Yen Press picks up quite a few isekai manga and manhwa, but they can all manage to feel different. In Another World, My Sister Stole My Name is one of the latest, with volume 1 out now, and it's a manga with a compelling mystery. Siblings end up spirited away to another world at different times. However, once our heroine Ichika gets there, constant questions about her, her sister, the two princes they're set to marry, and the world keep coming up. It constantly keeps you wondering what's going on, preparing all these threads for us to follow up on in later volumes.
Editor's Note: There will be mild spoilers for the first volume of the In Another World, My Sister Stole My Name manga.
Before Ichika and her sister Karen ever get spirited away to another world in this isekai manga, we already know something is up in In Another World, My Sister Stole My Name. Ichika found a magical mirror, and it is one which allows her to communicate with a person in that world. It's a young prince named Cecil. They share stories about themselves and their world together. It's a bit of an unusual situation though, since he's a child and she's a teenager and later adult! Ichika kept it mostly a secret, but told her little sister Karen everything.
However, one day the mirror and Karen disappeared. Everyone was distraught. And then… Ichika found herself teleported to that other world as well. It turns out that in addition to the spacial difference between realms, there's a discrepancy with regards to time too. So Prince Cecil is a grown man. It's also the sort of manga where isekai situations are normal, with the people who come over being accepted among the nobility due to them having the unique ability to use Hallowed Magic.
The first mystery, right off the bat, is Karen stealing Ichika's identity and name in In Another World, My Sister Stole My Name. From what we see in the early chapters in their "home" world, Karen and Ichika seemed close. The two seemed to get along rather well. So yes, Karen going off of what she knew about Ichika's stories makes sense. But why go to such lengths? Why would there be such animosity? Especially as we start to see the treatment between the two sisters throughout this first volume.
The second involves the two princes. There's Cecil, who we know about. However, after being brought over to the other world, Ichika is promptly engaged to his brother Prince Noah. However, Noah despises not only Ichika's sister Karen, but Ichika herself. The venomous nature of it is so curious. There are hints offered throughout, so some of the future threads are teased even in this first volume. But the fact that we're confronted with that kind of attitude from the start invites curiosity.
But the nature of this isekai story and Ichika's summoning are the main mysteries in the In Another World, My Sister Stole My Name manga. The mirror is a clear tie between the worlds. Once Ichika is there, we learn about past events and travelers. This is a regular occurrence, which is curious. However, so is the fact that Ichika is even there. Karen already had the mirror and was summoned. That artifact was missing. How did Ichika end up there? Why did she get pulled through as well? What will happen now that two Hallowed Saints capable of using the magic of saviors are there?
It really makes me wish we knew more about the future of In Another World, My Sister Stole My Name, as due to the age of the manga and circumstances, only the first volume of this isekai story is available. Yen Press doesn't have a release window for the second yet. Given how many cliffhangers and unresolved questions the first volume introduces, I'm finding it so difficult to know I'll need to wait for more.
