke

Ubisoft issued a statement regarding Assassin's Creed Shadows worldwide that touched on concerns about the game and depiction of Yasuke. In it, it brought up its efforts to work with consultants, brought up the depiction of the samurai, and noted the game "will keep evolving until launch."

The statement first went over how Assassin's Creed Shadows is a historical fiction story based on Feudal Japan, but also a piece of creative fiction. The team noted that it worked "external consultants, historians, researchers, and internal teams at Ubisoft Japan." The note also asked those people not be harassed.

It's a part of that statement that the team acknowledged concerns. It noted that this is an in-development project and the final game might not resemble early footage exactly. The company also apologized. The exact quote stated, "Despite these sustained efforts, we acknowledge that some elements in our promotional materials have caused concern within the Japanese community. For this, we sincerely apologize." This marks the second apology, as Ubisoft also apologized for Sekigahara reenactment group flag art infringement earlier in July 2024.

Finally, Ubisoft addressed the depiction of Yasuke in Assassin's Creed Shadows. The company reiterated this is a piece of historical fiction, and noted that the game series as a whole "has taken creative license and incorporated fantasy elements to craft engaging and immersive experiences. The representation of Yasuke in our game is an illustration of this." It also reiterated that the samurai Yasuke and shinobi Naoe carry equal importance in the game.

Here is the full statement and apology from Ubisoft regarding Assassin's Creed Shadows and Yasuke.

Evangelion Musha Unit-01 Riobot announced

Sentinel has revealed a new Riobot action figure that will depict Shinji Ikari's Evangelion Unit-01 with a Japanese Musha warrior attire. The company also announced that Takashi Okazaki, the manga artist and illustrator best known for Afro Samurai, is working on the design of the new figure. Its official name will be "Multipurpose Humanoid Battle Weapon Musha Unit-01."

Riobot is a line of robot action figures published by Sentinel. The entries in this line are mostly inspired by the Super Robot Wars game series. The company has featured units from not only the Original Generation series but also the shows that have appeared in the crossover games, such as Cross Ange and Getter Robo Armageddon. Sentinel also released action figures based on other robot-themed titles like Voltron: Legendary Defender and Me & Roboco.

Sentinel has yet to confirm the new action figure's release window and pricing. So far it has only announced that it will open orders for the product on July 26, 2024.

Here is Sentinel's announcement tweet for the new Riobot action figure on its official X account:

wuthering waves ps5

Kuro Games has announced that a PS5 version of Wuthering Waves is in development. More information on the official launch date will appear in the future.

The game is available on the Windows PC and mobile devices, though there is no controller support on phones or tablets. Like the other versions, it will likely be free to play, though it might also be like Zenless Zone Zero in which a paid bundle is available via the PSN store. In Zenless Zone Zero, this bundle (which was a pre-order bundle) contained in-game currency and level-up materials.

Wuthering Waves came out in May 2024 as an open-world RPG with a heavier emphasis on combat. Despite its rocky start, with issues including a botched translation, it accumulated over 30 million downloads within its first month. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic world in which the player takes on the role of the Rover, who is an amnesiac with a unique ability to absorb the monsters that roam the world without the use of devices like the other "Resonators" in the game. To increase your roster of playable characters, you need to pull in the gacha. Changli, a 5-star Fusion Sword character, just appeared in the gacha as a new Resonator.

Wuthering Waves is readily available on the Windows PC and mobile devices, with a PS5 version in development. More information on the release window will appear later on.
