Hex city builder Scorchlands has incredible reviews already, only $6

Rather than task players with constructing and managing realistic cities, as in games like SimCity 4 and Cities Skylines 2, Scorchlands takes a more fantastical approach. It, like Against the Storm and Timberborn, takes place in a world populated by anthropomorphic animals, offering up a setting where bipedal birds use magical technology to build homes and extract resources from a moon. If this premise sounds compelling, there's even better news: the game has just left Early Access on Steam, is currently available for just $6, and has garnered positive reviews from players.

Creative Assembly may have saved Total War Pharaoh with Dynasties DLC

Total War: Pharaoh, the latest from Creative Assembly's strategy series, is a great application of the Total War design ethos applied to an ancient Egyptian setting, but, since its launch last year, it hasn't won over many series diehards who still prefer older entries like Total War: Three Kingdoms, Total War: Warhammer 3, and Total War: Shogun 2. Still, its creators have continued to work on refining and adding in new features meant to make Pharaoh the best it can be. The biggest push in this direction to date is the launch of Dynasties, a massive update that's seen positive reviews and a healthy player count in the short time since it's come out.

Most sports games are complicated. This is great for players already immersed in the rules of the game in question, but the simulation focus of Football Manager 24, EA Sports FC 25, or NBA 2K24 can be overwhelming for audiences who want an easier entry point or just a simpler type of experience ideal for casual matches between friends. Luckily, The Run: Got Next has just been announced, providing a new basketball game whose simpler approach calls back to the accessible, arcade style design of classics like NBA Street, NBA 2K Playgrounds, and NBA Jam.

The Long Dark gets spiritual successor with new survival game, Angst

The Long Dark, which first came to PC in 2014, is one of the best survival games to date. Its take on the genre, set in a frozen stretch of post-apocalyptic Canadian wilderness, makes it unique among other standouts like Don't Starve, Rust, DayZ, Valheim, Subnautica, and Sons of the Forest. Somehow, though, it's taken until now, a decade later, for another studio to create a game made with clear inspiration from The Long Dark, which certainly seems to be the case with wintery survival roguelike Angst: A Tale of Survival.

Nvidia GPU leak hints budget gaming laptops could be in for an upgrade

A new Nvidia GPU leak hints at there being a new version of the laptop RTX 3050 incoming that uses a new Ada Lovelace (RTX 40 series) GPU instead of the older Ampere GPU in the current version. If true, it could mean a meaningful upgrade in performance and potentially would mark the first time a non-RTX 4000 branded Nvidia GPU gets access to the latest Nvidia features, such as DLSS 3.

Complicating is that there is a desktop version of the RTX 3050 and a laptop RTX 4050 but there isn't yet a desktop RTX 4050. Such a card would probably struggle to find a place on our best graphics card guide but it might make Nvidia's low-end graphics card stack a bit more appealing.

Minecraft capes - How to get a cape in Java and Bedrock

How do you get a Minecraft cape? If you want to know this or how to equip them on your avatar, we've got all the answers. You've heard rumors, whispers of a mythical piece of cloth that adorns the shoulders of the most elite Minecraft players. Word on the block (sigh) is that capes also modify the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings found in end ships, as they occupy the same space on a player's back. Needless to say, Minecraft capes are highly coveted, but they haven't been easy to get.

An almost endless amount of customization options make Minecraft one of the best PC games around: from the world itself, to gameplay, graphics, and your skin. Whispers and rumors aside then, what is a Minecraft cape in the sandbox game? These capes sits separately to your avatar skin, so you can chop and change it at will - even easier than you can change your Minecraft skin. However, the difficult part about Minecraft capes is getting one - there are elusive, exclusive capes, capes to buy on the Minecraft Marketplace, and even some for suggesting ideas to Mojang Studios, so here's how to get your very own Minecraft cape, and how to equip them when you have a wardrobe full.

What are the best laptop games? PC gaming isn't always done at a desk, reclining languorously on an ergonomic leather throne, gazing upon a gaming monitor the size of your front window as hundreds of snazzy LEDs light up your peripheral vision.      Warframe 1999 is locked behind hours of grind, but DE might have a fix

Warframe 1999 looks sick; there, I said it. From the moment I caught the teaser back at Tennocon last year, I've been desperate to find out more; watching and waiting, listening to '90s throwbacks in anticipation. While I initially thought 1999 was its own separate entity, akin to The Duviri Paradox or a World of Warcraft expansion, it is, instead, an in-game questline that lies beyond the events of Whispers in the Walls. As a newer player who's barely touched down on Fortuna, it's a long road to get to Höllvania Central Mall, so I ask creative director Rebecca Ford and community director Megan Everett how they're planning to combat the grind for new players.

