I've only put a few hours into God of War: Ragnarök's PC port.      Qualcomm reportedly wants to buy Intel, and Nvidia should be worried

Mobile US chip maker Qualcomm wants to buy Intel, according to the Wall Street Journal. The reported move follows a rapid drop in Intel's share price after its last quarterly earnings report, which has prompted several cost-saving measures across the company, including large-scale staff layoffs.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm has been making headlines with its latest Snapdragon CPUs. Despite being based on the Arm architecture, its new chips, such as the Qualcomm X Plus range, are able to run the latest Windows software (including games) using on-the-fly x86 emulation. If Qualcomm were to buy Intel, though, it would suddenly be allowed to make full-on x86 chips for the best gaming laptops, while also having access to its Arm expertise, putting it in an enviable position.

When is the New World Aeternum release date? It wasn't long ago we were playing the new MMO from Amazon Games, New World, and now a second game is on the horizon.

Warzone Season 6 release date - The Haunting returns

What is the Warzone Season 6 release date? Both Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone are constantly changing, and whether you're a fan of the free-to-play battle royale, the many MW3 multiplayer modes, or all of the above, there's something new to enjoy with the arrival of each new season.

Whether it's in battle royale game Warzone, or Modern Warfare 3 in general, the CoD devs are always looking to go above and beyond with each new content drop. This can lead to some wild collabs - Season 4's mech-filled Gundam crossover being a prime example. Season 6 injected some spookiness into proceedings, and scared the living daylights out of us before Halloween hits.

Ara History Untold review - Microsoft's grand strategy game is a hit

The one-more-turn compulsion is alive and well. Ara: History Untold is the latest in a smattering of games offering alternatives to Sid Meier's classic formula, like Humankind or Old World. In concept, Ara does not reinvent the wheel. I haven't checked in with Civilization since its fifth entry, but I immediately felt at home with the game's basics. However, the multitude of small and significant differences create something in serious conversation with other grand strategy games. Ara: History Untold is not an outright improvement, neither is it a mere homage. It is worth engaging with on its own terms.

City 20 is like an entire survival game set in Fallout 3's Megaton

You emerge from Vault 101, blinking the sunlight out of your gloom-damaged, unpracticed eyes, and the world of Fallout 3 stretches around you in every direction. The opening hours of Bethesda's RPG are the most tense and volatile. You have no weapons, no ammunition, no health supplies, and no money. Everything can kill you. Everybody you meet is a complete stranger. There is boundless possibility, but also immense pressure - your focus is to survive. City 20, the new sandbox and survival game by Untold, feels like the introductory section of Fallout 3 or New Vegas, but writ large. I remember scrounging around Megaton, collecting (or stealing) as much junk as possible to trade for a few caps and maybe a handful of bullets. Eventually in Fallout you ascend to ruler of the Wasteland, but in City 20, life is permanently hard.

Ever since Crimson Desert dropped that audacious trailer at Gamescom 2023, I've yearned to soak in its medieval Just Cause 2 vibes. It's hard not to be moved by the exaggerated kineticism of it all – the magic-enhanced swordfights, the jumping off cliffs and turning into a flying shadow monster, the ability to drift horses. Yes. Yes!

I'm therefore somewhat unnerved to report that my enthusiasm has been tempered significantly by actually playing it. I've since used all the straws I've clutched at to spell out "It's just a demo" on my floor, but the fear remains that Crimson Desert's fantastical open-world exploration is going to be interrupted by regular bouts of twangy, unwieldy, unsatisfying combat.

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a remaster of Disney Epic Mickey, a cult classic 3D platformer first released a decade ago on the Wii. In the original you controlled the titular Mickey Mouse who, armed with a magical paintbrush (wieldable by waving the Wiimote about), could paint or rub out surfaces to solve puzzles. It was the work of Junction Studios led by Warren Spector, best known for being The Deus Ex Guy. No, sadly Mickey could not nano-augment his brush for better target acquisition, nor project laser-guided anti-tank rockets from his podgy white mitts.

And no, Rebrushed doesn't let him do anything of these either. Clearly a missed opportunity. But is it better nonetheless? With an updated look, some added secrets, more moves for Mickey, and controller/M&K support, I'd say longtime Mickey heads will adore this nostalgia trip. For total newcomers like me, I'd say it's a platformer that's certainly charming and clever and wonderfully experimental, but a bit flat in places too.

Spoilers throughout. TLDR: fun, generous, beautiful animation and cinematography. Worked mostly fine on my PC. I would not have given it the best narrative award if it were up against Gran Turismo 7.

Writing of the frigid framing of Clockwork Orange's atrocities, the film critic Pauline Kael asked: "is there anything sadder - and ultimately more repellent - than a clean-minded pornographer?" The lavishly directed and animated universe of God Of War Ragnarok is far from repellent, but it also feels spiritually squeegeed; a world of pulpy violence so chirpy and chaste as to strain belief that the scars that haunt its reformed anti-hero could have ever been inflicted there.

Review: Shashingo: Learn Japanese With Photography Is More Fun Than Flashcards

Edutainment games are a constant, and the good ones can really leave an impression on you. This is largely due to them being genuinely enjoyable in their own right, so you get an urge to play even if you aren't getting any knowledge out of it. Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography, a new game now on the Switch, is really about making and learning a language with flashcards, but the exploration and photography elements draw you in even if you don't really feel like picking up a new skill.

