If Deadlock wants to survive, it needs one thing

One of the first things people spot when they meet me is my Overwatch tattoo - given it's a neon version of Sombra's candy skull-inspired hack symbol on a black background, it's pretty hard to miss. I fell in love with Overwatch back in the day because of how each character's interwoven narratives masterfully came together to create a branching, overarching story. In Overwatch, the characters have souls; souls that I don't think any other hero shooter has managed to replicate. While Overwatch 2 grapples with its identity and direction, Valve's Deadlock is primed to snatch its spot as the magnum opus of hero shooters - but to do so it needs, you guessed it, soul.

Cozy DnD-themed roguelike Dice and Fold adds endless mode and new hero

Dice and Fold is one of those perfect roguelikes to have on the go when you're just chilling out. It's got a pleasing level of depth without demanding the full focus of a Slay the Spire or an Into the Breach, falling nicely into that Balatro tier of games I can enjoy while chatting to friends or watching a stream. Drawing thematic inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons along with mechanical cues from Dicey Dungeons and everyone's favorite solo card game Solitaire, it's already a delight, and it just got a little bit better for free.

Black Myth Wukong release date, trailers, and updates

When is the Black Myth Wukong release date? The classic 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West has been adapted into many videogames over the years, and developer Game Science's upcoming soulslike is the latest of the bunch. Black Myth Wukong's monkey protagonist is due to run a similar gauntlet of trials as Journey to the West's Sun Wukong, and this trickster warrior has plenty of abilities up his sleeve.

While we've seen the release of several soulslike games that explore Chinese legends over the years, Black Myth Wukong has been highly anticipated since its initial announcement back in 2020. The time has finally come to see if it lives up to the hype, as we comb through trailers, gameplay footage, and the latest news ahead of release. Game Science has given us plenty to go off, so let's dig into the RPG game's story, the Destined One's abilities, and the Black Myth Wukong bosses we'll be pitted against on our journey.

Ten years on, PT remains a flawed but wildly influential horror game

This week marks ten years since the arrival of PT, Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro's playable teaser for the canceled Silent Hills. Its age seems hard to believe. For one, it's still a visually stunning and terrifying game that has doubled as an endless well of inspiration for horror developers. Its influence is undeniable across indies and big-budget releases alike. However, it's not the above-repute masterpiece it's often hailed as, and its legacy is complicated by how eagerly developers have twisted or dully rehashed its ideas.

Gorgeous new indie RPG Arco's clever tactical combat has me entranced

If you're a fiend for clever tactical combat that enjoys the likes of Baldur's Gate 3, Into the Breach, and XCOM, newcomer Arco should be on your radar. Set in a slightly fantastical version of the American frontier inspired heavily by Mesoamerican and South American history, this new indie RPG tells a classical tale of revenge and bloodshed. While its characters and tales have certainly piqued my interest, however, what really captured my attention is its satisfying combat, a delightful fusion of real-time and turn-based tactics.

persona 3 reload sneakers

Japanese sneaker store Atmos has revealed the visuals for the Puma and Persona 3 Reload collaboration sneakers. There's no information on price or release date as of yet.

According to the announcement on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Persona 3 Reload development staff helped to design the Puma sneakers. The sneakers are white, with black accents and a red tag on the shoelaces. The tag seems to feature the logo for Gekkoukan High School. Meanwhile, the words "Mass Destruction" appear on the side and "SEES" is on the bottom of the shoes. Finally, the Puma logo appears next to the shoelaces.

These shoes also appeared at the public Episode Aigis demo. Other merchandise samples include the soundtrack for the DLC. As a reminder, the soundtrack will come out on September 30, 2024. However, you can stream and download tracks from September 10, 2024, which is when the DLC will come out. You can read our preview for Episode Aigis: The Answer here.

Persona 3 Reload is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. Information on the Persona 3 Reload Puma shoes, including price and release date, will appear some time in the future.

Diablo IV World of Warcraft Horse

With World of Warcraft's The War Within expansion set to release on August 26, 2024 (August 22 for Early Access), it makes a lot of sense that Diablo IV would have some kind of crossover. Blizzard Entertainment IPs aren't a stranger to these kinds of collaborations. If you purchased Diablo IV's priciest edition then you would get an exclusive mount in World of Warcraft. So seeing the Celestial Steed appear in Diablo IV isn't the craziest thing I've seen.

It's just incredible that it's shown up in yet another Blizzard game. While grinding through dungeons in World of Warcraft I was chatting with a friend who had played the MMORPG since it's inception. They told me about the controversy surrounding this specific horse (dubbed the Sparklepony by the community at large), and that it was one of Blizzard's first MTX (microtransactions) in the game. They had a good laugh when I mentioned how much it costed in Diablo IV, which is a whopping $25. Originally the mount cost somewhere around $15 in World of Warcraft, and has now appeared at the T&W Trading post.

If you're unfamiliar with the history of this horse, well, a lot of consumers believe that it killed StarCraft. There have been some suggestions that this mount outsold StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, which is incredible to consider, but also deeply depressing.

But The Celestial Steed isn't the only thing that's made it over into Diablo IV. Outfits inspired by Kael'Thas, Varian Wrynn, Sylvanas Windrunner, and The War Within's antagonist Xal'atath have made it into the shop as well. Seeing any kind of Blood Elf related cosmetic has me frothing at the mouth (I have come to understand what kind of World of Warcraft player I am, and that's one that has unintentionally exclusively only played some flavor of Elf), so I used what free currency I had accumulated and purchased the Kael'Thas cosmetic for the Sorcerer. I liked the glowing eyes and strange headpiece that came with it, and have decided this is my look for Season 5. Having just enough currency left over from that purchase, I dipped into my reserves and purchased the Xal'atath cosmetic for the Necromancer. I don't know, I guess I'm just a sucker for floating orbs.

Weirdly enough, this is the kind of crossover I want to see in Blizzard games. Mostly because, with the exception of Overwatch (StarCraft doesn't count, it's dead in the ground at this point) all of Blizzard's games kind of adhere to the same design philosophy of massive shoulder armor and the developer's established portfolio of creating on a rule of cool that should have gone out of style in the mid-00's, but hasn't. And I appreciate Blizzard's dedication to sticking to what makes a lot of their designs unique in a cool, but corny, way.

I will be clear and say that I wasn't always partial to Blizzard's designs. I loved Warcraft III, but not for it's visuals. And I was turned off to World of Warcraft for the longest time because of it's overexaggerated designs. But now I see the appeal. Concerning the Diablo series, I loved how toned down it was, even if a lot of designs were ramped up significantly by Diablo III. (Which is a guilty pleasure of mine.)

And I guess I can appreciate them also putting that star-studded steed into Diablo IV as well. There's some kind of bitter irony to it all. I'm curious as to how many people will buy this horse for a second time, and if Blizzard Entertainment is aware of it's infamy.

Diablo IV is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Vessel of Hatred expansion release date is October 8, 2024.