Best fighting games on PC 2024

What are the best fighting games on PC? It may be one of the oldest genres in gaming, but it wasn't until unintentional glitches gave birth to combos in Street Fighter 2 that the first boom took hold in arcades during the 90s. During the next few years, other classic fighters would enter this eternal tournament, most notably Mortal Kombat with its motion-capture gore, while both Virtua Fighter and Tekken took the genre into 3D.

Fighting games would grow out of favor in the 2000s, but thanks to the revival of the Street Fighter series, followed by the more recent rise of esports and, to a lesser extent, the global pandemic, we now have access to some of the best PC games. They're infamous for being tough to learn, but with the help of video tutorials, there's never been a better time to get into these highly competitive multiplayer games. So grab the best PC controller, one of the best fight sticks, or whatever control method you desire to use, and practice your favorite character's combos.

Fallout London Mod Launch

Team Folon's Fallout: London mod officially launched, providing an fan-made new setting for Fallout 4 players. This DLC-sized mod transports players from the American wastelands to the post-apocalyptic streets of London, complete with new factions, storylines, NPCs, weapons, and creatures. It is directly available via GOG, in addition to its official site.

Set in the year 2237, the Fallout 4 Fallout: London mod places players in a world distinct from previous games. Notably, it does not include some series staples such as Super Mutants, Centaurs, or Vault-Tec. Instead, it introduces new British-themed factions and a unique version of a vault that differs from the traditional Vault-Tec shelters. The mod features a condensed map focusing on central London boroughs. The mod does not feature a voiced protagonist, following feedback from internal polls and community discussions.

You can view the official launch trailer below, which highlights the new characters, enemies, factions, and locations.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rahBCfRdVac

The developers emphasized that there will be fewer guns in the game, influenced by the historical context of the Fallout universe rather than real-world gun laws. This setting encourages the use of melee weapons and scrapped-together firearms, which is designed to add to the distinctive British atmosphere of the mod.

Fallout 4 is now available for the Xbox Series X, PS5, and Windows PC. Fallout: London requires Fallout 4 and all its DLC to run. The mod is available exclusively on PC and can be downloaded from GOG or the official site.

Boichi New Manga Leak

According to a leak from Ryokutya2089, the mangaka behind Dr. Stone named Boichi is reportedly about to debut a new manga series titled Childhood's End in Jump Plus. The science fiction series is alleged to be officially announced on July 29, 2024. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089!]

The leak suggests that the upcoming work will be another science fiction series. Boichi's writing is generally known for being well-structured and character-based. The key visuals that have surfaced seem to show two of the potential protagonists.

While details remain sparse and unconfirmed, the anticipation surrounding Boichi's new project is significant. Dr. Stone garnered widespread acclaim for its stylistic fusion of science fiction and adventure.

This announcement follows the Dr. Stone spin-off manga that took place after the main story. Published in Weekly Shonen Jump back on November 6, 2023, the short series focused on Senku working on a time machine in a what-if scenario.

Boichi is not only the author of Dr. Stone. The mangaka is known for many other works. For example, he was behind the series Origin and Sun-ken Rock. Boichi worked on short one-shots as well, with one being a Trigun piece. In addition to manga, he worked on manhwa.

Childhood's End is expected to begin its Jump Plus run on July 29, 2024.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Can Be Played on Steam Deck Natively

BioWare announced that it will be easier for people to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard at launch, as the game will run natively on Steam and support the Steam Deck. The official Steam product page also updated to show it is fully Steam Deck compatible.

The official reveal noted that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be "all-in on" when it comes to being compatible with Steam. However, the product page doesn't completely reflect that yet. For example, it doesn't note support for Steam Achievements cloud saves, or other features just yet. The page also doesn't note any EA App requirement, just as BioWare promised. However, it does confirm a third party EULA will be in effect.

This is the second major announcement tied to Dragon Age: The Veilguard in July 2024. BioWare recently revealed the game's voice actors ahead of SDCC 2024. That reveal only covered some of the major cast members and companions we'll encounter, as well as different avatar voice options for our protagonist. This came after the June 2024 Xbox Games Showcase reveal noting the game would launch in Fall 2024.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will come to the Xbox Series X and PC in Fall 2024.

The PlayStation VR2 App will enable users to set up their headset and controllers on a Windows PC, update the headset and controller firmware, and adjust settings such as play area and screen brightness directly from the SteamVR dashboard. Users will need the PlayStation VR2 headset, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, and the app to use the VR headset with other games.

The minimum system requirements for running the PlayStation VR2 App include a 64-bit processor and operating system, Windows 10/11, an Intel Core i5 7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 processor, 8 GB RAM, and a compatible graphics card such as the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later.

