Silent Hill 2 remake dev Bloober Team had to

The age-old cold war between PC and consoles has considerably thawed over recent years. Once upon a time everything was in its own silo, with games on one platform never appearing on another. A few, however, crossed over, and like the original version the Silent Hill 2 remake will also be coming to PC as well as launching on console. It nearly wasn't quite so easy, however, as its developer Bloober Team has recounted.

Claymation horror adventure The Midnight Walk announced for PC

One of the most striking games featured in last night's State of Play event from PlayStation was The Midnight Walk. Created by MoonHood, a new studio formed by developers responsible for Lost in Random, Fe, and Ghost Giant, the game channels the eerie storybook feel of Little Nightmares, Darq, or Fran Bow. It's a fantastic, confidently grim-looking game with excellent creature designs, and, luckily, we've just learned that it's now confirmed to launch not just on PlayStation, as yesterday's announcement stated, but also on PC.

nintendo generative ai

Shigeru Miyamoto discussed his thoughts regarding AI to The New York Times, stating that Nintendo would "rather go in a different direction." This interview was for the new Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, which will open for the public on October 2, 2024. [Thanks, Nintendo Everything!]

Miyamoto has stated that though he doesn't know why he creates the things he creates, he's having fun. That's his drive. This sort of passion and originality is a principle at Nintendo, which is also why it seems to be doing things that are the opposite of what other game studios are pursuing. The full quote that Miyamoto gave The New York Times in regards to Nintendo, originality, and AI is as follows:

"It might seem like we are just going the opposite direction for the sake of going in the opposite direction, but it really is trying to find what makes Nintendo special. There is a lot of talk about A.I., for example. When that happens, everyone stats to go in the same direction, but that is where Nintendo would rather go in a different direction."

Though Miyamoto does not condemn AI here, he makes it clear that Nintendo will not consider its use. In a previous shareholders meeting, Shuntaro Furukawa of Nintendo also discussed Generative AI's place in creative spaces. He acknowledges that issues may arise from intellectual property rights, as well as states that Nintendo will "continue delivering value that is unique to Nintendo and cannot be created by technology alone."

Nintendo recently announced that it will be suing Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld, over patent infringement. Many people have noted even before the game came out that the Pals in Palworld look suspiciously like Pokemon, or like mishmashes of various Pokemon assets. In contrast to Miyamoto and Nintendo's stance, the CEO of Pocketpair, Takuro Mizobe, also posted several times between 2021 and 2023 about his enthusiasm and interest in Generative AI.

The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto will open up on October 2, 2024.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Screenshot of Naoe by a pool of water, thinking

Players eagerly awaiting the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows will need to wait a little longer. Ubisoft announced today, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), that the game will not hit its original release date. Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed, now releasing on February 14, 2024.

The official Ubisoft announcement gave some details on the delay. Ubisoft stated that it was primarily to ensure polish on core gameplay mechanics and that the launch experience was up to standard.

You can take a look at the announcement in full detail here:

https://twitter.com/assassinscreed/status/1838971189722562906

This was accompanied by an announcement that Ubisoft has updated its financial targets for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, citing Star Wars Outlaws' softer than expected launch and the developments with Assassin's Creed Shadows as to why they were making this change. They also announced in a press release that starting with Assassin's Creed Shadows, they will not only be releasing every future game same day on Steam, but will also move away from season passes. Concerning this shift, Ubisoft will also be granting the first expansion to players that have pre-ordered Assassin's Creed Shadows for free.

Assassin's Creed Shadows will launch on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 14, 2025.

monster hunter wilds bike

The Ultra Collector's Edition of Monster Hunter Wilds will come with a bike, among other goodies. You can pre-order it, as well as other versions of the game, via the e-Capcom website.

Both the Collector's Edition and the Ultra Collector's Edition of Monster Hunter Wilds come with pretty much the same stuff, except for the aforementioned bike. That's only in the Ultra Collector's Edition. Other merchandise that'll come with the game are a pouch that looks like a weapon bag, a baby Seikret doll, and a steel book. The bike looks like a Seikret too, so you can pretend you're riding your mount as you go about your daily life.

Prices vary depending on what version of the game you get. The normal version will be cheaper, whereas you'll need to shell more for the Deluxe or Premium Deluxe versions. Those ones come with DLC content. So far, the Deluxe Pack mostly contains cosmetic items, like new hairstyles or outfits.

The Ultra Collector's Edition costs around 183,500 JPY (Steam Deluxe Edition), which is $1267.80. It may seem expensive, especially compared to the Collector's Edition, which is around 19,600 JPY ($135.40). But remember that you're getting a limited edition collapsible bicycle with it.

Monster Hunter Wilds will come out on February 28, 2025 for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.

Kingdom hearts Notebooks Accessories

Square Enix is set to release another series of Kingdom Hearts themed notebooks and accessories. However, these items will only be available in Japan. The Kingdom Hearts themed notebooks and additional accessories will be available to purchase on September 28, 2024. All of the items can be purchased through the Square Enix Online Store.

The first series of merchandise is a total of five different Kingdom Hearts themed notebooks. Each notebook will cost 1,320 yen or around $10. Each notebook is inspired by some kind of popular motif in the series, such as the Kingdom Key, the icon crown, or the logo for Destiny Island and Traverse Town.