There's no real story to Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography. It is more about enjoying the moment. You are in Japan. You have a camera. You are learning the language. As you take pictures, each one becomes a flashcard with the English and Japanese names for the pictured items on it. You get to hear the word pronounced as you do so. You also build up a whole little dictionary and get the opportunity to test yourself based upon what you've photographed and learned.

What makes Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography both a good edutainment and language learning game and a fun time-sink is that Autumn Pioneer did a successful job of making it enjoyable, easy to use, and helpful. The text on the cards comes up very clearly, and the script for English feels like it was designed to be accessible to everyone. You can see the Japanese words in furigana, katakana, romaji, and kanji. It is easy to see when an object can be photographed and create a card. Plus when you do take a photo, there's some whimsy to it as you can decorate it. Not to mention, the town we get to explore looks quite pleasant as well.

So right away, Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography hits upon that magic formula of getting us to learn, while also perhaps tricking us into doing so via fun activities we'd engage in even if we didn't want to pick up the language. Taking photos of stuff is fun! Especially when we "collect" things in the process. Take part in the little quiz elements? You can get rewarded with filters and things that let you play around more when snapping those shots. There's a cute dog? I want to take multiple pictures of said dog!

Also handy is that while it does feel like it is primarily about creating flashcards and using them as an additional option when learning Japanese, Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography does offer a few extra modes to test you. It isn't too in-depth. Don't think that there actual workbook exercises, fake conversations, or things along those lines. Find Mode is pretty good at helping you connect Japanese words with "real world" objects and English ones, for example. Like it suggests, you need to find a designated object and take a picture, with the game keeping track of how good you are at recognizing and remembering it.

While it isn't going to test you as much as other traditional learning materials, I have to say that I really appreciated the "immersion" Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography offered. You'll happen upon signs to read. There are some additional learning materials to help with some phrases and grammar. As you start to wander around the world and spend time with the photography sim, different things become more recognizable in a natural way. It isn't completely comprehensive and you aren't going to become a master of the language with this alone, but it's helpful!

Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography feels like the sort of edutainment game that you use in conjunction with other learning tools to help make learning a language more fun. It's honestly a cozy tool! You explore the streets of a city. You get to see what can or can create a flashcard when you take photos. There are little tests of your knowledge. However, it does feel supplemental to a regular experience and, since it is more about building up a vocabulary collection, may not be enough for some people on its own.

Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography is available on the Nintendo Switch and PC.

Back in 2004, all of the kids at my school obsessed over World of Warcraft and its original release. As someone without a computer at the time, I felt quite left out. Fast forward many years and I have come to enjoy World of Warcraft but only off and on again as someone who primarily plays on console and mobile. As such, I can't help but keep hoping for World of Warcraft to come to Xbox and Game Pass.

For many years, I have hoped for WoW to come to console, especially after other MMOs pulled it off well. Admittedly, though, I gave up on this idea until Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard in 2023. Suddenly, my hopes of seeing this incredibly beloved MMO come to a platform besides PC rose up once again.

We have already begun to see the fruits of this acquisition, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Though the upcoming title will release for all platforms, it will release day-and-date for Game Pass subscribers. This is a pretty notable feat for the series that has long been at the forefront of Activision Blizzard's success.

The same goes for WoW, despite its prevalence on PC alone. But with Microsoft now involved, one of the best ways to promote the Xbox, Cloud Gaming, and Game Pass would be to include one of the biggest MMOs of all time. World of Warcraft on Xbox would be no easy feat for many different reasons, not least of which is the controls.

This is by far the single most important hurdle for this new platform release to happen. However, Final Fantasy XIV already proved it can happen. The use of the face and shoulder buttons to switch between hot bars made this argument null and void. I have used a controller to play that MMO since its launch and never once felt like a detriment to my party in even the most difficult content because of my input device.

In addition, there are ways to play World of Warcraft with a controller today, such as various add-ons like ConsolePort. With so many potential players on Xbox, it feels like this would be a sure fire way to add to the already massive community. Plus, it would be so great to be able to play on the TV, on computer, and even on the go with Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Regardless of whether or not World of Warcraft ever comes to Xbox, it should still appear on Game Pass. Even if it isn't part of Xbox Game Pass, PC subscribers should see this game as a perk. One of the biggest problems with enticing and retaining newer players, like myself, is the subscription model. It absolutely makes sense and I'm not asking for that to change. However, in a day with so many subscriptions, it becomes hard to regularly justify subscribing to play.

Having WoW's sub as a perk of Game Pass would be phenomenal. It would encourage players to keep Game Pass running to benefit from both the games library and being able to hang out in Azeroth. This would likely result in yet another price increase, or a new tier, but it would be worth it. I imagine I'm not the only Game Pass subscriber who would jump into WoW again if I only had one subscription to worry about on the Microsoft side.

It would be an excellent business decision for World of Warcraft to finally come to Xbox and Game Pass. An entirely new audience of players would be able to check it out for the first time. It would also potentially grow the Game Pass subscribers. After all, they would only have one sub to worry about and gain so many different benefits. Here's hoping we see WoW on Xbox and Game Pass sooner rather than later.

World of Warcraft The War Within is available right now for PC.