The PlayStation VR2 launched back in February 2023. It is the successor to the original VR headset released for the PS4. Prior to the release of the adaptor and app, it could only be used with a PlayStation 5 and its games.

The Switch Version of Tokyo Xanadu eX+ Is the One to Play

Finally, the Switch release of Tokyo Xanadu eX+ might give the game its moment again! Almost 10 years after its original release, Aksys picked up the Switch version to release it worldwide. Considering how interesting it can be and all of the other elements making this particular release so valuable, I can't help but hope it leads to more people giving it a chance.

Something isn't right in Tokyo. Kou doesn't initially realize it. He's going to school and working part-time jobs as usual. But when he sees his classmate Asuka harassed when he's leaving work at night, he gets drawn into assisting in fighting back against the Eclipse phenomenon. Using Soul Devices and eventually fighting alongside classmates who find themselves also able to fight back against the Greed monsters threatening innocent people. Yes, it is Persona-like, while still combining the Ys sort of action-RPG elements while in labyrinths.

Now, right away, you're probably wondering why you should even head into the Switch version of Tokyo Xanadu eX+. After all, Aksys' release is the fourth version of the game to appear worldwide. However, there are a number of reasons to give it a chance again. Enough so that I think it's worth playing now more than ever.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c3r8kU7sr8&ab_channel=AksysGamesOfficial

The big one, and the thing I love most about heading into Tokyo Xanadu eX+ again, is that this is the best portable version of the game. The Vita version is difficult to come by now, and it's only the standard release that didn't add the extra scenarios, bosses, and content in any of the eX+ releases. (All of that is perfectly implemented in such a way that if you are new to the game, you won't realize it wasn't originally a part of the experience.) If you have the Steam version, you could hypothetically play it on a Steam Deck. However, it isn't fully supported. It's only classified as "Playable" there. So the Switch release is completely ready to go and perfectly suited for the system.

Aside from the definitive version of the game now being on the Switch, the other highlight for the Aksys release of Tokyo Xanadu eX+ is a fresh localization. It reads wonderfully. Everything is clear, concise, and perfectly gets the point across. Back in the day, I covered the Vita and PS4 releases. I remember enjoying them! It's been a long time since I played, so I can't 1:1 cite changes. But the new take is substantial enough that I could just tell as I went through it that it was handled a bit better.

Screenshot by Siliconera

There's also the matter of this Tokyo Xanadu eX+ Switch release being the perfect preparation possibility. In March 2024, Nihon Falcom announced the Tokyo Xanadu 10th anniversary project. While it is going to be a new and original thing, playing the first game in this branch is invaluable. It gives you an idea of what to expect. You can see what sorts of encounters and gameplay you might experience. Also, who knows what sort of threads or Easter eggs could carry over. It's invaluable.

I'm so glad the Switch version of Tokyo Xanadu eX+ is here, as this is such a fun action-RPG. I always felt like it ended up being a bit overshadowed, due to the fact that it does feature some similarities to the Persona series and Nihon Falcom's Trails line exploding in popularity. The combat is solid in dungeons. Its take on a modern adventure set in the real world is strong. The eX+ additions do feel valuable. Not to mention, the twist that comes up is good! It's a JRPG worth playing.

Tokyo Xanadu eX+ is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. The original game appeared on the Vita.

Honkai Impact 3rd Top-Up Center Double Bonus Temporarily Removed

HoYoVerse announced that, at the moment, Honkai Impact 3rd players who buy a first top-up at the Top-Up Center will not get the usual double bonus. This is tied to an issue relating to errors, with the feature disabled while the company fixes it.

Here's the official announcement about the Honkai Impact 3rd Top-Up Center issue. It explained that the problem with the extra currency being doled out had to do with a purchase records access issue. It also supplied support emails for people to check in if they experienced a problem.

https://twitter.com/HonkaiImpact3rd/status/1816446773520638098

For those unfamiliar with how it works, the first time you buy a currency tier in a HoYoVerse game, you get double the amount you normally would. So when this bonus is in effect for Honkai Impact 3rd, buying the $0.99 Crystal bundle that gives you 65 Crystals will give you 130 of them the first time you buy due to the double bonus.

This happened right after the 7.6 Honkai Impact 3rd patch launched on July 25, 2024. That added new story quests and a Songque Battlesuit.

Honkai Impact 3rd is available for the PC and mobile devices, and there's no date set for the return of the Top-Up Center double bonus.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure 1st Anniversary Update Arrives

On July 28, 2024, Hello Kitty Island Adventure launched on Apple Arcade, and a first anniversary update added the Friendship Festival, the ability to have two companions with your avatar, new outfits, and a song from MYLK. While the song isn't available to hear outside the game yet, a new trailer showed off this year's version of the event and some of the new clothing options.