You can take a look at the notebooks below.

https://twitter.com/SQEX_eSTORE/status/1838921603083804960

Additional accessories include a stationary holder modeled after the letter Pluto gives to Sora in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. It costs 880 yen or $6.

You can take a look at the stationary holder below.

https://twitter.com/SQEX_eSTORE/status/1838927258654019868

The third and final items are notebook covers. Both are available in black and white, and just like the notebooks, feature motifs associated with the series. Each cover will cost 9,900 yen or around $68, so a fair bit more expensivethan the notebooks themselves and the stationary holder.

https://twitter.com/SQEX_eSTORE/status/1838911445041549633

Once again, these items are only available to the Japanese Square Enix Online Store. Which means consumers outside of Japan will need a middle-man service to obtain these Kingdom Hearts accessories and notebooks.

Kingdom Hearts 4, the latest mainline entry in the series, is in development.

persona 3 reload persona 5 royal mj

A Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal collaboration event will appear in the mobile version of MJ. Not only will there be a tournament, but there will also be a gacha featuring characters from the games. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

Sega has announced the schedule for the MJ Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 tournament. Preliminaries A will run from October 1 to October 7, 2024. Preliminaries B will be from October 8 to October 14, 2024. Then, the finals will be October 15 to October 21, 2024. Participating in this tournament can net you points, which you can then use to exchange for things like voice lines and table backgrounds.

During the above period, a Persona gacha will appear in MJ as well. You'll be able to get the normal outfit (school uniform) for everyone and then level it up. Level 2 will let you change voice lines and outfit, and level 3 will let you change the cut-in animation. This sort of level-up mechanic was also in the Persona 5 collaboration with Identity V. Aside from the popularity of the franchise, being able to feature two outfits per crossover character may be a draw for some developers.

Persona 5 characters will wear their Phantom Thief outfits whereas the Persona 3 Reload characters will wear their SEES uniforms after levelling up. Characters that are part of this collaboration are the Protagonist, Makoto, Kasumi, Ann, and Futaba on the P5 side. On P3R, we have the Protagonist, Yukari, Akihiko, and Mitsuru. Aigis is a prize that finalists can exchange for using points.

MJ is available on mobile devices in Japan.

pokemon halloween plushes

The Pokemon Center has started selling Halloween keychains and plushes. All of the Pokemon are wearing costumes, but they're the ones getting surprised by something or someone.

Plushes cost $29.99 and keychains cost $15.99. The keychain features a smaller version of the plush with a ring so that you can attach it to your backpack. As for the Pokemon available, you can get Pikachu (of course), Rowlet, Fuecoco, and Froakie. Pikachu and Froakie are wearing witch costumes while Fuecoco is a pumpkin. Meanwhile, Rowlet's not wearing a costume. Instead, it's looking really dapper with a pumpkin bowtie and spider-and-Woobat top hat.

Though it's not new, there are some other Halloween Pokemon plushes still available for purchase on the website. The line-up includes the Spooky Festival Calyrex plush, the Pumpkin Celebration Toxel keychain, and the Pumpkin Party Yamper plush. Prices differ depending on the size, line, and design, so if there's an older plush you wish to buy, you might have to check out the Pokemon Center website.

As we approach Halloween, we'll begin to see more festive Pokemon merchandise or events. Bandai started an Ichiban Kuji lottery in mid-September 2024 focusing on Ghost Type Pokemon. We can expect something from Pokemon Sleep next month too, as last year's Halloween season had a special event. The Halloween event ran from late October to early November in 2023 though, so that's likely when it'll occur this year as well.

The latest mainline entry in the Pokemon series is Scarlet/Violet, which is readily available on the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Museum Details by Miyamoto

During a press preview on September 25, 2024, Shigeru Miyamoto discussed the upcoming Nintendo Museum, which will open in Kyoto on October 2, 2024. The museum will highlight Nintendo's history, featuring exhibits that trace its journey from producing hanafuda cards to becoming a global leader in video games. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

Miyamoto addressed the possibility of expanding the museum to other locations, clarifying that there are no such plans at this time. He emphasized that the Nintendo Museum was designed to serve as a way to help both Nintendo employees and the public better understand the company's history and legacy. In the direct quote Shigeru Miyamoto gave to Game Watch about the museum's expansion, he stated:

This was not created as a business project, but rather to help Nintendo employees understand Nintendo better, and to help the general public learn more about Nintendo. So we have no intention of expanding it to other locations. If anything, we are thinking about how it can be developed further within this museum.

For example, I've been calling this interview room an 'art gallery,' and it's going to be a place where you can see things like Mario's drawings, topographical sketches, and illustrations from Splatoon and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

In the future, if we have more visual works, I'd like to be able to show them somewhere. So I'd like to be able to keep up with Nintendo's developments.

Quote Via Game Watch

The museum will feature a range of exhibits, including playable displays of vintage products like the Ultra Hand and Love Tester, alongside showcases of iconic hardware such as the NES, SNES, and Wii.

In related news, Shigeru Miyamoto previously spoke with Hobonichi's Shigesato Itoi about his shift from game development to becoming a producer. He shared that by his late 30s, he felt less capable of hands-on work without a team, leading him to focus on a producer role by age 60. Miyamoto now helps guide projects, stepping in to fill gaps where needed.

The Nintendo Museum opens October 2, 2024, in Kyoto, Japan.
