It’s another week during which AI developments led the news, but first I want to talk about Deadpool and Wolverine. This is the biggest movie of the summer, and TechRadar’s Tom Power calls it “the best Marvel Movie in years” – you can find his comprehensive review, plus a couple of related articles, below.
Personally, I’m in desperate need of some big-screen entertainment to distract me from a particularly intense election season in the US. Plus, I’ve noticed how good we are at connecting the dots between superhero flicks and other key TechRadar specialities like fitness – apparently Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) uses a treadmill to stay in shape.
Alright, enough fanboying, and while I could leave you to search for the biggest tech stories of the week, I’ve collected most of them below, including an important one about SearchGPT, OpenAI’s own take on web search, that is currently trickling out in beta. Is it any good? Should you ditch Google for it? It’s way too soon to say, but it’s a big shakeup in the space, to be sure.
With the Olympics kicking off in Paris today, I’m thinking back to my week in the city of lights recently with all that new Samsung Galaxy gear – and if you read my full Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 review, linked below, you’ll notice a lot of lovely photos of it taken in Paris. I wish I could photograph all the gadgets I review there.
At least I’ve had enough time to catch my breath before the next big mobile gadget launch, this time from Google. It should be an exciting Pixel event in California next month, even if a bunch of leaks, including from Google itself, have spilled most of (if not all) the beans.
You know who was pretty quiet this week? Apple, though it did release Apple Maps on the web, which should be yet another cause of concern for Google.
Alright, I know, you want to run out and see Deadpool and Wolverine. Me, too. Let’s grab some popcorn and catch up next week.