The biggest addition is the 2024 version of the Friendship Festival in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, which is an update on the Launch Celebration from 2023. The new outfits present all seem to be additional pieces of formal wear, carrying on the tradition from the original launch event. Between July 25, 2024 and August 8, 2024, people can take part in Group Photo quests to earn Friendship Charms. Those charms can be exchanged at the Photo Booth in Resort Plaza for emotes and outfits. The ability to now ask two Sanrio characters to join you as you explore the island and take photos is also new in honor of the activity.

As for the MYLK song, it is written by Phill Boucher. People will need to take part in the event and play the game to unlock it. Once they do, there will be an in-game segment where people will see the Sanrio characters dance along with the track.

Here's the full Hello Kitty Island Adventure first anniversary Friendship Festival trailer. It also features the new horse avatar option prominently, which we saw added in June 2024.

Stellar Blade Summer Update Gives Eve New Outfits

Sony announced via the official PlayStation social media account that a new Stellar Blade Summer Update rolls out on July 25, 2024, and it adds new outfits. There is also a new Great Desert Oasis location, though we don't get a glimpse at the environment.

Here's the tweet, which includes a screenshot of Eve fishing at the Great Desert Oasis in a new Stellar Blade swimsuit that seems to be one of the new outfits.

https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1816488578953675184

This also arrived as Shift Up offered a brief update on the Stellar Blade Photo Mode that also included a picture of Eve in one of her outfits. That screenshot seemed to have been taken with the new feature, and it showed the game's heroine in another swimsuit. It also also noted, "Photo mode will have to wait a little longer." That last came up in a May 2024 Famitsu interview

https://twitter.com/StellarBlade/status/1816160884013859036

The last update for Stellar Blade arrived on May 24, 2024. It included a Boss Challenge mode and additional costumes for Eve. One of them is the Neurolink suit, and the only way to earn it is to complete Boss Challenge.

Stellar Blade is immediately available on the PlayStation 5, and the summer update launches on July 25, 2024.

Honkai: Star Rail Moze Voice Actor Lines Updated After 2.5

HoYoVerse offered an update on the Honkai: Star Rail Moze voice lines replacement after Chris "Kirbopher" Niosi stepped down from the role. It noted that while the lines will remain initially as of 2.4, the developer will replace them with a new voice actor in later versions of the game.

Here is the official statement from HoYoVerse. It didn't offer any update on a new voice actor for the upcoming four-star unit to replace the Chris Niosi lines for Moze. It only recommended people follow accounts for future details about the character.

https://twitter.com/honkaistarrail/status/1816352910399397989

Chris Niosi announced he would step down on July 24, 2024. He referenced his past behavior toward his ex-girlfriends that came to light in July 2019, which included emotional and sexually manipulative abuse. In that statement, he noted, "But having spent the last week reading the comments from the community, I cannot in good faith continue in a role that would cause undue pain for so many people, especially those I have hurt in the past."

There's still some time before Moze becomes playable in Honkai: Star Rail. While the 2.4 storyline will bring the Trailblazer back to the Luofu, the four-star Lightning Hunt character won't debut as a playable unit until 2.5.

Honkai: Star Rail is available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices, and the 2.4 update arrives on July 31, 2024.

Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary wooden jugs to be sold in real life

Urakita has revealed new Monster Hunter-themed wooden tankards to help celebrate the game series' 20th anniversary. It has also opened orders for the tankards on its own web store. These items will be only formally available in Japan, as the company cannot ship the items overseas.

The new tankards will weigh around 195 grams (6.88 ounces) with a maximum capacity of 1 liter. The item will be available in multiple designs, but all of them have the same price tag of 15,800 yen (~$102.50) before tax.

For the basic designs, people can choose to have the tankards decorated with one of the fourteen available weapon icons or a face icon of the Felyne, which is alternatively known in Japan as Airou. They can also choose whether to have the decorations plated in gold for all variations, silver for the weapons, or black for the Felyne versions.

People can also customize the tankards further by paying extra. They can order to input a ten-letter alphanumeric name or message under the logo. Urakita also offers an option to etch a "Quest Cleared" mark on the base. Each option will cost an extra 2,000 yen separately.

This is not the first time Urakita is producing Monster Hunter-themed tankards, though. The company first collaborated with Capcom in 2014, so it also marks the 10th anniversary of the collaboration. The company is also holding a Japan-exclusive sweepstake that rewards the original tankard on its X account until August 3, 2024.

The Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary wooden tankards are immediately available for purchase in Japan.
